Donald Trump’s golf has been a topic of much conversation since he became President of the United States. He recently complained about not playing for three weeks while making an Iran threat, then used his self-imposed strike deadline to get back to the course this week.
A LIV Golf star recently revealed the truth about his golfing ability, while he played golf eight out of nine weekends in a row at a $24M cost earlier this year. But not everything that hits the headlines regarding Trump’s golfing ability is accurate.
He has become known for his own brazen claims, being dubbed ‘Commander in Cheat’ and facing claims he “lied and cheated” in a round with Tiger Woods. But he’s also faced some ‘fake news’ on social media to the opposite effect.

Amid this week’s golfing complaints and as he headed to his course in Bedminster, New Jersey to play, a clip circulated on social media appearing to show Trump swinging his driver, completely missing the ball then picking it up to applause from those around him as if he had striped it down the fairway.
The bizarre clip generated a huge amount of traction online, with users slamming him in the comments. One dubbed him a “fraud and a cheat”, while many others shared the same sentiment, questioning his trustworthiness.
A string of posts sharing the clip generated tens of thousands of reposts and ‘likes’ on X – but the truth is that the clip was doctored. The footage was an edited version of Trump taking a tee shot at his Trump National Golf Club in Virginia on May 25, 2023.

Trump was playing in the LIV Golf Pro-Am at his course alongside Patrick Reed, and did, in fact, hit the ball, unlike in the edited clip. Reed recently discussed the chance to play with Trump again as one of his courses hosted another LIV event.
“It will be awesome,” Reed told Mirror U.S. Sports. “I knew President Trump from before he was President.
” won here when he and his family presented me the trophy at the WGC event. I got to know him pretty well; we have had some awesome times.
“He absolutely loves golf. It is good to have a President who is in love with the game. To be at one of his properties, which is always a treat, it will be good.”
