The Cobra DS-Adapt Long Drive head is built for speed.

Kris McCormack/GOLF

Cobra’s DS-Adapt LS Long Drive head is what happens when engineers stop asking, “should we?” and just go full send.

During a recent trip to Cobra HQ in Carlsbad, I had the chance to test the new DS-Adapt LS Long Drive clubhead… and let’s just say, I haven’t seen ball speeds like that since my twenties.

Now, I’m not delusional. I know I’m not Kyle Berkshire. But for a brief moment, specifically the moment where I looked down and saw ball speeds creeping toward 170 mph, I felt like I could at least borrow his driver. That’s what this club is: a specialized tool for players with speed, spin, and swing mechanics to handle it.

And make no mistake: this isn’t your everyday gamer. This head is a 6-degree lofted rocket launcher, co-developed with three-time World Long Drive champ Kyle Berkshire. It’s designed with pure speed in mind, everything from its shape to its center of gravity screams “go.”

Built for maximum speed

The DS-Adapt LS Long Drive head is a more compact version of the already low-spinning DS-Adapt LS. At 445cc, it retains the same volume, but the face is 2mm deeper and the profile is 3mm shorter front-to-back. Those small tweaks make a big difference in performance; specifically, more face flexion and a more forward CG to really juice your ball speed and cut spin.

I definitely noticed that speed in my testing, but here’s the tradeoff: I also saw apex heights around 50 feet and spin dipping to around 1400 RPMs. Great for long drive grids. Not so great for real-world golf. When you start hitting low bullets that barely stay in the air, reality sets in. I’m not Kyle. I’m not 25. And I don’t swing 150+ mph.

Confidence in the chaos

Where this head shines, beyond pure performance, is confidence. That larger face area gave me more of a target to swing at, and Cobra’s team told me that was a big part of what Berkshire wanted. When you’re swinging all-out, you don’t want to feel like you’re threading a needle. You want to feel like you’re hitting a billboard.

Despite my swing being a “couple” gears lower than Kyle’s, the head still felt incredibly stable. You can tell Cobra didn’t just slap a 6-degree loft sticker on a regular LS and call it a day. This thing was purpose built.

FutureFit33: The most adjustable hosel Cobra has ever made

Cobra’s new FUTUREFIT33 hosel system is an absolute game-changer. Debuting in the DS-Adapt family earlier this year, you can adjust loft and lie independently, giving you 33 unique fitting combinations. When you’re playing with extremes, like a 6-degree head and ludicrous speed, you need flexibility. FF33 delivers a hosel system that can keep up.

It’s a smart move for a head like this. You’ll want to dial in the setup precisely, especially since you’ll be going custom with your shafts… which is exactly what this release encourages. The head is sold on its own ($599) and comes with a headcover, wrench, and two additional FutureFit33 adapters, so you can build it around your own shaft setup. This thing was made for tinkerers, gear junkies, and speed freaks. (My people!)

A specialized weapon, not a daily driver (for me)

Look, this head isn’t for everyone. Hell, it’s not even for me… at least not on a Saturday morning at my local muni. But as a gearhead, a speed chaser, and someone who appreciates what Cobra is doing for the high-speed niche of our game, this was a blast to hit.

The innovative SMARTPAD design enables the face angle to remain square regardless of the setting.
MORE EXTREME AERO DESIGN
An improved aero shape features a higher crown peak, and a more streamlined shape with smoother curvatures for further drag reduction and maximized speed.
TOUR INSPIRED SHAPING
A refined clubhead shape features a reduced visual footprint at address that promotes workability and control.
NEW INTERNAL ADAPTIVE WEIGHTING SYSTEM
A re-engineered PWR-BRIDGE weight (in the 9.0 driver) is shaped with a slight curvature to position the CG lower and more forward to reduce spin for increased speed creation.
LARGER H.O.T. FACE INSERT
A larger forged face insert with H.O.T. face technology delivers improved face flex for more robust distance and ball speeds.
MAX WORKABILITY WITH ADDED FORGIVENESS
Adjustable heel and toe weights are complemented with a third back weight, allowing for additional adjustment to optimize spin & forgiveness.

Yes, I’ll be sticking with something closer to 10.5 degrees for my gamer. But testing the DS-Adapt LS Long Drive head reminded me of how fun this game can be when you push your limits — even if your launch monitor humbles you immediately.

If you’re a fast swinger, a long-drive competitor, or just a gear junkie with an itch for speed, this head deserves a test. Just make sure you’re bringing the swing speed, and the confidence, to handle it.
