if I was to start golf again these are some important golf tips and tricks I wish I knew as a beginner golfer These things not only would have made me a better golfer a lot faster but it would have made me less nervous turning up to the golf course and given me confidence knowing I was doing the right things So in this golf lesson video I’m going to show you some common golf mistakes or things you need to know as a beginner golfer for when you start learning how to play golf Before I give you these simple golf tips and tricks though if you’re new to the channel hello and welcome If you’re a returning viewer hello again Little reminder for you all If you’re not subscribed to the channel please do consider hitting that subscribe button It helps me to continue to make free content just like this to help you start golf and improve your golf Hit the thumbs up if you enjoy the video and turn your bell on so you get notified of when I upload all my new videos Beginner golf tip and golfing mistake number one equipment You don’t need the latest and greatest golf equipment Here are the essentials Golf balls a golf glove some TE’s a pitchfork a golf bag and some golf clubs When it comes to golf clubs you don’t have to buy the latest and greatest stuff unless obviously you want to Golf is a hobby and I’m not going to stop you buying nice new shiny equipment I buy the latest iPhone every time it comes out when I don’t really need to My old one works just fine but I like the new things And it’s the same with golf equipment But old tech doesn’t mean it’s bad tech A few years ago I bought my first ever proper set of golf clubs like proper ones not junior ones Callaway X14 Pro Series And I played around with them I bought them off eBay and they cost me just over £100 I think and they worked amazingly You don’t need to break the bank And you don’t need to have a full set of 14 clubs 14 is the maximum amount of clubs you’re allowed in your golf bag But have a half set Get a sand wedge get even set of irons and get a driver That’s plenty for you to get started Beginner golf tip and golfing mistake number two Oh topped it Must have brought my head up This is probably one of the most toxic swing thoughts or ideas in golf I got to keep my head down Grab a golf club and just try it Keeping your head down is one of the most restrictive golf swing ideas out there The golf swing is dynamic You’re going to be bending in certain ways It’s just look I’m going to have side bend in my golf swing on my down swing And what happens to my head It lowers And then on my through swing as I come up my head comes up The golf swing has so many things going on in it Pushing in the ground tilts and bends postures those kind of things And you don’t have to keep your head down especially when it comes to short game as well You watch the best players in the world as they’re hitting their chip shots and pitch shots their heads will actually be moving up as they come down into the golf ball to strike that ball as crisp as possible Keeping your head down is one of the biggest golf swing mistakes out there Beginner golf tip and golfing mistake number three pace of play And this gets so many golfers riled up And when you’re a beginner golfer learning out on the course it’s a scary one because so many people don’t understand it If you’re a beginner golfer think of pace of play as being in a car and in a traffic jam If someone puts on their brakes pretend that that’s a bad shot and you’ve hit it in the water in the trees and you’ve got 3 minutes to look for it That person putting on their brake is making the car behind put on their brake And then you get a shuddering effect which makes all the cars behind pile up and that’s where you get your traffic jam You hit your ball into the trees into the lake You have 3 minutes to look for it That is your car putting the brakes on All the people behind start to pile up and it starts to slow things down And if it’s busy out on the golf course that pile up is just going to get worse and worse and worse And that’s a scary thing for beginner golfers So my advice is if you’re having a nightmare on a hole if it’s more than say a double bogey or a triple bogey just pick the ball up and move on You don’t have to finish every single hole even for handicap purposes If you’re in a medal in a competition and you want to be on that leaderboard then yes you have to finish every hole But that will take a load of pressure away from you because you will start to see people standing there behind you like this hands on their hips Oh god it’s so slow today Little sly sneaky comments when they’re coming up beside you on the tea and things like that Like some golfers can be nasty And anyone that is like that down that lens please think about other golfers You’re out here Enjoy it It’s sunny today It is quiet for me cuz I’m out nice and early and it is just lovely Enjoy your golf That’s what you’re out here to do Like we said at the start it’s a hobby You’re meant to enjoy it Just be aware of what’s around you if you’re a beginner golfer Oh I struck that so good Did you see that Check up So close I hope that car analogy is a good one If you’re on the road and there’s no cars around and you break it’s not going to have an effect on anyone else If it’s really busy on that motorway and you come to a stop there’s your pileup Beginner golf tip and golfing mistake number four not having a handicap Getting a handicap early on in your golfing life is great Not only if you’ve got like those competitive juices in you where you just want to get better and better at something It’s also great if you want to enter competitions you want to travel and play golf lots of abroad courses when you go over to Europe need a handicap certificate So getting a handicap is really important And this part of the video is brought to you by iGolf If you haven’t got a handicap index aren’t a member of a golf club but still want to track your game and follow your progress iiggolf is perfect for you It’s the only way for non-club golfers in England to get a handicap through the World Handicap System With your subscription you get access to the My EG app where you can submit scores view your playing history and track your stats round by round Plus you’re also covered by public liability insurance from Marsh Sport which is a nice piece of mind every time you tee up Join over 60,000 golfers already using iGolf It’s just £46 for the year Or even better try it completely free for 30 days using the code coach30 at checkout So why not take your game to the next level with iGolf Beginner golf tip and golfing mistake number five is I need you to get the basics right There’s so many cheap wins when it comes to getting the grip right your stance width ball position all the golf swing basics So many beginner golfers have come to me over the years starting with a really weak grip So not seeing any knuckles on their glove hand their lead hand and this bottom hand riding right over the top It’s going to cause so many problems throughout the rest of your swing And the other way super strong grips four five knuckles on that top hand You’re going to have to manipulate things in your swing and get matchups which are incredibly hard to do as a beginner golfer So getting the basics just the grip ball position stance width is super important and it’s going to help that consistency and help you strike that golf ball loads better I also want you to experiment with all the clubs in your golf bag So many beginner golfers go to the driving range and get their favorite club like their seven iron or something like that I want you to experiment with all of them Yes have your favorite club but learning what all your clubs do will seriously help you lower your scores fast This shot is roughly 170 playing 150 because it’s so downhill now It’s into wind Normally 150 shot I’d hit 9 iron 8 iron But because it’s into wind I’m going to go up to my seven and swing smoother That’s going to bring the ball flight down And these sorts of little tips and tricks are things you’re going to learn really quickly if you experiment with all your clubs ball positions those kind of ideas Nicely controlled the flight Bringing it down just left of the flag perfectly on the green Get the setups basic as close to neutral as possible and experiment with all your clubs even though I know you’ve got a favorite and that’s fine Beginner golf tip and golfing mistake number six Leave the golf course how you would like to find it That iron shot I just hit has found the green It also landed on the green and left one of these a pitch mark If your ball lands on the green you’ve got to repair your pitch marks At the start we had the basic equipment and a pitchfork was in that equipment And this is what it’s for repairing your pitch mark Your ball lands on the green it leaves a big mark that needs to be repaired Now if you’re waiting around for your other partners to putt just have a look at your putt like you would normally but have a look for other pitch marks as well because we want these greens as pure as possible to hold as many putts If you can repair your pitch mark and another on every green there wouldn’t be any pitch marks on any green in the world Replace your divots on the fairways You don’t have to replace them on par 3Ts or par4ts because green keepers at most courses are going to fill them with sand But on the fairway please replace your divots Rake bunkers is another one Keep the course in as good a condition as you would like it Everyone wants nice bunkers rather on the fairway and no one wants their ball bobbling offline because it’s hit a pitch mark Keep the course as you found it or would like it My final golf tip and common golf mistake for beginner golfers is try and learn some of the basic rules Now I don’t expect you to read the rule book cover to cover understanding some of the basics like marking your ball on the first te before you tee off So you can identify your ball anywhere on this golf course If it goes in long rough if your playing partners playing the same ball you need to mark it with a Sharpie anything you want on there so you can identify your ball Learning what red stakes yellow stakes white stakes means You’re going to hit your ball in trouble And if you hit it in those areas you need to know what to do once you’ve done that Another one that lots of people don’t do is more of an etiquette thing rather than a rule is shout Some golfers are embarrassed to shout for but if you’re that person that that ball is coming towards and it hits you and that person doesn’t shout for you’ll be pretty angry So make sure if you hit one offline like this is a blind T-shot here I don’t know who is over that hump and I’ve got another hole on the right hand side So if I block one or slice one out to the right and I can’t see where that ball’s landed I need to shout four You’re allowed to hit waywood shots on the golf course but if you can see it going towards someone don’t be shy or nervous Shout for and keep everyone safe So there are some of my best tips for beginner golfers That doesn’t need a for shout And remember like we said earlier this is a hobby Make sure you’re enjoying yourself For all the beginners watching I hope these tips have helped And for any seasoned golfers who just enjoy watching the content I hope that’s a nice refresher for you Um if you forget to do any of those things let me know in the comments down below if I’ve missed any Sit a little Sit a little Oh sit down That’s massive Just replacing my divot Let’s all enjoy this game together Thanks all for watching Quick reminder for you all again If you’re not subscribed to the channel and you do enjoy the content please do consider hitting that subscribe button Helps me to continue to make free content just like this to help you lower your scores Thanks all for watching I look forward to seeing you in the next one

I always look forward to these vids. Great info and a great attitude. Makes me want to hit the course immediately!
Well I’ve subbed – and so should you😀
Pace of play: I've embraced the "Tour Drop". A ball you know is in play, but the rough is so thick you can' t find it without a a search party. But if we had 10,000 fans pointing to it, like on Tour… I just take a free drop at the last known location, and move on. I also don't take distance on shots into hazards, just a stroke and drop at distance. It keeps pace moving along. And no one I play with cares
If we play golf just for the fun and exercise, do I really need a handicap index?
Great content! However, in your next I would recommend how and why to play ready golf.
Good list. And I know plenty of experienced golfers who would do well to listen to your #3.
I have one more tip, which might have come from Harvey Penwick:
When the game isn't going according to plan, don't let it affect your companions on the course. People won't remember what you scored, they will remember what it felt like to play with you. So stay cheerful and engaged and you'll always be able to get a game.
Things they never tell beginners….#1 don't start golf!
#8 Watch your ball until it stops especially if it misses the fairway, don't turn away snarling and club-chucking.
