[Music] [Music] welcome to the disc and deals coverage of the chase card at the DGA Star City Classic sponsored by Disa My name is James Flegi one of the tournament directors course designer here at Bill Slooh Joined by my friend and the tournament director Mr Tony Odum What’s up Tony hey James Thanks for calling me your friend Yes sir We’re here today at Bill Slooh for the final round of this PDGA A tier and DGPTQ Series event hosted by the Lincoln Flying Disc Club Lincoln Nebraska Seen some pretty solid shooting from these guys throughout the weekend Yeah Oh been very hot Round one out here was looking pretty good Excited to see what they do for round three For sure Conditions have been great Not super hot Wind has been down Rain very minimal except for a brief spell on our lead and chase cards on day two to close out the day Otherwise it’s been solid Yeah I think that had some impact on how things are shaking out for who’s on lead and chase card for round three But another chance to move up the board and see who takes it down And a special shout out to Ace Run Pro for providing the drone coverage today Looking at our card got Mr Paul Omen from Evansville Indiana Shout out to Paul for his second place finish at the US Masters this year Great effort out there And Jared Christ from Witchah Kansas No Jared’s been up to Star City a handful of times Yeah great group of uh Kansas boys heading up here We love to see it Trevor Hastard from Lawrence Always a big Lawrence contingent coming up here as well Kirby Bame Aaron all those guys Bring in the squad We love it Speaking of Aaron there he is The 2023 winner of the Star City Classic Back for more Giving it a go in round three Definitely looking to make some more noise out here And we’re flying hole one Starting off the round with a 400 ft par three OB running along the left side OB running along the right As we work our way back into the woods you’re going to want the disc kind of fading left at the end avoiding these trees Kind of a tricky green to access but guys definitely looking for a birdie here to start their round Yeah it should be a pretty straightforward shot This is our MO Take the microphone from that guy First on the team Paul Omen Yeah Paul’s a really smooth player Understands that this is a pretty stock shot to start your round off with but it’s a little tight as you approach the green So we’ll see what he does A little high Pretty good bounce from that tree Kind of an obstructed look somewhere in C2 Jared Christ Going to blame all that cotton flying from the cottonwood trees Probably got in his eye It was all over the place this weekend That’s looking nice from Jared Very nice from Jared Okay Doesn’t get much better than that [Applause] Next on the tea Trevor Hastard [Applause] Yeah I think this is Trevor’s third time up here Probably believe so Jared might be in that same boat Also looking good from Trevor that inside line find himself somewhere around circle’s edge Little shrubs to deal with there Yeah I think we’ve seen in the past that ends up being a pretty clean line but we’ll see low and driving from Aaron Wow Doesn’t get the skip you tend to see there He intended to do that Yeah Well played And just a little left there Like Trevor’s got to work around a tree there Can’t quite get it to bend enough Grabbing the par Clean up by Aaron Trevor will do the same And Jared Christ grabbing the lone birdie on one with the perfect T- shot Little bit of dja vu Watch round one Jordan Spiler wasn’t too far too far off of that [Music] Let’s have another look at this Jared Chris drive here Looked great right out of the hand in the gap Perfect ground play Great combination of both driving and sweeping at the same time with that shot Even using the course features to slow it down at the very end there Very nice That brings us to hole two the hardest hole in the course 71 ft par 5 Coming out of this gap going to want to be pushing left It’s about 375 to that blue T that we just flew over OB spanning the entire left side of the fairway Dense rough on the right Going to have to navigate these trees later on in the hole And as we approach the green pretty low ceiling Lots of trees in C1 and C2 Pretty heavily guarded basket Delicate approach coming into the green Jared taking what I I think is the best line to really get good distance out of here And it’s a flex forehand line Just burns it over a little too much But if you can control that shot that’s the way to get out of the tunnel move left and then come back into prime position on the right a little bit That’s a nice from Paul Really great control Kind of corrected from his whole one drive Keeping it lower driving it more Yeah I like that from Trevor Pushing a little more left It’s going to open up the second shot a little bit Certainly takes your mind off it to throw something more stable and just power it straight through that gap Probably seed some distance but still a good spot to be Aaron keeping that low the whole way Still in a good spot though Jared pushing that just a little far Sneaking OB Not the result you want when you’re really just trying to lay it up for position on your next shot You can see on this right hand side of the fairway uh being more right off the T-OT kind of forces you to swing it from left to right a little bit more in the next shot where where Trevor sitting a little more options as far as flight path goes But either way if you’re out of the gap and in the open you’re generally like that on two Aaron’s going to be in a good spot He’s right up by the white pad there So good spot to attack for his birdie still Whoever puts it right up there by Aaron I’ll take the long drive Competition win here See if he can bust out another big one Looks good out of the hand Hold on What a shot That’s great positioning to attack for the birdie there Absolutely Seems like Jared’s just trying to limit the damage here That’ll be testing that wood line a bit Yeah finding himself in some dense rough there might be able to still throw a little patent pending shot out of there but it’s going to be tricky Yeah Aaron a little little pinched off by the shrubs there unfortunately Really interesting choice to go forehand there We know he can throw backhand Obviously the OB comes into play on the left side but yeah nice placement shot there Perfectly set up for par getting past that first one Fading out a little bit Yeah Trevor will have a obstructed look from C2 for birdie For a hold that’s playing a full stroke over par it’s not a bad spot to be after three shots And that flips up nicely for Paul Well within C1 Jared really really drove into that rough but finds quite the hole there Wow It was a surprising out from there Most of the time you’re just playing horizontal golf Oh a nice floaty forehand run there Great effort That’ll leave Trevor a tap in for par grabbing the birdie Paul Omen That was a quiet birdie That was a quiet birdie It’s well executed throughout the hole Yeah very clean To all the Sunday Leagues folks that’s uh that’s what you need to do be a top tier Masters player in the world That helps too So Jared grabbing his double and Trevor tapping in for par [Music] That’s going to bring us into hole three 380 ft Guys probably looking to go over this eastern red cedar to the right Taking the high route into this basket on an elevated green Beautiful flowers in the front of that box Can be tough to stick one close to the pin on this generally leaving a putt somewhere around 20 ft or so at minimum That’s what you say A lot of guys really just looking to take the trees out of play here All just going right over the top Finds the natural gap that kind of leads itself Le wide open putt from there Trevor flexing his shot out a little bit Looking closer to the basket Yeah Yeah Similar distance Seen two lower drives out of Aaron here He’s going to look to go a lot higher on this shot Nicely done Not having an obstructed putt on this hole is uh pretty big win So often we see guys hit some of those guardian trees in front of the green and with the flex forehand Not too often you see this on three Looks like didn’t quite turn enough for him Fading out of some trees to deal with on that uphill putt there Just saw a little forehand bid towards the basket Same connect here and just laying up conceding Strong effort by Aaron Just couldn’t quite connect there Have quite the comebacker from deepc one though Now this green typically plays a little bit more difficult because it’s on the mound Um a little bit more open area of the core so we typically see some wind too But Paul connects for his birdie Paul making it look easy He recognizes this is a top 10 day out at Beiel Slooh Two down through three You’re going to take that every time as Aaron hits the nice comeback putt for par See a couple tapins here from Hastard and Chris You’ll notice uh Jared’s got a retriever in his bag Come to visit us out here in Lincoln Nebraska Bill Sloo make sure you bring one [Music] and hole four brings us into the woods Looking at 545 ft coming out of that little tunnel there Going to want to be pushing from right to left and fading back right at the end of this shot ideally Second shot kind of a left gap right gap Lots of trees to deal with on your way to this terrace green Green really slopes off behind the basket so it’s going to play fast if you’re trying to land up top Going to see a lot of guys trying to crash into the wall and take a deep C1 putt That’s standing up nicely for Paul If he misses the glove tree and he does Yeah Not the not the traditional gap going to the right of that tree But that looked really nice That should stay in But and this is the play to really get the distance off the tea That’s great Pushing that right hand side I think I think the right hand side on the second shot is a bit more open and workable from over there like that play from Aaron I would absolutely agree with that If you have the select forehand shot it works well Jared just couldn’t get his turned over Finds himself in the rough on the right Shout out to our spotter Kip putting in work on the day there Kip is the man Oh just crosses over that OB rope Jared really pushed through that cedar Rare that that happens Thing is this isn’t a long par4 just a really tricky one So he still has a chance to get up and down Ball flexing one through Smashing up against that wall Oh bad bounce It’s running over to the right side of the fairway Yeah Aaron has a great look from here Turns it a little bit grabs a tree Yeah he’s probably looking at about 40 ft or so from there Oh man Once again Jared using the course infrastructure Let’s say he’s he must be a fan of those boxes Well played This hole not coming easy for Trevor today Aaron giving it a bid When you’re down there that walkway can certainly get in the way a little bit Not getting the push that you really want when you especially when you’re putting uphill almost 10 ft Nice puff from Paul And another birdie Basket wasn’t even elevated for him there Aaron gets his par as we see Trevor tap in here Trevor is going to want to put this one in the back of his mind right away And with Jared picking up the par that’s going to bring us into hole five [Music] Mhm [Music] And another challenging one here on five Coming down this gap off the tea Fairway drops down a little bit Going to want to be pushing forward and slightly to the right Bending more so right through here as you approach the green on the second shot Slooh wrapping in front of the basket there OB right side and deep of the basket there Tricky green to access on the second Really need to be in a good position off the tee to go for that green Yeah this is a hole that’s going to make you think about your next shot Depending on where your driver lands that upshot can be really touchy It’s looking nice from Paul Low backhand shot really pushes forward a lot more and fortunate to grab a tree That would have been in a pretty good spot for Aaron Loa pushing similar spot to Heb Yeah the flex shot really helps you get some of that distance but you don’t want to move left too far Yeah that was a great shot by Trevor Puts him up by Paul Really more in that proper pathway to get to the the basket Yeah as you can see Jared and Aaron not really going to have a whole lot to work with here other than trying to pitch up for the pars Yeah another hole that plays two/3 of a stroke over par These guys are smart enough to know that sometimes you just got to limit the damage and Aaron unfortunate to catch that tree Paul trying to round the corner sneak it in and perfectly played Very touchy shot throwing that line there Leave himself with about 15 for birdie He really only got 40 ft or so from the front edge of the slooh to Obi long at the basket So and the ground plays fast It is very fast up here from that running deep and OB Like that angle Yeah great shot from Aaron You didn’t even have to say it James Oh that could be running long here There we go Think that was checking up for him but we’re putting right back at the Slooh Connects Good bar save from going OB Unfortunately just a bit right there Paul makes it four through five Kind of shredding right now Tony Uh yeah I I think the course record is six down and uh through five Paul’s at four It’s a very hot start Plays like Jared there really attack you mentally trying to play the layup game play it smart get yourself in some trouble and end up walking away with a red number unfortunately Hopefully I can bounce back from that in flying six 253 ft par three I have OB on the right side there shouldn’t really come into play unless you grab an early train kick but more importantly OB running the left side as you can see the slooh kind of a difficult little hole lots of trees to miss off the tea you got to pick your gap be mindful of that speed control as it comes into the green yeah this is certainly one where you Have to shape a disc a little bit too Paul just clears the wall on that tree Checks up very nicely Wow that was buttery smooth [Music] Oh I think you’re safe Saved by the wall and hitting trees The wall finding himself a birdie Look This is a hole that we see a lot of forehand throwers on to avoid the left side finish And we’ve just seen the backhand’s getting it done right now Great backhand You’re safe And confirm he’s safe That’s going to be fine Doesn’t quite get the flex that he’s looking for I’d imagine but going to have going to have himself a look from just outside the circle Right back at the Slooh though Little right gets him out Aaron connects The birdie train keeps on rolling for Paul Omen Mind-blowing how easy he’s making this course look right now And we know distance isn’t the the real challenge out here for the most part It’s about smooth executing your shots through some tight tunnels and spaces Paul’s doing it well today [Music] Moving on to hole 7 275 ft down this tunnel here Definitely don’t want to hit left or right and find yourself in a a bad spot if you do crossing this OB tributary stream here into the green Going to have the slooh wrapping around on the backside Really all just about hitting this gap off the tea leaving yourself Yeah you certainly don’t want to come in too hot This green tends to be a little faster Paul catching that tree kicking left Might not be a great position he’s going to find himself in on his next shot there I’m kind of surprised to see that stay in bounce Usually moving that fast kicking towards that direction you see a lot of them filter into that OB area Oh Trevor just hits that late tree right before you cross Unfortunately that was looking really good if it just missed that tree I almost thought we were seeing a new line open up there for a second Not a bad spot Leave himself a little tester there probably a hair longer than he would like Got to get crafty here And simply just pitching out Have a long look for a par save there Oh he even came to rest on that down slope Let’s go Good run from back there All looking to keep the scorecard clean here Just touching the front side of the chains Bely that stops Oh [Music] grabs the comebacker Even though at only 275 ft uh the strokes can stack up quickly on seven as he grabs the comebacker for par And still got a clean scorecard there One birdie six pars It’s not a bad start out here Yeah averaging 3/4 of a stroke over par for the card there That’s uh that hole showed its teeth And hole eight brings us back into the open for a few holes 373 ft Everything outside of the green playing as hazard You’ll see the hazard line running from the bricks to the OB left there and from the bricks to OB long Going to want to land something up top If you’re down below that wall going to be putting for a par save up at a pretty steep angle This should be playing all right for heave as long as it sticks Oh just pushing a little long It’s going to be a difficult putt coming back at that basket for Aaron looking at the hazard behind the basket That’s already tough trying to putt back at that knowing he can go over the wall but then he’s got a he’s already got an OB stroke there that he wants to prevent further damage Paul taking the wide route around that big cottonwood A great shot Nice shot And Paul makes you think he’s a smooth controlled player Then he makes you think he’s a power player You never know what to expect from this guy Yeah taking that high route kind of limiting the skip when the disc comes to rest on the green I think he’s just a smart player Travers checks up Doesn’t get quite the skip Stays in bounds but definitely still got a tricky putt there Looking pretty good by Jared Stay on top It does Woo very nice Leave him with the birdie putt Yeah this can be a nervy one See that flag moving a little bit and he bits it with the fist bump Still rolling clean Great putt Just a hair low there stays up Trevor will collect his par there Just sneaking it over the edge Pauling back to getting birdies He missed it for one hole Didn’t take long to uh to want that back Good to see Jared get back in the card with another birdie after a strong hole one and then some hiccups since Trevor taps in for his par And that brings us into the final hole of the front nine 431 ft I have this mando tree on the right Need to stay to the left of that as you’re moving down the fairway Basket up here on the terrace green Everything’s sloping down to the left There is OB running left once you get over that little hill there Got to be mindful of angle control once again on this T-shot If it’s fading out at the end they can tend to run downhill trickling towards that OB line Is that looking great from Paul fading out a bit Fading out more than I thought The deep C2 look going uphill Just didn’t have quite the pace that you would have expected from a disc like that I will say it’s a touchier shot trying to control that angle the whole way If you have the power to go forhanded love it Wow that’s a great shot by Jared Yeah excellent Up even with the basket about 18 ft Good Iron really never gets that over Not getting the turn Sit Yep Find ZB left down there Testing that mando tree Just dropping in front of it That is a tough shot to stretch out on there with the penalty stroke but it almost ends up being one in and of itself by finishing where he ended up Aaron just grabbing that Regal Prince Oak there [Music] Oh almost dropping it in from deep Paul Omen connecting Loves those birdies Deep C2 So casual about it too Aaron cleans up the bogey after the OB drive Strong putt by Jared Finishes the back nine Strong excuse me front nine We’ve got a full nine to go Trevor getting in for bogey there And that’s going to do it for our front n coverage after we have another look at this Paul Omen putt Perfect Paul Omen six down through nine here at Star City Seven birdies on the front nine That lone bogey on seven sitting very good Thank you for everyone joining us for the front nine here at the
