[Music] nbc Sports and the NCAA proudly present the 2025 Division 1 Women’s NCAA Championships presented by AT&T and Stifel we’re coming to you from the Omni Resort and Spa in Carl’sbad California we’re not too far from the Pacific Ocean on this picture perfect Monday about 30 miles north of San Diego it is ideal here in the Golden State and there’s going to be a national champ an individual champ crowned on this Monday at Omni Lacasta Resort and Spa the North Course originally designed in 1965 by Dick Wilson renovated by Gil Hans and Jim Wagner right before last year’s championship and it is in spectacular shape playing to a par of 72 for the women measuring just over 6,300 yds temperatures in the mid70s just the gentlest of breezes coming out of the west the race for the eight who will make it to match play beginning on Tuesday morning and again that coveted national championship an individual will leave here knowing they were the very best this week so glad you could join us steve Bowski Karen Stpples Jim Gallagher Jr with you amelia Duran Julia Johnson on the course for us brenley Roine with some news and notes on the players and we pick up Maria Jose Marine set to go here at 10 downhill par five players can really get a good bit of run out right now in the afternoon fairway starting to firm up we did have a bit of rain earlier on in the week take a couple seconds maria Jose Marine a sophomore at Arkansas the SEC player of the year has already won twice looking to make it a third time this season as we head over to Lebanon and say hello to Jim hello Parker cindy Co here at the 11th very getable location oh I didn’t think she’s going to do that how about that i was going to say I said it was get off i thought she’d use the back stop bring it back in no we’re just going to dunk it why not that’ll help USC bounce back after that bogey 10 as well Jim yeah a couple three bogeies on the par fives but watch this one right here burku nothing but net seth Curry would be proud of that one you can alleviate a little stress with shots like this what this day is all about we go back to the tea at the tenth catherine Park the USC junior set to go and Amelia’s down there watching this is headed down that left side want to make sure you take advantage of these par fives see a number of players not using driver on these holes all the trouble on this golf course for the women come into play at about 240 to 260 off the tea kelly Sue now her second shot here at seven location back a little bit of a bullet it’s downwind today you got a there’s a spine that res right through the middle she’s currently at nine under par tough to get it close here only a couple birdies and that’s going to be a popular spot right there won’t get down into that valley but just for birdie par is a good score here on this one let’s go back to the third member of this group at the 10th mirabel Ting the Florida State Junior got to make sure you stay left of that right bunker aggressive play there by Mirabel with the driver someone playing with a lot of confidence and why wouldn’t she five wins on the season for Mirabel Ting so glad you could join us Steve Burkowski alongside another Florida State seminal a major champ karen Stpples was an all-America selection during your time in Tallahassee this is the culmination of all the hard work and practice that started in August and September and what is a very grueling and long week for these women what are some of the challenges they face mentally and physically as they all want to keep playing until Wednesday well it’s knowing what’s on the line i mean you’ve got the national championship you’re playing for your teammates you’re playing for the honor of the school and uh and every and it really comes down to this for some players this is their last time they’re going to play in their college uniforms so there’s a lot of emotion for these players coming coming into play and I think that’s really on display here today yeah 156 student athletes started the week here in Carl’sbad California as we take a look at the tournament format presented by Titleist the stroke play got going on Friday and after 54 holes the cup was made from 30 teams to 15 for today’s final round of stroke play and nine individuals on those nonadvancing teams moving on the individual champ going to be crowned at day’s end the top eight teams they’ll move on to match play as well just another part of the dynamic quarterfinals and semi-finals set for Tuesday and then that championship match on Wednesday to crown the winner of the 2024 2025 season so we saw Maria Jose Marine get off to the quick start three under on her opening nine has a bit of breathing room which one of maybe the chasers do you believe could get this really close because they’re stacked there on that first page i mean it’s going to be hard for them to catch her i mean we’ve just seen her make a long putt she’s a player that plays with a lot of confidence um looking at her yesterday I was out watching a bit of her golf she was taking on some hole locations and some flags that other players really didn’t have in their bag she’s able to generate some spin this golf course is a little bit softer this year so she feels like she can really play aggressive golf she’s riding a huge amount of confidence it’s going to be hard for somebody to make up any kind of ground on her but Mirabel Ting she needs to get off to a big start we saw her be aggressive with that driver down the par five she’s going to have to take advantage soon cuz holes are running out maria Jose Marine at 12 under the three shot lead over Kelly Sue from Stamford another Cardinal Apolla Martine San Pedro right there but there’s Mirabel Ting there’s Lahi W we’ve seen stranger things happen it’s not easy to close out an individual national championship and then from the individuals to the team component this is a whole another layer we’re going to keep an eye on i think we can comfortably say Stanford they’re going to move on to match play leading by 23 but go down to 6 7 8 9 10 that is the critical number that we will follow over the course of the next few hours right now South Carolina on that eighth and final spot three clear of Arizona State but if you’re watching college golf for the first time bear in mind five players go out four scores count to make up four six eight shots isn’t as difficult as you might think it is not one bit all it takes is for one player to have a birdie another player to have a double bogey next thing you know that’s three shots different and it can happen in a flash kelly Sue now with the nice shot here gets a little putt down the hill it’s been misread by a couple groups today it falls left just at the end but it’s all about the speed on this one couple under on today nine total birdies at one and two got off to that hot start so this be a big one like I said only two birdies on this hole today toughest hole on the golf course today little bit of wind it wasn’t much early but then it’s kind of picked up as the players players teams that got off early might have got a few holes in before the wind internet’s going to hang out to the left as well stressfree par that’s what you want this is by far the nicest weather that these players have seen all week correct as you mentioned there was some little bit of rain there the one day and and cool temperatures but it’s warmed up and the golf course is immaculate it’s grown in nicely last year was the first year and it’s just so so pretty to look out in the greens are perfect we say that a lot but they really are and I think that’s one of the things we were curious about correct Jim 12 months later and this place is looking as good as one could ever expect as we head over to 10 Mirabbel Ting her second mirabbel is in perfect position just 200 yds into this flag you want to be on that right side lot of green to work with over there two interesting plays from Katherine Park and Maria Jose Marine park is in the right bunker it’s going to be about a 30- yd bunker shot and Marine laid up in the rough so a good one there by Mirabel Tang just short and right she’s seven back can she make a back nine charge we’ll find out as this day continues we’re back at the par five 10th maria Jose Marine leads by three and getting ready for her third and didn’t realize how much roll out there would be in this fairway was not planning on being in this rough front hole location might just be 70 yards but it’s going to be very hard to stop it yeah it looked like there was a little bit of grass behind the ball there too which adds to what Emilia was saying about not being able to stop it that’s what I was seeing as well have to land the short of the green if you want it close yep [Music] just a fraction off and next thing you know you’ve got 35 ft for birdie head at the 11th lotty Wood on the te off to a hot start 34 of the first six but made double bokei at seven 260s drivable today we’ve seen an eagle already that first shot we showed playing a little bit into the wind today yeah that’s going to be an awkward shot from over there that’s a big slope bunker between her going to be tough to get it close down to seventh pedro now her second shot beautiful drive down here just a 118 yds left this one’s hanging out on the right just did not clip that well at all that’ll leave a pretty long chip there yeah came up as you said short there’s a spine that runs through it’s just there’s only two birdies toughest all on the golf course but that was a mishit so a little bit of work left to make par very little has gone wrong with Stamford this week out of their first day yeah a lot of breathing room for the Cardinal right now at 29 under par 24 clear of Northwestern back over at 10 Mirabel Ting her third just short of the green and Ting getting rewarded after hitting an aggressive T-shot going with driver this is a chip that could almost go in put that ball back in your stance pump it through the fringe gave it a run as she has done much of this year the junior for FSU from Malaysia five wins on the season has finished in the top six in eight of her nine stroke play events i mean that’s just an insane run of form that she’s found herself in all right third shot for Lauren Win here at seven she found the bunker off the tee on the right got really aggressive from 174 yards left herself what I think is the hardest shot in golf that little mid-range wedge out of a bunker and that’s a long look there for her four yeah it’s just tough to get that close made the mistake there but got it on the green really easy to hit that heavy and come up way short and bring double into play so it’s just a tough two putt yeah and Lauren the leader of that Northwestern team a senior from Seattle one in so far in her final year in Evston six top 10s and you look at the rest of that lineup couple of freshman a sophomore and a junior so heads up or tip of the cap at least Emily Fletcher and her team as we watch Lahi W at 11 yeah this is her third and we saw the T- shot left really hit a pretty good shot to get it to ear care and that’s the problem if you do shortside yourself uh she was back into the wind but she hit the proper shot here i think I think she’s a player that does like to play aggressively and for the most part this golf course takes that aggressive nature away from some of the longer players so they feel like they they have to play so cautiously so it probably felt good to her to pull the driver out and give this one a go but she’s got a lot of work still to do she have been the reads have been a little bit different for her this week not been reading it as she normally does and back to the green at 10 maria Jose Marine for birdie looking to extend her lead to four marine made a great par save on eight using that momentum led to a birdie on nine which was a 25-footer when Marine gets going in this range she can make everything that’s on the green little double breaker here we’ll slide right at the end steady solid all week long for Maria Jose Marine all right San Pedro’s third here at seven really difficult chip here everything wants to work right going away from this whole location this one’s hanging out a little right yeah it could have been a little more aggressive but that’s about 15 feet for par now no stress though all right let’s go back to the green at 10 usc’s Catherine Park the junior’s got this for birdie park was inches away on both eight and nine for making birdie just caught the edge both times got a pretty good idea of the speed from Marine this will also slide to her right that’s got some pace Karen it sure does and she’s going to have quite a bit of work coming back but she’s got to make up five shots meen I mean 12 under par she’s got a good lead and on a on a golf course where birdies are hard to come by she just keeps playing steady she’s going to be really tough yeah especially that stretch they have on that back nine all right win now for to save this one for par there’s a little knob she’s putting up and over right now this is really a speed putt and she misjudged that by a lot that’s a lot left there for her bogey that was terrible she’s going to say it’s terrible she knows it was it seemed like you’re just trying to get it over the hill but you’re with the wind but it’s just it was not even close to being enough making a big mess of this hole northwestern right now second they’re five under comfortably but you just don’t want to you can make bogeies you just don’t want to make doubles Karen no i mean the the good thing if Northwestern I mean they got Northwestern and Oregon trying to get in that in the the qualifying second spot you want to be as far away from Stanford as you possibly can be yeah you want to be in another state you know yeah so so second spot matters here exactly all right ly wo down safe par i mean there’s a riskreward but par where she had it that’s probably what she was going to make that’s not hurting that’s not hurting her game just keep making pars bo get a par five is not going to help kind of a couple sixes on her card there such a such a talent though yeah oh it was that start though four under through six and we thought here comes Lah going to make a charge trying to catch this young lady Maria Jose Marine trying to save par at 10 when you’re trying to win an individual NCAA title these putts can get nervy breathing is so important been rock solid rounds of 70 7265 maria Jose Marine three under on the day and three clear here in [Music] California back at the 11th Katherine Park she’s got the driver 260 front couple birdies in a bogey in her car 35 on the front nine left oh this is not good there’s stuff over there actually might get a break oh that might be on 12 to 12 it’s too And it’s the Energizer Bunny and it’s going to miss everything and she’s going to get on the grasp she may have to play it from Oh that could be You’re going to may have to play it off the card path cuz her drop’s going to be It’s not done yet but it could have been a lot worse oh yeah she’s got a lot of grain to work with that’s a positive thing I guess back into the wind you’re the eternal optimist Jim i love What’s happening to me who am I let’s go to the green at eight pick up Kelly Sue from Stanford she’s nine under she’s three back looking to get a little bit closer and this is a player hasn’t hasn’t had a victory and she’s you know trying to make a difference she’s uh ranked 29th in the women’s amateur golf rankings which you know he thinks it’s pretty good but on on the team that Stanford have that’s not not close to being their top of their their team it’s got a chance yes it does the junior from Claremont California rolls that in moves to 10 under par and back on the tea you saw Paula Martin San Pedro and Brooke Riley the assistant coach for Stanford watching that so Kelly Sue who finished tied for 17th at regionals maybe finding her form at the biggest event of the year as we watch Mirabbel Ting at 11 yeah she’s anxiously watching it oh okay that might have got far enough compared to where Lahi had it but there’s just a huge slope in there but if she can get it within 10 12 ft she said a pretty good second shot this tea being moved up is really tempting these players to I like it to go for it today back to the green at 8 da Lee the junior for Northwestern she did win the Ping ASU Invitational earlier this season on her way to becoming second team all Big 10 selection and you think about the Wildcats ranked 11th in the country as a team one win three times a runner up making their 11th appearance in the NCAA championships and Jim you go back to 2017 rich Harvest Farm they made it all the way to that championship match before falling to Arizona State so Emily Fletcher every three four five years puts together a group that can make a run and gets a lot of California players too and it’s uh you know great school obviously but year in and year out they’re a very competitive team yeah diana from just down the road in San Diego so she’s going to give one back there but as a team Northwestern in a really good spot currently third at three under as we head back over to 11 yeah meen laid it up here now just a little sand wedge in and it was an advantage for Meereen to go last because she could see her playing competitors get a little have some trouble down on the left side this is just perfect position for her 100 yards this flag is sitting in a little bowl as well well also a benefit to her having a couple of shot lead like she doesn’t have to chase or or try and make something happen she just can keep plotting along and make birdie with your wedges exactly pl your strength and that shouldn’t come off the slope some i mean that’s that’s the you know for the long hitters it entices them to go for it she plays the more strategic for her game she’s got a chance for birdie okay the ball did actually go into the penalty area now so it’s a it’s a 50 get the yardage here figure out what the next play is right in here so go ahead and tag that then you’re going to get a club length any direction no near the hole you can measure with any club and for a while Jim it looked like Catherine Park caught an enormous break yeah it just as you said it just kept rolling so that’s the tricky part i think you need a little bit there you go that’s good actually the ball is not in a penalty she’s taking the drop on the pass get that confirmation sorry i’m so sorry yeah it’s okay if I saw my ball laying like that I’d probably Well she figures that out let’s go back over to the eighth hole and see what’s going on over there yeah we’re going to watch Paula Martin San Pedro the Stanford sophomore she made a beautiful putt at the last Burko to save par she’s made some really nice par saves hasn’t had a birdie yet on her scorecard but that’s a nice approach shot to set her up for a possible two yeah and we saw that whole location on the eighth last year really difficult to get it close it it it was and uh because the greens were insanely firm um they’re a lot softer they’ve had a year to grow in um and even throughout the early part of this week uh this whole the green has been firm but because we’ve had some rain soft toughened things up a little bit that’s the T-OT for Lauren Win popular spot 5 7 10 yards past that whole location is because if you’re slightly off and you come up a little bit short in those front bunkers very easy to plug in the face and they are quite deep leaving a a very difficult up and down all right Marl’s going to go ahead and go this is her second shot this is a difficult chip for Ting it’s going to be very downhill needs to land this pretty much just on the green nice small play that’s actually really good Karen that is excellent i said 10 or 12 feet would be great well then that’s way better than great impressive that’s how you get five wins that’s why you’re so good mhm that’s impressive all right uh update us here was that a free drop off the path or a penalty drop what was the play there it it was a drop off the path which was extremely fortunate and this was a risk that head coach Justin Silverstein could take with Park because they are in solo fourth right now as a team so he could focus on her trying to be aggressive and trying to win this championship individually your nearest point must have been there cuz their nearest point would have been in the deep stuff but to get to the nearest point was right there she took the relief very very fortunate now really birdie’s in play birdie is certainly in play for Park has about 60 ft of green to work with can take a direct line at this flag if she’s able to get this ball to start rolling about 20 ft short of the flag that’s where it can catch that slope and really creep towards the hole she has 70 yards i doubt they kind of get the yardages from here when they took a practice round luckily you’ve got distance measure distance measuring device this is where it comes into play and speeds it up whoa oh wow yep big break trying to take advantage of it four would still be good but three would be a bonus that’s what I love about golf sometimes you get a good break we’re here at the ninth this for par just to stay at four under for Stanford not that they need any help but that’s what they’ve done all week long one of the great freshman Maya Orton Gren remarkable the Cardinal the performance the depth of the lineup the international flavor stroke play events they’re perfect seven for seven starting in October then heading into February and March and into May and if you’re tuning in and you see Stanford has a 26 shot lead you think it’s over but far from it the ACC championship stroke play match play component what happened in the semifinals wake Force beat Stanford we know starting tomorrow match play the great equalizer karen it it is because this golf course is a really wonderful matchplay golf course it requires a certain skill set to play stroke play on this course you have to be very target disciplined you have to be very patient where whereas in match play it allows players to kind of open up a little bit and be a little bit more creative and and play shots that are more aggressive so it requires a different skill set and so that’s going to be a challenge for Stanford to turn that around and go from the stroke play to that match play yeah Ameilia you know that uh that transition you go from that stroke play as Karen said now you got to switch it turn it on to a different mentality and go back in the to the match play which I love it’s one-on-one it’s you against the other person big numbers just don’t hurt you like they do in stroke play well I always find it amazing when you get to a difficult golf course like Lacosta in stroke play how much more tentative you can be and when it’s just one other person you’re playing against you’re way more freed up not a whole lot of break here for Park what a birdie this would be yeah that’s what a couple of the coaches had said there you go they were a little conservative in the stroke play but that was a great three you get bonuses for a lucky little break but you know what you get plenty of bad ones so it kind of evens out hopefully in the long run head to the green at eight paula Martin San Pedro’s got a look at birdie this would be her first birdie of the day moving right to left the whole way and like Lauren win before her from Northwestern unable to convert but you think of this Stanford team the two juniors in Mega Gan and Kelly Sue sophomore in Paula Martine San Pedro two freshman mayor Orton Gran Andrea Ruelta and then you’ve got a top 60 player in the world in Norris Sunberg who can’t even get into the starting five doesn’t seem fair marine now for birdie this is a difficult one to read almost looks like it could go both ways really have to trust that start line nope that was the push probably a little bit of a misread combination but hit a good shot in there didn’t take advantage of it she’ll make par stay to 1200 to 12 wii w state standout this for birdie little bit of an awkward hole location on a on a bit of a ridge can we talk about Stanford in the early going here the top two amateurs in the world they reside in Tallahassee and Lahi Wde and Mirabel Ting they do and uh I think though that you know what Stanford has as we watch Ting for her birdie we’ll get back to what Stanford has in a moment for backto back birdies for Ting is that any good karen seminals are good too don’t count them out listen I’m trying hard to not I know you’re staying as neutral as you can and she gives it seol Ting with some firepower does she have enough coming down the stretch we’ll find out our coverage of the 2025 NCAA Division 1 Women’s Golf Championships continues from Lacassa and it is presented by AT&T 43rd edition of this national championship second straight year here at Omni Lacasta Resort and Spa and we have seen the renovation from a year ago Karen and now the maturity of this golf course players coaches all raving about the condition they are i think last year uh all the coaches were a little bit scared of of the conditions it was played incredibly hard firm much softer course this year all right Tia 12 Mirabel Tang coming off of two straight birdies five shots off the lead see if she can keep it going this is a very firm green you have to land something short of this flag 156 yards and 18 paces to work with short that’s going to leave a very difficult up and down from over there the only way to get it close would be to bounce it into the bank and hop it up she was aiming a bit to the right i think she uh kind of felt that and made an adjustment at the last minute media it’s funny how that happens the wind is coming out of the right you really have to make sure though that you commit to it it’s easy to get greedy when you’re a pin seeker and you’re as good of a ball striker as Ting is to overcompensate and according to Bushnell it is 138 to the front 156 to the hole 181 to the back of the green as we watch Maria Jose Marine and for the second time in a row Marine has had the opportunity to watch two shots before she gets to go parks landed about hole high and pitched 30 ft long one of the greatest strengths in Marine’s game is her iron play yeah I think she also is coming in with a bit of confidence with her irons too because of the more receptive nature of these greens mentioned that here yesterday after her round thank you that got so unlucky Karen it just landed on a little down slope a foot short and that would have been much closer so that just through the green for Maria Jose Marine at the 12th and for more on the Arkansas sophomore we welcome in Brenley Roi thanks Burko let’s go back to 2019 who could forget former Arkansas star Maria FSY and that great battle with Jennifer Cup Show at Augusta National then fast forward a few months later she wins the NCAA individual title on her home golf course the blessings in Fateville Arkansas meanwhile all the way down in Colombia a 12-year-old Maria Jose Marine talented golfer swimmer even did ballet for nine years was watching and left inspired and when it came came time for her recruiting process the very first phone call was from Arkansas head coach Shauna Estus Taylor of course all these years later Marie now a top 10 player in the world one of the premier ball strikers in the country and looking to follow in FSY’s footsteps as a potential NCAA individual champion well everything she’s done in nearly two years at Arkansas has checked most of the boxes now the SEC player of the year joining fellow Razerbacks Maria FSY and Stacy Lewis the other two to claim that honor you know what also FSY and Lewis did they won the NCAA individual championship maria Jose Marine trying to do the very same here in 2025 pretty good two two players to follow in Stacy Lewis and Maria FSY really good footsteps right there stacy Lewis still has big ties there uh with the school as does Maria FY so she’s she’s around those players all the time great influences and great role models I think for for young players to follow don’t forget she had an E entry at the USM in the semis and had the WD we didn’t know how bad it was took a few weeks off came back and had this great fall so that could have been a scary time all right Carrie Sue for par a pretty good birdie putt but come up short again uh that was a short little backstroke and that’s a bokei at the ninth so she’ll drop a shot we were at Southern Hills talking about I was there when it happened it scared me watching the match and she gutted it out for four five six holes and then finally said “I I can’t do it anymore.” And I remember speaking with her after and she said it’s it’s happened before and to your point luckily few weeks get some rest and she said she’s now more committed to stretching and preparing and healing after the round is done as we head over to 12 and see what Mirabel Ting is facing with her second oh this feels like a very key up and down for Ting very difficult to be able to judge this the lie is kind of bare and just on a down slope the fact that it is on a down slope will help her be able to bump this into the ups slope that’s really the only way to get it close it’s so fast coming over this green what she’s going to have to do is make sure that Ting is right of the sprinkler heads in front of her ball or in front of the green which is kind of in her ey line i have seen a very good shot from a very similar spot here yesterday uh Megan Propeek from Virginia hit one bumped it into the bank and it hit the flag and ended up just a couple of inches so it is possible to do but it is insanely difficult you might need some luck like a little back stop from a flag this is where imagination is so important finding that spot where you’re going to bump it in how you’re going to keep that loft low that’s too hard sit oh that came out really hot so Mirabel Ting a lot remaining for her par there at 12 let’s go to green at 18 anya Donigan LSU senior this for birdie the LSU Tigers trying to get inside that top eight they were out early this morning and they’re going to need to make a handful of birdies on these final two holes they will it’s been a tough week for for Anna so far um but I think that she would take anything to to help her team get into match play because I know that once she gets into match play she’s going to be a fighter for LSU yeah best round of the week for Donigan you see the Tigers right now in a tie for ninth at 14 over currently three shots out of that Magic Eight spot so you wonder can they maybe post 12 or 13 and see what Texas and South Carolina will do coming down the stretch all right back to the green here at 12 just off the back of the putting surface maria Jose Marine set to go lag putting is one of those skills that’s kind of underrated and not talked about as much but if you’re a good lag putter it puts so much less stress on the putter when it comes to having to make those putts inside of 8 ft this one is a double breaker relatively flat maybe slightly downhill it’s going to start left and then feed right at the hole people always ask you know what how do you become a good lag putter i think it stems from having really good visualizations watching the ball rolling uh and sort of replaying it in real time in your own head that way you get a feel for it it’s almost as if you’ve re almost as if you’ve had a practice run at the putt yeah there’s several drills you would do where you had to get the ball to the hole and let the length of your putter in a semicircle and work it from different 25 35 45 ft till you do teach your brain that it becomes second nature san Pedro now second here at nine back hole location back right she’s at eight under this one’s headed out right she’s had a few weak wedges today that haven’t made it to the green yeah and that’s going to fall down into that bottom some green to work with but that’s not a very good shot missed the shot back at the seventh as well now Katherine Parks birdie on the way at 12 you would have thought maybe Maria showed her kind of the way kind of the line kind of the speed she had to teach so she so she knew what it was going to do except um when you see a player come up a little a little short like that often they haven’t quite hit it center so they didn’t quite catch it as they wanted to which takes a bit of speed off of off of it keep it right here see if Mirabel Ting can stay five back with how fast Ting’s chip was from the other side of the green this is going to be a slow putt oh how about that three by Mirabel you heard me say it’s been a long day it’s been a great week and a great season for Mirabel and the Seinals an absolute delight to be around this young lady karen she is amy is so happy to have her on her team and part of this seinal squad and there’s Amy her coach amy Bond’s done a remarkable job in her 15th year leading the Florida State Seminals as we head over to nine yes and paid for his third she’s got some green to work with going low with this one though this needs to settle yeah it’s just tough to get it up in the air enough Juliet almost a little downwind too just he could not miss the ball right on this hole there’s a few of those greens that are really sharp and this is one of them catherine Park for her par at 12 and that’s left off the get- go you kind of feel she got away a little bit one on the last hole and she gave one back there kind of all evened out a little bit i think there that will drop her to seven under five behind Maria Jose Marine and as you said you get deeper onto this back nine watching Maria clean this up it gets a little more challenging for these pursuers to try to force the issue on some of these inward holes because you have to take chances and this is a golf course that that’s tough to take chances on mhm san Pedro for par moving left to right you have to start this one high enough stud Julia yeah that’s a bogey a missed iron shot couple sloppy iron shots coming in the last couple holes but disappointing bogey but seven under par not a whole lot of disappointment with Stanford Cardinal at 20 under nine under par beautiful day here carl’s bad we’ll be right back and back to the 13th mel Tang now on this hole this is a scorable hole as long as you stay right of that fairway bunker 250 to get in it that’s a beauty just right of that bunker yeah a little crosswind a little right to left wind 265 to the far part of the bunker but uh that should be like you said just fine right there hole location on the front portion of the green that’s a good start to the hole 16 Avery Weed Mississippi State this for birdie on the par three she got out of the gates quickly this week opening with rounds of 69 and 68 gave it a good bit of it back though yesterday was 76 but you can see why you know she was able to have some good scores i mean great looking putting stroke there all right Marine’s going to try to hit it up over this cart there we go that’s a good starting point it’s kind of still in it in the way yeah it sort of is it’s like when you play a practice round and there’s a marker in the fairway and you write that down as your target and then the tournament it goes away you’re like “Oh where’s my target?” Yeah she don’t want to aim at it now cuz it’s over to the right that’s too far to carry it sure is got that teed up way high look how high that is well what makes Meen such a great ball striker is how straight she hits it that’s got to get down a little bit there okay didn’t get a lot of roll she’ll have a little longer a lot longer club probably a two club three club difference there than the other two players but fairway all right let’s go to 18 lsu’s Yosefin Vital this for par and LSU needing to do something here on the last that won’t help because Elsaen right now is eight over par she’s going to be the drop score for LSU so for Ysefin to give one back there you get the sense Jim and Karen 10 maybe 11 over will be the magic number for eighth by day’s end last year it was 20 over in and this year that that is a credit to the golf course being in better shape growing in better and a good setup I think in a combination Karen and some decent weather today it’s true but you say that but it’s just not easy coming in no and and just getting in knowing that you’re right on the bubble and your coaches are trying to coach you to do anything to make PS and just to try and get it in the house it’s you can feel that tension when you’re out there well that’s up to the coach to not allow them to see them feeling the tension that’s a tough That’s a tough juggle it’s hard though cuz it is you know when you’re out there you just you you kind of sense it no matter how much you’re trying not to try being a parent yeah that was a third for Kelly Sue we saw at the tent she’s still in the mix she’ll have a birdie putt trying to catch Maria Jose Marine back at the 13th Fairway yeah our coverage of the Division One Women’s Golf Championships continue it is presented by Steel and Jimmy i know you were anxious to see what Maria Jose is going to do here with the three shot lead i get it i know she’s anxious to hit this shauna Taylor their coaches showed up so we know that’s important i’m just going to lay out now and where Marine is laying back a little bit farther than Tang and Park 136 yds it’s downwind there’s a false front with that yardage though she can hit that false front and it should be able to skip up versus spin back and land this whole high wouldn’t be surprised though with her lead landing this whole high and skipping towards the back part of the green yeah even long was not bad it’s not It looks like you’d think it would be a fast putt but I rolled some this morning and it wasn’t but you got to carry this on okay a little club adjustment when you’re in a situation like this in contention to win an NCAA title you really have to take into account your adrenaline how you’re feeling that can totally change what club you select karen did you like to hit the half shot or the full shot um it it depended on how much spin I wanted to put on it or not like if if if I knew that I had room to uh to not spin it back then then I would hit the full shot but if I had to worry about a spin and a false front then I would take one more and smooth it in there okay kind of flushed it probably did what you said went with a little more club hit it solid but that’s okay there i mean that’s it’s a safe i mean it shouldn’t be too bad for her to to get down in two from there it’s always a bit of a lottery if you run back off that false front correct green at 10 stanford’s Kelly Sue for Birdie will get within two so Stanford what makes them so good they are strong from their number one player all the way to their number five player there are so many great teams in in college golf that have a strong from one to three one to four there’s always one that can or may or may not play but they all play well in Stanford speaking a great player from Oregon having a great day and oh this is getting better good did we get another Hello darling by the way if that went Jim that would have got her to seven under through the first 11 holes we were talking in the break we’re like “Oh look at what Kiara Rivero is doing.” Not a surprise no she figured it out all right Tang now I would love to see Mirabel challenge this front pole location given that Marine has outside of 40 ft going to be unlikely she makes birdie this is really where if Mirabbel wants to try and get this title from Meereine she’s going to have to try and hit one close 115 great angle too she’s missed a couple left she didn’t miss that left that’s a good shot there Karen that was I mean landed it where she needed to and it’s not that speedy of a putt so that’s definitely what she’d make giving a run from one seinal to another lahi W her second and 14 we have seen and grown accustomed to Lahi Witting many golf shots like this as we take a look at the finalist for the Anuka Award presented by Steve will hand it out each and every year to the top female collegiate golfer we start in the fall with about two or three dozen names and then it starts getting paired down and we’re down to the final four carla Bernat the senior from Kansas State who won the Augusta National Women’s Amter kiara Romero coming into this week off of a conference and regional championship mirabbel Ting has won five times this season and oh by the way Lahi Wo the top ranked ammon in the world in the top three in every single tournament she has played this season that’s crazy she’s been number one player in the world for quite some time as well that is a one-two punch that can rival Mhm anyone in the country you talk about Stanford’s depth let’s say Florida State and Stanford do cross paths in match play they’re interchangeable as Lahi W looks to get to four under and currently she’s tied for 10th she’s going to have to make up about four strokes to keep that top three streak continuing right on Q there it goes and a lot of a lot of players don’t like to think about those things they don’t like to think about the records or or what what they’re doing she loves it she really wants to know what she’s doing she is all on board with it um she never shies away from a leaderboard ever like she is 100% competitor and that’s what the great ones do right they want to embrace the moment the pressure that comes with trying to ascend to the top we saw it at the Augusta National Women’s Amate how she finished off to win that was just one of the most impressive things I’ve seen well let’s go to 18 taylor Riley LSU a counting score for the Tigers this another long par putt and it’s going to be another bogey for Garrett Renan’s team so Jim we thought they maybe needed to make a couple of birdies on 18th they’re going the wrong way to post and even have a chance to try to move on to match play yeah that’s a disappointing finish there she played pretty solid all day long actually the last two days of course she’s from San Diego area dad Chris mom Michelle played at LSU dad a tour winner and one of the best putters out there during his time exactly so you see it lsu dropping down south Carolina holding on to that eighth and final spot arizona State right there three shots doesn’t take much for that to flip-flop in a hurry what a view of the 13th that is awesome right there there’s so many great views on this golf course but that’s one of the best ones right there it is a picture perfect day out there it is really nice this is This is why people come to San Diego absolutely well first couple days I was wondering cuz I hadn’t seen rain in the forecast but they had enough i think that’s why you’re seeing everything so green had just enough little bit of moisture there you go that’s a blue sky all right Marine now for birdie meen is just in such control of her game it’s been 30 holes since she’s had a bogey the irons the lag putting her mentality over each shot it just doesn’t look like anything phases her right now and this putt’s slower it looks like it’s going downhill but at the end it really slows down so getting judging the speed is going to be the difficult part [Music] okay there’s a little bit of work there i think what she has to be careful of is to is to not play too cautious correct cuz it’s very easy to kind of really hit the brakes at this point and and say “Okay I don’t want to make any mistakes.” And you play to not make mistakes as opposed to playing how you’ve been playing which is aggressively to make birdies kelly Sue going to go ahead and lay it up here she’s going with the iron she’s just a three back but maybe playing to her strength saw Marine lay up as well had a good chance for birdie didn’t convert it but that’s the play she’s going with and that’ll be just fine and to Karen’s point about Maria Jose Marine not playing too cautiously she doesn’t know what Kelly Sue is doing behind her catherine Park hello there you go how about that bounce back how about it how about following learning the line as well from Marine nice putt she’s hanging around Jim catherine Park now eight under four back yeah absolutely that gets her to eight under so not out of this by any means that was so good we’re going to have to take another look at this i love the way she was so aggressive with this learned the speed after watching Marines putt coming down well I really held that follow through too you can always tell when a players hit a good putt when they like it they hold that follow through there’s no rebound it was going with some speed all right Ting now for birdie and it can get challenging to adjust your read after you’ve seen a putt like Katherine Parks but Ting is not going to have the same kind of speed as Parks really have to trust your gut here this will turn left didn’t quite high enough hit a nice shot in there just didn’t quite take advantage of it rain still has about three and a half four feet for par taking a walk off with par she wanted to make that she’ll stay at seven under five back it’s such a great point Karen to not play too conservatively for Marine you think about a putt that Catherine just made that can rattle you as a leader when you don’t expect a putt like that to drop yes and there’s and there’s not a vast array of scoreboards out there so it’s hard to really know where everybody stands apart from where you are in your group so you just have to try and post as low a number as you can and not try and change that mentality that you had that’s got you to this spot oh big steak and this you know this is what can happen sometimes a little window now of opportunity for the players chasing all right Virginia’s not out of it kennedy Swedish for birdie at nine so watch out for them they’re at 16 over south Carolina’s on that bubble at 11 that’s a nice putt jim do you want to finish on the front nine or the back as these teams try to get in match i think the front nine although the seventh’s hard but I think the front nine might be a little bit of an advantage that nice birdie by Kennedy there stanford in control we’ll be right back back on the tea at 14 maria Jose Marine 11 under and a two shot lead after Marines coming off of that short par miss really needs to make sure she compartmentalizes this is a nice strike here 220 to clear that penalty area longer yeah it’s a longer carry the more right you go and while accurate Maria not one of the longest hitters out here all right Kelly laid it up this is her second shot got the little back stop if she wants to use that she’s currently at 9 under that’s only two back this is definitely getable said it earlier and they made it but I think this is where a coach like Anne Walker will have sat her team down and said “Listen it’s it this this hole is goating you to go so just chill out let’s lay it up and let’s make our shots from there.” Ting 14 you can see she was a little bit feisty too with that uh that quick pick up she knew she struck it well we go to 18 rosio Tahedo from LSU should be away julius caught up with the Tigers finishing up here at the last and currently Julia LSU 16 overpar five off that magic number currently held by South Carolina in the eighth spot she really needs to make this putt fortunately she should be second to go ucla has a par putt here so she’ll get a read this is a difficult putt to read here it’s on a little ups slope there’s a slope coming slightly off the left so you really want to know exactly what’s going on if you’re Rosio here yeah you mentioned UCLA up first natalie Vo set to go and how about the job Alicia um Holmes the Bruins head coach has done this season they made it all the way to the championship match a year ago before falling to Stanford at the end of the fall semester Zoe Campost their best player turns professional their second best player Caroline Canales comes back for one event turns professional in February found a way to cobble together a lineup due in large part to Natalie and others to get through regionals and be on the cusp of making it to match play spectacular job oh just amazing i I spoke to Alicia uh back a few months ago in South Carolina when we when we covered the Darus Rucker Invitational and she was very cool calm and collected about the whole thing she took it all in her stride and I think when you have a coach that doesn’t panic about these things it’s very easy for the players to buy in and and be part of that culture and that’s Aaron Yu the assistant there big part of the success the last few seasons for UCLA now to an enormous birdie putt here at the last have to get it there have to give it a chance oh that’s what she does i think she knew what she needed to do there Burko and she just her hands got a little jumpy at the bottom that’s a lot left for her five and the same could be said for Garrett Renan at LSU you lose Ingred Lindblad Latana Stone Carla Tahedo Rosio’s older sister the big three that made it to match play a year ago and to have a chance to get back in it another great coaching job by Garrett Ren over at 14 Jose Marine her second marine in perfect position just 109 yards back into the wind would love to flight this one and leave it below the hole for an uphill putt not an ounce of tension in her forearms at a dress it’s always a good sign okay but be a tough two putt too that was for a two putt par so she’s going to make bogey and for all intents and purposes LSU not going to move on to match play because their final player on the course Elsa Fenson going to be the drop score for LSU but a valiant run by the Bayou Bengals trying to make it back to match play in 2025 and it’s when it really starts sinking in Jim that you know we tried we fought but it just wasn’t enough exactly kelly out for Birdie this gets her to 10 under good slide right at the end it’s right in the center that’s a nice putt and that decision to lay up off the tee really paying dividends there well it played to her strength i mean that’s what the I mean I was an aggressive player maybe not always the you know smartest move sometimes but for her that was the strategic play for her but sometimes just pulling out driver is almost a little bit of an lazy option because you don’t have to work out how far you have to lay up it’s just as easy just to pull driver and go for it mirabbel Ting at 14 just 89 yards for Ting i like this trajectory here oh yeah she’s not going away Karen no she’s just hanging around i mean number two player in the world we saw her make a run of birdies at the Folds of Honor to kick off this season in route to a victory she has it certainly in her arsenal now at eight Amanda Sambach Virginia Cavalier senior this for birdie and that was big cavaliers still with the chance to post and get into that eighth and final spot you posed the question about finishing on nine versus finishing on 18 you’re kind of away from the hub up and excitement of it all when you’re finishing down on that that side of the course too that’s all the way over on the other side of the road jacqueline Laha she’s a county score that’s for birdie that could go a long way too for Virginia beautiful shot you hang around long enough Jimmy you’re you’re gonna see a little volatility this individual race 40 minutes ago we thought was Maria’s now that advantage is won as we follow up on the team component top eight move on to match play quarterfinals tomorrow south Carolina has given one back they’re at 12 over virginia has a really good look for Laha and her birdie at nine to get within two and Arizona State still with some golf holes to play coaches know where they stand it’s just up to the whether the players want to know don’t they Karen well it’s true but you you can always sense you can sense yeah you really can look at your coach and see them on the phone well it’s it’s it’s when they come running up to you when you’re on a over a difficult shot that you know something’s going on and that’s a big part of coaching to know which players can handle that moment and some maybe just go about your business and we’ll add them up at the end yeah you know sometimes you’re used to being on your own i’m you know for me let me finish myself all right let’s head over to 16 the par three we’re going to follow this shot of Cindy Co with our Tracer Technology presented by AT&T what a difference a year makes especially on this screen to be able to see good quality shots are well received it was almost impossible to keep a shot on this screen last year uh the NCAA have done a great great job in setting the course up they’ve moved the tee down to the right to play the lower te T box and everything much softer up there yeah give them a chance i don’t have a problem with that let these ladies show how good they really are uh that’s what I believe i mean a good quality shot should be rewarded well you you’ve watched LPGA Tour Golf you’ve watched Dilbert i think the gap between top amateur golf and professional golf is really closing yeah it’s shrinking you’re right on both men and women it’s really shrinking all right let’s go to the green at 14 maria Jose Marine coming off a three putt bogey and somewhat in that similar length as she probably would love to get down in two from here well this is where it’s really important to manage the tension in your body when you feel pressure it’s easy to get a little tense in the hands which can affect the speed control in your lag putting how did you quickly revert Karen back to positive thoughts not what you did on the green prior it’s just really staying in that moment like if you’re playing well you you’re in that zone and you can’t wait to get to the next shot like it’s almost like whatever happens in the past doesn’t matter who you’re playing with doesn’t matter you’re just focusing on the strike and the quality of the shot that you’re playing in that moment at that time you’ve got to get lost in your own game all in all not too bad pretty good been still another tester having just missed a missed a shortage one at the last all right Law Huffer Birdie let’s get Virginia to 140 over and only two out of that eighth spot oh you can’t oh man hit such a beautiful shot in there that one’s going to hurt back to 14 got Mirabel Ting getting ready for her birdie putt if it goes would move her to eight under and just three back well this was just excellent wedge control from Ting was able to flight it under the wind this putt isn’t too speedy either should turn just slightly to her left there you go oh here comes Mirabel boy did that look any good and you have to think that both Mirabel and Lotty playing on the same team have really kind of driven each other along yeah I agree yeah it’s important to have that well and and and Mirabel would would watch Lotty i mean Lotty’s work ethic is is second to none so Mirabel would look and see what Lott’s doing and be like “Oh you know it’s like almost like a great role model.” And Mirabbel’s been able to run with it yeah and they’re polar opposites according to head coach Amy Bond yet they’re number one and two in the world amateur golf rankings katherine Park saves her par so remains at 8 under as well just hanging around Jim and they’re playing alongside the championship leader so they know exactly what Maria Jose Marine is doing as opposed to Kelly Sue who’s 10 under one back and maybe not completely dialed in to the situation and this is a lot longer than it first appeared for Marine in her par yeah just outside of 5t former rain really important to treat that last short putt like an anomaly she makes so many of these in practice all of her drills just needs to trust that start line solid mhm and needed yeah because Kelly Sue who’s on the T of 12 is just one back looking a little anxiously at it it’s that big hop on that green that Amelia had talked about 30 minutes ago so work to do for Kelly Sue the junior from Stanford one back and continuing to chase we are back at the par 31 12th kelly Sue T-shot ending up over the green she’s 10 under she’s one off the lead looking to get up and down and Julia’s down there she didn’t draw too bad of a lie here it’s kind of sitting up nicely she’s opening that club face up she has some green to work with it is slightly downwind right now as well this will test her going high with it and trying to get it to land soft needs to settle [Applause] though not a bad effort all in all [Applause] so she will have that for her par to stay one behind Maria Jose Marine who’s on the T of 15 yeah going just a layup here 238 to stay short of that bunker this is a little bit of a pull should be okay though yeah the left side here might be a little better angle this just a hard location to get it in there it’s hard to spin it whole location on the front portion on a little bit of a plateau that’ll work t at 16 lahi W ready to go that’s okay she was looking um I think to move that a little more left than she did she was aimed out to the right all right grace Summer Hayes hit a beautiful shot in here this for birdie her score counts she had a nice opening day couple not so good second third round but a good day today and nice birdie that’s going to help Arizona State beautiful putt there gets her an 11 over but after that bogey good bounce back but that helps them yeah it’s the 11 o over you don’t focus on it’s the the chance the ability to help your team correct make it to match play such an intriguing dynamic as you watch college golf at the highest level we go back to the green at 12 northwestern’s Da Lee has this for birdie left it below the hole here very nice shot in not having her best day today but this would be some nice momentum to grab head down these last few very difficult golf holes [Applause] center cut for Lee yeah I like how she had her hands high uh really taking the wrists out of the equation and the hands making her rock her shoulders northwestern solid right now in that third spot maybe it’s the jockeying for position ultimately you’re you’re going to have to face Yep goliath at some point when we speak about Stanford but match play all bets are off when the race to three points starts and that gets going tomorrow morning with the quarters the semis tomorrow afternoon and championship Wednesday yeah the lead with the trophy you got Daniel got to be somebody right all right let’s see if Kelly Sue can say par this would be a very nice par here coming off a birdie at the last she’s headed in to some pretty difficult golf holes coming up you do not want to drop one [Applause] here oh [Music] Sue now nine under two back as we watch Mirabel Ting see if she can keep it going jim absolutely well the only player who hit it on that right side Burko I think she has the best angle yeah according to Bush now 110 yards in for Ting that’s about what she hit it that’s a really good shot on that plateau that’s a tough one to get close but she not a bad spot to put for absolutely now it’s really makeable that was excellent all right Virginia trying to hang in there the Zambach now for par they’re like three shots back of South Carolina so get this in and I have to wait but solid day for them [Music] but is it enough we’ll find out we’ll find out in the next 90 minutes or so arizona State trying to make a charge two off that A spot as we watch Grace Summer Hayes at eight oh no that’s not going to help that’s horrible spot deep bunker over there that’s not the miss mm-m great view from about the 15th fairway right there in the middle even though Marine just has 90 yards it’s very easy to be in between clubs here because you want to make sure you have enough club to carry that front bunker this green though isn’t very deep so if you land it just a couple of paces long maybe with a little pull which Marine did do on the last it can easily roll to the back or even over really important to dial this one in and if it goes over it’s going in the penalty area it shouldn’t be in play with this club green’s a little bit above too so the ball’s going to come in a little bit flatter correct so contact is huge here for getting spin this is launched nice and high x what a shot there you go that’s awesome right there so good rain trying to hold on to that two shot lead but she’s got a chance to extend it beautiful [Music] smile we are back at 16 lonnie Wo top ranked amitter in the world just off the green looking to get to five under looked like it bobbled a little bit coming off that just those first cut yeah that first foot and a half that she had to go through at least Lam more for par for South Carolina here at seven she’s a counting score so she needs to make this one uh-oh and you’re going to hear over the next 90 minutes or so a counting score a non-counting score that can change hole by hole and likely will south Carolina has Lam more at three over two others at four over par yeah she’s made some bogeies on that second nine the front nine or second nine that’s not good finishing that’s going in the wrong direction pressure’s on now it got a lot tighter here as we expected it to tang now for birdie in perfect position putting below the hole that’s at least a cup outside right oh look at her go like cuz now like everything was looking good for Marine cuz she’s in there tight now Ting’s just like not so fast such a talented player look at that four birdies in her first six holes on this final nine mhm all right let’s go to Grace Summerhaz at eight par three just under a 100red yards and you said no good there no but that’s really good that That’s exceptional i mean cuz that bunker is so deep so far below that green surface to have that kind of control if she makes that par that will go a big time now Marine’s going to make this for birdie well this is where you want to start to get a little bit into that match play mode after Mirabel making backto-back birdie saying “I’m not going anywhere on this leaderboard.” O uh-oh couple shaky putts it’s It just makes it harder when the when the player has made one in front of you and you can feel the momentum going in their direction even it just makes those putts tougher is that purely psychological absolutely yeah i mean Mirror Bell’s just crushed it on those last few holes ting Sue two back a sophomore heading to the tea at 16 and what a three this would be for Grace Summerhaz Arizona State senior considering where that T-OT ended up and how about Grace Summer Haze i mean that was amazing i’m I’m sitting here in the booth giving a polite golf clap cuz you were thinking four or five easily in the equation i’m I’m thinking if she makes a four from here it’s going to be magnificent so So to come off with a three is just tremendous just what her team needed at that moment and Summer Hayes a counting score currently for Arizona State that is 14 over ninth spot one behind South Carolina we head to the tea par 31 16th maria Jose Marine she’s 11 under two clear of Mirabel Ting catherine Park right there from USC not out of it as well eight under three back so three heavyweights front and center here on this championship Monday in Carl’sbad and when you compare the back nines between Maria Jose Marine the leader and Mirabbel Ting Murbell’s made four birdies marine hasn’t made a birdie on this backside compared to how she started the round three under on her front side ting has turned the corner in her ball striking and converting with the putter cuz she started the front n one over par and go back to the folds of honor that Mirabbel won in September she birdied 13 14 15 16 17 in the final round she’s not afraid the game has backed up the results and at this point why not florida State is comfortably going to move on to match play why don’t you cap off one of the great seasons we’ve seen recently in college golf and try to win an individual national championship so Mirabbel Ting getting ready to go she is nine under two shots off the lead and with a whole lot of confidence this is also a very favorable hole location in the back with how firm the screen is you want to just carry that bunker 13 yds to the hole about 120 to clear that bunker oh lovely smooth swing is it enough okay she will have a chance for another birdie and speaking of the folds of honor kicking off the college season right here on Golf Channel this was in Michigan back in September mirabbel Ting really not a factor until she was that was a birdie at 15 this was tapping it in at 18 for the winning putt the reactions the celebratory bath from her teammates and it went on to be the first of five victories for her this season remarkable i mean it it really was and I’m I’m not sure that anybody really saw that saw that coming from Mirabel obviously a player that has a great talent played well when she had an opportunity to play on the LPGA tour uh in her home country and uh so she knows that she can do it yeah that’s the only reason she missed the last two events of the fall the prior commitment and and you see the hug with Amy Bond prior to that there was one with Shauna Taylor from Arkansas she’s so likable affable a young lady that has been through so much to get to this point truly someone that is very easy to root for as we now watch Maria Jose Marine kind of in that mode karen needing to hit a quality iron shot and according to Bushnell 112 front 130 to the hole not much behind it just seven paces at 137 even though Marine held a five shot lead at one point something I always liked to tell myself in these situations is I would take a two-hot lead starting the week with three holes to play now let’s finish it oh that’s got to go yeah you can’t be hitting the panic button just cuz someone’s chasing you down but that’s okay but a few nervy moments over the last hour or so for Maria but to Amelia’s point two shot lead three holes to go exactly the opportunity you would have desired oh yeah on Friday morning 13 Kelly Sue second shot here but 14 birdies here one of the tougher holes locations we’ve seen on that front portion okay a little bit of a pull that’ll be a tricky little two putt that’s got some speed little crosswind to putt through as well great look from high above down to the green here at 16 to the far right of that water and penalty area the green the elevated putting surface at 15 really good amphitheater these last three or four holes here on the north course at Lacasta it’s going to be the battle for eight that is really now intriguing to watch will it be South Carolina and Meiss Lamore who’s got a long one for par here at eight and we saw what she did at seven giving one back and going to do the same here at least going the wrong way for the Lady Gamecocks well this is now becoming really tight with uh Arizona State isn’t it yeah likely going to be three players for South Carolina at four over par and she missed it whoa oh no that’s not paying attention there but this is where the math gets a little confusing we’ll try to simplify it it now makes those two scores at four over counting scores so they really only lost one there not two because Meise now becomes a non-counter make a Propek from Virginia their last chance needs this putt to go just missed it out on the right side so they’re posting at 15 south Carolina’s at 13 right now for now for now for now direction’s not the one they want to be going in yeah but if I’m Virginia you’re hanging around at 15 over i’m not going to the airport yeah no exactly in fact you you you’re trying to keep your players warm and loose up just in case you have to go too yeah absolutely nothing is done yet yeah and South Carolina now officially at 14 over because of the two shot swing for Meiss Lamore at eight becomes a non-counter so one of those four overs both of them in fact become counting scores let’s go over to 16 catherine Park her second she probably thought she couldn’t leave that one short above the hole you go back two years ago when she was a freshman the back and forth battle she had with Rose Zang on that final day everyone thought it was going to be a coronation for Rose the big lead diminished park hung around until Rose Zang did what Rose Zang did very often at Stanford especially that sophomore year when she won eight out of 10 events we thought we wouldn’t see anything like it anytime soon mirabbel Ting if she finds a way to win this today six wins it’s in the narrative of one of the better seasons we’ve seen in the last 10 to 20 years but first up Maria Jose Marine marine has been a little tentative on these speed putts she’s a little closer to the hole than she was her last couple of longer ones putting back up the hill as well not going to be as tentative likely got to make sure she gets this one to the hole though it’s going to break to the left oh she’s going to leave herself an uncomfortable distance again well Karen now it just feels like Marine’s playing pingpong a little bit with her speed between leading at 5t short now 4 and 1/2 ft long there definitely feels like there’s a sense of urgency to her game now whereas there wasn’t any earlier and there doesn’t necessarily need to be urgency no not at all not when you’re leading by two as we head over to 13 yeah Ky Sue now for birdie putting up and over a ridge once it crests that ridge it starts to move to the right a little bit this needs to be good speed here you got some speed if it gets going a little bit too much to get by the hole but this is really good there goodness excellent yeah that’s a little wave to the hand she knew it was good played for Stanford everything’s good going to put a spot on that one let’s go ahead and finish it no we’re not let’s go back to 16 where Mirabel Ting is going to have a look at birdie to continue this back nine charge move her to 10 under in within one of the lead and we know Maria Jose Marine work to do for her par but might get a little bonus here mirabbel standing on some sprinkler heads and when Mirabbel does take her club length she does have the option to go toward the green which would help when it comes to having a good start line but I think I think the only reason why you would even take a drop here is so that you don’t it doesn’t feel strange under your feet um otherwise it I mean she’s not going to gain a huge amount yeah it’s not it’s not affecting the line no all right third shot for Summer Hayes they’re currently the bubble at 13 over let’s get this up and down obviously a counted scoreer made a great save at the last hole did she do it again oh this is pretty clutch short game from Summer absolutely that’s a good chance for par it would be a big time par there and Arizona State Jim currently in eighth at 13 over south Carolina has dropped out by a shot at 14 over par arizona State stepping up coming down the stretch south Carolina going the other direction and so Mirabel Ting taking a look at it from the other side of the hole trying to get within one that was courtesy of a Paula Schulz Hansen birdie at the six yeah for Arizona State so maybe finishing on 6789 a little more advantageous we’ll see how that plays out over the next hour or so if Mirabbel were to make this putt it would be for her fifth birdie in seven holes think about the last three putts that Meereen has had in the short range two of them she’s missed the one she made it lipped in so none of them went in the center the ones that she did make last couple of holes for Ting this will go right never on the right line karen no but she’s left it in a spot below the hole putting back up shouldn’t be a problem for for her more importantly Meereen knows that shouldn’t be a problem for Mirabel either well the strength for Meereen as well as Mirabbel but in this situation for Meereen she’s been in these situations she was a semi-finalist at the US women’s amitter last year she’s won three times in college she knows how to win at the biggest stage and so when you’re trying to stay in the present she’s already had to overcome some of those challenges and pulled it off and this is a big putt right here to make sure she plays enough out to the left oh great putt what a part really well done a slight smile for Maria and if you’re new to college golf it is ready golf catherine Park in that group when Mirabel Ting was surveying and getting the free drop catherine let it fly on 17 so not disrespectful if anyone at home wants to say “What in the world is she doing?” It is encouraged to keep it going speed up the play but that’s not going to be a very good lie now Mirabel will stay two back she’s got it there’s a reason she has won five times this year is there anything left in the tank to make it number six we’ll find out when we come back to Carl’sb our coverage of the 2025 NCAA Division 1 Women’s Golf Championships continues and it is presented by AT&T omni Lacassa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad California hosting this national championship for the second consecutive year 43rd edition of this magnificent event as we watch Maria Jose Marine at 17 yeah seven birdies on this hole [Applause] a little bit downwind so pretty wide fairway and that’ll be just fine she’ll love this one got a little bit of roll to it whole location on that back right portion of the green all right let’s go to over to eight the par three beth Coloulter Arizona State this for Birdie ah that took a big swing counting score for ASU currently even and she’ll stay right there so Sunundevils and Gamecocks back and forth trying to get that eighth and final spot to make it into match play all right let’s go over to 14 kiara Romero Oregon sophomore standout won the Big 10 championships won a regional title as well and she continues to roll it right along seven under on the day for Kiara Romero remember she was in that final group the Saturday of the Augusta National Women’s Aminer big moments she’s not afraid big moment here at the 17th Tang now you want to be on the left side of this fairway but this is headed right 230 to clear those bunkers yeah it looked like she tried to get a bit extra out of that one oh she did that’s going to be okay now think about it for a second all right Summer has hit a beautiful chip shot now this is to save the par made a great one at the last hole oh that was not great ah finish bogey we saw LSU make some bogeies at the end almost like she just tried to force it yep hit it way too hard yep solid day today 73 compared to the other two days a nice opening round but she’s hoping that doesn’t come back to haunt her maybe some bonus golf an hour from now jim what you talking about i’m just saying two teams tied at 14 over virginia’s still hanging in there at They are as well see if the Gamecooxs can do something coming down the stretch sophia Bernett for birdie at eight also misses it on the low side bernett and Meliss Lamore both at five over for the Lady Gamecocks we got studio let’s go over to 14 da Lee getting ready to go beautiful T-shot just center of the fairway here this is a really accessible hole location today nine paces on just eight off the left anything slightly below this hole will leave you a really nice putt headed a little right of the whole location but that should be pretty good we’ll leave her a nice little putt there just past the flag stick she’ll have a look at birdie northwestern as a team tied for third two over they are in a really good spot to move on to match play and so is Marine here second shot at 17 135 yds downwind you have to make sure you land this short of the flag stick big drop off long there is a little drop off if it gets about four or five ft right of the whole location it’ll fall off the green so at it or just left it’ll be just fine this is drawing nicely I’d say whoa baby there’s a little slope there i don’t think it’s going to come back off of it all in all pretty solid shot downwind just so hard to spin it greens have really firmed up this afternoon 14 kelly Sue her second the wind has really picked up into these players faces right now that’ll leave a little downhill putt above this hole uh you could tell she really liked the shot though where she was kind of holding that follow through little club twirl all right team now great break from after just clearing the right bunkers by a yard just 105 yards left because she’s in the rough she’s not going to have spin so needs to be careful with that yardage katherine Park was in the left rough and had to just land it on the front wasn’t able to do that so now she has a lengthy one when you’re in the rough it just can create a lot more challenges even with a short club in hand she’s tugged a couple irons that’s going to go a little bit long as well that’s not her best effort so Marine a little bit more of a control she’s got a two shot lead over Tang couple birdie putts left we’re back at the North Course at Omni Lacasta Resort and Spa and the recent renovation by the renowned Hance Golf Course design it was set for last year in the national championships open for play after those were done on June 1st six sets of new TE’s the 11th hole now made drivable they moved the green at 16 to make it a little bit more reminiscent of Augusta Nationals 12th hole the added tea boxes on 18 can play over 600 yds from the back tea if needed and environmental improvements using reclaimed water and natural drought tolerant native plants it has been wellreceived and understandably so and keeping with the college tie Gil Hance a proud pioneer from the University of Denver look at you pulling out the uh teamwork deep inside teamwork the people behind the scenes Jim you know make us look much better than we are believe his name is Peter all right Ting now is long putt for birdie certainly an advantage for Ting given that she’s two back and is going first she can put pressure on Maria this is a difficult one to read though will break to the right there’s a couple of ridges in there though that could turn the ball wiggle it a little bit so matching line and speed is going to be key here wouldn’t be surprised to see this run by the hole mirabel isn’t here just to finish second she’s going to try and win this tournament okay that’s a good speed there a stress-free par for her luis Redquist this is for triple bogey bad drive and this is a downing score rut row oh no that changes things in a hurry you hit on the key point a counting score the Gamecocks give four strokes away just like that wow let’s go to 14 kelly Sue this for Birdie downhill a little right to left but it’s not as fast as these players think another one fooled by the speed of that green on 14 well they’re just so smooth they just seem faster than they are all right Marine for here at 17 to extend the lead and given that Marine made that great par save on the 17th makes her way more comfortable over this putt [Music] would have been a little more comfortable with a threeshot lead going eight i had a feeling she was going to make that one i did too i’m like she this would be just the perfect time up not to close the door but it just it will be locked nonetheless it’s good par brian out for par for ASU this would go a long way they are currently up one over Virginia in was 74 for ASU solid that’s a smile good finish there bars are good at the end stanford with a big lead but it’s bubble time arizona State in by one we are back in Carlsbad California mirabbel Ting needs something special here on the lash trying to catch Maria Jose Marine yeah good not the easiest T-shot want to hit about a 245 shot to a narrow fairway but then you wonder Karen when she gets up there and Amelia talked about it didn’t come to play for second do you try to get it up up and around the green and try to make a three you know and you take a look at Maria Jose Marine well less than driver going to probably stick to the game plan Amelia and make it a three shot hole especially with the lead exactly you want to hit whatever you feel most comfortable with on the tee the fairway is really the same width whether you go short or up to that 245 range she’s taking a little bit longer on that one standing over it and that hangs in there catching the left hand side of the fairway and while we have a moment let’s send it down to Brenley Romine here with Virginia head coach Ria Scott ria in the clubhouse now 15 over your girl shot three over today what did they show you out there today to give yourself a shot fighting till the very finish um we’ve been a back nine team the entire week and even when we made the turn not doing so well we knew that it still wasn’t over um that’s what I know about this team is they’re gritty and they’re going to fight till the very last putt drop so I’m really proud of them now you chose to hang out here around nine green they’re not really watching but what’s going on you think inside each of their heads right now and more importantly inside yours they’re definitely watching they’re watching the scores as well um obviously we were processing the day getting some emotions out but also then mentally preparing ourselves for a possible playoff if that’s the case um but just anything can happen these I mean all the all the players in this field are good and um I hear some cheers over there but you know anything can happen and so we’re just preparing ourselves for whatever that might be yeah exciting finish certainly on tap thank you so much Ria Burko send it back to you seventh year as head coach at Virginia Ria Scott and her team now they sit they wait they’re 15 over will Arizona State see it through to the clubhouse will there be some bonus golf or a potential speed bump like we saw from South Carolina a short time ago all right Beth Coulter this for par now yeah she’s she currently has the lowest score on their team on the ASU team she’s at even par for today got to have it she did what a save amazing couple good saves mhm summer Hayes at eight coulter at nine finishing up on that front side wow it’s that Curtis Cup experience coming out there south Carolina isn’t quite done yet you got Ella Galitzky still out there with a chance to maybe birdie them all coming in and this has been a tough one to read but this is for birdie it goes left just a little bit oh there you go that gets them within two shots a phenomenal talent started in January just a freshman second event out beat Lahi Wde in a playoff you some sense of just how good she is this is Bernette for birdie for South Carolina oh you would have started believing a little more if you see two in a row and by the way she knocked it 5 ft past yeah good point wow yeah that would have changed the whole concept and the whole atmosphere 15 sue second shot dead center of the fairway she wants to look out to the right here that’s the best spot to hit it it’s up there on that plateau stay up there okay that should be fine chance for birdie paula Schultz Hansen for ASU this is for par i’m starting to feel the tension me too oh so did she that was a short backstroke and that’s a pokey and that’s a counting score at the moment arizona State now 15 over tied with Virginia for that eighth and final spot absolutely let’s go to 18 maria Jose Marine with the two shot lead her second in this moment this is where breathing is so important you want to make sure that you keep the same routine but knowing that you have that extra adrenaline to maintain that tempo breathing is critical marine laying up short of that penalty area hitting a about a 170 shot maria finished tied for fourth here a year ago at five under par has yet to shoot around over par and looking to make it eight straight perhaps on route to a national championship at eight that was patience roads from Arizona State a counting score then becomes a non-counter with that bogey falling to three over par that was vicious m it’s hard to make me speechless but I might be right there it’s so tight right it’s all right mirabbel Ting second at the last it’s just too far to go for it 225 to clear that penalty area ting would have needed to hit something further down in there to go for it in two huh she’ll have to make four and get some help along the way kelly Sue still with golf to play on this Monday at Lacosta all right Kelly Sue for birdie at 15 she really left it in a perfect spot to a very difficult hole location putting back up the hill she can be aggressive with this one should pull a little left yeah it’s stayed left so she’ll make par she’ll stay at nine under there’s a couple birdies I would assume come in depending what Marine does at 18 had a couple good chances there still a solid day really good scores this week good to see it and speaking of Maria Jose Marine here she is at 18 her third 105 yards the green pitches from right to left i would expect this one with her course management to be out to the right the ball is above her feet though and she has hit a couple of poles today oh that’s really solid well played with the circumstances there you know knowing that everything’s on the line having to put the ball into three different separate locations one off the tea one off the layup and then one into the green all right let’s go over to eight paula Schulles Hansen Arizona State the short par three 95 yds counting score at the moment for the Sunundevils so that’s the smart safe play little bit long with the flag third on the way at Ting for Ting at 18 got to make it [Applause] boy oh boy she tried didn’t she yeah great effort another great week for the Florida State Jr you got likely to fall short and we don’t know what Kelly Sue is going to do over the next 45 minutes but the charge she put on to make it interesting as we watch Katherine Park trying to drive that one in a little lower well that was a really difficult lie that Park had it was well above her feet so hard to control it it’s a walk you hope for will it be a walk followed by a celebration in about an hour we will find out still lots of golf to be played with Kelly Sue but we’ve also seen how difficult it is all right we’re going to make our way over to 16 northwestern there doing what they need to do currently third as a squad they’re going to move on to match play this is Da Lee and we’re going to follow it with our Top Tracer technology presented by AT&T you mentioned earlier Steve how consistent Northwestern are as a school year in year out emily Fletchie does such a good job she gets great recruits in coaches them up well they all kind of fit in to and buy into the culture that they’ve set up up there in Chicago great shot and you said a key word there Karen culture you think about great players do I want to go somewhere where it’s going to snow 2 three four months a year it’s the same sentiment you’ll hear from Mike Small the great coach at Illinois for the men you said development and we’re not seeing that as much at current golf with all the transfer portal and all the things it’s about developing these players and I think that’s something we got to watch and be very careful of but to your point Emily Fletcher stays in her lane goes about her business finds the little pieces of the puzzle to get the job done as we watch Tiffany Hang from Oregon at 16 wind is picked up at these players backs this is an accessible hole location land something at the front of the green and run something up just like that the Ducks solidly second right now so if you’re projecting ahead maybe a Stanford Oregon battle on Wednesday a lot will happen between now and then that would be a rematch from a few years ago at Greyhawk when Stanford got the better of then their conference rivals they’re all scattered about the country now in different conferences stanford in the ACC Oregon in the Big 10 so we head over to nine all right Patience Road second shot we’ve got a hole for her score to count for ASU no she doesn’t do it so Schultz Hansen will be the counting score and she’s got about a 35 footer for birdie at eight so it is gut check time they’re tied with Virginia for that eighth spot right now we make our way to the green at 18 with Katherine Park Mirabel Ting and Maria Jose Marine touched on it earlier maria Jose Marine top five finish a year ago has yet to shoot a round of overpar on her way to eight straight rounds at this golf course in the national championships at par or better katherine Park from USC the junior likely on her way to another top five finish as today’s salute to service day folds of honor 18th hole that American flag pin tended by an ROC service member from San Diego State University it is second lieutenant Julia Mawilli Air Force Operations Officer Trainee at the Hill Air Force Base in Utah our thanks to all those that have and continue to serve and protect our country now Park to finish up with birdie it’s really been such a great week for Park hitting the ball really well she should feel great coming into match play this is for Par just raced her birdie putt by we’re going to see a lot of very exciting holes come match play on this green it’s very narrow angled slightly so there’s just going to be a lot that can happen if matches come down the stretch here and as Amelia said that was for par so appreciate the cleanup there still another good week for Catherine Park and you build momentum heading into match play or if you’re Catherine and so many others when these coaches then go down the whole other avenue of matchups and pairings and data and stats or sometimes it’s just a gut feeling yep you saw the Arkansas team looking on from behind the green here at 18 maria Jose Marine looking to finish up with birdie and come the end of the season these players are sisters to each other they’ve been through so much the highs and the lows of a season battling adversity facing victory so this time of the year gets so special specifically when you have a player like Maria who could potentially do something very special by the end of the day [Applause] what a way to close it out for Maria Jose Marine now she has to sit and wait a little bit see what Kelly Sue and maybe a couple others do on these final few holes regardless the outcome really impressive performance by Maria her teammates know it they’ve been looking at their phones doing the math there’s Mike Adams longtime assistant coach for the Razerbacks will Maria join Maria FY and Stacy Lewis as other individual champs representing Arkansas now Mirabbel Ting for a birdie here at 18 mirabbel who really put up an incredible fight four birdies on this backside at one point just got it to a twoshot swing with Maria [Music] [Applause] make it five birdies on that back nine for Mirabel T karen I’m not sure I’ve seen a transformation of a young lady in women’s college golf in about an 18month span than we have with Mirabel Ting yeah she’s really grown into into a a player confident in her own abilities and within the team that she’s on well Kelly Sue will eventually find out she’s got work to do first though we’ll watch her T-shot at 16 130 yards just looking to land something on the front portion of this green and that’s did not sound good burko could she Oh no could she tell that Marine had made a birdie on the 18th cuz the 16th and 18th are really close i don’t believe so i think she just hit a really poor shot right there okay the early celebrations that might become a really big one for Maria Jose Marine and the Arkansas Razerbacks still slightly stunned by the shot we just saw from Kelly Sue all right this is Paula Scholes Hansen arizona State counting score this for par at the eighth big swinger oh my goodness so for the moment the Sundevils will drop to ninth at 16 over virginia might be in as we head over to Kelly Sue from the drop zone at 16 just about 10 yards closer much better shot here headed just a little left karen you brought up an interesting point maybe 70 80 yards from 16T to 18 green regardless though that was ill time by Kelly as we head over to nine yeah Red Quest has got to make this for par for South Carolina to have any chance and that chance just went to about not quite zero but looking like it tough finish for her she’s battled back injuries she has she’s a good She’s fought through them to come out the other side and if the Cavaliers according to their head coach Ria Scott are watching looking at the scores i think those facial expressions show you that they believe they maybe have done enough have they we’ll find out when we come back to Laccasta we are back in Carl’sbad California continuing coverage of the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Golf Championships and it is presented by Steel a lot of drama to this point still some to be decided over the next hour or so we’re going to crown an individual champion by Days End and Maria Jose Marine making it official three under 69 for the Arkansas sophomore in this final round she’s in at 12 under par kelly Sue from Stanford the closest remaining on the golf course but here her T-shot in the water at 16 and trying to say before to have any chance as well as she had played all day and all week long karen still taken aback by that T-shot well and and you feel like I mean you’re almost embarrassed by the shot cuz it’s right there in front of everybody all the people spectators are watching the other teams are there hanging out watching you definitely feel the intensity and speaking of watching Virginia the Cavaliers they’re done 15 over in the eighth spot watching Paula Schulles Hansen from Arizona State can she make a birdie here on their final hole got a good chance to sure does that’s clutch set it up perfect burko she listened to you it’s good TV is all it is it is good there that’s a gut check therefore be a great bounce back yeah Maria’s now probably getting caught up of who’s chasing me where do I stand she probably hasn’t quite found out that Kelly Seuss made double on 16 she’s seven under but the folks in Fagatville they might be getting closer to a third individual champion at the NCAA’s 69 on this final day of stroke play for Arkansas’s Maria Jose Marine she’s in at 12 under par waiting to see what a couple of Stanford Cardinal do over the last couple of holes she continues to wade she’s down with Amelia thank you Burko maria it was a 15-footer for birdie on the last for you to shoot three under today you had a lot of emotion after you made that putt why was that i mean uh that last putt um it was nerve-wracking i’m not going to lie um it was just I did know what was what was happening out there but I didn’t know at the same time uh I was like focused on my game but focused on what the what the others were doing i mean it meant it meant a lot doing that putt uh just for of course the score and for me personally um I think uh three under is a great round to finish with and I mean I’m just I have a mix of emotions but uh the ones that’s strongest is I’m super happy right now a threeunder is an excellent round on this course that was your eighth round underpar at Lacosta you talked about the difficulty of balancing emotion staying in the present versus not how do you manage that on the golf course when you’re trying to win an individual title i mean I think it’s it’s really hard um I just try to play hole by hole i know it was going to be a challenge today out there because of the mix of the mix of emotions the conditions playing in the afternoon is way different than playing in the morning so it was going to be a little more a little bit more windy and greens were going to be a little bit more um well like bumpy as I can tell um yeah just like try to breathe uh in every shot that I was going to make um um I trust my game and I trusted my game out there in every single shot so I knew I was capable of um doing a great round and well yes it was well it was a great round Maria you have a little bit more breathing to do as the rest of the groups finish up good round today go to you Burko the waiting game continues the game certainly stacked up this week for Maria Jose Marine jim as we head over to nine Schulz Hansen has to make this for birdie to tie Virginia for that eighth spot oh my that was as good as effort as you could do without the ball actually going in the hole it a It is that’s a tough finish with the Oie at the last hole but man it’s a heartbreaker for the Sunundevils started the season with only five players you could tell by the reaction how bad they wanted it so close but yet so far and Virginia is going to get that eigh spot gritty finish for them as as hard as it is for Arizona State right now to know that they’ve not made it they’re going to rebuild and they’re going to be so much more determined because of this knowing how close they were that they will work insanely hard to be back in it next time yeah about the emotions the positive the happy and the sad the ups and downs the ups and flows frank Kelly Sue now second shot see if she can finish strong tough 16th hole she had a really nice drive to bounce back after a difficult T- shot on that par three left it center of the fairway here whole location 28 paces on this is a good looking shot here well you do the math Jim she pretty much had to go 22 she did and she gave it a run but she’ll go back to that T-shot at 16 probably later this evening and say “What can I learn from it?” Was it the moment did the things get going quickly but you got to put that out of your mind cuz you got the tomorrow we got match play that was a putt for birdie to tie Virginia and Karen you talked about moving forward for Arizona State then we saw the jubilation from Virginia of all the hard work and effort from August through the winter to the spring as we send it down to Brenley Brook i’m here with Arizona State head coach Missy Farqu missy your girls gave it all they had what are the emotions like uh coming down the stretch with a chance to make match play you know I’m just so proud of them um we were right there i told him I go “It’s going to come down the last seven seven eight n be ready for a playoff.” I mean we were ready we knew what holes we were going to be on if we had to be in a playoff and um you know they fought fought to the finish i thought Paula had that putt she had a great putt she had a got a little unlucky in the last hole but um you know I’m just really proud of them and they’ve worked really hard they’ve you know behind the eightball being five all year and and they’ve just took that as a challenge and they’ve done a great job i mean it’s just like wow but they just we were so close we were right there and we thought you know we were right there so I’m just I’m really proud they’ve done a great job this year they’re a young team only five players on the roster but they’re all coming back you’ve been around this long enough what is a experience like this do for a young squad going into next year well last year we missed uh Monday by one shot and that needed to sting a little bit and it did and they learned from it so I have a feeling this probably hurts a little more because man watch out this group in in match play but um you know they have we were a young team for so long and we’re not young anymore they’re we’re wise and and uh and mature on and off the course and they just they’ve done everything I’ve asked but I it’s tough to end the season this way but man they’ve done a great job i’m really proud of them they see teams take on the uh identity of their coach uh and that’s resiliency i know this team will bounce back burko back to you we always talk about the players the emotions they deal with then when you hear from Missy Farqu at her alma mater won a national championship as a player an assistant coach and a head coach she’s all about the Sundevils and these young ladies and how about the women from Charlottesville the Virginia Cavaliers they’re moving on to match play on Tuesday morning late afternoon here in California on this Monday our coverage continues of the 2025 Division 1 Women’s Golf Championships and it is presented by AT&T the race for eight moving on to match play on Tuesday it just wrapped up a short time ago arizona State had a look for birdie on the ninth their laps by Paula Paula Schultz Hansen just burning the right edge so Virginia who posted almost an hour earlier at 15 over par they’re moving on they will take on Stanford tomorrow still though the individual title Jimmy mathematically not Maria Jose Marines yet but we’re getting really close yeah we are kelly Sue now for birdie just to get her to eight been a nice bounce back she’d have made that one so she’ll par 17 head to 18 fairly solid day today had a chance and and a solid week despite the T-shot at 16 a lot of positives as she was trying to catch this young lady Maria Jose Marine and if you’re Ann Walker the Stanford coach you would think Karen that’s the conversation tonight you’re playing good golf let’s keep going absolutely and and the focus now becomes all about the team and she did her job for the team that’s that’s the most important part i think that’s the toughest part Karen is it is an individual sport you’re trying to win the individual title but yet there’s the team aspect which is why we’re basically here is you know it’s that’s the tough part for these young players they’re learning that as they go i mean sometimes they’re roommates trying to fight out for a spot on the team and that’s that’s the tough juggle but you think about the players that were in the mix arkansas clearly in Florida State clearly in moving on the match play same with Stanford you didn’t have a head coach that had to say you need this but we need that kind of scenario let’s go to the green at 18 mayor Orton Gren from Stanford to finish up with Birdie one of the two extremely talented freshman for the Cardinal and you take a look at that lineup maya 69.96 scoring average a win and right now tied for 10th if she finishes there she will have nine top 10 finishes in all nine stroke play events for the ACC freshman of the year it’s pretty impressive slightly yeah take that all right how about Kiara Romero the standout sophomore from Oregon seven under on the day he’s got to look at birdie if it goes a smooth little 64 for the Ducks as they will move on as the two seed tomorrow and I think projecting ahead Oregon will go and they’re solid they have depth where Kiara takes them even though she’s worth just one point you know that mental aspect of putting her out maybe setting the tone i quite agree it’s all important in match play who you how you line up your players i think Derek’s pretty smart as a coach coach of Oregon Derek Ragley i think he he knows his players well and he knows how they respond being first or last is a is a mindset if you go out last you have to be very happy to be on the range on your own and it and it becomes a lonely spot as opposed to being with a team all around you indifferent first three days for Kiara bogeyfree 65 here on this Monday number nine here at nine is to finish up her round made it as an individual plays for K State solid week for her good young player that wasn’t her best effort k State had a really solid season this year yeah Steu Burke the job he’s done as head coach getting the Wildcats to this championship for the first time in the history of the program due in large part to Carla Bernaugh this season she has had the 2024 Power Cat Invitational champion and she was just getting things going didn’t look back from there earlier in 2025 the Mountain View Collegiate Championship she started making winning a habit and that’s a really good habit that we saw center stage five weeks ago at Augusta National winning the women’s amitter looking so solid and confident and comfortable in that moment and she continued that a couple weeks ago the Lexington Regional the champ there Carla Bernard a name I think we’re going to hear a lot from moving forward i’m excited to see what the future has for her and I think this is one of the beautiful things about covering the NCAA golf is that we get a real good insight into what’s coming up next the future starts now a lot still to be determined over the next few days originally designed by Dick Wilson and opening in 1965 Omni Laccasta’s North Course previously served as a home to notable PGA Tour events because for 30 years the resort hosted the Mercedes Championships originally called the Tournament of Champions that was from 1969 through 1998 then in 1999 Omni Laccasta hosted the inaugural WGC Accenture Matchplay Championship as well as six additional occasions and then in 2010 and 2012 the resort hosted the Kia Classic a popular LPGA Tour event karen you played in one of those jim you were here back in the day lacasta Golf in California it’s been a staple for six decades it sure has and the golf course has completely changed that’s for sure all right all right T at 18 Kelly Sue ready to play she’s been so good with this club all day sends it straight up in the air on a good line currently solo fourth for Kelly at seven under checking messages maybe a FaceTime because we’re getting a little bit closer to making it official and if she’s checking social media she may have seen a tweet from arguably the greatest Arkansas Razerback Stacy Lewis who on X put out “Welcome to the club Maria Jose Marine go Hogs.” And then you throw Maria FSY in there maria Jose Marine about to become the third Arkansas Razerback to win the women’s individual championship at the NCAA’s and she doesn’t have a care in the world Jim why wouldn’t you san Pedro now for par at 17 she’s at 8 under par she tried to make a run today real slow putt here i didn’t know it was that slow neither did she yeah and with that drop shot the math adds up in the favor
