Neanderthal Golf Classic 2025
[Music] well the Neanderthalss come from far and near 12 hairy legends with a thirst for beer every year in June they heed the call to Pike Lake boys let’s lose some balls they pack old socks and battered flasks ditch the razors dodge the tasks three days of golf in the pouring rain where every swing just causes pain new raise your clubs and swing like apes forget the score embrace mistakes we’re old we’re bold with backs that ache we rule the soggy lands of P lake we may not win we may not shave but we out drink storms and misbehave we’re the Neanderthals hear us cheer same old jokes year after year rain on the green rain on the cart rain in my beer and rain in my heart but do we quit not a chance my friend just duct tape the knees and swing again we eat like kings if kings ate ribs and chips and pie and chili with bits then it’s poker time with rules all bent someone always bets the rent raise your clubs and swing like gates our fashion sense the thighs all shapes cargo shorts and socks with stripes and thunderous laughs that shake the pines we may forget what hole we’re on never friends who now are gone we’re the Neanderthalss legends true with stories that somehow grew and grew there’s magic in this muddy ground in every belly laugh and sound a brotherhood not built on skill but on heart and stake and stubborn will so raise a toast to the wild and free to rain so joy and tea all glee to cars and night and food galore to friendship sold to still roar the neanderthalss we ain’t refined but we’ve got soul and snacks and time one more round one more beer long live the legends gather here [Music]
The hairy chested bozos are back at the Pike Lake Golf Centre near Clifford, Ontario for their annual trek where the men are men and the sheep are nervous. Of course, it was overcast and cool with a spot of rain or two in the first couple of days, but eventually the skies cleared and it got over 20C for Day 3. Yippee!
Agenda: Eat, Drink, Golf, Eat, Drink, Poker, Snack, Drink, Sleep. Repeat for 3 days. Same old thing for the last 35 years. Lester’s friend and Newbie Peter B. joined us and fit right in.
Of course, no Neanderthal outing would be complete without lots of card games of all descriptions like Loo, GUTS, 3/13, 7/27, Anaconda, Blackjack, Texas Holdem, etc. There was some objection to Anaconda being a ‘dumb game’, but overall, it was a great time! Dandy Dan Donaldson unfortunately could not make the trip, so the Poker pots [especially the GUTS pots] were somewhat miniscule, but hopefully he will return next year. Bonus: without Dandy the beverage cart girls were not afraid to visit us early and often.
Our accommodations, restaurant [with Sheree at the helm], golf course, and ease of getting there were all top drawer. We have already booked our return to Pike Lake for 2026.
