OAKMONT, Pa. — Will Rory McIlroy see the weekend at the U.S. Open? He’s got work to do to get there.
The top 60 players and ties will make the cut at Oakmont. Currently, that’s at +5 … and McIlroy is at +8, after a pair of double bogeys.

The number — +5 — is likely to move. If history is an indicator, the number is going to rise, not go lower. The last time the U.S. Open was played at Oakmont (2016), the cut line fell at +6.
Currently, the USGA is projecting the cut at +7, showing they have faith in Oakmont to do more damage.
Others in danger of missing the cut: Tony Finau, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas.
Scheffler has not missed a cut at a major since the 2022 PGA Championship.
