Katelyn Storbeck’s third trip to the Class AA State Golf Tournament resulted in her highest finish so far. The Blue Earth Area junior golfer finished in a two-way tie for 29th place.

Last year, as a sophomore, Storbeck finished in a four-way tie for 34th place. Three years ago, Storbeck, then an eighth grader, finished in 70th place.

The first day of the Class AA State Tournament was held on June 10. The 36-hole tournament, which was played at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, concluded the following day, June 11.

Storbeck began the second day of the tournament tied with a number of golfers for 40th place after shooting a 17-over-par score of 89.

Her opening round got off to a rough start when she played the first nine holes at 14-over -par for a score of 50. Storbeck played much better on the back nine of the first round. She birdied the 10th hole and had pars on hole Nos. 13, 14, 15 and finished the back nine with a 3-over-par score of 39.

The second day of the tournament saw Storbeck have one of the best rounds of the day with an 8-over-par score of 80.

She had a birdie and two pars on the front-nine and finished with a six-over-par score of 42.

Storbeck parred eight of the nine holes on the back-nine to end up with a 2-over-par 38. The only blemish on the last nine holes was on hole No. 13 where she recorded a double bogey.

Genevieve Birkland from Pequot Lakes was the State Medalist with a 4-over-par score of 148. Sophie Cook of Hawley finished four strokes behind Birkland with a 152 and Kaitlyn Burstad of Totino-Grace was third with a 156.

Detroit Lakes won the team portion of the tournament with a 70-over-par score of 646 to finish nine strokes ahead of runner-up Minnewaska Area who had a team score of 655.

The Section 2AA representative, Holy Family Catholic, finished tied for third with a score of 381.
