KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (WGME) — Current and former professional athletes are swinging for birdies in Kennebunkport on Tuesday. It’s all a part of the Bush Family Golf Classic.

This is the largest annual fundraiser for Northern Light Mercy Hospital. Money raised will go to support families facing a medical crisis.

Specifically, Gary’s House, which is a home away from home for families with loved ones in a Portland-area hospital.

“There’s times when it’s just so tough and Gary’s House helps families when they need it the most, which is just such a worthy cause. It’s something that everyone here believes in wholeheartedly and it’s why we come back and do this every year,” said Robert Koch, the tournament chair.

The event is named in honor of longtime supporter President George H.W. Bush and his family.

This is the 30th year for the annual golf tournament fundraiser.

Since its founding, the two-day event has raised more than $4.5 million for Gary’s House.
