my game plan for the day and there’s previous years uh I knew the stats i mean I had it in interviews where people were like there’s only been one winner who’s gone into the final day out of four or five players um with a four shot lead that have won in cron and the reason for that being is it’s it’s so difficult to play aggressive to certain pins um without risking making bogey basically so my whole philosophy of this day was not to go backwards if someone was going to catch me they were going to catch me by playing great and coming and and you know and moving forward but so yeah I asked Jamie um uh yesterday actually just to bring back some memories of of the day itself and I just remember my warm up being brilliant um going to the first tea I felt great and I I I didn’t feel I felt probably the the calmst I’ve ever been in this sort of situation uh my bad shot during this period of time maybe for two three months was a left shot and I’d never I didn’t hit it left all week uh and I’d been driving it really well um which is really important around there and then this first T-shot felt great uh but you’ll see where it goes um and it kind of put in you know that instant uh sort of doubt into my mind uh straight away where I’m like okay felt good but hit it left uh and it ended up behind a tree so yeah that’s I’m watching it here yeah and then we’re we’re up against the tree and I’m struggling to to get this out onto the fairway um and now we’re thinking right let’s not let’s not make a make an error um and try to tried to limit the damage uh to start with so yeah this wasn’t like the best of starts for me um body language it didn’t come out it obviously didn’t get out into the into the fairway and it was wet and so I knew this was going to be a difficult shot i can’t remember where the flag was there yeah it’s front right but I think I do a good job here and um breathing heavy uh breathing heavy and it’s uh yeah it’s a difficult start um you get you get the t-shirt away is fine and then wet rough we didn’t have wet rough all all week and um this was me musling a pitching wedge out made sure made sure we were over in that right hand side in that in that bowl short left bunker not great tried to get it onto the green missed it right chipping had been good but then again this was completely different um a little bit wet a little bit skidy uh so this is an important up and down to start the day um and I played a lovely one this really kind of settled me down um knew that my short game was going to be half decent all day after that uh and then the second this this now shot was really important for me um to try and get this in the fairway again slightly up the left hand side hadn’t been hitting it left like I say and so I learned a lot from this round where I can probably overexaggerate my my feels um uh in these sort of situations where left is the bad shot i probably obviously move in I know what I do to to hit the left shot but I probably move in the wrong way um I need to exaggerate the opposite to make sure I don’t hit up the left hand side obviously difficult hole second hole if you’re slightly out of position uh to that front pin and then I was very happy to be hitting greens in regulation uh with still a four shot lead I think beef bogeied the first um as well little bit frustrated with the speed uh wanted to get that to the hole give myself chances I hit a really nice shot here uh had to take a little bit off a 9 iron um at that altitude and I just pushed it got lucky with the slow obviously hit a couple left shots early doors but the irons weren’t going left um but taking off a number with the nine iron kind of was a little bit late on it and then we got another chip so to start the round it wasn’t kind of how I’ve been playing all day but I knew you know it was going to be and it wasn’t going to be easy nice easy chip shot up the hill um you know in Cron Seby’s designed these these holes where everything slopes off the edge of the green so if you’re not on uh with your approach play you’re going to be chipping and putting uh my chipping had been really good and uh yeah like I said that first hole that first little skid that I could that I could see in the greens um really helped me there now this was probably the best T-shot of the week for me um I’ve been driving it well down four all day as you see my quick tea pickup and uh yeah I smoked it down there it’s not an easy hole you got to fade it around the trees um and after the first couple T- shots which were left I couldn’t hit it left down there and teed it down a little bit made sure I was uh making sure I hit a little cut and I hit a lovely shot this a really good lob wedge you know um went a little bit further than I expected uh but that’s what you get at altitude downwind and uh downhill sorry and if it’s in the air for too long it goes an extra 5 yards um this is a better speed putt got it past the hole was more aggressive uh but then you’ve also got three footers that you got to come back and make and these are the putts on Sunday that you know you have to make really um to win tournaments so I was pretty happy with the start um gave myself a couple chances wasn’t how I intended on on going but I managed myself well and then hit a really nice T- shot here um down the fifth cutting it around the trees obviously reminded myself of the hole before where I just hit exactly the same T-OT pretty much and got it right down there right in front of the green so yeah I was I was on with the driver and now I felt like um got rid of those left shots and then this wasn’t easy you see that back right flag this is kind of like how I was all day um if that’s day one day two I might take that on but with the with the four shot lead it was kind of like I wasn’t I didn’t want to go back to the pack i wanted to kind of shoot level par as my worst score um this was frustrating though for me this was like bang on line down the hill and I left it short didn’t get it to the hole so um yeah you can see a little bit of frustration there it’s interesting watching back and then talking about it you go okay body language i remember myself feeling good in my head felt fine but I was obviously frustrated with uh with not picking up one there after a couple good T- shots those last two holes um eight iron seven iron off that TE stay short of that bunker um just making sure there that I was it stays short of the bunker and and uh in the fairway give myself a chance to this pin hit a lovely shot into here um little cut gap wedge again this pin you can’t really attack to the right or long uh long brings in out of bounds so you definitely can’t go long and uh misread this putt um always have that putt going left to right and uh yeah I was miles away big hole here obviously I I I I was taking a club there that probably couldn’t get me on the green but it was it was the safest club uh to get me around the green can’t go long on that pin so um actually hit a hybrid there and then left myself this bunker shot up the hill up the green and I played lovely one sort of skiddy up the up the up the green and one bounce two bounce and then this was a huge putt for the day really uh this was to get me back to within five i think be that’s beast coin there so he was going to make birdie um and get to seven and then that was mine to get to 11 to keep the the four shot lead um so that was really big and then this this hole I hit a lovely shot it’s probably my my favorite swing of the day it was right down it um felt like I was in a good position now to you know start scoring and everyone knows to that pin or that green it’s tiny tiny little hole light pockets of area we can hit it to um slight misread hit a good putt could see it in in uh in my face i hit really good putt didn’t obviously didn’t quite read it um beef beef made birdie here i remember yeah he’s back to eight under there and now within three um it didn’t hit the pitch mark Matt don’t worry about that uh ninth hole uh par five up the hill uh really important to hit the fairway bunker left and trees right uh with rough where you can’t reach and I smoked it yeah hit a lovely shot and this is probably the moment where I felt I could control the tournament um and this shot here and as we know today my bad misses are left uh when I move poorly under pressure I have a left shot in me so this was the shot I look back on where if I could have done it differently um it would have probably been this shot um to make sure uh we weren’t in that left side and you miss it here you you’re in trouble so I was chipping this all the way to the other side of the green to try and take bogey out well I wasn’t going to make birdie from there but try and save a par uh and take the big number out so chipping it long and then I chipped down got lucky i got hit actually had the sprinklers around i was standing on a sprinkler and obviously able to get it out into the semi- rough hit a nice chip but it’s such a big slope there down slope um that it went too far and went past left myself the uphill this putt now is the one I look back on uh even today uh at the tempo the the strike the the read the way my body language is um that was a huge putt to to stay stay clear i’d have taken a four shot lead definitely with nine holes to go um and I felt good you know I was playing well i was hitting good shots um and if I could eliminate those those left shots and and maybe hold a couple more putts nice iron shot down there and as you can see there’s a bit of fog and mist coming in um which we’ll have to deal with in a couple holes um uh second shot into 10 187 this is an eight iron back right flag it’s a new green um on this hole and I’ve just hit it into the fat part of the green nice swing really good consistent shot uh but this this hole is where it gets a little bit spicy because I hit a really nice putt here good speed can’t believe it didn’t break as much as um what I thought it would do but you know it was a good putt u this is where Beef made that long putt so it’s back to three now um which is uh yeah it’s going he hold a long putt there and when I guess the chasing pack they’re just they’re just going for it they’ve got no they they can be really aggressive and see Garcia Heredius there still four behind really nice seven iron into this green uh 11th hole um this was more of a pin that you could be more aggressive because there wasn’t much around it you obviously can’t miss it short left because it runs way um and this was a really quick putt um it was so quick I tried to keep it just on the high side and to be fair it’s not the best part of the green uh I’m hoping to to just drop dripping in on the side and I’m probably talking to myself going just just make one and make it a little bit easier for myself um but like I say watching myself back is it’s interesting to watch my body language i’ I’d hope my body language is a little bit more positive um so I try and take that into consideration so this 12th hole I believe we had a a pretty long wait on this hole um because of the fog 30 minutes I’d say um we were just waiting around just chatting uh not much not much chat obviously between um us about the score is more about other things uh but we waited there it must have been 30 minutes on that tee before hitting this T- shot which is really difficult uh around the corner and we were we were stuck in position for 30 minutes so there wasn’t like we could go and hit any balls on the range even though we’re the range is right next to us on the right hand side there um so we had to just stay in position so I was just staying warm uh doing stretches and and and so on um but then I’m in I’m in the rough here on the down slope this is really difficult lob wedge out of the rough can’t be short anything short is in that water anything long is difficult so this was a really safe solid shot if it got over that ridge there it might go a little bit closer garcia Heretta hit a lovely shot in there quite tight you can see and um yeah this is this is kind of the start of th those guys trying to like catching up hit a great putt here really good speed um was hoping for one of these longer ones to drop in but really good putt kept it on the high side um and then through to the par 313 over water um not much wind today uh cuz that that you can see the fog and mist staying around but this is a really solid shot that’s exactly where I was aiming not bringing in short or anything like that um trying to give myself chances but when you’re putting for from 25 30 ft most of the day it’s difficult and obviously hit that low that putt and didn’t keep it high and it’s gone past and these are the things you don’t want to do to give yourself these sort of stressy moments but as I said you have to hold these putts if you’re going to win and uh hit a lovely putt and took a little bit of momentum from that um onto into this hole and again trying to hit that fade that I’ve been hitting the good shots on and it didn’t fade down this hill and this will be up that left hand side and actually ends up under that tree um yeah which is a bit spicy and I’m walking down and just give hopefully give me a shot you can go left you can go down the next hole but I was able to get in there and managed to find a way back to the fairway here uh this was this is a little bit you know dicey i was confident I could get it out but you never know it could hit something and then hit a tree and then stay around but I managed to get this out down the fairway and give myself another chance actually I think it went out into the semi- rough and um yeah can’t go right that right pin um even though I’ve only got a sandwich into this green uh but yeah I hit a nice shot that slopes back towards the pin again solid shots and I’m giving myself chances you know but not really the chances the simple chances where if I hit that fairway you hit it onto the green and two putt for birdie um whereas these guys behind are making birdies and Garcia Heredia had a really good eagle look at that as well and he’d made birdies so he’s now only two behind and I’ve got another three-footer here you know to keep it going but I was rolling it great i was hitting really good putts um so yeah I think at this moment now I’m I’m kind of I’m fine i’m still okay i’m still in control of the tournament i’m doing what I’ve set out to do which is not go back uh to the pack but this hole is a really important hole uh another par five so the most important thing is on on the on these types of holes I need to be getting the ball in play and uh giving myself a chance to make a hit the fairway and make a birdie from more simple birdies cuz I’ve seen don’t seem to be making birdies the harder way um but I hit a really good T-shot it was probably one of the better T- shots of the day up the hill flushed it up there and then we’ve got a long iron into this green um yeah nice tempo i think that was a forearm um draw obviously up that slight up slope ended up in a pretty gnarly lie up against the collar there but really nice like I was we were short of the pin perfect leave chipping had been good couldn’t believe it went right to left more up the slope that um than anything cuz everything’s going more towards the the front of the green but I played a really nice shot and um then I then I put the pre this was the first real time I put the pressure on the other two guys and Beef made a long one uh he made like a 18 footer obviously to get to 10 and Garcia Hereda made a made a bird early as well um but that was huge for me to stay too clear now the last three holes I hit a really solid shot here and I was talking to it i’m saying like grab a piece of that left hand side of the green cuz it runs off and uh I’ve kind of shortsided myself there and it’s run down and it’s run into a tiny little compression mark so I couldn’t really chip it up there and so I puted it but I hadn’t puted really through the through the green and with it being a bit wet is obviously the moisture had to hit it a lot harder so um I’d like to have chipped that but obviously couldn’t and and then putting it and then this was a big breaking putt i tried to keep it on the high side and hit a good putt but not high enough and now now this is where it gets spicy you know bring making a making a bogey and and going back towards the pack and we’ve only got a one shot lead uh with two to play so but Jamie was brilliant here um using his experience um at this moment you know he said he said four swings and so that kind of made me focus more on the future rather than what’s happened behind i was just thinking about right four good swings coming up um tough holes obviously you can’t can’t just go out there and and and birdie them so they they had they still had to catch me and he was telling me we’re in the lead here we’re doing our job we’re still you know we’re not over par so that we were still in a decent head space even though I’ve gone from a four-sh shot lead now to a one shot lead with two to play um so deep down I was I was fine but kind of like more more slightly more um not nervous but slightly more like understanding of the situation where okay this might it might not be my day but my full focus was on these four swings so um I had a really good good shot here which you know I’m now down to three swings rather than thinking about anything else and hit a really good long iron there flushed that one so that gave me a lot of confidence um Jamie just chatting away to me and he knows the script and yeah actually can’t remember what I hit in here but I felt like I hit something relatively smooth and I was looking to try and draw it into that back flag and I hit a really good shot um can’t go long to that pin so pretty happy to be closest there so I could see what the what was going on and I remember beef hit a lovely putt up the hill but went right to left and then left to right you can see it go left to right at the end and he missed it to the right and it looked like it was going in so I went a little bit lower and it just broke a bit more so I knew over that part I knew if I hold it I felt like the tournament was done so I the rise smile I knew okay the tournament’s not done we’re still going but I kind of I thought that was the winning moment putt and I just obviously just underreit this the first bit the double breaker so coming myself down I’m saying right last hole I know what I need to do and it’s uh a tough shot three-wood um so this again this shot in is like that pin over on the right hand side you can just see it on the right hand side is it’s basically in the water so I can’t do much about taking it on i I I hit it towards this TV tower trying to fade it in a little bit and Garcia Heredas obviously attacked it and hit a great shot and again I’ve got 25 ft to win the tournament 30 ft to win the tournament which is kind of all I could do and I thought you know it’s a great opportunity i can make this and uh I hit a nice putt but then now I know I can be caught so I did my job i didn’t shoot over par i was happy with my performance i like holding putts to win a tournament and I didn’t do that but there’s a there’s an interesting story with this and Garcia already makes the putt right so beef played really nice was a just one short and then Garcia ready makes the putt brilliant there’s a story about what happened between the 18th green and going to tea uh in the playoff where a couple years before I’d lost in a playoff with Tristan Lawrence and I’d done what Alfredo had done that day which was be four shots behind and catch up with the leader and I was in that situation i played great that day and I found myself in a playoff and the different and I I go on to actually lose that playoff but I went into that playoff back then like quite bouncy and and buzzing about myself you know uh that I’m in a playoff and I I’ I’d say there was a lack of focus and intensity a little bit where it was like I didn’t expect to be in a playoff and I found myself there and ultimately I I didn’t hit a great sec I hit a good T- shot and not a great second shot and I lost the playoff whereas here I executed what I wanted to do which was not shoot over par i walked off the green and I’m not upset and I’m not frustrated i’m very much understanding of the situation and focused that now I’ve got freedom to go and play sort of thing so um I don’t know how Alfredo was feeling in that situation whether he was quite happy to be in in in a playoff which I’m guessing he would be whereas I was like “Okay now this is my now this is my job now is to go and show you know how I’ve been playing all week um and I have bit more freedom.” So flush three were down there and had a very similar number in but a slightly different angle than uh than the original um and I played second alfredo played first uh he hit a lovely T-shot here he played first i was slightly longer and he didn’t put the pressure on he didn’t hit the same type of shot that he did in in um in regular play which maybe is the difference you know maybe he had to play a little bit safer here and leave it up to me rather than he has to make birdie um so he’s hit this i’ve just looking in my book where am I going to pitch this and not seeing where he’s going and he’s hit it just up the the safe side up the left hand side which I mean still a great shot you’re 20 ft away into that pin can’t be anything right of it um but I’ve hit a I’ve hit probably one of the best lob wedges of my life here um up the left hand side ball below my feet a little bit just a really solid lob wedge little cut into that pin and uh I mine it up and down because I know it’s good i’ve hit it great just left of the pin and then it spun back and left it in a can’t have been a better situation and I think you can see in my just in my my eyes and my facial how I’m way more aggressive and attacking than the other way um but I I stuck to my game plan that my game plan was working so this I could be way more aggressive um and I left myself the perfect putt you if you leave yourself an uphill putt on 18 you you’ve either missed it or you’ve hit an amazing shot so uh Alfredo I know this putt goes right to left so as soon as he put it out the left hand side um I knew it was going to miss and I just took my time over this putt i knew I knew what it meant i knew that I could execute it was a slight double breaker it was right to left and then left to right up the hill uh I knew from the the other side it goes right to left so I knew it’d come back and um yeah the reaction kind of says it all yeah that was that was that reaction still gives me like chills now i did it the hard way but I did it the way that I kind of set out the start of the day i didn’t want to didn’t want to go back to Chasing Pack i’m glad I got the job done because it was it’s a difficult place to win and the stats don’t lie there’s only there’s only been now two players out of six I think that have won with a four shot lead so it’s a difficult place to win with a with a big big lead um and yeah the emotions came out cuz I’d not been in a great spot for for maybe three 3 months before that and some some hard work with my team with Jamie Graham my manager Matt Belcham my swim coach Mike Cansky cutting coach Topham Boys uh stats guy who funny enough has always told me cron is one of my like favorite courses that for me to play even though 3 years ago four years ago I didn’t think that was the case um but as soon as he told me that I’d I I looked at that and I came second and then I’d won it this year so Kron is a very special place and I’m uh very grateful to be um the Omega Masters Champion to watch another DP World Tour video click here and to
