hey guys welcome back to Modern Golf hope you’re having a great day and better week today we’re talking about one of our favorite shoe brands by far in the golf space and that’s Painter so we’ve been testing the Matchplay SC the smaller I would say smaller the soft spike version uh of the 87 SC which is the shoe worn by Jason Day and I want to give you our honest opinion of these so if you’re unfamiliar with Painter they’ve been around for a number of years it could be seven eight years already we were one of the first on YouTube to review Painter if you check out our original review we’ve reviewed a number of them um with my our buddy and our colleague Joe who loves to test painter golf shoes we wore these um the original ones walked 18 holes and had no issues very very high quality shoes uh my O1’s I’ve had for a number of years i probably have 60 70 rounds in these still incredibly comfortable shoes and you can see still have a lot of life left them so I want to bring these up to show you kind of how these transition with lifespan but let’s talk about the match plate SC first so let’s talk sizing i think it’s the most important i don’t know why people always ignore the sizing go with your athletic shoe size so if you’re a 9 and 1/2 in Nike go 9 and 1/2 don’t go 10 go don’t go with your street size if you’re a wide they now offer wides um so again go with your standard golf shoe if you’re an Adidas or Nike kind of person price point I believe and I’ll double check i’ll confirm up here $199.99 again you can use our discount code look in uh the description to save an additional money off your painters if this is your first pair or your 300th pair I don’t think you’ll be disappointed so let’s talk about the 87 SC’s little brother the Match Play SC again the soft spike version i’ve worn these indoors outdoors a couple times i tried to keep these as as as new as I could i think they look still pretty good um to kind of show you guys how they look i should have taken pictures before I worn them but anyway so really comfortable golf shoe uh for me they’ve done a couple new things with the shoe which I really like and let’s get into that first the leather material has this supple u and does have a sheen to it this isn’t just my 48 lights uh flashing it does have a little bit of a sheen not where it’s like whoa what what are you doing um looks really good has a 2-year waterproof warranty I believe and I’ll double check and I’ll confirm they still have a comfortable or comfortability warranty as well as and or a blister warranty uh and again I’ll confirm and put that information up as we go i really like these shoes again I’ve worn the O1’s the 04s the O2s i’ve worn them all i really enjoy the soft spike version and I’ll tell you why it’s much more comfortable um if I took the the 87 SC and I compared these to these this is a more comfortable golf shoe uh you feel those plastic and metal spikes at some point in your shoe kind of going back and forth so I like the match play a little better let’s get into the design aspects as we go very clean lines uh not super and you can see not a huge outrigger at all very comfortable golf shoe this is not venting uh for those people who are going to say “Oh that’s venting.” It is not venting uh it’s just graphics they put on here does have the very I wouldn’t say subtle but the very cool looking uh gold painter logo again this is their new Nitro foam i don’t know how long this has been in a shoe again I’ll double check but I know it’s a different foam than what’s in these uh the reason I say this I don’t know if BASF or whoever is making the same boost for Adidas and others feels a lot like the same material my only concern not my only concern the the shelf life of how long the shoe’s going to last again how long does this material have the the bounce back per se and then if you’ve ever worn an Adidas Boo shoe you know that this can turn a little funky color and they’re very difficult to clean i’ve had no issues so far we’ll report back in October November to really see how these have done but again we turn the shoe around heel counter is great uh has a little Achilles pad which I really like these are not difficult to get on i know some shoes that we own uh it’s like you’re sweating by the time you get your shoe on uh not at all the insole is removable it’s green if you haven’t seen pictures of it yet it’s very cool um comfortable again I like painter shoes a lot one of my favorite pairs uh and if you watch it’s one of the most comfortable shoes we wear the back uh the heel cup and heel counter has this very cool little painter logo design love what Painters doing it also if you can tell almost has like this um high shine uh white material here and if you go into I think it’s the game day or whatever the not the match plate whatever the um the game day shoes I don’t put the pictures up they have this material kind of across the shoe in the vamp as well as the heel again we flipped this around this is just um printed this is not vent holes again I just want to tell people because someone had said “Oh they have vent holes throughout it.” It’s not um the lace is here if anyone asks uh they do have little gold tips uh again so they have the gold tips uh same uh on the outside or the inside of the shoe is the outside very comfortable golf shoes so let’s talk about a couple things price point again $1.99 we talked about longevity uh we have tested a number of painters shoes as we mentioned um I want to show you kind of how these will hold up durability wise they’ve hold up incredibly well uh these probably have I would say 50 60 maybe 70 rounds in them from a few years ago they’ve held up incredibly well let’s talk about slip resistant for a second um I have played uh with people who have worn painter i wear painter a good amount um we’re constantly testing so I can’t I’m not really a person who wears one brand all the time but so we’re constantly testing i have seen two slips in probably 200 rounds uh my buddy Joe uh one time we played when it was really wet uh played on soft spikes and had one little slip where his back his right foot slipped out and I had the same reaction or the same thing happened to me maybe two years ago wasn’t last year maybe it was the year before but very comfortable golf shoes again um you get what you pay for with these they’re not the most inexpensive very comfortable uh I’ll put some pictures up of these but I really have enjoyed Painter they come in a few different colorways i think these may come in three colorways if not I know they come in white gray and black or these may just come in white and black again this is just the white colorway very clean looking shoe if you don’t want a shoe with a million logos um this is a great option again one of our favorites by far if you’re looking for a soft spike shoe that you can wear really all year round in tournament play as well as casual play these have done remarkably remarkably well so we will follow up sometime in October November with our best golf shoes of the year i have a feeling Painter will probably sneak on this Bought these after your spiked review. Absolutely love them. Very comfortable, get compliments every time I wear them. Only complaint I have is the toe has creased as I went .5 size bigger than I should have. May not crease the same if I went true fit. Regardless, best spineless shoe I have worn hands down and worth every penny.
