CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Padraig Harrington is making his first appearance at Firestone on the PGA Champions Tour.
Harrington made 14 appearances at Firestone Country Club between 1999 and 2015 while he was on the PGA Tour. Most notably, he finished as co-runner-up in 2009, tied with Robert Allenby, after losing a three-shot lead to Tiger Woods.
Harrington had the advantage for most of the final round at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but the 16th hole was a turning point.
Harrington had a misstep on the 16th, which led to a triple bogey and opened the door for Tiger to win his seventh victory at Firestone and 16th World Golf Championship.
Ahead of the Kaulig Companies Championship, which gets underway on Thursday, June 19, Harrington reflected on that weekend in 2009 and why he regrets not winning at Firestone.
