what a spectacular setting here on the International Olympic Academy Golf Course for round one of the Costa Navarino Legends Tour Trophy And the golf has lived up to the weather and the views It’s been hot Lots of birdies lots of eagles A whopping 28 players within just four shots of the lead but two of them have got their noses in front [Music] James Kingston is tied 10th at three under par The South African won the OFX Irish Legends recently and he notched seven birdies to get into contention again This T-shot nearly went in for an ace at the eighth Former Rder Cup player Steven Gallagher pitched it close here at the 17th to set up a red number The last of his five birdies The Legends Tour rookie is one of seven players in tied third at minus four Order of merit number one Scott Hend combined seven birdies and three bogeies The Aussie got off to a good start with this pickup at the par five opening hole and he also signed for a 68 There are two players tied for the lead at five under par David Dedale is making his third start on the tour after turning 50 in March and he birdied all four of the par fives and the 10th This lovely approach into 18 yielded a par Peter Baker made this birdie at the first and another at five An eagle at the sixth got the 2023 Order of merit number one to four under early in the day He also birdied 17 to join the clubhouse lead Let’s hear from our top two Yeah very pleased with that opening round Um got off to a great start Played really well today Sort of got stuck a bit in the middle there but uh yeah could could have been a lot better as it as it always could Everybody says the same thing but no I was pleased the way I played and uh very happy with the start Yeah delighted played solid Uh didn’t hit in any trouble all day and and played the par fives well So all in all good start I actually feel like the both courses are quite similar to be honest I mean maybe the hills you are you say is maybe a little bit easier maybe a little bit wider in areas off the tea Uh yeah looking forward to it First time I played it yesterday Uh again another good challenge I think it’s a good course I don’t think it’s uh I can’t see it being much easier than the one we played today actually Maybe even a bit tougher I think it’s just just try and do what I did today Try and put it on the fairway and then and then go from there [Music] [Music]
