Taking My New Golf Swing to the Course | Playing 9 Holes at Las Colinas | Road to The Open – DL Golf Tips

In this episode of Chase The Open Championship at Royal Portrush series, I’m finally putting my completely rebuilt golf swing to the test — not on the range, but where it really matters: on the golf course.

Join me at the stunning Las Colinas Golf Club in Spain as I play 9 holes and evaluate how my new swing mechanics perform under real course pressure. If you’ve been following along with DL Golf Tips, you’ll know this journey has been about refining every detail of my golf game with one goal in mind — qualifying for the British Open at Royal Portrush

📌 In the previous video, I broke down the full golf swing overhaul in a golf lesson and showing what I’ve been working on — new top of the backswing position, and a better right arm in the downswing. You can watch that episode here: https://youtu.be/ow78iFWRRlY?si=_oK69YInFo87u63T

In this round, I’ll share my thoughts, struggles, and breakthroughs as I test the swing on tight fairways and tricky greens. Normally, it’s advised not to work on technical thoughts on the golf course, but this is a vital part of my process. You’ll get honest insights into what’s working, what’s not, and how it feels to take technical changes from the range to the course.

💡 What you’ll learn in this video:
– How to test a new golf swing on the course
– The challenges of swing changes during competitive prep
– Course management strategies under swing reconstruction
– Mental approach while adjusting your technique mid-round
– My honest review of how the swing held up under pressure

working on a swing change on the golf course oh no hit a rock no idea where that went after it hit the rock i can’t play golf and not have any technical feels [Music] that is just so bad like three putt that is called a brain fart folks [Music] so this is the chase the open series and if you watch my recent video where i got a golf lesson i’m going to go out today we’re in spain at last kenus and i’m going to play nine holes and just focus solely on my swing and see how we can perform did a little warm-up over there hit it really really nice but we all know how that goes does that transfer to the course okay and a couple of updates as well for chs open i got my uh tea time for the open qualifier which is brilliant i also got fully fitted for clubs so i’m a bit of a dilemma i’ve obviously got a golf lesson where i’m changing some things in my swing and my clubs might arrive just before the actual qualifier so it’s one of those ones leaving it last minute do i use the new swing do i use the new clubs but we’ll see but anyway come with me today let’s play nine holes at this beautiful golf course in lascalenus and we will see how that goes working on a swing change on the golf course a good start just so they know where i’m heading should be good for line bit short maybe don’t know is that a very good putt getting warm in it did you feel it all right we’ll take a four it’s tough hold that first one it’s tight avoid so you really have to thread it through here as i say the first couple of holes that don’t exactly break in right there’s two options i’m thinking go low and avoid make it bigger or go high we’ll see that would do nope just happy to get that that one through on the fairway that’s mad so this is six we need to rip it it’s going for a light of a ah short yeah all right this part of the game has been hit or miss well wasn’t a very good strike but it’s worked i could see if there you go so two holes in the swing actually feels okay that might be too tight we’ll see it’s just one of those holes you just want to rip it down cuz you’re taking up high i think it’s okay all right so this is an interesting one cuz this hole is 580 and i’ve 220 so it looks but 10 up high and i’m very close with that line quite lucky to be here but i’ve 220 over the water to the flag now my new clubs when they come i’d have a club for this so we’re going to try and work it with this and see the two iron the two iron’s about to say bye-bye when the new ones come oh no hit a rock no idea where that went after it hit the rock yeah that ball’s wrecked yeah that ball’s actually wrecked yeah yeah so i’ve actually got lucky cuz i i was probably 5 yards right to the green and i’ve ended up 40 yards right after hitting the rock but i’m dry so good break that’s it that is bad we’re on the green wall that’s definitely something that needs work those kind of pitch longer pitch shots also using a new ball cuz the fitter recommended i was using the x tailor made and this is the normal so feels we bit different around the greens okay we’ll knock this one it definitely does feel you can feel the difference in it it’s like springier or something we’ll take that after hitting that rock could have been worse oh maybe he wants to move that doesn’t trust me should be good if it misses that that bunker in the middle oh it might be in it i actually got lucky there running through the bunker left with this one maybe short okay dunson all right that was right on the number 290 for a 60° agree sweet good par three he’s i haven’t hit a two iron that high in years [Music] i think that’s okay cool the other speed yeah that would have been yeah that’s it take that that’s a tough par three you could run up a big one there 50 this hole it looks okay yeah it pitched up here and spun back that’s the thing of the bunker you get more you catch it right more spin you play opposite hand yeah i do like khanded it’s called so i grip it like a like a left-handed golfer would but from a putter it’s always done it and i can’t can’t not do it you can’t put the other way well i can but it’s not as confident jeez that was in two i hit that haven’t really missed i missed one green take that yep so six holes in uh say pretty good feels all right um you know talking about working on the golf swing on the course is something that i’ve always done and have to do i can’t play golf and not have any technical feels so uh some of you might agree with that or be in the same boat um but unfortunately my natural swing if i don’t think of anything is not good enough and i find that for a lot of people so having some feels uh out there on the course i think is absolutely fine provided it’s not 1 million things okay so uh yeah it’s hitting it good here we’re on the the seventh now and i’ll show you this hole is a pretty cool hole here and we’re one under only missed maybe one green which is always a good sign swing feels good like the warm-up was was epic as good as it has been in a long time so positive signs so this little green down here and the tea i’m going off actually back here is blind now the other thing i will say lascalinus is an unbelievable course this time of year it seems a lot of courses in the area will be doing like hollow ting um the course so scheduled maintenance so they have done that and they did point that out to me but actually it’s been very very good even still so 124 is actually kind of semi blind here with over the bush but downhill i’ll be playing about 115 so an easy easy wedge and this is what i couldn’t quite do with my other swing so this will be interesting it’s good for line that might be long no it’s good yeah i don’t know it’s be short hole but something cool about it yeah i know cuz other people just leave them and here’s one for people in the comments pin in or out what do you do i always have it out unless it’s for youtube but i know a lot of people just keep it in all the time so let me know that one it’ll be interesting oh went straight that way and my goodness that was quick that was bad there that is just so bad like three putt that is called a brain fart folks idiot that’s right at the bunker isn’t it don’t know all right 156 cuz i’ve made this whole part longer than it should be into the breeze and seven bit chunk yeah i got short little short i think this is the light that fills you with confidence just sandy yesh that’s terrible stay up no there’s boogie boogie that’s where you can just rack them up silly stuff just keep trusting this wee bit right it should be okay just right in those bunkers easier pitching wedge with this swing it’s bit right is it that’s okay nope well one over okay so that’s nine holes done one over working on the swing you can definitely feel it unraveling a little bit towards the end there sort of the open face and very sevy at the bottom which i did not like so but early on it was really good so i just need to keep doing it i’ll continue to play like this um working on this part of my my game and my swing and uh yeah stay tuned as well for the fitting video coming out which i think you’ll really really enjoy

  1. Looks like you're swinging it well. Have to say that it looks more like your old swing than the new one. Practice swings look like your lesson, but full swing not as much. So to answer your question, imo, use the swing that you have to think the least about for qualifying. Spend this time tightening up your short game rather than doing a drastic swing change. I would also most probably play the new clubs if I had a few practice sessions with them beforehand and I was hitting them solid. All the best.
