[Music] for 80 years the Oakmont Legacy has remained the same US Open winners with the right stuff Champions with that Steely trait an unforgettable duel that first signaled the new future of the [Music] sport an unforgettable day that defined a career the Champions at oont forever a part of its unrivaled Us open history so now for a record eighth time Oakmont awaits the newest member of its Elite Circle of Champions men who also earn the title that BRS them forever the Open Championship of the United States of America little Ben Hogan captures top honors today the older you get the more more thrilling it gets because the harder it gets I just feel like the luckiest man alive right man pain St is the 1999 US Open Champion the 100 US Open champion in history I consider myself exing luck you won this Championship I guess patience and hard work and waiting I guess it pays off I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was 10 years old wo United States open this is the greatest golf tournament in the world and I’m Proud To Win [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] It the US Open has come back to [Music] [Applause] [Music] Oakmont 156 of the world’s greatest players descended on the historic course for 14 Mi Northeast of Pittsburgh overnight rains gave way to overcast skies in favorable conditions for Thursday’s first round hoping to become the first man to repeat as US Open champion in 18 years was Australian Jeff Ogie after opening his defense with two pars a chance for birdie at the third and ogleby to minus one he the bunker off the tea at the long Par 38 and paid a steep price his second shot from the bunker left him with 12T for [Music] bogey a double bogey for Ogie who finished the first round at one over having won an amazing 10 times since failing to make the cut at last year’s Us open at Wingfoot is Tiger Woods after starting his first round with a bogey Woods for birdie at the [Music] second and tiger was at even par then ahead at the sixth for another birdie and the world’s top ranked golfer moved it to one under tiger was in perfect position at the 313 yd par for 17 [Music] so tiger to convert the birdie one over for Woods who finished that way with an opening round 71 the runner up in last year’s US Open is the 2003 Champion Pennsylvania native Jim furck starting at the 10th furick was an even par at the 12th playing his fourth from Over the green What A Pair of Hands thrilling birdie improved him to one under He Slipped to even but was putting for birdie at the [Music] fourth pick went on to shoot a one overpar round of 71 making his first trip to Oakmont is talented Englishman Justin Rose he opened with a disastrous double bogey at the 10th before Catching [Music] Fire went in with very good speed after that birdie at 14 he made bogy at 15 and was just off the green trying to make birdie at the first rose back to one under and that’s where he finished his opening round still in search of his first US Open title two-time Masters champion Jose Maria olab the brilliant Spaniard was one under on the tea at the [Music] 6th a near Ace he would make birdie to get to two under Oakmont punishes golfers for missing Fairways and olab found that out the hard way at the ninth after barely advancing his ball from the rough on his second shot his third wasn’t much [Music] better he would go on to make bogey but finished his round at even par a winner of 12 PGA Tour events including the 2001 PGA Championship is David Toms at the difficult first toll this was his approach [Music] he would make that for birdie and grab the outright lead but then Toms went ice cold making Bogies on five of his last six holes to finish it two [Music] over the longest driver on the PGA tour is Bubba Watson but Watson showed he’s not only about brute strength on the par [Music] 36th he would make that for birdie and was back to even then at the eighth his second to last hole of the round Watson had some 50 ft for birdie [Music] an amazing Putt and Watson would go on to shoot an even par round of 70 trying to become the first player from Argentina to ever win the US Open was anhel Cabrera anhel made birdie at the second and then this was his third shot at the par five [Music] fourth he converted for another birdie and Cabrera was quickly to two under then it’s the next toll he had this 25-footer for another one three under after five holes for the man they call elat which means duck in Spanish Cabrera 27 had this to save par but at Oakmont even the shortest putts are difficult a bogey for Cabrera on was in danger of losing another stroke on the finishing hole but this time he negotiated the par Putt in and finished with a 69 one under playing in just his third ever US Open was England’s Nick dhy he was at even par after his first 12 holes but had a chance for birdie at [Music] 13 and his third birdie of the round got him back into red numbers [Music] up ahead at the short par for 17th dhy was looking to put himself in position for another [Music] birdie and he would get a try from Just 4 feet dhy would finish with a fine opening round of 68 two under hoping to finally win that elusive US Open was Phil mikkelson who arrived at Oakmont with an injured wrist the world’s number two rank golfer haer by that injury hit only five of 14 Fairways and it hurt him in more ways than one man I tell you that wrist is just really getting to work out and you can see he knows he’s dead his troubles at the first continue oh that Sports way right sh right down oh he’s got more rough problems oh man he made Bogey and was four overp par at the seventh he was in danger of losing another stroke yep beautifully done nichelson closed out the round with eight straight pars for a round of 74 four over so Oakmont lived up to its reputation as only dhy and Cabrera broke par Olatha and Watson were at even 16 golfers finished one over including woods and Ogie other notables included Toms at plus two two-time US Open winner Ernie El’s at plus three Michelson six shots off the pace and reigning Masters champion Zack Johnson and another two-time US Open champion retif gusen at plus six with Oakmont drying out the field was greeted by an even more unforgiving course for Friday’s second round the sky was clear and blue and the temperatures mild and the huge crowd had descended on this storyed course to see how the world’s best golfers would handle an increasingly difficult Oakmont layout mikkelson who finished the first round with that string of eight pars opened his second round with three more and then that birdie at the fourth to improve to plus three he had a chance for another birdie at the sixth [Music] and all of a sudden Michelson was in contention at plus two but then things unravel he was at plus five putting to save par at the 10 and that left an even longer putt for [Music] bogy another double for mikkelson who was at six over for just the four-hole stretch eight over for the championship [Music] ship then at 18 instead of punching out safely mikkelson tried to muscle out of the rough in a ditch and failed to even get out of the ditch when he did reach the green he had this for [Music] bogy seven over for the round left Nicholson at 11 over for the championship and likely to miss the cut Tiger Woods started his second round on oakmont’s back nine and after a bogy at 11 he looked to get that lost stroke right back at the [Music] 12 just like that that’s well played that is birdie position at [Music] Oakmont so now the uphill putt for birdie [Music] can you imagine how easily he struck that pot tiger back to one over then off the tea at the par 313 it’s a good looking shot here a terrific shot and woods was in position for back-to-back birdies and a chance to trail by just two it was always left wasn’t it oakmont’s greens proved to be a riddle T had trouble solving all weekend Woods remained at plus one he felt a five over before taking aim at at the [Music] sixth 86 green slopes sharply right right to left hold down in the front yes one of the best we’ve seen underneath the hole [Music] beautiful just his second birdie of the round and tiger finished at four over for the round plus five Midway through the championship firstr leader Nick dhy struggled Friday at the 15th a short putt for bogy a huge mistake double bogey for DH who was at plus s for the day plus five after 36 [Music] holes another fine young english golfer is the 2006 European Tour player of the year Paul Casey Oakmont got the best of him in the first round as he shot a 77 but Friday Casey got revenge second here at the 14 [Music] he would make that short one for his third birdie of the day and Casey was to four over then at the 17th a downhill 15-footer for and Casey was at plus three he made bogey at the 18th and then six straight pars before putting for birdie at the seven his fifth birdie of the round Casey finished with a four underpar round of 66 the lowest round of the championship and was just three over after 36 Casey’s fellow Countryman Justin Rose began his round with six pars before this fine t- shot at the 16 so Rose had this for birdie and Rose with his second straight round of 71 two over for the championship David Toms who struggled at the end of the first round got up to a quick start on Friday back-to-back birdies at 4 and five helped give him a share of the lead but for a second straight day Tom’s faltered down the stretch the lone bright spot that Birdy at 11 Tom’s two over for the day four over for the championship looking for his first win in the States was Sweden’s Nicholas fost the 10th hole had been playing as the hardest on the course Friday but not for fast the long birdie improved him to two over and that’s where he remained after two rounds two-time winner in the PGA Tour including the 2006 players is stepen Ames Ames started the day three over made bogey at the first and then scored three birdies on his front side including there at the eighth to get to just one [Music] over over to 11 379 yd Par Four second for ases he’s within two nice compact swing very little hand action and a great shot he has got a fine round going today Ames converted for birdie but made two bogeys on his way into the clubhouse still an outstanding round of 69 on the day AES at plus two for the championship hoping to become the second straight Aussie to win the US Open is Aaron badley after an opening round of two over badley who won a PGA Tour event earlier in the year made birdie here at the 14th and shot an even par round of 70 to remain plus two after 36 Bubba Watson began the day just two off the lead and got off to a fast start on the opening whole [Music] Friday wow what a way to get the day started Watson quick quickly to one under but four Bogies dropped him to plus three before this at the 13th throws it out there about 20 in still hanging in there look at how quick this is is he going to get there oh just dumps over the edge what a nice touch Watson shot 71 for the day putting him at plus one for the championship anhel Cabrera got off to a rocky start making two bogeys in his first three holes before this birdie attempt at [Music] 13 and a nice birdie for Cabrera and he was back to even Parr he had a one- shot lead putting for birdie at the 16th we swing it hard left and then down the hill that looks pretty good looks real good that looks excellent whoa baby how’s your day going I guess so Cabrera now with a two- shot lead Phil mikkelson’s chances of making the cut depended on Cabrera shooting no better than par at the difficult [Music] ninth oh this could be very very significant Cabrera for Birdie the outright lead and and to eliminate [Music] mikkelson so Cabrera finishes off mikkelson and a fine round of 71 one over for the day and even for the [Music] championship and good enough for a one-stroke lead over Watson four others were tied a two over and Casey’s low round of the championship got him to within three of the lead Toms headed a list of five golfers four shots off the pace six golfers worth plus five including woods and first round leader DH 63 golfers survived the cut and woods who had not made many putts in the first two rounds had this for [Music] birdie that would have been quite the roar if he made that putt they would have gone berserk he had another birdy chance at the third but this is total green white I’m Mark absolutely not much break at all there’s one tiger moved it to four over and at the fourth he was putting for Eagle how close was that boy did that look good back to back birdies for Tiger though and he’s within three of Cabrera [Music] at the next hole just 8 ft left for three in a row I don’t think it’ll move that much won’t move that much Woods remained at plus three tiger now with a short iron from the Fairway after a 317 yd drive at the seven a very difficult hole but he’s hit such a massive drive he probably can give it a shot oh wow stop it on a dime and that’s what you can do when you get it in the Fairway and you hit it long another putt that’s on the quick side is it going to break that much that’s twice he over red putts just total misreads by three4 in which is not like him Woods was still three over par but putting for birdie again at the eight it’s looking pretty good it just seemed to crawl over the left side of the hole Tia green tiger was Flawless continuing to set himself up for birdy chances like here at the par 313 all right check off another Green in regulation 13 of 13 for Tiger that was pure right underneath the hole you should make that butt [Music] [Music] but tiger again missed a putt by mere inches and remained three over the only green tiger didn’t reach in regulation was the 18th where he still had this putt for par [Music] well the same kind of putt just like the misses for birdies I think it was a straight putt hey little tribute to Arnold Palmer there for Tiger that was a great round to go good was that tiger finished at one under on the day and improved a four over for the championship hoping to win his first career Major title was 2006 PGA Tour comeback Player of the Year Steve Stricker Stricker who started the day at 8 over had this chip for birdie from just off the fourth green looks good yes so Stricker one under in his early round moves it to plus seven still at seven over this was his third shot at the finishing hole for last year’s 36 hole leader at Wing foot [Music] and that miraculous birdie from the Fairway capped a two underpar round of 68 low round of the day and improved Stricker to six over for the championship Jim furick was at plus two with two holes remaining for birdie here at [Music] 17 and furick improved a seven over one of the keys to surviving Oakmont hitting approaches from the fairways like did at the [Applause] [Music] 18th how about Jim furick here in this birdie birdie finish fourth birdie of the day for furick who shot even par Saturday and was at six over for the championship David Toms had an up and down day Saturday hitting just four Fairways one on the seventh time at plus five he’s plus one today through the first six holes and that might change after this I’ll say [Music] leaner seeing a lot of quality shots [Music] today no problem at all for that depth stroke six Bogies more than offset his three birdies Tom’s three over for the round and seven over for the championship all right let’s check in with Nicholas fost [Music] and how about the swed running that in it you don’t think he’s pumped up Eagle at the fourth but he closed out the front nine with two boogies to fall to plus4 and over at the 10th Nicholas fost for birdie back up the hill little break to the left yes fos got it back to just three over and in a tie for the lead with Cabrera in woods but as it is done to so many oakmont’s greens got the better of the SED this is very fast that would lead to double bogey at 13 fost made two more Bogies to finish five over on the day seven over for the championship Bubba Watson had a share of the lead before to meltdown at the ninth oh no don’t do that was a middle mistake right there now he’s got a worse line than the other one well there’s a real Buble Mound between time mental mistakes here look at that he’s like he lost his cool that’s going off the green yeah that’s crazy just to walk up at Uso when you’re leading a triple bogey for Watson who was plus4 after 54 holes over at the fourth of par five third for Justin Rose he’s at plus four two early bogeys in the first three holes Lu that better stop and it does did it ever wow it’s a good spin out of that rough looks like rose is going to quickly move it to plus three and Rose improved a three over boogies at the ninth and 10th dropped Rose to six over but then his putter got hot here at the 13th for birdie from 25 ft and then it’s 16 this long putt to save par oh what a putt Rose would finish at three over for the day and a three-day total of five over Steven Ames found out the hard way while the 18th hole played as the toughest on the course over the weekend a wedge from 100 yards [Music] but uh not a good shot at all really that is not a good shot should be able to get the ball inside of 15 ft every time from there watch this where it ends up am would go on to Bogey the hole to finish three over par on the day five over for the championship Paul Casey picked right up where he left off following Friday’s four under par round here at the fourth for his second birdie of the day yeah how about the last 22 holes for Paul Casey who is two under on his round today had the 66 yesterday last 22 holes he’s six under Casey’s t- shot at the fifth went into a bunker and his problems continued on his second shot that sounded like it might have been a little heavy ooh he would go on to make a bogey for the first time in his last 14 holes finished the day at plus five for the championship second round leader onel Cabrera was faced with an awkward stance on his second shot at the par 36 Roger how good was that unbelievable he had this to save [Music] par oh so a boogi there at six another at seven and Cabrera was two over then ahead at the 10 just for par to remain at two over not much break oh and with that bogey Cabrera fell out of sole possession of the lead the struggling Argentine was plus4 at the 17 oh it came out hot it’s gone another Bogey and Cabrera fell to plus five then at the finishing hole he had this to save par and stop the free fre fall backto back Bogies to end his third round he needed 36 putts to shoot 76 on the day and slid to six over for the championship while the field faltered Aaron badley refused to give in Oakmont third shot at the par five fourth oh yeah great shot very nice that would leave him this for birdie that is a very nice up and down for badley only his fourth birdie in 40 holes yet he’s tied for third one back up at the 10 look at this birdie putt for Aaron badley only about 8 ft and look where he’s aiming it is this any good is this any good [Applause] wow another birdy chance at the 12 Take the Lead boy and he pours him in there all right here’s the leader of the US open late in the day and Saturday Aaron badley at the [Music] 13th and badley wants another one here sweet all right badley looking for a twos shot lead in the US Open and that is a streak of three birdies in the last four holes but then Oakmont fought back bogy at the 16th and more trouble at the 17th doesn’t like it doesn’t like it it’s going to oh wow ouch 91 yd from the hole ball buried in the r off on a severe UPS slope with the pressure of leading the US Open at Oakmont and just 27 years old no problem oh look at this that was fantastic boy he made it look easy Gary he did Johnny that is some kind of good amazingly badley made par at the 17th to remain at plus three with one hole remaining after a 318 ydd t- shot badley had just 166 yds at the treacherous 18 and he’s going to have that opportunity at birie Aaron badley looking very [Applause] good and badley drops it in for an exclamation point to his Saturday at Oakmont just the sixth birdie all day on the hardest hole in the court badley with an even par round to remain two over for the championship and was the leader with just 18 holes to play joining him in the final pairing Tiger Woods just two strokes back in search of his 13th major title Casey Ames Rose and Watson were all tied at plus five Stricker furck and Cabrera trailed by four three others were another shot back at seven over one of the many traditions of each Us open as the final round is always played on Father’s Day mcus fost a father of two gave himself a Father’s Day gift at the second oh yeah all kinds of ways to make a three so Nicholas fast goes to six over [Music] par but his dream of winning a US Open failed to materialize He Slipped to eight over before coming up with this great shot on the final hole he tapped in for a rare birdie at 18 fast even par on the day it’s seven over for the [Music] championship not such a fast start for Bubba Watson don’t want to get too greedy here just get it underneath the hole Yeah was a good try he would go on to make double there at the first and fall to seven over also at the first Ames trying to start with a rare three not too much break here slow and Ames runs it right and ases with the first birdie all weekend at the opening hole AMS to four over tied with tiger for second meanwhile a disastrous start for the third round leader Aaron badley at the First with his third here you get the right distance here you got some serious touch that better be careful there that better there’s an edge there false Edge that’s going to go down the edge that’s a big mistake there’s no reason to miss that thing to the left and that’s not the easiest little up and in because you’re going up and [Music] on wow what a start the Tiger’s probably ly licking his chops and that one goes well by what a nightmare for him and tiger has already picked up the shots this is no gimme holy that is unbelievable the tiger is even feeling bad for him I think [Music] so it took one hole for badley to fall out of the lead and again he started with a two-shot lead a triple bogey for him so now it’s woods and ases tied a plus4 and all he can do is just kind of smile about it and move on up ahead at the second Justin Rose was putting for birdie oh just sneaks it in so a nice comeback after the bogey had one Justin Rose back to five over for the Championship up at the third and Steve Stricker for birdie well done goes to plus six and at the fourth anhel Cabrera’s third at the par [Music] five he would make that for birdie and the second round leader was in a tie for second at five over at the third Justin Rose had the short putt to make bogey oh my double bogey just like that and Rose quickly fell to seven overp par up ahead at the fifth Cabrera second 160 yds this with a nine iron down the hill downwind oh and this is a beauty that’s within kick in range Cabrera with just about two feet straight in and he moves to four over par that’s back to back birdies at four and five also at the fifth Stricker second from 104 yards nice thump huh yeah this is one you ought to be able to spin it Johnny and utilize that slope and he has pulling it right back toward the hole sterker would make birdie to improve to plus five fresh off his double bogey Justin Rose had 97 yards left with his third shot at the fourth this is a perfect yardage to knock it close and so it looks like rose is going to move it back to plus six and get back to within a couple shots and now Rose for birdie to get it back to plus six so he’s trying to write the ship he’s got two birdies in the last three holes after opening his final round with two straight pars Tiger Woods had a perfect t- shot at the third leaving him just a short iron to the green uhoh wow that’s gone he knows better than that aerf back at six Cabrera trying to stay tied with Ames and woods for the lead at Play plus four and it never had enough and Cabrera fell back to five over back on the T at the par 36 Stricker with a seven iron you do not want to miss it right you can get a kick all the green runs left oh there’s that kick we’re talking about that could be very close that was a nice kick just inside that bunker and that leaves himself an uphill p and that probably going to make that putt right there to be uh right off the lead at plus four good tie for the lead he began the day four behind while Stricker was surging Woods was struggling his third from well behind and below the third green up the steep slope Miss on a little lower trajectory little too hot here what was that came up and out of that very slightly caught it on the bottom when’s the last time you saw a tiger hit one of those Roger I can’t think of one John I look like one of mind up at the sixth Stricker for birdie and a share of the lead and Steve Stricker has joined aims at plus four and with Woods’s problems he is tied for the lead right now in the US Open with three birdies in the last four holes back at the third Woods chipping wo continued fluffed it that one he hit a little heavy didn’t he how about those those two chips wow I I don’t think I’ve ever seen them Tiger Woods do that in his whole since junior golf tiger would make double bogey in the hole and fall a six over Rose was at plus six with a short birdie putt at the sixth but he would miss it and struggled badly down the stretch finishing at 11 over for the championship Bubba Watson was at plus three for his round an eight over for the championship when he played his t-shot at the par 36 he needs a good shot and he just got one he nearly got an ace that left him what appeared to be an easy birdie [Music] putt well it’s a whole different game on Sunday had a major championship Watson remained at eight over after hitting two terrible chips on his last hole tiger did a little better at the fourth [Music] that left him with this cut for birdie and then Woods is coming off a double at the third and now Bird’s the fourth to get it back to plus five within one badley had reached the par five fourth and two then left his Eagle putt short badley for birdie so a three putt for par for badley remains at plus five just one out of the lead only only one golfer all day had made a birdie at the eighth before Cabrera had this 20-footer aiming out to the Right Moving left looks good on Hell Cabrera is tied for the lead at plus4 a 300yd two at the sixth Paul Casey was in a greenside bunker but had to blast out with his back to the hole I mean that’s just all he could do and remember yeah the holees over there yeah that’s not the greatest spot he laid it up to either more troubles for Casey this with his [Music] third left it in the bunker he made a triple and finished the championship at plus 11 his fellow competitor Ames also struggled at the sixth this for par and Ames is fallen out of a tie for the lead so it’s anhel Cabrera who’s in the rough at the ninth that has the lead by himself at this time and when Cabrera finally did get to the green at the ninth he had a lengthy putt just to save par oh he killed it Cabrera’s bogy dropped him into a five-way tie with Woods Stricker as and badley all at plus five a triple bogey at seven HT aims and then The Knockout blow at the nin so Steven Ames has gone from a share of the lead to shooting 40 on the front nine triple on seven double on nine and at the 10 lengthy put for Birdie down the hill big swing right to left oh yeah that improved him to nine over par but he never got closer and finished 11 over for the championship at the seventh Woods for birdie he’s never had the lead by himself in this Championship if he makes this he’ll have it he’s do very tentative he remains tied for the lead badley had regained his composure after the miserable start but at the seventh he had this to try and save aogi he’s got all pars except for the Triple at the opener I think he’s double here I think he’s pretty darn frustrated right now badley faded from contention his chip at the 18th pretty much typified as round is it going to stay up is it going to go back down yes it is been that kind of day John just everything was just a little off it just couldn’t make a putt just a 18 holes a lip out a final round of 10 over and badly finished at plus 12 for the championship back at the 10th Stricker tied for the lead saw his hopes crumble very long putt just to save par well he wasn’t looking high enough I don’t know what he was looking at but it wasn’t the putt we were looking at no wow that left him this for bogie that’s tentative as well how about those two putts yeah that’s pretty hard to believe he had 12 putts on the first nine holes Johnny and that’s pretty three pretty weak ones there unfortunately that’s a double bogey that’s going to drop him to plus seven and the putting wo would continue at the next hole this was a bogey putt for Stricker so backto back double Bogies for Stricker it’s amazing what the US Open will do to players on Sunday just absolutely it’s incredible 76 for Stricker he finished 12 over for the championship While others were falling from contention Cabrera refused to give Oakmont is second at the 11th from 143 [Music] oh yeah and anel Cabrera chance to get the plus4 take the lead by himself and there’s the leader in the US Open on Hell Cabrera Jim furick was at even par for the day through his first 10 holes and was putting for par at the 11th and so that was a bogey for furri then and on the next hole another seemingly makeable par putt backto back Bogies drop furick to eight over back at the 11th tiger now trailing by one had just 119 yds to the hole he’s got a lot of hook follow through on that oh no he’s hung this way out to the right he’s not happy this is a bad shot right here man what was that the approach found a greenside bunker which left tiger trying to get it up and down to save par [Music] Cabrera has himself a twoos shot lead and that is a big bogey bad mistake there over at the 12 and Bubba Watson’s third now look at this ball way up above him he’s down in the bunker chops it way up that hill to the left and then down and looks how good this looks and Bubba Watson now to finish off this birdie here wow Watson remained four shots back at eight over he had a chance for a rare birdie at the [Music] 16th oh Bubba Watson however finished his round with two Bogies four over on the day and Watson was nine over for the championship all right T at 13 Jim fck Trails by four what do you think he’s got to play down the stretch here Johnny to have a chance well he doesn’t want to do what he’s done the last two holes he’s totally tanked it but he’s got a chance here to make up for two of those Bogies he made in the last two holes on 11 and 12 and at 13 fck needs this one to drop and he knew he had it that is huge for furick especially on the heels of backto back Bogies never gives up and with five holes left furick is alive three back Cabrera The Leader by two took dead aim at the 15 he’s got 169 yds to the hole putting a room in front oh Cabrera is all over it at 15 and it looks like it’s a kick in birdie look at him he can’t believe it AR Rea he can’t believe he hit that shot that was the shot of the [Music] championship onel Cabrera put on a display here at Oakmont three under for the day three holes left Jim furick now at 14 102 yds and he’s a ace on these shots lands it right by the hole good good position right there jck birdie putt goes in birdie 13 birdie 14 hello Jim furi four holes left murf furck and coved to six over tied for second with Woods three shots behind Cabrera at the 15th the now RedHot and Back In Contention had 176 left to the hole come on dri right it’s left it’s going to need a little bounce oh it got a nice little check up Lo underneath that fur is in line for perhaps three in a row [Music] and the hometown favorite was hearing it from the crowd alone in second two behind Cabrera who is in danger of losing a shot needing this 12-footer to save par at 16 tendency has been to miss this to the right he’s aiming right it won’t break will not break so Cabrera with a bogey his lead was now just one over furick and three over Woods back at the 13 tiger needed to make a move if he had any hopes of winning a seven iron off the tea this going at the center of the green drawing good shot and that wakes up the old mck crowd that left him with a four-footer to get within two shots of Cabrera been a long time since Tiger has made a birdie he hasn’t made money for the whole week just t is it ouch now he’s got to do something really heroic from now on in at the 16th fck was hoping for the same kind of magic that helped decide the 1983 Us open on this very same hole maybe he’s thinking Larry Nelson well could it be could it be another Larry Nelson what a PO that would have given the a share of the lead instead he remained one shot behind Cabrera Woods who had never won a major coming from behind on the final day had another birdie chance at 14 tiger set now needs it ever ever so slightly too easy more trouble for Cabrera at 17 and Cabrera’s third now not an easy shot sticky rough Johnny that was was not very good that was that sticky rough you’re talking about absolutely and that is a tough 78t putt for par boy it’s hard to win an open isn’t it he’ll never have a more important putt than this one all right to maintain a one shot lead no that’s a nervous five and now he faces the hardest hole in the course wow so furick and Cabrera tied at five over Tiger Woods one behind but a 346 yd Drive put Cabrera in perfect position at 18 Big Shot for Cabrera tied for the lead right now with furick just 138 left got to get down checks up and stays back there he reached 11 Greens in regulations Sunday none bigger than that one back at 17 furick second from the rough comes up well short and stays in the rough he would make bogy to fall into second one behind Cabrera who took the walk every golfer dreams to take and here comes Cabrera is he just a little while away from the biggest moment in Argentine history in the sport of golf and he’s hearing it from this Oakmont crowd right now time now for another grind out par from Tiger Woods he’s been able to pull these off today hasn’t been able to make much for birdies but we’ve seen more than a couple to save par yes so Tigers back up there with furick and they both Trail Cabrera by one all right here’s this uh putt for Cabrera for birdie at 18 moves left off of that little Ridge right there and he’s hit it awful easily it’s pretty good speed that was fast and that was very well done a phenomenal four here on the toughest hole in the golf course [Music] so there it is anhel Cabrera post plus five he’s a happy man there even though he Bogi 16 and 17 that’s a great 69 is he the first US Open champion from Argentina in history only two men had any chance to catch Cabrera woods and fury this crowd is behind Fury this is as much support as I’ve ever heard for furck a steel city kind of guy fck trailing by just one was in perfect position for his approach kicked it left will it come back that was a very poor shot for him that’s too bad he’ll remember that one for a while he’s leaving the flag stick in at least want to get it to the hole it’s hitting that brown spot and kicking it right and it’s low all the way not even any hope for that putt at the halfway point two straight years in a row Jim hopes are dashed on the 72 hole of the US [Applause] Open it’s a great player he’s always right there just you don’t want too many open finishes like the last two all right guts out of four plus six just one St behind Cabrera pair of 70s on the weekend for furck so now it’s up to Tiger over at 16 and his put for par to remain one behind good stroke tiger made par at the 17th and needed a birdie on the final hole to force a playoff he likes it uhoh down the right side just the edge I tell you what if he forces a playoff he can look back at that last little kick as being one of the best breaks he’s ever had he’s made verie of the 72 hole to win or force a playoff just once in his 12 Majors we’ll see if he can get through that rough it’s very exciting taking dead aim just left of the hole he’s giv himself a chance that was one heck of a shot it just didn’t stick if he’ landed 2 ft shorter it would have caught some of the UPS slope and it would have been 10 ft from the hole but I think he’s pretty excited about that shot he just pulled off watching on television Cabrera sensed victory was imminent the scene is absolutely electric right now isn’t it it is everybody is believing that tiger is going to hold this butt I truly believe that is it going to come [Applause] back and onhell Cabrera holds off the biggest force in the game Tiger Woods and wins the first US Open title for Argentina [Music] [Applause] par for tiger and a tie for second at plus six with furick his fourth runner up in a major and his second in a row and his second in this US Open Championship well that was really exciting Cabrera holds off the number one and number three players in the [Applause] world so for the second year in a row five overp par wins the US Open and for the second straight year Jim furick finishes second this year tied with Tiger Woods Oakmont Country Club hosting its record 8th US Open was once again the setting for a remarkable test of skill and determination and in the end the weekend belonged to anel Cabrera The Lovable golfer from Argentina who became the first player not only from his country but the first from an entire continent to win the US Open and to add to his deep satisfaction he persevered at one of the toughest US Open venues ever onel Cabrera the 2007 US Open champion at Oakmont [Music] [Applause]
