Well, Logan Allen will be on the mound making his 11th start this year for the Guardians. Now he’s had a lay off. His last start was you’re going back to the 25th at Detroit. He did pitch once out of the bullpen for early an inning that came on the 31st. So it’s been a while. He should be strong, but it’s gonna, it’s nice to have him back on the mound. First pitch swinging is Jeremy Pena off the glove of Allen and no chance for a throw by Jose Ramirez. Jeremy Pena on one pitch has a 12 game hitting streak two off his career high which he set back in April. Now the 2 to 2 and it’s waved that got him on the breaking ball. So Logan Allen strikes out Peredes for out. Number one runner goes pitch that throwing from his knees, Nunez almost hit Logan Allen as the ball trickled to second base. Now, Nunez throwing from his knees bounced the throw in front of and it went through his legs and trickled to second base. Not sure what that was all about. Swung on, hit high in the air to left and fairly deep toward the line to make the catch is Daniel , man, that wind blowing in from left and that ball wasn’t going anywhere here in Cleveland. You’ve got lefty Colton Gordon on the mound. Rookie has made four starts and has a 595. a last time we talked about how struck out six Tampa Bay rays that added to his 20 total on the season for strikeouts, three walks and the time he’s been out there swung on, drilled that a hit near the line cut off by Dub-n Martinez going for two. Here’s the throw, he’s going to be out by 10 ft. So Deon in left field going to the line had no trouble gunning down Angel Martinez and Cleveland runs itself into another out to swing and a mess and he does get him with the sweeper down and Fry is the first strikeout victim of Colt Gordon two out in addition to his 31 game on base streak, Jose has hit in the last five games during that 31 game on base streak. His batting average is 397. He went up and got one left field. It’s, it’s over the head of the left fielder. He plays it well, his throw to second second outfield assist by Mauricio Dub-n in the first inning and the side is retired Col Gordon with a huge fist pump after the out call was made. Gordon’s 22 swing and a miss went up the ladder with the fastball at 94 and Gordon Garners his second strikeout two away. 94 is about as hard as you’ll see. Colt Gordon throw one. Now the 22 swung on line to short by base hit left field, Gabriel Arias Guardians have three base hits. That’s their first base hit tonight where somebody didn’t get thrown out at second. So now the count is full, which means the first base or the base runner on first Gabriel Arias will be off with the pitch and that is a called third strike at the bottom of the zone. Two strikeouts in the inning for Colton and three in the game, he gets both lefties in this inning. The 22 swung on a weak tamper to third charge by Ramirez gloves on the grass throws on the run, got him on a bang bang play, Melton make it close. He can really run but jose a gold glove caliber third base, he may not have a gold club, but he’s a gold glove caliber third baseman. First leadoff hitter retired by Logan Allen. And now Jeremy Pena will shoot one past Will wilson and into right center field that was hit sharply off the glove of the Guardian second baseman Pena on base for a second straight time. Here’s the pitch and he rips it to left field base hit did have the green light. It’s a one hopper to the left fielder steaming. That’ll put runners on 1st and 2nd. Now for the Astros, here’s altuve, he’s always hit well at progressive field, a 319 career average here, Pena on second Peredes on first base with one out no scores on the ramirez with a backhanded play on the short up. Rand stepped on third through to first and doubled up altuve jose ramirez putting on a defensive clinic full count here for Colton. He’s had two strikes on all eight hitters so far. Three hits allowed through two innings, all singles tip caught by victor Chinni. Strikeout. Number four for Colton Gordon fastball got a strike three really frozen with the heat five strikeouts for Gordon through the first nine. There’s two away into center field coming on Meyers. Jake will go down to the ground and make a sliding catch another line drive to center cut by Jake Myers at the final out of the 3rd, 1st 1 to 2 to 3 inning for Gordon got a little help from his center fielder as well. Jeremy Pena with a 12 game hitting streak has one hitter with an active streak longer than him. This guy carlos Santana with a 14 game hitting streak going matches his career best, which he said nine years ago in 2016, Pena will make the play to second for one. They turn the double play Pena great start to that double play. The Astros returned the favor after Ramirez turned a nice double play earlier on Alba Allen walks Rogers to open the fifth inning. Jacob Melton will step in the mound. What a stop by Arias behind the back flip. They get the force at second. That was an awesome looking defensive play turned by arias and wilson the second walk in the inning. Put runners at first and for the Astros with two down and Jose Altuve stepping in to third backhanded by ramirez throw to first. Santana had to come off the bag and scoring all the way from second is Pena and the Astros take a 1 to 0 lead. That’s one of the rare times you’ll see jose ramirez make what amounts to a mental mistake they were off and running on the play to begin with. So, you know, you pretty much, you’re not going to get him. You have to hold that ball with that guy on base coming around to score the Astros lead it 1 to 0 here in the fifth inning and Christian Walker zero for two is the better walker shoots it in the right field toward the line. Long run for Jones still going over. That drops in for a base hit. Pereda scores. Altuve racing around third. The throw home is up the third base line. Altuve scores standing up. Christian Walker drives in a couple and the Astros lead 3 to 0 just did drop in front of Jones and his throw was a strong but not 3 to 0. Houston in front. We’re in the bottom of the fifth inning, swung on that line near the middle and on through a base hit into right center in round second. He’s on his way to third and he will be in without a throw and Nolan Jones stays hot. He’s now 10 for his last 20 at the plate and the Guardians have something brewing here with runners on the corners for Will. Wilson Wilson struck out his first time up wilson with a line drive to left field base hit scoring on the board. Three out of four Guardians batters come up with base hits here in the fifth inning. There’s the first run on the board. The Guardians are on the board and still working on it now with Don Nunez stepping in tapper right side, they can’t turn two , they will get the at second. Rogers goes to Jeremy Pena. So Nunez does put it in play and that is the second out of the inning. Bring up Angel Martinez here with two on and two outs sends this one down the line and right slicing. Jacob Melton will try to make a great catch landing in foul territory to save at least one, maybe two runs. What a play by Jacob Melton selling out his entire body to pick up Colton Gordon and the Astros. What a play Brendan Rodgers walked his last time up trying to snap an 0 to 17. Hasn’t had a lot of playing time lately sends this one to center field pretty well hit Martinez. Still going back, still going. This is gone. Brendan Rodgers with his first hit since May the 11th makes the count for four bags as he hits his second home run of the season and the Astros lead 4 to 1. This is the right hander Sean Dubin and Gordon has a chance to win his first major league game. Fry, a single in the fourth. He’s one for two. Fry with a deep drive to right. Milton track leaps. It’s gone and hasn’t been able to do that since October, but it gets Cleveland a little bit closer. Cleveland now trailing it by a score 4 to 2. Jeremy’s night. He’s reached all three ties last time on the fielder’s choice but a couple of singles, two for three stolen base and that one towards the middle right in between second and short. What a play but not in time with Pena Speed. Wilson did everything he could as a second baseman but Pena has another infield hit. So 1st and 2nd. Now for the Astros after that infield single and Altuve comes to the plate with two men on, didn’t look like he came set. You can’t argue that he didn’t watch, watch, watch how he stops at the top. Great field. And so you got Pena and Jones, you got a good arm and he’s not gonna go not deep enough with nobody out. Christian walker knocked him two in the fifth. He sends a liner in a short leap on a stretch and backhand as well. Oh, what a play short and keeps Cleveland in the game. We have seen some stellar defensive play tonight. What a play two down. Jake Myers, one for three, a single and the bases are loaded on the walk myers heads to first. Victor Caratini to the plate. Swung on a little flair shallow center Martinez there to grab him. How about that? Pounds his fist into the glove? What a job he did right now. Nick Enright in a heap of trouble as everywhere. One out, Jake myers, the batter 4 to 2. Houston here in the ninth swung on, lifted in the air not deep in right coming hard. Noel, he’ll make the catch. Peredes will not tag. Now they got a runner caught between 2nd and 3rd. It’s Altuve, he’s running them out of the inning and the tag is made on him by Santana as Altuve just stood there instead of getting in the run now between 2nd and 3rd. He lets Santana run all the way over. That’s unbelievable. Thank you. 4 to 2. Houston bottom of the ninth, next closer Joshers into this game 16 to 16 this season in save opportunities. That is beautiful. Well, below one, carlos needs a knock to keep the streak going hater with the 12 swing and struck out on the slider one out in the bottom of the ninth. The bottom dropped out. That was a perfect spot for the slider ground ball right side. Rogers to his left goes down to the ground stays with it. The play for out number two more great defense from the Astros, Josh Hader with a nod of approval as Brendan Rodgers makes a fine defensive play a little moisture on the ground because once he went down, it was almost like he was slipping slide now, two outs bases and josh Hader facing gabriel arising a mess. Perfect season continues for josh Hader. 17 opportunities. 17 saves the Astros win it tonight. 4 to 2. Great way to kick off this series in Cleveland.

  1. Bregman in the IL watching as his former team settles on top whilst his new one is on a tireless quest to sinking in the bottom. We still love you breggie. But you woke up one day and chose volnce 😀

  2. I know that 2 players don't mean a whole team . I just believe ( of course a belief is not a fact ) without super defensive 2B player Gimenez and "mean stare" ( off the field he is one of the nicest people you could meet) power hitter 1st baseman Josh Naylor , The Guards aren't as good as they were in 2024 . What do you think ? & what other factors do you feel are holding the Guardians back, or not. Please, any and all replies are welcome !

  3. Dubon showing why he's indispensable! Great defense by he and Melton. Great hustle by Pena. We just need to get a healthy Yordan back now.

  4. Defense was fantastic today probably one of our better games on defense Dubon with throws to get the runners out was awesome. Melton had one of the plays of the year with that catch and Rodgers throw to first in the 9th was awesome.

The bats did just enough still frustrating because we could have opened the game open and we probably didn’t need to use Josh now he probably not going to pitch tomorrow.

Peña was awesome Christan Walker got those two runs and Rodgers with the solo that was our offense tonight.

Got the W and we got Hunter Brown pitching tomorrow let’s see if we can take the series and make our road trip even more successful 👍🏾

  5. Damn, the Guardians defense in the 5th inning was awful and a debacle. Pus, they are still having issues with clutch hitting with RISP. SMH. Disappointing.

  6. Mistakes are costly when your team is struggling to score runs, please get Nolan Jones out of the lineup Guardians!! He’s hurting the team more than helping the team I think.
