Currently atop the leaderboard is American golfer JJ Spaun at four under par.
Spaun has one win in his PGA Tour history and one win in the Korn Ferry Tour in his career history thus far. Spaun has never survived the cut before at the US Open, so for him to be leading after the first round is a fun early underdog story at the 2025 US Open Golf Championship.
Meanwhile, South African golfer Thriston Lawrence sits in second place at three under par with two others, Kim Si Woo and Im Sung-jae, at three under par. Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka is lurking just behind at one under par. Koepka has won the US Open Championship twice in two years, 2017 and 2018, so he’s a golfer to watch heading into the weekend.
Tied with Koepka for fifth is two-time major champion Jon Rahm, who has won one US Open Championship in his career, which came back in 2021. Rahm also won the Masters in 2023, so he’s another golfer who could make a move up the leaderboard this weekend, starting with Friday’s second round.
Tune in to NBC at 1:00 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon to catch the second round of the 2025 US Open Golf Championship live from the Oakmont Country Club.
