right S we got a big big night We’ve got one round of golf left at the United States Golf Open Uh we are going to talk about the story of the day of course as we as we always do Start thinking Randy You’re going to have the first draft pick So you’re you’re on the clock officially We had a we’re going to do a new game Uh we said take we’re going to we’re going to do the take in the envelope We had each of us put five takes uh in the in the envelope before the round started today Five predictions We’re going to unveil those to each other and see how we did Judging by everybody’s face not great It doesn’t We sent them to Cody It’s not like we can just go and revise our whatever our takes were like they’re blind Yeah We we submitted them Yeah We didn’t publish them but we submitted them and we’ve not seen each other’s predictions for the day We are of course going to check in on the proper test index the Randy Corp PTI uh how we look and tone on that one Uh we’re going to we’re going to talk about what a win would mean for some of these contenders We’ve got you know the a little clearer picture of who we’re going to be focused on tomorrow Of course we’re going to talk about how far back is too far back and we’re going to give some final predictions check the odds things of that nature Uh Big Randall as promised you have the first draft pick What is your story of the day today i think gentlemen I think there’s a clear consensus number one overall story of the day And I’m going to leave it on the board for you guys because I’m going one I I’m going to go what caused what I think you guys are going to say is the story of the day I thought the rain softened up Oakmont a little bit today which in turn I think uh allowed the final groups to to really play some good golf Much much better scoring than I thought at the beginning of the day So I I thought the rain was perfectly timed for those final four or five groups I I thought uh guys like Spawn and Burns and Adam Scott I thought they benefited I thought there was a bit more zip in the greens I think everything just softened up just enough Um where that that course was kind of if I’m being honest it was in that middle where it wasn’t hard enough and it wasn’t easy enough for me which made for a bit of a of a let down today But my big story is the rain Um I hope we don’t get any tomorrow I was loving how this course was looking through two and a half days Could have been worse It could have been worse with the rain Um could have been worse It really could have And it it doesn’t look great great for tomorrow but it doesn’t look uh catastrophic either I I I I I think I’m going to end up giving DJ a layup here for story of the day because I’m just not going to let the 54hole leader Also the 36 hole leader not come off the board first Sam Burns 3:35 p.m time this afternoon It’s a lot of waiting around uh thinking about sleeping on the 54 on the 36 hole lead And man it just was really impressive The driving was not perfect but how many times three or four they they I think I lost track Three or four times he had to punch out sideways out of the fairways and he scrambled for par I think at least on three of those occasions he only made two bogeies on the day He remains one of the best putters in the world and has been for quite some time And he is leading the field in in strokes gained approach His iron play has just been awesome He’s hitting all kinds of of golf shots nippers scooters wedges you know after he’s getting himself into trouble he’s saving himself with wedges and just really impressive golf for somebody that hasn’t been under the gun in a major championship to survive that day Like has me thinking he’s a we’ll get to odds later He’s a very clear favorite in the odds and a lot of respect is being showed to him uh in that lens and I think it’s earned at this point uh not on the tip of my tongue coming into this week but it’s hard to deny how freaking solid he’s been looked especially up against like watching all of the stars just become little boys uh over the last three days It it’s it’s it’s even more impressive probably than it looks I think that’s right I I I loved so of golf today I thought it was a very proper US Open round of golf despite the rain and despite you know maybe the greens being a little softer it was like every time he drove it out of position he had to take his medicine and he he pretty much saved it every single time Those wedges that he was hitting in there were diabolical I mean it was really really really fun to watch him hit the you know two hop and stops all day into those those nasty pins Uh he he’s the kind of player too I think you know he’s been playing better golf obviously but he’s not really the tip of your tongue coming into a weak you know first five six picks off the board type of player like he has been in the past and he he was in this position today I think where he could have shot 75 and we’ve been like ah well what are you going to do Sam Burns who else is up there and he he did not do that at all just he he did not let any he kind of suffocated it a little bit and just wasn’t going anywhere Wasn’t going to go backwards And uh it was just it it got really fun to watch after a while And I I think you know we can talk about Oakmont and and how it is as a US Open venue kind of after tomorrow but I think my big prediction coming into you know especially after the first round was like this style of golf thick rough everybody’s making bogeies not a ton of easily identifiable holes It kind of leads to a pretty boring first 54 63 holes but once it takes shape it gets really good And I think that’s what happened in that last hour was the you know when you have places like Augusta Sawrass Capalua I would put on this list Like places that are kind of almost like I don’t care what’s going on in the tournament I just want to watch guys hit shots Oakmont’s not that kind of place And so to your to your point Randy it’s like Shinikok when they’re almost you know losing the golf course is that kind of place where it’s like I don’t care what you’re showing me Just show me shots after shot after shot after shot Oakmont’s not like that Neil said it very well after the Thursday show where it’s a little disorienting You don’t quite know where you’re at on the property or who’s playing what or or yada yada yada But once it kind of became clear like all right man it’s Burns it’s Spawn it’s Adam Scott and it’s Victor Uh then all of a sudden you can kind of sink into the round and really feel a little bit of gravity on each shot And I felt that once we got to like 13 14 15 and and kind of the story started to take shape and it just got really entertaining and Sam Burns kind of you know was the the stud coming out of that Two things real quick Sam Burns has played obviously uh 54 holes six sets of nine holes He is he only uh nine holes he’s played over par were on Thursday when he finished bogey double bogey bogey on that back nine he has shot 34 38 34 31 35 34 um it’s been a very complete performance and um on the on the Oakmont front I think like we were pretty adamant in the preview stuff that we that we said like this feel like I thought Scotty was going to win by a lot that’s let’s get that out of the way that’s not looking like it’s going to happen still not giving up on that but uh the other parts Like I don’t know what the hell is going to happen Like this place was just was primed for some big-time mystery of who was going to ace this test We’ll get into some of the odds of the top five up on the leaderboard That was not in a lot of people’s predictions how this was going to go I don’t think that’s a knock on Oakmont I don’t Some people may view it that way I I I get the the point that maybe some people are not in love with this leaderboard and the excitement that today brought That’s fair I don’t agree with that as far as what I enjoy but uh it was a little slow at times today but it’s a very serious very serious test We can get into some of that detail later if we want to but I I I just having watched all these other guys fail at this test it is a amazing test of skill It really is And even if the names at the top are not the ones you expected doesn’t mean they’re not playing incredible and deserve golf Well I think that’s what’s really fun about it is I’ll no offense to Carlos Ortiz but I’ll I’ll put I’ll take the top four Burn Scott Spawn and Havland And never in a trillion years would I have penciled those four as like these four are the dudes But also looking at that leaderboard I’m like “Oh yeah okay I see how they’re doing it That makes total sense I see why it fits their games I see why they’re you know it’s it’s been a little bit different styles right like JJ Spawn’s hitting a ton of fairways and he finally hit a ton of greens today Sam Burns is kind of not driving it great but still getting away with it through iron play and a great short game and Adam Scott’s doing both It’s and Victor’s kind of you know embodied even more the Jordan Spe uhness that you glossed glossed onto him Sullie But uh Randy I know you haven’t been on the last couple nights but how’s how’s kind of your Oakmont experience been and and you know what we’ve just said over the last five minutes kind of tracking with how you’re feeling yeah I I was giddy through yesterday Like I said truly th this course was was providing the test that I I thought was everything I could hope and ask for in a US Open And while the the conditions I think led to I the flip side of like the weather right i mean and all credit to the guys who played well you still got to go out there and hit shots and and I don’t want to diminish that Um I think what’s fun about this leaderboard you could tell me that those top four I don’t necessarily trust any of them tomorrow which I I still think adds a lot of intrigue to the proceedings You know uh even a guy like Adam Scott right his near misses we’ve seen at the Open Championship uh the other three guys untested really final round of a major and at a place like Oakmont where man if if it kind of starts to spiral a little bit it’s just going to seem like a bogey barrage tomorrow So I am excited about Sie to your point Yeah Uh this leaderboard might not look the sexiest but also like we could be talking about somebody in this like one two three like I’m not counting Scotty out either at four over par tomorrow Uh I I think there is a lot of intrigue and I’m hoping today was a little you know hey yeah you guys you guys ace the test but hey we’re going to have another one tomorrow Uh so study up rest up I I think that’s what has me excited But d to your specific question first two days positively loved it I I I thought um well you know the PTI we’ll get to the PTI was was saying the same story It’s it’s uh check your math I didn’t believe the number I know Exactly So um yeah today today was a little easier than I would have liked but uh I still think we’re in for a very fun and you know a complete mystery tomorrow Honestly you could tell me 10 different guys would win tomorrow and I’ll believe it Can we agree Randy i feel like on a lot of US Open shows over the past years I’ve had to talk you into when it is too easy even if I agree that it’s not uh through any human error Do you agree this is not too today was not too easy through human error of of the setup committee i agree with that because I thought early in the day I I I really enjoyed how the course was playing I I thought Yeah Yeah I’ll let’s Yep Yeah Get yourself a goddamn deal Uh well can’t believe it’s still on the board guys With the third pick I am going to take 44y old Adam Scott uh playing in the final final group tomorrow at the US Open He’s driving the [ __ ] out of the ball He’s hitting the [ __ ] out of his irons He’s putting it very nicely Uh he looks like a US Open player He’s without a double still on his card He’s charting his way around And uh I just feel like it would be an unbelievably fitting KV said this in our Slack I think Oakmont and and Adam Scott I can I can see that You know that feels good in the club history Feels good on the Wikipedia page Feels good for that 20 33 you know deep dive into the past US Opens at Oakmont I I can get down so hard with Adam Scott uh at winning at Oakmont I I that’s that will be my rooting interest tomorrow And man was I impressed with his round of golf today What What kind of struck you guys about Adam Scott well 187 off AT&T Like you thought it was you guys like there’s no way Like these [ __ ] NBC track man They’re so juice There’s no way And then I’m looking at all his other radar data for the week I’m like “Oh no He just is mashing the ball.” Okay I I was not familiar with how much speed you had added That’s interesting Yeah It uh it it’s I mean he’s a I had it’s not somebody that I think of a lot when it comes to the beginning of major weeks or we even talk about that much on this show And the more I thought about today I’m like man I I feel like we should have talked about how one major for him is light for his profile for for the length of career that he’s had And man it just seems like he can he can whisk all that away with closing the door tomorrow I again I have no idea what’s going to happen I’m hesitant to make any kind of predictions for tomorrow You could talk me into any of these guys winning uh at this point but it would be a surprise if 44y old Adam Scott could could last this long I mean his play has declined over recent years I mean it’s it’s not a secret and that’s evident in the numbers And uh I I’ll be rooting for him It’s a heck of a story has a heck of a I I I just I really admire the guy his work ethic and his commitment to the game and how he’s balanced a worldwide travel schedule for 25 years as it stands now and still cares greatly about his golf and the game of golf and I think he would be an excellent United States Open champion But that might be me getting a little caught up in a in a storyline more than anything I the best story It’s the best storyline possibility We we can say that That’s interesting Of the top name like of the top you like him more than Havlin I mean I think Havlin would be a great you know hey first major Somebody that we’ve we’ve expected a lot out of We We can get there Adam Scott uh Sally to your point what is he second in the field in strokes gained off the tea this week 23rd driving distance tied for 12th in fairways hit That was a big thing that we had all talked about in the preview marrying up those two statistics So yeah it’s it’s been very impressive And I think I I don’t know if he’ll feel this pressure but I I do think tomorrow’s round is is fascinating in so far as if you do get it done that second major man that second major is humongous on somebody’s uh resume especially a guy like him who we we expected a lot out of He’s he’s shown flashes of greatness world number one I I mean I this sounds unfair but it it seems like if he isn’t able to capture that second major and if this is the last best shot he has at that major we could look back at Adam Scott and be like a little disappointed overall And I think that completely flips 180 if he wins And it’s like oh yeah Hall of Famer Like maybe he didn’t win four or five majors but you can’t argue with two majors 15 PGA Tour wins Uh so I I do think it’s a fascinating day for him I I don’t mean this literally uh based on kind of their career as a whole because I think you’re right Adam Scott had a lot more pedigree a lot more upside a lot more superstardom But I I would go back to every single word we said about Justin Rose at the Masters and how impressive it is to keep doing it I mean I don’t think Adam Scott uh I don’t think he needs the dough you know i don’t think he uh I don’t think he needs to be on the PJ tour board taking those meetings I don’t think he needs to constantly be in the gym You know he could have absolutely disappeared He’s clearly like a very private guy who probably hasn’t absolutely loved being in the spotlight as long as he has been He could have disappeared and surfed and hung out and played his guitar for the rest of his life And instead he’s busting his ass and you know probably like a lot of what we heard from Justin Rose like with no certainly no guarantee that you’re ever going to be in the final group of another major you know it’s like you’re you’re that’s why you’re doing it You know I don’t think he’s out there to win a bunch of uh week to week PJ tour events He’s out there just because it’s like maybe it all lines up one more time Maybe I get one more And that’s like I don’t know I sound cheesy right now but it’s like when you’re getting up every day and going to the gym or going to hit balls or going to do stuff away from your family or whatever like that has to be the driver And so for that to to pay off for him this week is [ __ ] awesome And that’s that’s what I think that’s where I join you Sully on Like I think that’s the best story line But maybe that’s just me getting older a little bit I mean do you think for those reasons he’s almost under the most pressure tomorrow whether that’s self-imposed or otherwise yeah I don’t know I don’t know It’s a That’s a really good question You You’d have to ask him I think But it’s like I think that he hopefully he’ll speak I don’t I don’t know Oh he doesn’t I I think if he’s approaching it the right way hopefully a lot of the same stuff you heard from Justin Rose is like it’s all gravy at this point You know I don’t think he I don’t think he needs it necessarily I think hopefully he’s looking at it as an opportunity rather than you know some some death sentence if he doesn’t get it done But tiny bit of mental he was like I’m glad I’m one shot back and don’t have to sleep on the lead Kind of somewhat comment he said uh in the post game I was I don’t know if I want to hear that I mean you’d rather be a shot up like I don’t know if that’s uh you know the property You think it’s great for him that he is in the final group There’s I think there is something about being you know in that final too So I I like that for him I mean think about for all he’s done for the game too like just ab for the last 10 years absolutely punting attire back to the field like just dressing in horrific colors for a a solid decade just to like not stunt on his competitors Let’s not let’s not look past that I mean it’s been some really bad stuff What would you suggest he should be wearing well I mean if he just he was wearing like the crispiest sweaters back in the day like he was like a Burberry like model and then he just became I don’t know what happened with the mismatching browns and all of that but I think he honestly was just like tired of stunting on people I threw an alley up into the first row I thought you were going to go to the H&M read Listen you can grab a piece of the US Open with our friends at Holderness and Warren Damn I’m off my game man Get back out deep Get back out deep Flicking I’m like Scotty this week I’m pulling I’m left I’m left all week Uh grab a piece of the US Open with our friends at Holderness and Bourne Their entire US Open collection is available now on their website That website is hbgolf.com And be on the lookout They they are dropping their entire summer collection Tuesday the 17th coming up here They got new colors Cody showing some of these up on the on the screen right now Andover blue bottoms ivy bottoms cape colorway saffron colorway uh ivy that has a very oak mont feel And if you’re in a pinch you know an H&B gift card you can send this little segment to a to a spouse of yours if they may have forgot about Father’s Day or if you haven’t gotten anything for your dad Father’s Day card for your dad That’s a no-brainer H&B gift card would make a great Father’s Day gift Uh you can also use code NLU10 at hbgolf.com for 10% off your first order That is the only that and the trap draw are the only discount codes on the in the market for the for the entire world for HMBB That’s hbgolf.com We’ve worked with them for almost a decade They make incredible stuff You guys got some polos on I’m wearing the Lawson hoodie which is just it’s unbel it’s so soft It feels like a thousand hoodie and it’s not $1,000 Let me tell you that Uh I bought this one at at at uh Tree Farm because that’s how much I love this hoodie So nut10hbgolf.com 10% off your order Let me let me say this about HMBB as well I was talking to you guys before TC always want you know understandably he always wants us in in the latest colorways you know show off the new HMBB stuff I haven’t ordered HMBB stuff in years because my this stuff never wears out Yeah I’m always like I’m like “Oh no I wear those shirts all the time I don’t need new shirts What are you talking about?” So I finally got some new ones and it was it was a joy to unwrap them So thank you to those guys Uh here’s here’s the final thing I wanted to add on on Adam Scott before we get into it Uh it’s been a long time since we’ve we’ve been in this position I was kind of you know he he’s kind of had some backdoor top 10s top 10 at like T10 at the Open last year but really if I’m being charitable here I think we got to go back to probably let’s see 2019 US Open shot 68 in the final round to vault up the board I think we got to go to the 2019 PGA probably was uh 74 in the last round to fall to T8 That kind of feels like the last time we’ve really been under the pump in a Sunday major championship which is six years ago almost Uh that’s that’s not a that’s not a small thing I don’t think So uh you know I I don’t know if you guys have anything to add there or we’ll get into predictions and and all that Let’s do let’s unveil the takes I think it’s uh it’s time we face showing us the takes If you’re just joining us if you’re just joining us here’s here’s the thought We’re we’re thinking of segments today We’re brainstorming and we’re like “Oh you know what’ be kind of fun is you know shout out to the the old Rder Cup stuff the man in the envelope.” Like what if we put some takes in the envelope before this round starts let’s each write down five takes Here’s thing five things we think are going to happen and uh you know we’ll put them in the envelope We’ll send them to Cody No one else can see them and we’ll unveil them uh one by one on the show the the thought to add an extra wrinkle here I don’t know if this worked for you guys or not was kind of to go and like uh put your best guy out first you know and see how many you could you could stack up So uh I was just shooting from the hip I was S was more of a Tom Watson type of captain Just eye test Uh you know the order just put him out there roll the balls out Let’s just make I was kind of channeling my project Pat Hurst from the Soul Hunting Cup several years ago Like what do you need oh you need five Okay yeah here five Uh Randy which five would you put out i don’t know Uh so without further ado uh Sully I believe is first Let’s let’s hear your first take This was uh your first thought on what was going to happen today First take is a good one Sam Burns leads I said it minus one Uh I thought it was going to be harder than it than it was today You didn’t know it was going to rain You know and I mean honestly adding that minus one that’s like two takes in there Oh dude I was I went specific here I mean I was going uh you know we had some fun with specific predictions last night as well but I I went very specific I said next up I said Scotty is going to be four back at plus three He’s at plus four He is eight back I’m not going to call that one I’m I’m going to I’m not going to call it a dub I’m not going to let you guys call that a dub Okay No come on Don’t be so I’m not I’m not I got to I got to I got to call my own penalties on myself here That That ball moved and that’s a that’s a penalty on me You know what i I think I would have cozy to that one I would have put that in my envelope as well I think that was a good that was a good prediction I’m lucky This one was closer than it’s going to look Okay And I thought I was going to celebrate this like 90 seconds maybe 9 and 1 half seconds after he hit the first shot of the day which I thought Victor Hob was going to make a triple today And he got lucky on one that he found that ball and his uh third shot hit a tree and redirected onto the green He only ended up making bogey with that one But uh he I predict he was going to make a me that was I thought he was going to make a mess on one hole and he tried to from the very jump Well why don’t we why don’t we linger on Havland for a little bit because we didn’t we haven’t really talked about him yet But yeah that that first t-shot again s you you mentioned you know on Thursday like he might be the new Jordan Spith Even Jordan Spith might be the old Jordan Spith He might be the like who knows He’s also still Jordan Sp He’s also still Jordan But that first T- shot from Havlin was just like oh yep like that’s it like cut to Havlin and reaching in the bushes tried to find his ball I was like “What are we in for today?” And God he settled down man He settled down and looked really He looked like a real golfer there I Randy what were what was your take away from watching Young Hob yeah God I I I thought we were in for a long day Um and again this was this was a little bit pre premoisture um two bogeies in the first three but but credit to him You know he’s been talking about he’s hitting the ball well and the iron play showed up I mean he hit it fabulously uh on on his approach play Did not drive the ball well but I I was really impressed you know I I think exemplified by that up and down on uh on 17 Maybe the moment of the day Yeah Like I I I think Vic was just like truly man He he he got the ball in the hole today I I I don’t think and honestly it gives me a lot of uh hope for him tomorrow Like I I think he almost maybe got away with his his poor play today perhaps We’ll we’ll see Um I I could see him kind of taking a lot weirdly taking a lot of confidence from today being like man I I put a good number up without necessarily having my agame which I think is super impressive I have been of the opinion that I don’t trust him to make it last 72 holes Like it doesn’t look sustainable Not guaranteeing he’s going to play great tomorrow but I’m I’m off of that Like I I think what he’s doing is like sustainable Like he’s clearly playing very good golf I’ll give you this Round one proximity to the hole number one in the field 22′ 4 in Round three proximity to the hole number one in the field 22 feet 4 in Exact same proximity in rounds one and three third in iron play uh for the week So proximity might not be a good thing with some of those pins though Miss on the wrong side of some of those You don’t want to be close to the hole You could be away and you’re totally port Some of those you’d rather be 50 feet up the hill than 3 feet above the hole Like totally that’s proximity We might we might throw that one out this this week But I think it speaks to man he looks like he’s confident He he looks like he can win this championship And I know that’s a total eye test thing but I I’m just impressed with the way he’s carrying himself And I I think he believes that he can win He’s got to got to drive a little better than mine My iron swing looks so good Cody Cody just sent this quote uh into our our chat here Uh pretty pleased with how I b This is from Victor obviously Pretty pleased with how I battled out there Didn’t get off to a great start Just kept plugging along Hit some great iron shots Made some nice putts around the turn there Really nice par putt on 15 and an awesome birdie on 17 A little bitter about my driver I just can’t seem to figure it out It’s kind of a lingering problem all this year It’s just kind of pissed Uh which is good stuff And uh I would co-sign that with with some of those those swings we saw down the stretch particularly the one on on 18 That that seemed to be him externalizing uh the feeling of this is just kind of pissed there Good stuff from uh death metal speed Yeah death metal speed is is really good That was not that was somebody sent that on Twitter earlier this week It was very good I like that Uh so let’s get to your your fourth prediction here Yeah This one didn’t end up move on Great Uh Ben Griffin’s going to be in the final group He finished very poorly It was not that close to happening anyways but doubled 18 Uh bogey 14 15 and 16 as well Shot 74 Um he’s sitting there T1 I’m still team Griffin Uh I really like this dude Yeah Uh but he will not be in the final pairing tomorrow He is going to be playing with Victor Perez at 12:31 uh about an hour and 45 minutes before uh the last tea time So uh last one Tristan Lawrence I’d say he was going to shoot 77 today That really that was pre- rain All right that makes me feel better about mine Mean-spirited It was very mean-spirited I just thought he was going to evacuate Uh he shot 74 yesterday and looked lost after a hot start Uh and thought it was going to get uh a lot worse It did not So not great predictions not proud of him but uh that’s been pretty much my entire US Open at Oakmont Well Cody who do you want to uh let let me go next Let me go next because I I will pick up the ball right there Sully and say that my first prediction was uh Tristan Lawrence shoots 75 or worst Okay Uh and first hole I’m like it was kind of the Havlin thing You know he’s got like a 15footer for for par I’m like oh we’re so God 75 is not even that’s not high enough cashes it Next hole he’s got another log part but they cut to him cashes it I’m like “Oh god.” He had gained like three shots on the greens in the first like five holes or something like that I’m like “This can’t be sustainable.” And then he just started hitting the [ __ ] out of the ball Played a really really really nice round of golf Shot even par bogey on 18 kind of coming in that kept him out of the red But man I I was legitimately very impressed And I will say the man in the envelope thing kind of makes you watch some of these guys a lot closer So we might need to keep this segment along I didn’t have time to put this together Maybe we can if he has a good final round tomorrow Uh maybe we can we can task somebody with this as well of just like a list of players that Tristan Lawrence has been like decidedly more competitive than in majors over the last two seasons Like he had a great finish at the open last year Uh like JT Sping is depressing Like list off the names and you’re going to find like he’s had better and well he’s not finished yet So if he has a top five we might have to do that tomorrow night on the show But he I mean he made four birdies and is like he’s just doing a lot well He’s making a ton of putts obviously but he’s not really faking his way around I mean you can see where he was hitting a lot of those shots today Like I I don’t know I don’t know that he’s going to win but I don’t think he’s I don’t think he’s going away I think he’s going to cash a check tomorrow you know but Uh Cody my second prediction please Sam Burns leads by two or more We were so close We’re so close on this Adam Scott just found it Uh and you know we didn’t we didn’t uh weren’t able to get one more coming in there So but I I’ll take Sam Burns leads by one That’s I I feel pretty good about that Don’t give me the dub there That’s not correct Sorry But I will I feel okay with that one I think we we start to get off the rails a little bit here Number three uh Keegan Bradley’s in the top 10 Uh Keegan Bradley is not in the top 10 He is T21 He uh he kind of spit the bit before birdie in 16 and 17 Uh played a aspirational front nine Nine pars I mean that’s that’s it man US Open golf That’s my captain My playing captain right there Uh and then three bogeies in his next five holes unfortunately or six holes kind of undid him but salvaged it a little bit T-21 in a bunched you know I think those leaders are have kind of separated but that that group there’s a lot of people from plus three to plus five I mean there’s a it’s kind of a cash giveaway tomorrow So Keegan can can hoover up some points tomorrow You know I will be rooting for that That’s not how the math works but whatever The math works What are you talking about he would even if he he would have to finish like top three to even get within the top 10 probably I’m not saying he needs to qualify tomorrow I’m saying like the major chances are double points right one last good It’s one and a half points and there’s one last good chance after this one If he doesn’t win the open okay your dream of qualifying is over Text him You should text him and tell him to WD tomorrow It’s [ __ ] again We We just mentioned Tristan Lawrence just beating up all these little boy American players I I I don’t know how we flip like this Sully on on captain Did you hear kids taking your your tack just pleading the fifth in the booth they didn’t want to fax it was like the first time all day captain the first time all day fax was like we should have a conversation I think you should be on the writer cup team and kids just [ __ ] just like you guys fax this 0.8 seconds and just like oh you should do it We should do it I honestly think first of all that’s not true and it’s insulting and second I honestly think thinking about it for 08 seconds is better than thinking about it non-stop for the last 15 years because that hasn’t I haven’t thought about it non-stop because he’s the captain he’s saying he’s not picking himself Cody my next my next prediction please Brooks loses at least a shot on the greens take this one to the [ __ ] fell uh he did not lose one shot on the greens he lost 3.1 shots on the Jesus I had a I don’t know I just had a sense at first I was like you know what i think Brooks is going to play really well today Started digging in I was like actually I think Brooks is going to continue to not putt it well And I think that’s going to catch up with him today And that was that was a bit of blind squirrel but we’ll uh we’ll take a W there I mean three putted the first hole I believe And that was the one the one moment on the first hole where I was like “Oh okay All right We might be on to something here.” No more people pulling rabbits out of the hats Number five I I was feeling good about I was riding the roller coaster for a second Jordan Speed is going to birdie the last two holes He birdied 17 and then he drove in the bunker on 18 Had to wedge out made like a 15footer for par So uh we will not catch that one but it was interesting for a minute Donna quickly synthesize our our Jordan Speed discussion from earlier offline No there’s going to be so many bots coming at me I was saying he’s like Sam Alman some of these AI guys you know these guys who are like representing this this brave new world You know there’s so many new things that are possible We can push human potential so far And really it’s like I think you guys are just doing you’re a danger to yourself and others and and someone needs to just step in and and you know maybe the discussion occurred I think speed had gotten it to like three over total This was right before the rain maybe And we were like Jordan you need to really think about the consequences putting yourself in contention Like you’re like people these are our lives Like when when we root for you and we want you to do well Has anybody done any modeling on what these tools are going to do to people’s brains what’s this going to do to society if Yeah exactly in the top 10 today And of course you know that he he steps up and makes a triple on on the 15th It was kind of Yeah All you know it all worked out But uh those are my five uh predictions in the envelope Big Randy I cannot wait to see what what you came up with here from the I can’t either I honestly I forget half of them Uh Cody let’s roll the footage What’s my number one oh this is terrible None of the top three Spawn Burns or Vic shoot under paranza there No I guess I got Vic Vic came in at even Um but Spawn and and Burns both shot 69s That’s a disappointment I I wanted that one to be true Um okay number two Let’s keep I don’t think it’s going to get any better Spoiler Uh total score that burns spawn pairing is over 150 138 We just missed that by 12 Um [ __ ] rain Yeah I didn’t trust either of them at the beginning of the day I did not trust either of them Randy Oak is not here to embarrass the best podcasters in the world Just here to identify them That’s right Exactly Well said That’s right Uh put put too many eggs in this basket I love I love that swing though I mean imagine if that did hit That’s out two too That’s out two I don’t even know what’s coming after this These are supposed to be the locks Uh number three Nobody finishes round three under par for the week You know I thought we had a look at this again I’m pissed at this rain Yeah Uh but obviously this this didn’t come to fruition Four people out of 156 is still you know it’s not that bad The brain was forecasted This is not I was seeing you know it might stay north I was hopeful Yeah You win some you lose some You can see what kind of day I was rooting for though It doesn’t get better No it doesn’t No it doesn’t I think I got a Ben Griffin play in here somewhere Number four Ben Griffin is your outright leader after round three with an even par 70 Um we talked about his struggles coming in I I actually like that play and I Ben Griffin’s growing on me I’m I’m I’m digging the the Aviators the old school sunglasses I I like what he’s about I was telling you guys on Slack it was a bleak moment there for a while when I found myself saying “Man this is this is a slog We need our guy Ben Griffin to do something.” And I was like that’s a tough that’s a tough place to find yourself But uh yeah I’m with you I found myself rooting for him too Patience Uh five Oh yeah This one sucks Kept to shoot 69 isn’t in and is in Sunday’s final pairing It’s tough Listen when he three putted the first I I’m glad DJ was happy I wasn’t That was a bad sign of things to come Let’s see Let’s see Let’s see some people drop five takes in the comments Not the live chat in the comments on the YouTube video Drop five Email me if you if you think you had the best five and maybe we’ll maybe the merch star will be benevolent and get you uh a little gift from the pro shop Maybe I haven’t checked Put some on the record for tomorrow Give us your best five It’s harder than It’s harder than it looks That’s a fun game though I hope you guys like that one That was I think that needs to stick around That was I’m 0 for five I’m never going to be asked a captain again Uh it was it was a pleasure boys We just couldn’t make any putts man couldn’t make any They just made more putts than us They kept I’m I’m putting the I’m putting them out there and they’re not getting it done for me You know my job’s done once I put them out there Oh man Uh Sy where do you want to go next you want to go to the the proper test index or or what yeah I mean we could talk a little OP We could go through disappointments if we wanted to We could do kind of what would we could maybe I don’t know You tell me what what what’s the order we want to go in here Let’s do the proper test index and then uh maybe we talk a little a couple disappointments after that Uh Randy you know if people missed this on yesterday’s show please please get them up to speed Uh I don’t know why God this just like came to me more I’m like how do I how do I quantify when I really love a US Open and I I truly think the best metric like I truly may have stumbled into something here Uh Brody if you want to talk I’m I’m available But we we’re gonna we we created the proper test index which is the ratio of scores in the 80s to scores in the 60s And I was curious of course recent US Opens Uh thank you to everybody that’s reached out Some people have crunched the numbers for me We we have a uh a resource bottleneck here at at Randall Enterprises But yesterday when I did it at Oakmont I believe we were at like 1.64 which was a fabulous number We were getting you know almost one dotting man One and a half Yeah More rounds in the 80s than 60s I was loving life Uh I can report after completing round three today for the week now we have 31 rounds in the 80s 29 in the 60s So we are currently at 1.07 I was curious how that stacked up to prior Oakmont US Opens and 2016 was a 0.35 with 51 scores in the 60s only 18 in the 80s But guys I I know there’s a reason 2007 Oakmont like just stands out as like this is the US Open for me The PTI that year was seven and a half There were 60 scores in the 80s and only eight in the 60s on the entire week um the the the the largest PTI on record I think in the last like 10 years going back to Marian uh DJ I don’t know who sent this over but Marian is our leader in the PTI it finished at 1.39 Shinikok in 2018 was 1.22 and uh Oakmont today is at 1.07 07 that would be the third hardest Uh I think going back to that Marian year that was from listener Alex So thank you to listener Alex We we have not vetted his math I think it was a very eye test uh going from from you know Wikipedia page to Wikipedia page So nobody checked that but I I think that’s probably very close And it’s also Yeah Go ahead No sorry I I was curious about one more open because the the the other one I’m sure you guys think it too 2004 at Shinikok was like the one I was like curious about and the overall PTI is only 0.95 but the weekend PTI the Saturday Sunday was 11 You had 33 rounds in the 80s on the weekend and only three in the 60s in 2004 at Shinock I think that’s why I enjoyed it so much We lost it It’s gone Do you uh Hey guys real quick if Could you send me listener Alex’s like contact information or something like that so I can send him over something he he did a ton of work here and I know people don’t know this but you guys will literally open any link that’s sent to you Uh major like fishing stuff going on It’s tough as the chief security officer of this company I I always worry about that And sorry we’re going to the safety net man I don’t have worries anymore What happens if we Yeah I feel like what happens if we do that you know why I got no worries Cody because we got delete me product And I think we could use this time uh to to visit maybe some of our disappointments from the day The the people that just said delete me from this leaderboard Uh and I think this might be have to be a recurring segment cuz that was the first thing I thought of when we when we uh first met with Delete Me was like “Oh this is going to fit very very well with our show.” Oh I love it Thanks Thank you to Delete Me Uh Sully who’s on your list you want to You want to kick it off yeah Kepka Got faked out by that one Just totally especially he was vibing He was walking into into the into the grounds today Just turned and looked at some female like just gave a very obvious look at someone was saying he’s looking at a baby It was a very funny image Uh either way but uh uh I thought he was vibing his face off He was not He What did he finish at um I I think four over Yeah he shot three over today 7473 the last two rounds after opening with 68 Five over total Still sitting there at T-21 Uh you know a decent result considering how he was playing coming into that But that was uh not a good round of golf John Rom delete me with this man 7573 the last two days Hate it uh worse than field average today The field average was just a bit over 72 today Cannot have Rahm going backwards like that on a Saturday I know we’re trying to get over this narrative of he you know Liv is is you know he’s still playing great golf on Liv and he’s game hasn’t dipped Like dude it only matters what you do in the majors now You know that I know that We all know that And when you delete yourself from contention uh it’s going to deserves a call out That’s a compliment to you I mean the worst thing we could do is ignore it Uh but you’re too good of a player to be sitting here at T35 in this golf tournament Tony can I nominate one please we got done with Thursday’s show and we’re looking at this guy poking around the top of the leader board He’s next He was next And it it’s just a setup that makes so much sense He drives it long enough He’s become one of the straightest drivers on planet Earth He’s one of the best iron players on planet Earth Uh ninth in strokes gained off the T sixth in strokes gained approach this week and T39 on your leaderboard Colin work how a delete me Uh I hate that That sucks I wanted him to I wanted him to be in the mix I was looking forward to it this week Randy Well he had a chance Like even today he was two over total uh on 8T and then you know four bogeies and a double over his last 11 holes People bet man I mean he was beyond deleted He yeated himself out of this picture He is the worst in the field in putting by over three shots He is three shots worse than Matthew Pavon who is second worst He has lost 6.7 shots on the greens alone 6 He’s he’s eight under eight over total He put neutral and he’s sitting there what one over par going into the final round Like uh it’s it’s for somebody who came out and stormed out and won a couple majors It’s been it’s been a tough go and it’s it’s little boy adjacent Um Sunj plus six delete me Just then nothing I mean you I forget who was getting overhyped on Sunj on Thursday but we tried to call that out in the moment And I’m I’m over this guy We And I know we mentioned it but Speed’s triple on 15 was a true delete me moment And then he followed it up with a bogey on 16 just for good measure He only shot one over today though He didn’t fully uh deet himself out of out of the out of the entire tournament That was a tough moment coming off some good momentum He was two under on the day before he uh before he [ __ ] that up I I think uh my my guy Danny McCarthy had his identity stolen today You know he was he’s supposed to be one of the straightest drivers of the golf ball and just kind of ended up hitting it all over the yard shooting 76 today He was a I was feeling good about him for a top 20 and just he he made me feel foolish there Cool That’s that’s all I’ve got for deleted I like that There were some higher numbers too We just don’t need to you know punch down Cam David Davis shot 82 today Matthew Pavon shot 81 Uh you know well I was gonna I was going to go back to the the PTI for a sec because we’re we’re I feel like 1.0 It’s much like OPS you know I think one one dotting is like that’s that’s the the mark of a true superstar And I’m worried about tomorrow I’m worried about we might fall under the threshold with rain and no wind man Like good man these pictures they’re optimized You know it’s a juice ball and it’s a juice ball in a new level of of equipment Like equipment has changed a lot and and player profiles have changed a lot since 2016 If you’re not satisfied with the scoring of this US Open just it you’re not ever going to be satisfied the US Open I’m sorry Uh that’s not directed at you Randy That’s directed at the people that are calling CPC Oakmont on Thursday Like I I am get more upset about the roll back then And I know you’re already there so I don’t need to I don’t I’m not need to preach that to you We try not to litter all of our US Open shows with roll back talk but if this scoring is not good enough for you then you you you got to join us on the roll back thing because it’s it’s hopefully obvious at this point Well yeah So talking about who’s been over one I said 2013 Marian was 1.39 Shinikok 2018 1.22 Oakmont’s 1 what05 now And then there’s a big gap like uh the next best is Olympic in 2012 was.60 Um but then it quickly gets down I mean we’re talking like 34 and below for 2016 2014 2017 2015 So like the Oakmont and Shinik which I know like the like this is all I got man The these are like my chances for for what gets me going Yeah So I God I just want to see some freaking carnage tomorrow Will we keep it over one i don’t think so If more rains come let me look at a forecast Let me And it’s better players now Like all the qualifiers are gone Like I think it is going to get a little little bit better That’s what made 2004 Shinikok We’re talking about post cut was an 11 on the weekend man Inject that in my veins You just don’t get that [ __ ] anymore Sie I know But it’s also not the good stuff It’s also not like what they’re trying to do anymore And I know you want it but they’re just like very very clearly not trying to do that anymore Like they that’s We used to be a real country you know it’s just chalk it up Give these guys We don’t need to do all of it You guys weren’t on the show last night Uh but Oakmont or Pinehurst uh for you guys i listened to this conversation this morning while I was running around doing some errands and and was thinking about my answers Uh I’m Pinehurst I think just and that’s personal you know just because I have more familiarity and I I think Pinehurst has a similar um if you haven’t been I I could see Pinehurst being a very similar experience to watching Oakmont on TV cuz like it’s very hard to tell those holes apart A lot of those par fours look very similar and I think we’re we’re operating with the benefit of having seen them a bunch of times and played them and doing all that But with that benefit I would say Pinehurst At a certain point we got to address that it might just be NBC making these holes all look similar as well But Randy would you have Pinehurst or or Oakmont um listen I don’t want every US Open at Oakmont I think they’re a good ying and yang I I think they balance each other well Again just for my money I I tend to want more of just the brute difficulty So I I lean Oakmont as a US Open test But that’s to take nothing away from Piners I thought last year’s Piners tournament was was a ton of fun Yeah I I will say the forecast tomorrow unfortunately uh could be up to like a half inch of rain and it all looks like after noon So like the only afternoon the only hope I’ll give you there is what S and Toronto have been saying and I think they’ve been very right about a lot of this is like the rain can also make this place harder off the greens True You know that rough like when it gets wet is very very very gnarly And you heard Hatton talking like you know that was like a mudball and like some of that stuff today So hold out hold out hope Consider the source there of course but uh hold out hope Not not all is lost quite yet I know you you need you need this You need this Uh Randy I thought this was a good question you you posed in Slack Uh just kind of a what would a what would a win for blank mean and let’s start at the top of the board and talk about Mr Sam Burns He has five PJ tour wins He’s got one major top 10 in 19 starts as his 20th major Sie what does what does a major win mean for Sam Burns what’s it do for you yeah I mean you it’s I was trying to think so I like the Windham Clark thing caught me by surprise because I think during 2023 I just kept saying like Windham Clark’s not going to win the US Open and he did and now I’m like part of me would at the beginning would want to say like Sam Burns is not going to win the US Open but I I think he very well can I think it uh it it elevates him to a completely different tier It’s a He’s such a weird career Like we don’t talk about him as an elite player His resume is somewhat similar to Max Homa but is not nearly the fan favorite that Max Homa is That I think he has five career wins Max has six He’s won what two two Valpars a match play Colonial and one more that I’m forgetting Uh remember Houston or something maybe So he just he goes from like Sanderson Farms That’s right Sanderson I honestly don’t think about him come major weeks I just don’t you know I don’t put him in fantasy lineups I don’t have ever have him in picks for top 20s Like I just think he’s more of a PJ tour player than a major championship killer And obviously we’d have to erase all of that um on just a really really freaking proper test I I don’t know if it like changes how I think of him as a player He’s always been one to just be able to get smoking hot and go on offense To do it on a setup like this though I think would I don’t know I’d have to think about some things I’d have to it would be you know I I’m not I would not be positive this is a leap for him I just think he is gonna eb and flow and we might forget about him two months from now Um but it would be obviously just a put him in a completely different echelon but kind of more in the Gary Woodland of like took the words out of my mouth such a good comp that didn’t really change a lot for your career Uh lifetime achievement sort of major you know that that I think makes you remembered much more fondly but I don’t know that it’s like changing my picks for Port Rush necessarily or anything like that Well I think to frame this whole combo too is just like we we got to look at the run of major winners we’ve had for like going all the way back to Gary Woodland probably and just recognize how ridiculous this run has been to the point where it feels like Burns was plus 7500 before the week and that feels way off the board uh for a potential winner for sure I I do think it’s interesting um outside of God my guy Sam Parks Jr in 1935 Everybody that’s won a US Open right I’m I’m doing this on the fly at Oakmont has won multiple majors DJ Anhill Ernie Larry Nelson Johnny Miller So it could pretend really well for Sam Burns You know I I wouldn’t count him out certainly for picking off another one So I agree with you Like it’s it’s everything for him in his career Just getting getting one major is such a big deal Uh I I love that Woodland comp That that’s kind of where I think I would I would categorize him in my mind And also I mean the the Woodland thing this is maybe low hanging fruit but it’s like who knows what would have happened to his career without the massive massive medical derailment that he went on you know after after the US Open So and Randy I would be remiss if I didn’t mention your your stat in the preview You know seven of those nine Oakmont winners won their first major at Oakmont Yeah Which obviously you look at the leaderboard it’s I I think it’s Yeah something about this place which I think makes it interesting if you if you’re willing to kind of go on that journey Agree Let’s go to Adam Scott 44y old Adam Scott I pulled this stat fairly quickly I hope this is right I think there have been 233 major winners in history something like that And only 89 have won multiple So we’re talking less than 100 people in the history of the game uh have won multiple majors It feels extremely fitting for Adam Scott like we said up front Uh I know we kind of talked about some of this on the on the front end but Randy any anything else kind of to add for what this this means other than kind of a a career achievement life i think you know I I don’t get like too enthused but I think it’s like you know maybe Hall of Fame or not for Adam Scott Yeah I I certainly think you know 15 and two majors is seems like a Hall of Fame resume Um plus the play I think it isn’t it you’re if you get two majors and a players and 15 wins I think you’re automatic I think it’s I think so Nobody cares I I think the most interesting thing I we we touched on it so I’ll just repeat myself quickly is like I think there’s a case to be made without a second major You could you could make a strong case that Adam Scott’s career has been disappointing in some senses compared to expectations And I think that pretty much all goes away tomorrow if he wins it which is um yeah that’s that’s pretty heavy You know DJ I know you’re a huge fan of this We’ve referenced it before but if you’re somewhat new to the show Data Golf has an awesome tool called the Data Golf uh points list So it’s basically if you’re a baseball fan it’s like career war Wins above replacement it you know strokes gain average is a big like it’s an average of all of your performances whereas we most um associate the success of somebody’s career with their results Kind of like an OWGR but basically it it dos out points Like if you win a major it’s worth this many points If you win a kind of rankings a little it is it’s like a hard to argue with kind of thing like what you’ve accomplished in your career It dates back to 1983 on the PGA tour Um there’s there’s a little bit of noise and all this but it doesn’t include Jack and Arie and all that everything that happened pre you know 83 But it has they have Adam Scott as the 14th ranked player of all time since 1983 So the guys above him Tiger Woods Phil Mickelson VJ Singh Rory Mroy Ernie Ells Jim Furick Davis Love theI third Greg Norman Sergio Garcia Fred Couples Justin Rose Nick Price Dustin Johnson then Adam Scott 538 career starts He’s won uh three worldwide tours eight DP World Tours 14 13 regular PGA Tour events plus 2004 players on top of one major championship So three of those guys are one major guys Justin Rose Fred Couples Sergio Davis Love Jim Furick are all one major guys Um so he is yeah the fifth sixth be ranked one major guy since 1983 That’s a mouthful of a stat but a good stat I like that Yeah he’s just ahead of Bernard Longer and Payne Stewart Nick Faldo Marco Meer things of that nature Lee Westwood Mark Calaveia Uh well let’s move down the board Tied with Adam Scott JJ Spawn I feel bad he’s got an extremely short shrift on this show just by playing a [ __ ] really good round of golf today and absolutely hanging on I I I love I’m trying to think of of another example like this is I I can’t think of a good example Maybe you guys have one but there there are guys that go on these these spurts like that and and they’re always like Sally when you guys go and do the deep dives you know 10 years from now there’s guys that just pop up at every major throughout a season like that Like Ricky you know finishing top five in all five major or all four majors uh in 2014’s kind of a bad example but I love JJ Spawn for the role he’s playing this year is what I’m trying to get at I love that he was there at the players going toe-to-toe with Rory in a playoff I love that he’s you know in the second to last group at the US Open Uh it’s again I don’t know if he’s gonna go win five more times on the PJ tour I don’t know if he’s going to win tomorrow I don’t know if he’s going to win five more majors But I love that he’s uh he he’s taking incremental steps And I don’t know if you guys have kind of a you know what a major would win would mean for him other than probably a lot of shade as like a fluky major and oh man we were due for a dud and like some of a lot of that backhanded stuff that’s not his fault Uh but anything else kind of to to add on what it would mean for him i I think it is going to that it will undoubtedly be how the general public views it I guess from watching the golf this week from doing this job for now a decade plus it is way harder for me to get to that conclusion That’s just like me wish wishing for a better story and a better leaderboard versus like dude he went out and [ __ ] whooped everybody’s ass And if I felt like Oakmont was a blender and it wasn’t a good test of skill and it was putting everybody in the same buckets and bad shots weren’t punished and he was getting lucky on the greens and lucky with up and downs I might feel differently but I do not I think this is a marvelous test of golf Said this earlier but like it is just because some un somewhat unexpected names are at the top does not mean it is those guys are playing the best golf If you’ve watched Scotty if you’ve watched Rom if you’ve watched Morawa you’ve watched these dudes like fail the tests Like that’s just it They haven’t gotten unlucky They haven’t gotten put into the blender where like good shots have gotten really bad punishments They just haven’t hit the shots And these guys are hitting the shots So it’s really hard for me to to get worked up over a JJ Spawn win If he goes out and earns it tomorrow dude that is a it’s [ __ ] Oakmont dude This is not like again this is not uh I I hate to throw shade obviously like Valhalla and Quail are the easy punching bags but this is not a bad major venue of any kind Like this is so earned if he goes out and wins it tomorrow I like this comment from Amal This is like it’d be like Brian Harmon winning the Open a couple years ago which is just like man tip your cap That guy played such smart golf He made a million putts That’s how I feel like watching JJ Sp I kind of felt that way with the players too I mean Rory came and and you know obviously harvested some souls in that in that playoff It didn’t look like JJ was quite quite up for it that morning but I think this has been very different I don’t know what we’re going to see tomorrow if he learned anything from that or yada yada yada but man he’s been playing real golf and like very smart golf He’s playing in the right spots He’s driving it really good and he he looks like he’s up for it and I’m interested to see what happens tomorrow So I would enjoy I think a JJ Spawn win Talk about a grinder has has truly worked his way up to the top of the professional game Uh it it it reminds me you know I was standing on the the 18th T- box at last year’s NIT and I was one under par I’ve never shot under par uh in my life and I I thought to myself this could be the only chance I get in my life Uh I bogeied that hole so I did not shoot under par But like this I I don’t know I I get a kick out of thinking like man this could be JJ Spawn’s shot at a major you know 34 years old like having a great year but to to be in this position Uh what what excitement I I I I hope he relishes the moment I I hope he’s present I I think the players experience should really help him you would think Um I’m I’m excited to see how he plays tomorrow I wouldn’t bet on him winning but I certainly would not be upset if he does He’s not enough of an underdog to for it to be like he’s in that that fatty middle of like recognizable name He’s won on tour second in the players this year but he’s not like off the map This would be an incredible story if this guy won And that’s kind of the worst place to live from a fan appeal standpoint Just doing quick So he’s the 25th ranked data golf player in the world right now Quick back of the napkin if I’m missing somebody like I think he’d be the highest ranked data golf player to win a major since Shane Lowry was 35th when he won at Port Rush in 2019 That could be remind me if somebody else uh has been a higher like a a kind of a more of a surprise winner Maybe Kepka Kepco with surprise in 2023 Could have been I I again I’m kind of doing this on the fly but he it’s kind of it’s surprising we haven’t had somebody outside like the top 20 uh win a major again I’m using data golf not official world golf rankings uh for that but I’m guessing no Kepka was was up there It kind of reminds me again I don’t think this is apples to apples necessarily but uh because I think he was higher I think he was like 14 or 15 in the world but almost like Danny Willlet you know where it’s like he was 12th ranked in the world I remember that in 2016 But didn’t that was I think still a lot more I I don’t know a lot less people watching watching the European tour and a lot less you know casual and even like serious golf fans probably knew who he was and uh but the people you know the balln knowers were kind of like oh I mean that guy’s really really good that makes sense that he would win a big tournament Kept was 38th Um but Kepka is an anomaly because he doesn’t play golf outside the majors I mean sorry I know it’s super recent but like Windham Clark right doesn’t it I I don’t know I guess we still have a lot of chapters to write for Windham Clark but I could see them ending pretty similarly I mean Windham Clark’s best result in a major outside winning the US Open is a tie for 40 or a tie for 33rd I think there’s a pretty specific case to be made for JJ as far as like these two golf courses that he’s playing really well on too Sawrass and Oakmont are both like drive it pretty straight Hit your irons in the right spots and you’re going to actually have a chance rather than just getting your doors blown off by a bunch of dudes who are driving it you know 50 past you and wedging it on And so I think the my counter to to the Windham Clark thing was like he went on a tear after that because he had the pre prerequisite you know and he won well he was like he was actually 11th or 12th in the rankings when he won cuz he had won he was playing really good golf in that stretch but um that wasn’t close I mean I think that’s an interesting comp Randy like just from the perspective of what you were saying on like this could be the shot is it’s also like look at this golf course that we’re playing you know this is not Quill Hollow just does not even though I mean he played I think he finished like T8 there or something didn’t he but um he doesn’t have that many cracks at the modern day PJ tour I don’t think I think he’s pretty course dependent which is another kind of bit of pressure tomorrow probably um couple other guys uh Randy I want to throw this one to you uh he’s got three top fives in majors Victor Havland guy has emerged from the wilderness uh maybe it’s real maybe It’s not I think everybody on planet Earth would love to see it Uh what what say you yeah I including myself I I think this is somebody that we’ve had expectations for right he and he’s certainly shown flashes but this this would be a true step up in class for for Victor Havlin I mean it just puts him on a whole different plane And I I think it would demand that we think and talk about him in different terms Would be an what an eighth tour win Obviously a first major I I think this could really get you excited for the you know you could talk yourself into Victor Havlin being like one of the dudes over the next three four five years I I I think this could be a tip of the iceberg moment for him I I think he profiles if you put any stock in like who we’ve seen win at Oakmont and being a first major going on to win multiple majors like man I look at Victor Havlin and he fits the profile of people who have won at at Oakmont for their first major championship with another or multiples down the road Um I I think this would be so I mean any any win at Oakmont is awesome on the resume I I Yeah I I just think this could go so far for him I think Cody had a a quote from him from his uh his presser today Yeah lots of uh funny quotes in the very much a Victor way possible But this one here I wonder how do you assess your position where you’re at right now and how badly do you want to win one of these things called a major F goes sure would like to win That’s what we practice so hard for But there’s also like a deep passion in me that just wants to hit the shots Like I want to stand on the tea and hit the shot that I’m envisioning where the ball’s going When the ball’s not doing that it bothers me He’s a process guy Results guy That’s like the golf thing for me like hitting the shot I that’s that’s really interesting Actually makes me feel better about uh his chances tomorrow I mean he was he was the second best player in the world two years ago and you could make a case that at a certain point he was the best player in the world and he got you know I again I can’t get all KBV’s reporting uh out of my head and I can’t get his own quotes out of my head but he looks really he looks the part right now Um and I I hope this would launch him back on the right path and hopefully just like just keep doing what you’re doing man you don’t have to reinvent yourself every single week Uh you are just remarkably remarkably talented and seems like he’s got a great mindset He But remember I mean if you go back to you know Oak Hill you go back to 2022 Open Championship like the Sunday thing in majors has been a a problem for Vic I don’t have the numbers in front of me but just because he hasn’t been around in one for a little while doesn’t mean it’s not you know still a problem But I think I think Oill was a little bit of a turning point right i I think back to to the old course The old course he was a missing person and like did not want it And then the next one I thought he he looked a lot better and just kind of got outdooled by by Brooks and I think the Valhalla thing’s weird because that was the he missed the cut at all the other majors that year Like I don’t think he that is probably a good comp I guess for for right now You know that kind of almost feel like it it came out of nowhere So I I don’t know You’re right like it’s I don’t totally know what we’re going to get It’s not like he’s doing this every week You know that’s kind of the thing with these majors is not only do you only get four of them but you’re only going to be in contention out of you know and if you’re a great player one out of every eight you know something something like that He did shoot 66 final round of Valhalla but that means absolutely nothing Of course um he shot 74 final round at the Open Championship in 2022 He shot 74 final round of the 2023 uh Masters as well Um when he was I don’t know what place he was in but he he was in contention of that one too So I I feel like you know what I still find myself thinking of is like I I still just associate him Colin and Matthew Wolf together I think because of the whole like class of 2019 and obviously Wol’s kind of disappeared But man this this would really kind of shift the dynamic between him and Colin I think Um you know certainly give Vic uh the leg up and what have you done for me lately i I Yeah I I think this would be a great win quite honestly for golf Like as corny as that sounds having a guy like Victor Havlin win a major like we need guys taking a step Like we’ve talked about all the little boys and you know disappointments with guys not showing up at the biggest events Um this this would be a clear case of like yeah cool Victor Hofflin won at Oakmont [ __ ] yeah I think if you if you showed me the Wikipedia page heading you know getting on a flight to go to Port Rush and you said this year’s major winners were Rory completing the Grand Slam Scotty winning the PGA and Victor Havlin regaining form I would be like sign me up for for that would watch Uh well I I think it’s time to probably play how far back is too far back And I if I heard correctly I think Dan Hicks said 51 of the last 55 US Open champs were in the top five going into the final round I believe that’s what he said Uh so consider that I will say that the the person in solo fifth we have not talked about yet is Carlos Ortiz who shot Bogey Free 67 today Bogey 18 18 to shoot 67 Hell of a round of golf from him I I will add a little bit of color there I believe he’s played nine majors and missed seven cuts Uh so I I don’t think he’s got a ton of a ton of vibes coming into uh Sunday A ton of Sunday major duels to to draw on necessarily He’s had a really good season for for what it’s worth Um I mean it’s been his best season from a strokes game perspective by far um he’s taken quite a significant leap uh over on that other tour So let me let me hold on let me Cody you put this good stat I think it was on the live from uh the 54 hole leaders at Oakmont Okay so in 2007 Aaron Battley had a two-shot lead shot 80 to finish tied for 13th 2016 Shane Lowry had a four-shot lead shot 76 to finish T2 So a tough place to hold a 54 hole lead if if recent history proves anything That was going to be my thing with the 51 out of 55 And I know everyone always thinks that they’re in the outlier uh scenario in in the present moment probably but I’m like man this there’s a lot of there’s a lot of wobble at the top of that a lot of potential wobble at the top of that board and it’s a hard as [ __ ] golf course And I think that just kind of maybe possibly changes my my personal how far back is too far back If we’re if we’re going to keep it unemotional and and get some math involved here if we have a similar day to tomorrow low round today was 67 There were two of those Adam Scott and Carlos Ortiz So it kind of depends what you think Sam Burns Adam Scott JJ Spawn are going to shoot Uh but you know let’s say somebody maybe shoots 66 four under and I got to think one of those guys probably shoots even then you’re kind of looking at I mean basically like two overs too far back I’m waiting to see some pins I don’t know if we have pins uh check yet I mean we can kind of get an idea of like are they going to set it up for a little bit of chasing are they going to try to punish people um well let me let me start let me start with this Let let’s let’s do process of elimination here Do do you guys think it’s going to be one of those top let’s call it top five hold on I want to go the opposite way Okay Well that’s how we get ourselves in trouble Well if Scotty shoots 63 I’m going Is Scotty out of it are you Are you crossing out Scotty scotty is four overpar right now Let’s say that he shoots 66 which would have been the best round today That puts him at even which means all of those guys have to shoot at least three over to get into a playoff I think Scotty’s out of it I hate saying you can dance on my grave as you want but as I say it there I’m like I don’t think all three of those guys are shooting 74 now Scotty would have to go Johnny Miller I think Scotty would have to go Johnny Miller Yeah I think that’s right Do I think Scotty’s out of it yes Am I gonna say Scotty’s out of it i will not Like I I almost want to I I want to asterisk Scotty because I you can eliminate like two over Rasmus No thank you Uh you can eliminate the group at three over like but I I’m with you S Like there’s even if it’s 01% like I I’m not eliminating Scotty yet It’s remarkable that he’s just out of this conversation Thanks to Michael Kim he posted the uh the pinch sheet online So here you go Need to zoom in a little bit here Okay one is fine Two has been in the same spot like three different times in that back pin Scotty’s been been burning uh to that back left pin That’s fine Four is a little tough Three Three is very tough That is possibility for uh balls coming off that ridge We’re back left again on five Uh similar to Friday Six Uh that’s a somewhat getable one there on six Seven seems not too difficult Eight seems not that difficult Nine seems very difficult Oh 10 is so hard That is really really hard to get close to that right pin uh on that hole 11 That seems like a birdable pin 12 could be They never They didn’t use that left tongue on 12 I could not believe they didn’t use thought the whole point of that was uh to use that one Back right on 13th that’s up good for a chaser Uh not great if you got a lead in that one 14 that’s a getable one 15 that one seems that’s pretty difficult when we played that one on the media day 16’s back right difficult 17 seems seems like pretty chasable Honestly that does not seem that ridiculous Um but like Scotty’s the best player in the world has not played like the best player in the world through three days Don’t think he’s going to magically turn it on but I just I don’t ever want to have that feeling of like how the [ __ ] did I ever discount that guy Like I seems less likely to me that he’ll play four bad rounds in a row Uh I know his scores haven’t been that bad really Just round one was the bad score He shot 7170 the last two days Still if you watch it up close he missed a two foot two and a halfoot putt today He missed a 4 and 1/2t putt today That’s going to happen at US Opens I get it But uh I I I He still seems like he’s steering it off the tea And if he just goes and sends it and has a great driving day tomorrow he can shoot six under I know that doesn’t feel that way right now but he absolutely can shoot six under on this golf So you guys think he needs to shoot six under think the lead is what i think Scotty two under I think like four or go home right like get to even or Yeah Yeah I think get to even hope for a playoff one under maybe a win outright Yeah What what maybe what’s your head and your heart saying uh on Sam Burns what does he shoot tomorrow what And what what’s a good round for him tomorrow even I think he would obviously I think even I I Yeah I just don’t know how he’s not exhausted Not just this week last week he’s in contention you know made every single putt when he needed to up until the playoff and then you know we’re back in the same spot again And I understand vibes are high He has a quote about you know him and Scotty with their kids in the backyard at the rental house running around with wangs out just living life but you know eventually you’re going to get tired Man can I say I don’t think the This is so stupid baby And but like I I don’t think the him staying with Scotty thing is nothing Like truly I think that is a I think that’s Yeah I think it is comfy right like who else would you I don’t know I don’t think Scotty’s just going to be like “Hey man I don’t know Good luck I guess we’ll see what happens.” Like they’re going to keep each other loose like like they said I think that’s I don’t know I I think that’s a good thing What’ you say he had like four essentially like chip out pars today Like I don’t love that being repeatable He’s He’s going to have to drive it a little better It It’s fascinating I I mean we we said what lowry shot 76 Battle shot 80 Like I could like No shade I could see him shooting 74 tomorrow And I think that’s hard And it’s not like that much of a disaster No you’re totally right I think what’s hard about it is like I I could see any of those guys doing that I just don’t see all of those guys doing that True That’s that’s my point with Scotty He is such a ridiculously good putter He has not lost shots in a tournament putting since Phoenix Like that’s quick Like it’s like 10 11 straight tournaments where he gains on the field It’s ridiculous Now his iron play has also been awful this year until these last this just until Memorial and RBC He found something with the iron play Can it go away it can But like dude he just he plays really fearless golf and not at the same time not overly aggressive Uh it just seems like he wants the ball when he does get hot He’s not consistent but the dude does get hot and I’d be surprised if he had a really bad day tomorrow I He’s the favorite by far We can get into some some odds here plays Let’s do that now I think let’s look at the odds What do we He is the favorite like you mentioned This is of course courtesy of our friends at the FanDuel sports book Odds subject to change Sully I can’t stress that enough Of course And they have changed since we started the show They have He is Sam Burns is plus 170 Next up Adam Scott plus 300 JJ Spawn also at three under is plus 350 We’ve got Victor Havland at plus 650 Uh well he is what starting the day three back going off six and a half to one That’s intriguing Yeah And then uh Carlos Ortiz plus 2,000 Tier Hatton plus 2200 If you guys Let’s see it man How about you believe in this scotty I’m not going to rule him out 55 to1 you get him at right now Plus 5,500 Maybe a little sprinkle I don’t know Randy interesting Yeah it might get weird tonight Throw a little Yeah I’ll let you know Yeah you know what I might do is Rasmus Negard Peterson at plus one uh 10,000 Like he couldn’t go shoot 66 and have everybody fall back He’s only at at plus two I don’t know Pretty Tron coded right there I guess that Hoblin is the most interesting maybe 650 Like let me ask you guys this Out of the top four who do you trust the least tomorrow that’s a That’s a really good question God weirdly I I hate that I’m saying this Adam Scott I think it’s Havland Yeah You trust the least Yeah I mean just cuz we I I trust him the most and the least if that makes sense Exactly That’s exactly how I feel Yes I kind of Yeah I know exactly what you’re saying Like last five holes if he if they’re all tied I’d be like “Oh no We’re we’re we’ve done it.” But 18 holes I’m like “I don’t know man Anything could happen Who knows?” Like I I would run back your prediction today Was it you Sully that said he’ll make a triple like this is bad to say but I I of these names I just don’t know if JJ Spawn like has what he needs That’s where I was going man You shoot a 66 in the first round God it’s just a long week Long week I was thinking about this earlier too Like I JJ has gone 667269 and like has not played his his quote unquote bad stretch yet I don’t think I mean you mentioned that with Sam Burns So like playing those last five and six over or whatever he did I mean Victor’s had some some bad golf in there Adam Scott hasn’t really played a bad stretch either I guess if you’re keeping that same logic Round one was a little bit of a roller coaster but uh yeah no I don’t know You could be right It could be just exhaustion for JJ Spawn but I’m I don’t know I’m just impressed at what he’s doing feels pretty boring and sustainable I guess I’m I I didn’t know where I was going to go when we started the segment I I’m going Spawn at plus 350 I think Spawn gets it done tomorrow Yeah I mean that might be the high noon talking at this point but it’s been a long I don’t know man That driving accuracy thing just it just kind of seems like I don’t have the stats in front of me He has to have close to if not the least amount of bogeies in the field He has made he’s made eight total bogeies so far through 54 holes at the US Open And again I know his putting has been really really good but that just doesn’t seem that fluky He just is not putting himself in really tough spots in the it’s not hard to make pars from the fairway on this golf course and he keeps doing it and um I think he I think he gets it done tomorrow I think Spawn’s going to win I can tell you that he does have the fewest bogeies in the field with eight Uh Sam Burns has the next few has only made nine Vic Perez and Adam Scott have all only made nine I do want to bring one name up that we haven’t mentioned yet in the show Sully of course I think I can’t remember if it was Thursday evening or Friday evening was just bashing him Said “Yeah he’s out of here Don’t even think twice about it.” We’re talking a lot about unsustainable and you said you agreed Talking a lot about what Scotty needs This person is starting one stroke better than him Uh we know he’s probably going to shoot 59 next week in either the first or second round at the Travelers but why can’t that be tomorrow for Cameron Young cody your guy is your guy’s doing it You tell us Cody What do you think he’s He’s fifth in strokes game putting this week Would you have taken that that’s unbelievable Think about and today he couldn’t make particularly well today Yeah But his bowl striking was back today You know he looked really really good and just couldn’t get him to fall I’ll do the whole show tomorrow unironically in the pews hat if Cameron Young uh comes and comes back He just h doesn’t he’s not a killer I’m I’m sorry to say it It’s a night I I I’m very excited that he’s playing good golf again and I hope this gets sustained I know the RDER Cup team could use him but uh that would be quite a shock I do want to throw in on FanDuel there’s a uh a profit boost token available for every round if you want to just dabble a little bit on any of these plays Cameron Young plus 12,000 uh as well if you wanted to throw that out there But that’s available that’s been available for every round so far That’s on the FanDuel sports book Cody I thought I thought you were going to say Hatton Have Have we Well I I’m signed up for that show We haven’t But yeah I please get in contention I mean if Hatton goes out and shoots 60 like I’m not saying I think it’s gonna happen but [ __ ] I we probably disrespected him to this point That’s fair Five back I mean I’m sure it’s disrespectful I don’t think he’s going to win but he’s very good Not off the math that we were going off earlier I mean all yes he shoot another 68 and be right there So can I can I throw you some value here this is courtesy of our friends at the FanDuel sports book in the head-to-head two balls JJ Spawn versus Victor Havlin Spawn is plus 120 Interesting 18 holes Heads up value Uh Adam Scott and Sam Burns are both minus 115 going up against each other Who you guys liking that one can I Before we do any more predictions can I just say I’ve never felt less confident in any of the calls for tomorrow like truly Let me find a coin I’ll give you a flip and I’ll tell you Yeah I I think I’m pushing my lot in on Vic I I want to feel something tomorrow I like it I Yeah I think you that that will happen Win lose or draw you’re gonna Exactly I think it’s going to be explosive either way I think What What were those odds on Burns and and Scott minus 115 each or sorry in the headtohead or in the in the headtohead Sorry Adam Scott versus Sam Burns just just round four score is both minus 115 JJ Spawn versus Victor Havland Spawn is plus 120 Havland is minus 165 Uh your guy Carlos Ortiz Sully getting massively uh disrespected in his matchup against Tier Hatton Hatton minus 175 Ortiz plus 130 potential value there Uh oh god how how frisky you guys feeling on this whole anything can happen Nick Taylor versus Scotty Sheffler tomorrow Scotty minus 400 in a in a head-to-head match Nick Taylor plus 270 I think Scotty’s going to win I would also take Nick Taylor at plus 270 18 holes of It’s 18 holes of golf man Guys are the best in the world That’s That’s wild I was trying to see if there’s any other big outliers but I think that’s that’s about it Aaron Ry versus Trevor Conn Randy that’s some sick sick behavior there Yeah betting on that one Minus 250 Aaron Ry heavy favorite over Trevor Don’t call me David Conn He was He was up there sniffing at a point today He was He was Guys I think I might take a little nibble of Hatton I like Why can’t Hatton shoot 69 tomorrow and just find himself maybe in a playoff because we’re good people and we don’t deserve that Randy Like we don’t deserve that to happen That would be my least favorite result in golf if hadn’t won I’ve been over that dude for so long Yeah Uh speaking of being over dudes TC has reported uh on the uh X the everything app that Windham Clark has damaged not one but two lockers in the locker room Um I think it I think when might need to step away from the game for a little bit get things under control Um yeah that’s just not you just like cannot be acting this way That’s not good Uh I believe TC was celebrating that Roy blew up a a T- marker and I don’t know if he So that was a massive positive I believe said on the show last night Might be selective application of of some of this stuff Uh but I listen I’m going to go on a limb and and and say neither of these are playing the game the right way guys Yeah I I agree Uh speaking of Rory any anything you want to say oh speaking of Rory uh just Rory met did meet with the media today Had some I would call peculiar quotes Uh a lot of you know I’ve my problem is more with you guys Uh meaning the media Yeah And then he clarified Yeah I’ll read it quickly into the record Um it was about a fiveminute interview Um some golf stuff and then it was “Hey you’re so transparent for us and very available Yesterday was six major rounds in a row You stepped away Has that been part and parcel to the frustration on the golf course what do you attribute it to?” Rory said “No not really It’s more a frustration with you guys.” Question In what way i’m just Yeah I don’t know I have been totally available for the last few years and I’m not saying maybe not you guys but maybe just the whole thing Question Did it stem from the whole driver thing rory yeah part of it I mean that was a part of it Uh but it’s not as if like I at Augusta I skipped you guys on Thursday so yeah again it’s not as if it’s not out of the ordinary I’ve done it before I’m just doing it a little more often Um question is it part of the you know you kind of carried the tour in your words for three four years Do you feel like you’ve earned the right Rory i feel like I’ve earned the right to do whatever I want to do Yeah Uh last question in relation to that almost addressed uh the fact that tour does not require that kind of thing It’s almost like you’re daring them to do it in some way Is that something you know in terms of a requirement of the player he’s like no I’m not daring them to do anything I hope they don’t change it because it’s a nice luxury to have but I’m just pointing out the fact that we have the ability to do it Massive massive cool man to this one I mean and what did he say about tomorrow didn’t he have something like hope he plays in four and a half hours and and get gets out of there as quickly as possible yeah Uh I think he said that one a little tongue and cheek if you watch the video but I’m I’m with you S I’m kind of firmly in the cool man uh camp right now It it seems like I don’t know seems like he’s just seeking out kind of playing the heel and it it’s a weird fit I guess it’s kind of it doesn’t feel like it comes uh totally naturally I think that’s why we all like him a lot So uh I don’t know Weird weird quotes And what I don’t want to really fall into is just the like Rory like what’s wrong tell us what did we do what’s what’s why are you mad i like I’m just much more in the like all right cool man like what whatever I I truly don’t know what golf media has done to him to deserve this If it’s about the driver thing the PGA be upset about whoever leaked it to the media It’s not the media’s job to like not report something that gets leaked to them It’s a ridiculous application of that scenario And he says “Yeah I’ve earned the right to do whatever I want to do.” Not one person is questioning your right to act like an [ __ ] Like everybody has the right to act like an [ __ ] We also have the right to call you an [ __ ] for doing it Like I just you are in in honor of what happened on Sunday at the US Open in 2016 uh in the NBA Rory’s blowing a 3-1 lead with the fans Like all he had to do was just continue doing what he’s doing He was one of the most popular players And I don’t know what he’s fighting I don’t know what we’re doing here And he’s truly blowing it And it just is extremely unlikable And I can’t explain succinctly why he’s doing this Yeah I I I think the only other thing to add is like I know we have also said a couple times like talk less You’re sharing you know you’re you’re you’re talking too much about and that’s much more about like the tour and the deals and what should happen what shouldn’t happen And I don’t know if that’s just clicking in like way later than it needed to or if something else is sparking this But it it’s just kind of a Yeah it’s just it’s a cool man I keep coming back to the same like Well it’s not just from the PJ championship I mean it goes back further than that Yeah I mean he was getting kind of this way last fall even the end of last summer Yeah I don’t know I don’t know It seems like And saying the heel turn isn’t like I don’t think that’s a very good descriptive of it because now he’s like playing the victim which is even worse Like what are you talking about man like Yeah I know The media rides for you more than anyone else Truly Yeah Truly And uh I don’t know if we could have given you more of a benefit of the doubt over everything for the last several years I feel like he earned it I feel like he earned it Like he was worth right about everything And the reason why I was a big fan and supporter of the things he said and I’ve said this before was like felt like he honestly had the game’s best interest at hand and the fans best interest at hand And now he’s he’s middle fingering fans more than the media Like the whole thing is I done this every night this week But like this is your link to fans This is your speaking to fans And man it just I I think I if I had to guess he’s like so bitter about like Bryson being a fan favorite at the US Open last year after Bryson just being an absolute cho for a decade and Rory seemingly do all the right things and he just like is finally just like [ __ ] it I don’t I don’t know I I honestly can’t explain it This is one of the silliest things I’ve ever had to cover Yeah Well he will not be in the mix tomorrow Uh so let’s talk about the guys who will be What final thing here before we we close it out Uh Randy who’s your pick to win uh Victor Hoblin Sully I saw JJ Spawn in the heat of a moment a few minutes ago I was like I got I think I got to stick with I’d like to return I thought you were going to change No I’m not going to pull a TC here Uh I miss TC tonight He picked Tommy to win and he would have spent the whole night tonight celebrating uh all the uh all all of the correct calls that he somewhat had this week I know I said Sam Burns was going to [ __ ] the bed and that didn’t happen But if you look at what he did on 18 you just can’t hit it in that spot He got lucky that he two Uh I am gonna take H It’s hard It’s really hard It’s so hard The hardest Saturday night I’ve remember having I’m between Sam Burns and Adam Scott and I’m going to take Sam Burns Uh I I think it’s been a while for Adam Scott and that it’s going to be hard not to not to grip the bat a little too tight but I don’t [ __ ] Maybe we get a Mickelson thing tomorrow I don’t know I’m gonna take Sam Burns Sam Burns my final pick Cody who you taking uh off the top Vic Hoblin I can’t wait I hope him and his boys just saddle up again this fall and take that 24-hour road trip back up to Loin with you know the trophy in the back seat just vibing their faces off Come on He’s all filled up on Ohio like you know I know the offcourse stuff God I hope he’s riding the incline tonight having the time of his life Getting deep on UFOs new document releases probably watched the parade earlier on replay Uh I’m trying to find the the the the Sam Burns tracker that’s been in Neil’s ass all week Uh I’m sure I’m sure they had some updates uh today as well That’s been quite irritating That has been a fun The last one I saw was uh see the Shuster brothers tomorrow Well guys anything else uh on the way out here this is a fun one there There’s a lot more to talk about than I thought there was going to be at at 3:00 Eastern time today It’s always No just you know do whatever you got to do to keep the rain away tomorrow That’s what I’m going to be concentrating on Everybody do their part Great thing to invest your energy in Big We can we can we can really turn the tides on that one And Big we got a mega LPGA uh just like six horses chasing tomorrow too Yeah 4. Thriston Lawrence finishes ahead of Burns
    5. Rory doesn’t do media

    Storylines:
    JJ: 1st Filipino-American major winner – would be 🔥

    AS: Could be 17th Masters/USO winner – 1st Aussie

VH: I can only dream of that final putt call by Eurosport Norge's Per & Henrik!

    ✌️🌸⛳

  3. 1. Ben Griffin 63 to win
    2. Rory o75.5
    3. Phillip Barbaree beats Collin for the week
    4. Tyrrell two or more doubles
    5. Sam Burns finishes the last 4 holes +3 to lose by 1.

  4. Another great storyline of Adam Scott winning would be that locks him in for another 5 years of all the majors, which would take his consecutive majors streak well past 100.

  5. The talk calling Rory an asshole seems pretty harsh. He’s not wasting anyone’s time with it, instead of giving Marshawn Lynch answers. He’ll get back to it at some point, but media types are so butt hurt over it right now.

  6. 5 takes for Sunday:
    1. Sam Burns runs away with it and wins by 3+ shots despite a bogey at the last.
    2. Adam Scott ejects with a 75+
    3. Scottie Scheffler loses to Jordan Spieth outright.
    4. Rory McIlroy skips media again.
    5. Cameron Young gets another backdoor podium at a major.

  7. 1. One player tomorrow will threaten to shoot 63, but will fail in grandiose fashion within the last 2 holes
    2. Both Rory and Jordan will make a quad tomorrow
    3. Mic's will pick up Scottie dropping an f bomb
    4. Tom Kim backdoor top 5 with multiple eagles (cornball show)
    5. Adam Scott will start his back nine with a bogey streak, then go on a scoring streak to win by 1

  8. Soly is out of his damn mind calling Adam Scott "by-far the best story to root for of the top guys." How about Hovland that's taken endless shit for "thinking he's smart enough to put the pieces together" (Brandel and KVV) and being the player in the field with the most wins without a major W???

  9. 1. Spaun wins decisively tomorrow
    2. Scottie fades even more
    3. Burns blows up
    4. Hovland makes a push but blows up on a hole killing his chances
    5. Thriston Lawrence finishes t2 or better

  10. Five Takes for Sunday
    1) JJ Spaun to win the golf tournament
    2) First US Open 2 hole playoff
    3) Someone to have a 4 birdie streak (not quite 5, that’s only for TC)
    4) Justin Thomas to be on site and shown by the broadcast
    5) Jordan to have a back door top 10 ruined by one big number

  11. I honestly see a way to lobby for Keegan to be on the team right until DJ or KVV try to explain it themselves and I immediately align back with Soly

  12. Five comments:
    1. Adam Scott shoots 2 over, wins in a playoff over Viktor Hovland and Carlos Ortiz
    2. Rory hints at a retirement, still wins the fedex cup
    3. Cam Young stolen valor back door top 5
    4. Scottie shoots an uncompetitive 72
    5. Keegan shoots under par to just further make that conversation more annoying

  13. Final Round takes:
    1) Rory phyrric surge with-3 on back 9 for a 75, no media but pays for new tee marker on 17
    2) Jason Day asks Malbon for Adam Scott ensemble – clothes in camel/beige/sand/brown/natural as a tribute
    3) NBC apologises twice for language after Tyrell’s surge comes unstuck
    4) crucial 2 shot swing on 17 decides title.
5)Adam Scott wins – able to 3 putt 18 for the victory! 🇦🇺

  14. 1) JJ hits 12 fairways
    2) Scott misses a 4 footer
    3) Victor gets a triple
    4) Burns wins

  15. Laying up is always the prudent and conservative thing to do. It's also the most wise act on a golf course. Instead, attack attack attack with the heart, mind, and putter.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

  16. envelope takes:
    1) hovland outduels burns in a closing battle that makes up for the lack of leaderboard star power
    2) only 3 players beat scheffler for the tournament
    3) speith back door top 10 has everyone excited about his chances at portrush
    4) scott is out of contention by 10
    5) rory cards a quadruple bogey

  17. 1. “A Nick Faldo” 18 pars will win it for Burns
    2. If Ortiz or Hatton don’t win both NLU and Chamblee will blame LIV
    3. If Leishman finishes top 10 it will not get a mention by NLU because it signifies maybe LIV has done his game some good
    4. If Adam Scott wins he should absolutely jump ship to the Rippers and spend 3 months in Australia and play all around the world for a change
    5. If Hovland wins he should absolutely jump ship to the Cleeks and spend 3 months in Norway and play all around the world for a change

  18. Predictions

    1. Sam Burns wins in a playoff
    2. Hatton leads or co-leads at some point on Sunday.
    3. Hovland ejects with a 77
    4. Keegan backdoors a top 10
    5. Adam Scott misses a crucial putt to win

  19. 1. Vik shoots 69 with a double
    2. Jason Day stolen valor Top 10
    3. Russ Henley Top 5
    4. Scheffler hits it great but loses 1.5 strokes on the greens
    5. Adam Scott wins in a playoff with Sam Burns

  20. 1. Playoff to decide winner
    2. Scottie to shoot 69 or lower
    3. Burns to bogey 18
    4. Spaun to shoot 71 or over
    5. Scott to win

  21. 1. Adam Scott wins in a playoff
    2. One of the players in the top 10 will shoot 77 or higher
    3. Hovland is the leader when the final group finishes the front nine
    4. Scottie finishes the week with zero rounds under par
    5. Keegan Bradley shoots 67 to earn some wiki yellow

  22. The narrative of Rahm (and others) playing poorly at Oakmont due to being on LIV is not well founded. Are Ortiz and Hatton playing better due to being on LIV? Morrikawa, JT, Matsuyama, Speith playing poorly because they play PGA? Golf has high variability.

  23. SOLY, This Rory skipping media soapbox is getting really old, really fast. I would consider myself a true golf sicko. I watch week in and week out, watch literally everything NLU, Golfer’s Journal, and Fried Egg. I’m also a major Rory fan, been on the train since 2010. All that to be said; I don’t give a SHIT if a player skips media. I also don’t think a majority of fans do either. THE ONLY people who seem to care are media members who are also fans. Cut the butt hurt inside baseball; it’s TIRESOME.

  24. 1. RNP finishes Top 3
    2. -5 wins the U.S Open
    3. JJ Spaun is leading or co-leading with 9 to play
    4. Hovland ejects. 75+
    5. Hatton at least 2 hot mics and causes apologies in the booth.

  25. I do not believe the "fans" are turning against or at least not "for" Rory with his recent approach to media. I dont agree with the theory of "he should just address the media and it would be over with in 5 minutes" approach. The "fan" gets why he doesnt want to talk. The media has said talk less. It appears its only "talk less" is determined by the media, not the player. Its a tough call, but if he truly has earned some grace from the media that he has "fed" for years, this podcast is being a bit harsh, in my opinion.

  26. 1) Sam Burns holds on to shoot an even par fighting off Victor in a playoff
    2) my man Ben Griffin (followed all day Saturday at Oakmont – best guy on tour) gets into the top 5 with a -3 round on Sunday
    3) Hatton has a one triple bogey on his card tomorrow…

  27. Bermuda Burns winning would be Blowpig/woodland adjacent.. not the most exciting and it’ll take a minute to remember when you do the Sporcle quiz years from now.

  28. 1. Hatton three putts from within 20ft after being in contention and spits in the cup
    2. Burns has to hit a left handed shot at some point
    3. JJ Spaun holes out from over 50yds
    4. Tony Finau pops his ankle out (and back in) again
    5. Hovland wins the US open and mentions ‘UFO’s aiding his lateral thinking approach’ as being instrumental to him unlocking his game in his acceptance speech

  29. Top 5
    1. Spaun wins and Neil says Skattebo 3+ times
    2. Burns drives it all over the map but is constantly crowned
    3. Mad golfer climbs into top 3; snaps putter on 18.
    4. Carlos Ortiz ejects early. People go back to forgetting he exists.
    5. NBC cuts to live shot of Arnold Palmer’s grave.

  30. 1. Burns and Hovy in playoff
    2. Adam Scott finishes outside top 10
    3. Hatton says 2+ swears on camera (slam dunk)
    4. Leishman top 3's
    5. Brooks Cupcakes beats Scheffler

  31. Predictions:
1- Scotty mails it and shoots 75 or worse
2- Adam Scott wins by 2
3-There will be an Ace in the final round
4-Brooks 4 putts at some point
    5-Grillo backdoors a top 5

  32. 5 predictions

    1. Adam Scott wins in a playoff over Sam Burns and Vik

    2. Spaun bogeys the last to miss out on the playoff

    3. Spieth shoots even and only makes 7 pars

    4. Scottie makes an eagle on 17

    5. Carlos Ortiz 78

  33. Predictions :

-Burns wins by 2 with Hovland 2nd
    – Morikawa low round of the day
    – Spaun to shoot 75+

    – Rory to give post round interview and announce his next tournament will be The Open

  34. 1. Viktor Hovland wins the tournament

    2. Burns and Hovland go to a playoff at -2

    3. The PTI ends with a score over 1.0.

    4. Scottie finishes at -1 and misses the playoff by one stroke.

    5. Soly has to deal with more Keagan Bradley as a playing captain on the post-round show after he finishes in the top 15.

  35. 1. Jason Day top 10
    2. Adam Scott finishes the tournament over par
    3. Tyrell Hatton caught dropping f bombs twice on hot mics, but no apology from NBC
    4. Someone makes an eagle during a playing through commercial break
    5. TC claims he picked the winner

  36. Hmmm. No mention of Ortiz, Hatton. Leishman or Big Shot Bob. Must mean TC isn't on the pod tonight.

  37. Lads – go watch your boys at Fried Egg read the copy for the Ecco shoes Ad on their pod last night – I can assure you there will be tears in your eyes. They just won the US open
