Carl’s Golf Impact Screen 5 Year Review

so what we’re going to do now is let’s flip the lights off i’ve got gs pro running up i loaded up a sequoia national and here’s what it looks like when we’re actually playing sim golf in here [Music] what’s up guys welcome to the plays golf channel today we’re taking my final review of the carl’s place premium impact golf screen this is a fiveyear review i put this in in january of 2020 and about six of us have been playing very regular sim golf and this is what the screen looks like after five years of use with the lights on a little bit later in the video i’ll show it to you with the lights off and you won’t believe how different it actually looks so stick around for that uh this screen here has been absolutely awesome uh i ripped it at the bottom twice actually which was my fault so the first rip is this one up here i’ll show you in just a minute it’s that guy up there and uh what had happened was uh a friend of mine not going to take the blame myself hit a worm burner and we didn’t have that ra homemade ramp there protecting the bottom of the screen which has this um black uh border with grommets like that and essentially right there we started the rip and you can kind of see it i ho uh you know redneck engineered it up here with some sailing tape and some monster tape and just the most durable tape that i could find and it really didn’t work so what we did was we rotated the screen 180 degrees so the bottom you know went up to the top which was there and continued to play sim golf and literally we hit the same shot and ripped another hole in the bottom of the grommet this was all within the first year to a year and a half of service and this time i knew i had to repair it correctly because the tape option did not work whatsoever so what i did is reached out to carl’s place they sent a piece of material that the screen was made from and i jumped on youtube and learned how to sew my business partner also helped me out getting that started and sewed on that patch right there like i said about a year or so into the usage of the screen i had ripped it twice so since then uh that repair has held up great uh no issues i just used heavyduty string and needles that i picked up off amazon and that was what that is what i will recommend if anybody has a small rip in their screen so wanted to show you guys the damage right here you can clearly see the uh front layer this uh the screen is the premium screen has three different layers to it that’s the front layer you’re seeing that’s been eaten off there it’s almost it is 100% the result of hitting super high spinning shots so i know a lot of people recommend using low spinning golf balls and i kind of do as well because if not you’re going to get this kind of damage over time uh the first one of these rips here started showing up somewhere around the three and a half year mark if i can remember correctly it was a decent amount of time in maybe the three-year mark you can go back and check out some of my other reviews that i’ve done of this same exact screen since i’ve had it and see when those rips first started appearing there and it’s from high spinning golf ball spinning up hitting the screen and that’s also what creates these marks here on the screen those are burn or friction marks now the cool thing is guys with the screen turned on the lights off and gs pro running in the background that damage is virtually invisible uh if you can see it if it’s like a super light background but if there’s any sort of tree or fairway or something that shows up on the screen you know right there you will not see that and i’m going to go ahead and pop these lights off and turn the system on and let you guys see the difference between the screen with the lights on that looks kind of you know kind of beat we did play a ton of golf up here so you know it kind of does make sense that that’s how it’s going to look um but you know this is 5 years in five years of this screen has been excellent so much so that i have purchased a new screen it’s off i’ve got gs pro running up i loaded up a sequoia national and here’s what it looks like when we’re actually playing sim golf in here so as you can see a lot of that screen damage after 5 years is virtually invisible you can see it as you get closer and closer but when you’re standing back here on the t- box this is your view essentially and it disappears and the screen plays fine we’re nowhere near burning our way through the second layer like i mentioned there’s three layers to the screen and everything is just off the first layer so the second layer is still hanging tough and honestly if i weren’t moving my simulator i think i could get another year or two out of this screen before it was tore up so bad that i just was like “screw it let’s fix it.” um it’s lasted really well i’ve previously purchased uh the carl’s discount and clearance screen they’ll have one that might have a cosmetic defect or something slightly wrong a stain or something on it and they sell them on their clearance section you guys can take a look at that if you’re looking to save every dollar you can and who isn’t nowadays they do have some clearance screens i’ll be reviewing that screen in my new golf simulator as this current one is being sold so i’ve got some more videos coming out soon about the new golf simulator the new carl’s place screen and as well as more hitting mat reviews so stick around to the channel playsm golf is the name at the youtube channel so hit the subscribe button and you guys can stay tuned for all of that um i’ll show you guys me hitting some shots here in just a second and wrap this five-year review up but as y’all can see right now this should be pretty much fine to play for most of us watching unless you really just care that much there are a few things that we can do as well and there’s actually some people who sell like strips of screen material that you can hang down the middle that covers that up and also acts as a protectant and you wear that out you wear it out from the main hitting zone you buy a new strip and your main screen is fine you can see this one here i’d say this left side is where we hit balls at the least since we’re all right-handed and you know it’s still pretty darn clear i’ve got a optima just standard optima short throw projector it’s nothing special it’s not 4k it was you know under $1,000 uh back in 2019 when i purchased it so it’s a 16 by9 screen when i get up close and you know in the sky here you can kind of see those burn marks and you know definitely see the the damage when you’re up close but if you look and you have like a trees or something in the background you can hardly see it you know you get super close you’re like “oh yeah.” you know there’s there it is but you know the rips you know relatively you know it’s kind of annoying up there just because i bush hack fixed it but down here with the uh patch don’t even notice it and the screen still plays great it sounds great you guys will hear that here in just a second just going to hit a few easy eight irons here you guys definitely aren’t watching this channel to watch my golf swing so just kind of listen for the screen watch the screen this is what uh this is this is how it is after 5 years of regular use damn i crisped that one oh no wonder had a different club in my hand have a five iron thought i had a seven thought i thought i actually had my eight iron in my hand so as you can see it it’s not overly loud nice thump ball hits it ideally drops to our homemade ramp here and rolls right back to the hitting zone i have a little ramp over here that was originally designed to work on my fiber built mat so it’s a touch high here so we moved it over to the side but usually you can just roll it right back on all right one more screen hit oh that one’s a miss so all right guys thanks for watching this video stick around i’ve got a few more coming out and i got a handful on the channel all the reviews from the years past on this one i think i’ve got like three other videos now that i’ve made over the five years so check those out give you an idea of the lifetime what to expect and uh i put a link i’ll put a link to the screens down below in the description so click that please if you’re looking to make a purchase appreciate it
