Rory McIlroy has been trimmed into 9/1 (from 11/1) with BoyleSports for this week’s Travelers Championship in Connecticut following his final round at the US Open on Sunday.

The Masters champion was out of sorts at Oakmont and has admitted struggles with motivation since he donned the green jacket for the first time, but his 67 to close out the third major of the season was the joint lowest of the day and has reignited confidence that a return to winning form is just around the corner.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Rory McIlroy’s post-Masters form has been slightly off-kilter, but confidence is creeping back in following his final round flourish at the US Open and punters expect him to be right in the hunt this week.”

World number 1 Scottie Scheffler (9/4) leads the betting for this week’s Travelers Championship, while the American trio of Collin Morikawa (12/1), Xander Schauffele (12/1) and Patrick Cantlay (18/1) are also commanding respect in the market.

Scot Robert MacIntyre is a 30/1 shot to go one better than his runner-up finish at the US Open, while Shane Lowry is 28/1 to bounce back from his missed cut at Oakmont as he ramps up preparation for next month’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush, the scene of his sole major victory to date.
