one of the big questions coming out of this is what has happened to Rory Mroy i mean in one breath he he wins the Masters and that’s great and that’s a full set and I spoke to Gary Player about that last week about what it means to Rory having done that player did that himself of course as a golfer but what has happened to Rory various questions coming out of this tournament regards his demeanor the way he dealt with the media um he had a tournament saving final round of course when he broke par but couldn’t wait to get out of there and has got out of there he has struggled over the weekend and he spoke about that on Saturday it’s much easier being on the cutline when you don’t really care if you’re here for the weekend or not um you know I was sort of thinking do I really want two more days here or not um so it makes it easier to play better when when you’re in that mindset yeah I alluded to it in my you know pre-ournament press conference um you don’t really know how it’s going to affect you you don’t know you know how you’re going to react to such a you know I wouldn’t say a lifealtering occasion but at least something that I’ve dreamt about for a long time um and yeah you know I’ve alluded to the fact that yeah I have I have felt a little flat on the golf course afterwards you wonder how he could feel flat in the golf course after recent weeks and months um the way he’s been playing talk Sports Golf correspondent Rupert Bell joins us live on the show this morning with Simon Martin and myself rupert good morning when when you heard Rory making the noises he made there on Saturday did you begin to think what’s going on with them now uh he actually alluded another interview that he gave or talked about it that it was his climbing Mount Everest moment and actually what you do after that and that’s what he struggled with and so he’s he’d worked so hard and it’d been such a mental hurdle for him to get over to win the Masters and he’s put himself above the parapit when talking to the media and I think he’s just gone into his shell thinking well is it all is it all that if you know what I mean suddenly I’ve done it but now what do I do i’m 36 where’s my next challenge and I think that’s what he’s found difficult to deal with um and yes his reactions on Saturday when he was bashing up te markers and throwing his club is is unedifying from such a talented golfer but he did card one of the rounds of the day yesterday and he did allude to the fact that maybe coming to uh uh Ireland and Port Rush is going to be his next Everest because he’s got scar tissue from when they had the open in 2019 when he hit his first T-shot the expectations of a nation on his shoulders and he hooks his T-shot out of bounds and from there on in it was always a struggle to make the cut he nearly did it but that might just be the motivation that gets him back on track he’s going to play this week at the Travelers Championship he says he’s going to take a couple of weeks off where he’ll be back in the UK maybe in Northern Ireland just to get mentally back in the zone but I do think look we’ve got Martin you would know people when you achieve a goal what do you do or how do you kick on and that is one of the problems and well Martin you as a football manager would have had to tell people right we’ve gone and won something but where do we go from here is that right what a good point well it’s an interesting point because I think that um I was listening la last night to some of the uh Irish journalists who who have been speaking to Rory and they also mentioned the fact that Ian Wisn although Ian Wisn did not won every single major but he won the masters and after that and he was number one in the world and after the masters he found it really difficult to concentrate again i think that I think that uh am I surprised a little bit about Rory Mroy uh uh finding this a bit of a problem yeah I in the short term I think in the longer term I think he’ll be absolutely fine if you consider that Adam Scott is I think 44 years of age and he was contesting and a very bad round last night but he was contesting right there you know the three rounds so Rory Mroyy’s 36 there are there more majors in him absolutely i think he was just river I think it’s the whole thing that’s got to him just recently about the driver it was um his name was mentioned Scotty Sheffller’s name wasn’t mentioned all those things then I think sometimes the American press you know just been goating him a little bit and he and I think he feels as if he was a he’s a bit of a scapegoat whether that’s true or not I don’t I’m not sure what we know is Rupert and I I was quite surprised when I heard the the the next quote that followed because he he spoke about when he feels obliged and when he feels maybe disobliged to speak to the media and then I really tuned in this was Rory it’s more a frustration with you guys but yeah what I’m just um yeah I don’t know i mean I have I’ve been totally available um for the last few years and I’m not saying maybe not you guys but maybe more just the the whole the whole thing the whole driver thing yeah part of Yeah I mean that was that was a part of it um yeah that was that was that was a part of it um but it’s not as if like at Augusta I skipped you guys uh on Thursday so um yeah again it’s not as if it’s it’s not out of the ordinary i’ve I’ve done it before uh I’m just doing it a little more often is it part of the uh you kind of carried the tour boards for three or four years now you feel like you’ve earned a break i feel like I’ve earned the right to do whatever I want to do i feel like I’ve earned the right to do whatever I want to do what did you think when you heard that Rupert um well to some extent he has earned a right to do what he do but obligation um well you know Tiger Woods always managed to most of the time front up look I think it’s difficult i think he feels now and I think this is all part of the mindset what I’ve done everything I want and I’m a bit I’m almost tired of it do you know there’s a mental tiredness from the strain that he’s put himself under remember last year there was you know not that this is an impact and can we read into it but the one minute his marriage was on it was and then it was back on again there have been a lot going on so I just think he’s hit the buffers you know mentally has hit the buffers and you know it is he always is very normally very gracious with his time and has been and never is frightened even on a bad day to sort of front up and stay stuff but the driver thing probably compounded the problem but hopefully he will be back and he can add to his list of majors and if he can win in Ireland then know Everest will be have been climbed again i’m just thinking bear with me if if that was a moment Simon that a top footballer said that no I think I’ve earned the right to do football but what a sad entitled world we live in this is a guy that’s just achieved a wonderful set of achievements and the next thing we’re doing is crit is is criticizing him for the manner in which he performs in a next big tournament or suggesting that the media has a right to when he speaks to him when he doesn’t he’s absolutely on the money he’s on the money he He has earned the right to speak to people when he chooses to he’s earned the right to take the consequences of that attitude as well if the media want to go after him which they often do when they don’t get what they want and he’s earned the right to have a moment where he pairs back his game and what rather than celebrate this kid for what he’s done which is overcome the biggest monkey on his shoulder we’re now judging him by a standard of the expectations that he might not have of himself and he’s an individual it’s a different question asking Martin O’Neal what he does with a group of collective individuals inside a dressing room to get them to go again when you’ve got selfarters in there he is the self-starter he is the individual he doesn’t have someone else alongside him to make sure that he ultimately is held to a set of standards he holds himself to that standards so I think it’s a rather miserable little analysis of Rory Makoy that we’re attempting to do here but Rupert when when you heard that though should he not be above anything should he not be like “Right rain or shine I’m going to speak.” Well look tennis players uh are obliged at major tournaments if requested uh to speak and often after um matches and Shane Lowry alluded to it and said “Look once you’ve if you’ve had a bad round you’ve got everything going through your head.” And I think it was at a recent tournament that Shane Lowry turned around and said “Look I’m not going to talk because you’re just going to ask me about Rory.” And he was in a sort of in a fuming he was fuming about it wasn’t he so you know I do think that it’s it’s a balancing act i think we maybe we should be in a position to say right I’m just going to take 30 minutes time out let let the air out of the balloon and then I’ll come back and talk but I do think for Rory there is a sense that he has done a lot for the game he has been you know he was um very forthright in his views when Liv came on and now that sort of has changed he’s evolved with his views but he’s fully entitled to it has the game done a lot for him ripper well squillians it’s done for him right from you know he’s he has been look we’re talking about him we’re not actually talking about Jave and his brilliance nobody gave him anything he took what what what he got from the game was based entirely upon his talent and if he wasn’t talented the game would have done bugger all for him yeah absolutely his talent from the moment we saw him hitting a ball into a dish into a washing machine we knew he was a a kid different and from the moment he burst onto the scene or there was a level of expectation just like Tiger Woods that he would achieve and he’s won millions but let’s just now let’s give him time to breathe over the next three weeks the focus will be on him at Port Rush once again everyone will want a piece of him hopefully he will come up at Port Rush in the middle of July feeling I’m energized again and I’m going to give put on a show for my home fans thank you very much indeed we’ll be lucky jim White and Simon Jordan monday to Friday mornings from 10 on A.M on DAB via the Talk Sport app and on your smart speaker talk Sport

ramp it up you worm that is Jim full of shite journalist
I cannot stand Rory Macilroys plastic American accent. Just gets my back up every time.
This is the same Rory Mcilroy that loves the media attention when he's spouting off about LIV Golf. An unlikeable character
Propaganda. Golf media are notoriously soft on Rory, especially for 2 years there where he said horrendous things about LIV golf and Saudi Arabia all while sitting there being paid hundreds of millions by Nike to wear their clothes made by Chinese slave and child labour. Sanctimonious hypocrite basically sums up Rory in 2 words. Also he was recently caught cheating by using an illegal driver which he used to win the Masters, Rory then complained about this news being leaked because he believed it was covered up lol….if that was Patrick Reed who did that to win the Masters, the golf media would be going mental and calling for his green jacket to be taken back, but Rory gets a pass as usual.
a f**kin soft tw*t….a brat……all walks of life….eg..im a Liverpool fan, most of my friends Man-United….years of taking stick, i approach a couple of 'em say 2 years ago…..""i dont follow football anymore""…….(are you f**kin kidding)……maybe he will come out, talk again to the media and fans……while doin"-so, step out closet……🤔😁🤔
Woudl woods, Jack, serial winners and killers would behave and think like this NOOOOO weak mentality IMOP 😊
He’s mentally shot.. his form was through roof around the masters, a drop was inevitable.
Rory defenders NEVER defend any other golfer for being human. You cannot defend a sore winner. Putting yourself out there as the face of golf is asking for the attention literally.
Rory has always been a cry baby…. whats new
Well said Simon 👏
I don’t think Rory is a likeable person tbh, seems like the other players don’t think much of him
Spot on Simon
Can I ask….. what is Rupert Bell's handicap.!?
What qualifies him to be a Golf Correspond.!?
He’s horrible gutted he won the masters
I find Rory frustrating at times but even though he hadn’t won a major for a while he was still winning big tournaments, The Players, FedEx, Race to Dubai. Simon is bang on, give him a break.
Rory is a horrible horrible troglodyte. Cant stand him.
kINEL, he's playing the Ronnie O Sullivan card. It's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fair but I don't care, blah blah blah…
Good for Rory. Sometimes your up sometimes your down. He will be back.
It's the same as tyson fury beating klitchko, when you have achieved everything you ever wanted to achieve, what motivates you?
Looked like Jim wanted some anti-Rory rhetoric but the reality is he is allowed some breathing room after achieving a career goal- how do you think Harry Kane would fare playing in an FA cup 2 weeks after winning a World Cup. My guess is he’d be pretty ordinary. Football players regularly fail to turn up for games and don’t get anything like the shade being thrown at Rory. He’s a generational talent and because he’s not American they are always looking for a bad news story. Enough!
He won the masters leave him alone.
People with teeth, people with false teeth.
Jim's fuming that he couldn't incite the pile on.
Jim White acting like he's owed something from Rory – typical blinker, exactly why Rory has said what he said.
SJ. spot on!
Simon is absolutely spot on.
He was caught out as a cheat by playing with an illegal driver. Once caught out his game was done. All the excuses made about him is sick.
It shows u the mindset of tiger woods, what he’s went through with the media probably 100x what Rory has went through
When tiger won the grand slam, he pressed right on and won the next major, and the next one! Rory has just been incredibly petulant and shown why he should NEVER be spoken about in the same breath as tiger or Jack. Serial winners who never used winning as an excuse to not win again!!!
You gotta love all the nobodies who have never achieved anything in the sporting world coming on and telling the best golfer of this generation how he should act 😂😂
Gossip.
Spot on take by Simon, well said. There has been too much soapbox stuff from media and podcasts on this topic, no golf fan cares.
I agree with and understand Rory 💯 %.
This is shocking
What is the accent of the broadcaster? Genuinely asking
The media always wants a big story, and if there isn't one, they'll try and make one. Listen, everyone has ups and downs. It's all part of the game.
