a bit. But I do start thinking
to myself it was a ladies only
edition of Good Morning Football last week. Kyle got some much
deserved time down. But Kyle,
you know when the Aaron Rodgers news sort of hits, you start to
think to yourself like What’s
Kyle Brandt doing? Like, you probably were so up for today.
First bite of the apple man.
What do you make of the move that we candidly speculated was
going to happen for a while?
Well, thank you for the question. And I did enjoy the
shows last week very much. At
the end of the week, I was watching at home. The Rodgers
news landed oddly for a couple
different reasons. One, if you were paying attention online,
the Rodgers news broke. Maybe
the two most powerful people in the world were having a slap
fight online, and the Rodgers
thing was the suicide to it. But second, also, I wasn’t
surprised. I don’t think anyone
was surprised. No one was wondering. We all knew this was
going to happen eventually. He
was never going to be viable to go with any of their options. So
it wasn’t this bombshell. It was
more of a finally than a surprise. And I remember when I
heard the news, when it was
officially happening, I just said, okay, the Steelers are now
on the clock for one day in
January of 2026, when we’ll see if this is worth it. And my
point is they’re going to make
the playoffs with Rodgers. I think they would have made the
playoffs without Rodgers. They
always make the playoffs. The question will be, will they win
a playoff game with Rodgers. Not
even a Super Bowl? This is a huge success. If Rodgers and the
Steelers win a wild card game,
because it’s wildly different than what we’re looking at right
here, which is Rodgers on the
Jets. Totally different. Remember, Steelers fans
basically have a trust fund. If
you grew up a Steelers fan, you were a rich, nepo baby of a
sports fan. You had a great
Jets. Fans are standing around a barrel fire with fingerless
gloves trying to stay warm. It’s
a totally different thing. So the Steelers fans expect they’re
not impressed with Rodgers like
the Jets fans were. They won’t be impressed if you really get
to the playoffs like the Jets
fans would have been. I put it this way nine and eight without
a wild card win for the Steelers
is just the same as five and 12 for the Jets. It’s nothing.
Nothing. You have to win in the
playoffs or it’s totally forgotten. Mason Rudolph could
have gotten the Steelers to the
playoffs. So Aaron Rodgers is this first ballot Hall of Fame
Messiah. That’s only half true.
This will be all about one day in January of 2026. And whether
Rodgers finally delivers a
playoff win. If he doesn’t, then it’s completely pointless. And
anybody could have done this for
Pittsburgh. You’re absolutely correct, Kyle. That’s the thing.
That’s the reason why they
brought him here. They brought him to Pittsburgh to win in the
playoffs. Mike Tomlin has never
had an issue going to the playoffs. We know that that’s
been highly spoken about. But
you brought up mason Rudolph. Let’s talk about Mason Rudolph
and some of the other guys that
Mike Tomlin has had at the quarterback position. He’s had
Mitch Trubisky. He’s had Mason
Rudolph. He had Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. He had. And
now Kenny Pickett. He had Kenny
Pickett in there. None of those guys are even remotely Aaron
Rodgers. Maybe we can talk about
Russell Wilson back in the day. But Russell Wilson of today and
what he had last year is not of
the stature Aaron Rodgers this guy can still play. And I know
whenever we talk about Aaron
Rodgers we talk about the old times when he was that guy he
was winning. He won a Super
Bowl. All those things. This guy can still sling it. Don’t forget
the fact that this dude still
went out there and went 28 and 11 last year, 28 touchdowns, 11
turnovers. Let’s not talk. Let’s
not forget about the fact that this dude came off of an
Achilles tear and he still found
a way, at the age of 40 years old, to come out there and take
care of business. Let’s talk
about the fact that this dude went out there and put up more
touchdowns than the majority of
the rest of the NFL quarterbacks in this league. I think he was
the sixth best quarterback
overall in terms of statistics, in terms of touchdowns. So this
is somebody who’s coming in not
only who is legendary, not only somebody who is an absolute
beast at the position, but
somebody who can still sling the rock. And now you put him on a
team that has a solid offensive
line. Now you put him on a team that has a solid defense, a team
that has always had an
established running game, and now he has a DK Metcalf, now he
has a Calvin Austin and Robert
Woods. He has a trifecta of receivers out there that he can
distribute the ball out to.
Because last year everybody talks about just his second half
of the season. Well, it wasn’t
just about when Davante Adams got there prior to that, he was
throwing the ball to Garrett
Wilson, who was trying to get his legs underneath him like
Bambi. And then Davante Adams
comes on and they start getting in sync. He has a trifecta of
receivers. He has a solid
O-line, has a solid defense. This is what Pittsburg needs to
get the job done. We all knew it
was going to be happening, but now it’s official. Oh well. I
just don’t know if the Steelers
are going to change the entire offense for Rodgers, right? He
wants to have complete control.
So I just don’t know. It’s hard for me to root for the Steelers
now. Oh I just I can’t root for
Rodgers. So it’s hard for me. So we’ll see what happens I think
David you make a really good
point though about changing this offense. And Kyle, I don’t know
if you were charting every
single game throughout the course of the season. We just
ran a graphic. The more I
watched the Jets with Aaron Rodgers, the more I see him in a
shotgun with Arthur Smith.
There’s a heavy run game. It’s a lot of under center. Like, is
this even a good fit? I know
it’s rose colored glasses from listening to my guy Isaiah,
which is a little surprising
here. But Kyle, are you buying this fit? I listen we could just
copy and paste this
conversation. When he joined the Jets and we were all hyping
their wide receivers and their
running back, and we were so thrilled about the weapons. I
like the fit. Sure he’s Rodgers.
He’s going to find a way to fit. I think it’s interesting that I
always like when people outside
the football world come and talk about Rodgers especially. So
David, you were mentioned you
it’s hard for you to root for him. You can’t root for him. Do
tell. Tell us why we love him.
Listen, I mean, I lived in New York for 25 years, and if I was
going to root for a suffering
team, it would be the New York Jets. So I saw what happened.
Many of my friends are close
Jets fans, and I just listen. Here’s the thing. I think this
year everything is going against
him. Tomlin everything is on the line. I think they’re sort of
playing with house money. They
have nothing to lose. So as much as I’m rooting against them, I
think it might be their year
too. Okay. So what were what were some of the things that you
guys liked as Jets fans that you
guys liked about Aaron Rodgers? And then where did he fall short
in your opinion as as a Jets
fan? Well, first of all, there’s nothing good about being a Jets
fan. Okay. There you go. You
know, it was a lot of promise. It was a lot of hope and none of
it was delivered. Yeah. Do you
think a lot of that fell on Aaron Rodgers shoulders? Do you
think just collectively with the
head coaching situation and the team as it kind of collapsed,
where do you think that that
blame whatever that that blame kind of lies in regards to that.
Because Aaron Rodgers is still
Aaron. He tore his Achilles obviously in game one, came back
the next year. It was still able
to put up, you know really relatively good numbers for him.
Well at some point you have to
have a burden, some of the responsibility. And that was
just not the narrative that was
coming out of the Jets drive buzzed. Welcome back to
Good Morning Football. You saw
the news. You know the news. Aaron Rodgers is a Pittsburgh
Steeler. It’s surreal, but it is
happening. And for that we go to a perspective of a former
Steeler and a current friend of
the show. It’s Willie Colon. Willie what’s up man. You got
us. I’m good. How’s everything?
What’s going on Kyle? It’s great to see you, as always. You’ve
been in this very room with me
in this chair, and we talked a few weeks ago. Rodgers.
Steelers. Steelers. Rodgers. It
was all just kind of guessing and thinking it’s real. Now he
signs he’s going to be in the
jersey number eight. As a former Steeler how do you feel about
it. Well I’m glad it’s over one
I didn’t want this thing to carry on into training camp
because I felt it was going to
be a distraction. But if you’re Steeler fan, you have two
choices. A you can be rigid and
frustrated that you have a 41 year old quarterback who comes
with baggage and seems to kind
of, you know, deal with some injuries that, you know, you’re
not getting the full Aaron
Rodgers of what you expected when he was in green Bay
uniform. However, if you’re
going to be aggressively optimistic, like I’m going to
be, you’re getting a 41 year old
quarterback who has a chip on his shoulder. A guy last year
from an individual standpoint
had comparable stats to Josh Allen. Both threw for over 3000
3000 yards. Both had 28
touchdowns. Yes Aaron Rodgers had 11 interceptions. Josh Allen
had six interceptions and had an
MVP type season season. Nevertheless, man, if I’m the
Steelers right now, I’m treating
Aaron Rodgers like a hired mercenary. Like an assassin,
like John Wick. I don’t need you
to reset the culture. I need you to come in, win football games
and lay your opponent down and
go home. That’s what I’m expecting out of you. So
hopefully he can make that
happen. Willie, look, you had a front row seat for Rodgers last
season. And by the way, I got a
ton of friends and family that are in that New York area. I
don’t know if it’s cash or
credit card that you accept for your co-pays, because on the
post-game shows, you and Bart
Scott obviously got to decompress a lot of losses for
this team, but there was an
evolution in Rodgers play last year. What did you see as you
watched every single snap that
sort of showcased like a morphed ability for him to be kind of
that old school Aaron Rodgers?
Well, if I was to put it in simple terms and I’m going to
break it down in this regard, it
goes the good, the bad and the ugly. The good is when he got to
training camp, he looked hungry
and ready. He seemed to be in sync with Garrett Wilson. They
had weapons on the offense Tyler
Conklin, Breece Hall, Mike Williams, the offensive line
seeing veteran ready, meaning
they had Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses capping that offensive
line. And for there was a for a
second. There was a theme in training camp that really that I
think people brought into it
that the Jets were all in and Aaron Rodgers was ready to go,
even though he had that
catastrophic injury. Now the bad is they weren’t ready. I felt
Aaron should have played in the
first, should have played in the preseason. They weren’t ready
for week one against the 40
Niners and they seen that and clunky at times. And the
offensive line aged bad. You
couldn’t find Breece Hall on tape and so different things
starting to look kind of like,
oh man, maybe we kind of overhyped the Jets. And then it
kind of spiraled and went
downhill. I think the ugly overall is and Kyle, maybe you
guys can back me up on this one
day. There’s going to be a documentary on the conversation
Aaron Rodgers and Woody Johnson
had the night before firing Robert Saleh, because that was
the dark cloud. And then what
led to that was Davante Adams was him, and Aaron didn’t have
the connection. We thought they
were going to have Garrett Wilson and Aaron Rodgers seemed
clunky and out of sync. This
offensive line aged and got hurt like I said earlier. And then
Jeff Ulbrich was handed the keys
to a team that was really struggling, and the car blew up
because of the defense. The
defense was supposed to be that kind of anchor for this team,
and they couldn’t stop the run.
Teams were averaging over 120 plus yards on the ground on
them, and they were struggling
to get to the quarterback. And so as the season went along,
man, after week eight, this team
looked out of hope. They lacked faith and fight and it was all
over. And so that was kind of
the evolution of the season. And like I said, from an individual
standpoint, Aaron Rodgers looked
like a top ten quarterback. But as a team, they just they
underperformed big time. My guy
Willie. Good to see you big dog. Oh yeah man. Hey we just talked
about it a little bit earlier
about what Mike Tomlin has had at the quarterback position over
the years. Right. The Kenny
Pickett, the Russell Wilson Justin Fields Mason Rudolph
Mitch Trubisky. He hasn’t had a
lot at that position. At least that’s been constant and
consistent. Now you talk about
in this particular division right. You got you got Joe
Burrow right. Ice in his veins.
You got Lamar Jackson. You know you start talking about overall
in the conference. Okay. You you
got you got the man. You know Josh Allen himself. When you
talk about Aaron Rodgers coming
into that building now you’ve been in there. Does that close
the gap in regards to the AFC
picture at the quarterback position. And how much does that
help Mike Tomlin at this as a
head coach. Well no it doesn’t close the gap but it narrows it.
And you got to understand for
the second straight year the Steelers have a brutal back end
of the season. And I think
what’s expected considering that Steelers have eight straight
games and six out of those eight
games, those teams are expected to be I think ten plus 110 plus
win teams. They need a
quarterback to compete and fight against those other elite
quarterbacks. They didn’t have
that last year, especially with Russell Wilson. So they’re
expecting Aaron Rodgers, even at
his ripe age of 41, to go on the field and do the damn thing
because of his expertise and
what his resume looks like now, can he get that done? And I
think that’s what Mike Tomlin is
counting on, because I think last year, as much as we want to
discount this Steeler offense,
it was really the Steelers defense that struggled. And so
they one way you can help a
struggling defense is having a quarterback that can put up
numbers and an offense that can
kind of balance out the team. And I think that’s what Mike
Tomlin is expecting. Willie Dave
Chang here. Big fan. Listen, as a as a fan, I know nothing
really about the X’s and O’s of
the sport. But I do understand culture and building an
organization. And that word gets
thrown around a lot in sports. How important is it in the
Steelers locker room, and do you
think Tomlin will have any issues with Rodgers. You know I
like the combination of Aaron
and Mike. And I think most people are like worried about
the personality clashes. And I’m
not because they are bound by faith. And I think when you talk
about them right now and it’s
about time and pressure, they’re both in that category.
Considering Aaron Rodgers 41
years old, this is his final act. Mike Tomlin hasn’t won a
playoff game since 2016. One
thing is going to be interesting because we understand Mike
Tomlin knows how to handle,
knows how to handle complex personalities. The issue right
now is how does Arthur Smith and
Aaron Rodgers get along? Because we know Aaron Rodgers likes
freedom at the line of
scrimmage. We know he likes his veteran receivers to adjust on
the fly. How much leeway will he
get? I’m not worried about Mike Tomlin and Aaron Rodgers. I
think both guys respect each
other and if Aaron honestly didn’t like Mike Tomlin, if they
were doing anything there, he
wouldn’t be a Pittsburgh Steeler. Right now, I’m more
worried about what does Arthur
Smith and Aaron Rodgers look like, and how does that kind of
manifest into hopefully a good
relationship where we can see Aaron Rodgers grow within the
offense and Arthur Smith and his
offense continue to thrive? Do you think that Arthur Smith is
happy I’m sorry about that. No.
Go ahead. Ask your follow up. That’s a good question. No. Do
you think Arthur Smith is happy
that he’s got Rodgers? I think right now he’s happy that he has
a consistent guy. I think he has
a guy he doesn’t have to question. I think there was a
lot of rumblings about his
relationship. And Russell Wilson, I think a lot of people
felt like even when Josh excuse
me, Justin Fields at quarterback, he was treated with
kid gloves. I think when you
have Aaron Rodgers, you can really open up the offense and
trust that Aaron once again can
beat Aaron Rodgers. There’s going to be points in this
season where you’re going to
need him to put on the Cape. And I think you have a guy because
of his resume. And what he’s
done in this league has the ability to do that. I think once
Aaron Rodgers, if he’s able to
remain healthy and continue to grow with the weapons around him
and a good offensive line and a
defense to back him, I think Arthur Smith is going to
genuinely say, hey man, I trust
who you are and I trust what you do. Let’s go get this thing for
the better. Good. And that’s
winning football games. Willie, I think Steelers fans are
fascinating right now because
whereas a couple of years ago, Jets fans felt like they fell to
their knees and wept tears of
joy that Rodgers chose them. Steelers fans are kind of like,
I don’t know, show me something
like to get into their heads right now because I think
there’s a huge faction of them
that actually didn’t want Rodgers or is at best kind of
apathetic about it. Where do you
think they’re at mentally right now, knowing that fan base as
well as you do? I think they I
think they’re frustrated from this standpoint. They don’t have
a quarterback for the future.
And I think they only have Aaron Rodgers for the year. So they’re
kind of like, yeah, we got this
aging great quarterback, but we don’t have somebody we can fall
in love with for years to come.
But I would tell Aaron Rodgers this flat out if you if the
Steeler fans will love you if
you give them your heart. Bottom line, you got to show up and
show the grit and fight and
respect the city for all it stands for. There’s rich history
there, rich history there. You
see the six Super Bowl trophies. You know, this fan base lives
and dies with the Pittsburgh
Steelers and its culture. One of the things I thought Aaron
Rodgers did a really good job
was last year when he when he arrived in New York, when he
first arrived in New York, he
went to all the basketball games. He was all over New York
City. He was eating a pizza,
shaking hands, kissing babies. I would tell him to do the same
thing in Pittsburgh, because I
think a lot of people are afraid that if things don’t go right
with Aaron Rodgers, that there
may be a chance that he may become toxic, and that the
headlines and things may kind of
spiral out of control. And so if I’m Aaron Rodgers, do the same
thing he did in New York show
up, shake hands, kiss babies, have a mini sandwich, slap down
an Iowa City, go to a game. You
know, take care of the terrible towel, treat it with respect,
and really immerse himself into
the Pittsburgh culture. And I think he’ll be fine. And then go
win some football games for the
Steelers. And they will love him. Like I said, once again,
they will love you if you give
them your heart. Bottom line, by the way, it is a little bit
easier to show up to the garden
when the Knicks are playing some good basketball. So that that
does help that transition. For
Rodgers. That’s a better ticket at this point. You had
mentioned, hey, for Steelers
fans, that quarterback of the future, it looked like last year
maybe they had that guy in
Justin Fields. He now goes to Rodgers former team with the
Jets. They got a new head coach.
And Aaron Glenn you know this team. You’re doing this postgame
shows. You’re watching every
single snap. How much of an uphill battle is this for Aaron
Glenn? It’s tough. It’s tough
because I think he’s going into the building trying to set high
expectations. When you’re
dealing with a locker room, who really expected that with Aaron
Rodgers and the pieces they were
able to bring in that they want to reset and change the culture,
and the Jets are going to be
received in a different light. That never happened. If
anything, it got worse and it
got ugly. And so I think he really has to kind of shock life
back into this locker room. And
these young guys are like, hey man, we can do this and we can
do this together. Now the first
phase of that is he has to get this defense back on par. They
struggled massively in the run
game. They had no execution as far as getting after the
quarterback. And I think largely
because they the injury to Jermaine Johnson. And so the
secondary led by Charles Gardner
is going to be different because DJ Reed is gone and a couple
other pieces are gone. So how
can he get this defense back to where they need to be so they
can compete? Now this is
supposed to be his strength. We have to see this defense come
alive and be better. I think
offensively I think you have to respect where Justin Fields is
trying to make him an all world
quarterback. I don’t think that’s who he is. I think he
comes with instruction, use him,
use his athleticism, allow him to thrive and run the ball. One
of the things that me off last
year about the New York Jets is that we couldn’t find Breece
Hall on tape. Yeah, and it was
it was aggressively ugly because there was times where we just
needed things to go after a big
touchdown, after they just gave up a big touchdown in the game.
One way to start momentum is
running the ball. And we failed to do that. And I thought Breece
Hall with the as long as the
season went along he was disconnected from the offense.
So I think Aaron Glenn has to
get the run game going, get that defense back on par and shot
confidence into that locker
room, into this fan base. And I think that’s a that’s a better
trajectory for the New York Jets
moving forward. All right. There’s no chance that we’re
going to have one of the best
chefs in the world sitting at our table. Come on now. And I
know that you consider yourself
probably to be a chef connoisseur. So I’m going to
have give you the opportunity to
ask Mr. David, do you have any any hot takes about food? Do you
have your best dish that you do.
Go ahead and throw. Throw a question his way, man, I have a
lot of things. Me, Dave, you
have a whole nother show about food, so it’d be a whole nother
situation. But I read something
recently that that’s really been boggling my mind, considering
that tomatoes are fruit. Is
ketchup a smoothie? Wow. Willie, I thought I’d be an expert at
answering anything you were
asking here. It’s a it’s a ketchup is a it’s a sauce. It’s
not a smoothie. That’s that’s
ridiculous. I can’t even acknowledge that. Is it, though?
I’m kind of putting this
together. Like, I think there might be an argument. Smoothie
doesn’t have vinegar and spices
in it, and that’s the difference. Yes. Okay. You see,
can you put ketchup on hot dogs?
How do you feel about that? Well, listen, Chicago, I’m not
I’m not ketchup on hot hot dog
guy. I’m more of a mustard guy, a little sauerkraut. That’s
that’s how I roll. But
nevertheless, man, you know, people like to get weird with
different. Willie. That’s why
you come in here. People like to get weird. And that’s why we
like you. That’s Willie Colon.
Everybody follow him. He’s always got takes. Hopefully
we’ll be back with him soon.
Also, we’re talking food. We’re topics when it comes to NFL
cities is not about whether your
team wins or loses. It’s about the food in your respective
cities. There’s no one better to
have at the breakfast table with us than David Chang, who’s going
to rank his top five NFL
football cities. And it all comes down to the sandwiches.
Correct? This is true. The
sandwich is the great test for how great a city is in food. And
man, I hope my home city of New
York does not kill me because coming in at number five is New
York City. Whoa whoa whoa whoa.
Listen, I love New York. It is always going to be my home. But
outside of a pastrami sandwich,
can you say New York really has a sandwich, right? Yeah. I mean,
listen, it’s delicious. Katz’s
delicatessen, one of the greatest places in the world.
You might even say a bagel on
lox. But I don’t think a bagel is a sandwich, so. No, I’m going
to New York, number five. And
don’t hate me. And number four. Listen, the beef. Great TV show,
great sandwich. It’s. You can
almost like, dip it in the in the Jew if you want to. It’s
like the best of both worlds.
Chicago number four. And I will say hot Dog is not a sandwich as
well. But Chicago’s got it going
on. Probably the most underrated and most important food city in
America, in my opinion. Okay.
All right. Three is one of my favorite places to eat in New
Orleans. You have muffulettas.
You have po’boys. You have one of the richest, most diverse
food cities in America, one of
the oldest. And you can never go wrong in that city, just one of
the great dining destinations in
America coming in at number two. And it doesn’t doesn’t. This is
this pains me to talk about
because I’m no fan of Philadelphia Philadelphia
Eagles, but Philadelphia is
truly a wonderland of sandwiches. Really. And as much
as I love the cheesesteak, I
think it’s the roast pork that is the true sandwich of
Philadelphia. It’s got so much
going on. But Philly, you can’t go wrong. Also, just so many
great restaurants in general.
And listen, I moved to LA a few years ago and I would be
surprised if you asked me before
I moved here if the number one sandwich in America, in terms of
depth and diversity would be Los
Angeles, because you have, wow, the Mexican influence, you have
cemitas, you got tortas, you
also have the pastrami, you have canter’s, you got Langer’s, you
have all kinds of things. So by
the sheer sort of amount of kinds of sandwiches, I’m going
to say Los Angeles. Is it bad
that I don’t know any of those sandwiches that you just named?
Well, we got to go eating tour.
I am with it. Yes, I am here. Let’s get it. I’m in shock. La
having the best sandwich. It’s
like you told me the best live theater is in Cleveland. I’d be.
I’d be shocked by that. But
you’re the guy who knows, David. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of
people who watch the show who
get confused about who is where. So there’s people who think
you’re in New York right now,
and security is telling me there’s torches outside the
building and they’re waiting for
you to leave, so we have to get you security. Now, listen, it’s
like you say, they only got one
sandwich and it’s the pastrami, but it’s like. That’s like
saying, oh, the Bulls only have
one player and it’s Michael Jordan. Like, that is a hell of
a sandwich to only land them on
number five. Hey, listen. Absolutely true. But there’s so
many good sandwiches here in LA.
And listen, I love New York City, but New York really just
has the pastrami. Can you name
another sandwich that but that? That’s the point though, David.
Here’s the reality you don’t
need to have. If you’re in New York, you can get any sandwich
you want in that city. That’s
like what I miss about home. So it’s not just about like this
identified one, by the way, I
don’t usually take notes when people are speaking. During the
show. I was taking notes. You
had some hot takes here. The fact that you said the
cheesesteak in Philadelphia is
not like the sandwich is shocking to me. Like that is
like worldwide, what
Philadelphia is known for. I know it just dawned on me I
forgot about the bodega bacon,
egg and cheese in New York. It is two sandwiches. My bad. Oh,
and by the way, you did throw
this out here. Breakfast sandwiches. Bagels. Yeah, that
is a sandwich. Number one. And
number two, the best bagels are not in New York. As a guy that
grew up in new Jersey, the best
bagels are in new Jersey. So I think that’s an important
distinction here. That’s crazy
talk crazy. No, no, no, these are facts, David. I’m, by the
way, look at me telling the
world famous chef about food taste. But I know I love this.
The Jersey bagels are better
than New York bagels. And it’s not close. David I we usually
tend to go positive on this
show. Like like I’m trying to do about Jersey. Let’s just flip
that though. If what is what is
the city. It’s just between us. What’s a city where if you’re
like, oh man, I got to travel
there, there’s nothing to eat there. I can’t ever is there one
of those? Like, if you had to do
your worst, what would it be? Man, I travel a lot, so I don’t
want to say anything negatively
about any city. Well, listen then let me just say any city in
new Jersey near the Meadowlands
is probably not the best place to eat. Oh, you said about the
place that he. I mean, he told
me he’s a Giants fan. So listen, sorry, Giants fans, I just have
to say it. Well, there’s look
where David’s coming from. Number one, he’s a commander’s
fan. So by the way, as a guy who
called New York City home and he is ragging on the G man ragging
on on the Jets, he probably
didn’t like the Knicks run this year. He’s a commander’s fan. I
mean, this is this is where this
hate and this negativity is coming. I thought we hit it off
in the green room this morning.
David, what happened here? This thing, they’re pitting us
against each other, and I don’t
like this. I need to know why is a bagel not a sandwich? Because
I think it’s a breakfast food.
You know, I don’t know, but because I just don’t think cream
cheese is a sandwich sort of
sauce, you know, spreadable. I love cream cheese, I just don’t.
This is me. Yeah. I mean, you’re
the expert, so. Yeah, he is the he is the expert. But it’s like,
you know who’s the best team in
the NFL. Like, you know, everyone can have an opinion.
And maybe the one that I give is
maybe the one that I feel the best about. Once again, the top
five NFL cities in terms of
those sandwiches. Your New York card officially now gone
revoked. Lowes knows you Back here on Good Morning
Football. Look, we have the
world famous chef David Chang that’s here. But you are a
football head in a lot of ways.
You’re watching all the games on Thursday, you’re watching them
obviously on Mondays. And then
of course, everything that’s happening on Sundays. But you
are part of the TNF crew as
well. Just broadly speaking, that experience must have been
so much fun in the road, meeting
the different players in those games. What was it like for you?
I still don’t believe that it’s
happened because it’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever been a
part of, and the whole Amazon
TNF team, they’re just the best and it’s really like a family
and getting to travel and watch
the games with experts like yourselves. It just sort of
changes the whole football
experience. Now, Dina, I heard along the grapevine that there
may or may not be a story where
Richard Sherman sets you up for failure. We need to back. We
need a back story to this. Tell
us what happened. Okay, so one of the big things that I do for
TNF is make the sort of leftover
feast for the Friday Night Football game. And so we make a
leftover sandwich, we call it
the wedge breaker. And this year we were in Kansas City and we
make this thing and you don’t
know exactly who’s going to win because it’s like basically the
MVP of the game. And it’s got
turkey and pork and all kinds of stuff in it. But the only reason
I put pork in is Richard Sherman
was like, hey, taste it. He’s like, you know what? It’s
missing bacon. I was like, and
this is all happening live. And maybe like ten minutes
beforehand, we have to make the
sandwich and go out. So I don’t know. And we still don’t know.
They haven’t made the
determination. If it’s Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce or Chris
Jones defensive tackle. So I’m
walking out there and Chris Jones, nobody’s told me
anything. I made the last minute
decision to add pork put there, and he looks at it and it’s on
camera and he’s like I don’t eat
pork. Oh, oh, so you made this amazing spread as a as an award
for the MVP of the night. And
then he looks at you and says yeah this looks good. I hope it
doesn’t have no pork on it
because I don’t eat pork. That’s correct. So listen that’s what
live TV is. You guys know. And I
was incredibly embarrassed. But there’s nothing I could have
done about it, so. And I blame
Richard Sherman. It’s his fault. It’s definitely Sherman’s fault.
Absolutely. That’s my teammate.
But who ended up eating a sandwich? Gosh, everyone else
did after the fact. Okay, I was
going to say Fitzmagic probably did it. Oh, Fitz. Fitz. Fitz.
Bring it over to Charissa.
She’ll put it down. Hey, Charissa. She’s a great. They’re
all good eaters. They’re all
good eaters. Yeah. What did you call the sandwich, by the way?
The wedge breaker. The wedge
breaker. Kyle, I think if you ever need help. By the way,
naming a sandwich. Kyle, I feel
like you’d be really good at that. Like coming? Yeah, it’d be
my pleasure. I like the wedge
breaker because there used to be a thing in football called The
Wedge, and it used to be a thing
called Kick Returns, and it was really fun. So it’s old school
and I love the call back to
that. Right, Isaiah. Absolutely. Listen up. For those that don’t
know what the wedge is and what
Kyle’s referring to is back in the day before the rules change,
where the linemen were able to
link hands and come forward to block anybody that was coming
down to make a tackle. So when
you’re talking about a wedge buster, that’s the type of
sandwich you’re talking about,
something that’s going to hit hard. It’s going to be
tantalizing to taste buds. And
I’m mad that Chris Jones couldn’t partake in it because
Sherm set you up. That’s all
bad, all too bad. So if you’re going to make a sandwich though
Mike, what would you put on it?
Well, there would probably be pork on it. I was just thinking
about which, by the way, I’m
disappointed you didn’t bring any pork sandwiches. We will.
You and I are going to be
discussing. I got up at three in the morning. It’s not my fault.
Just chef prep. Oh, you slept
in. You say it’s one of those? By the way, Kyle, I have a
sandwich for you. Witty saber is
what I would call your sandwich. Do you feel like that’s a. Why
is that I don’t know, like the,
you know, all the running back stuff. We’re giving out sabers.
I think you’re what he got. Oh.
The saber. Okay. Yeah. The scepter. Scepter? The scepter.
Like. But like it all. It’s a
sensitive subject here. Now you got. You can’t say saber when
it’s scepter. I. I feel like I
need to go over. Over here. Nah, miracle, this would be a
shocking loss for Commander
Faithful. What is the game? I’m almost glad 10s ago I was
counted out. All they have to do
is win to get in so we all can watch me, right now. But the
game on the line. Here comes the
Hail Mary. Gorge. It’s a miracle comeback. Come back, come back.
Fires end zone. Preposterous.
Jayden’s going to throw for it. Launch football from the
Washington office. They win in
overtime. We’ll see you in the postseason. Get ready for me. I
couldn’t wipe the smile off of
David’s face as he was watching Jayden Daniels just ball out
inside this division. By the way
I know Kyle made reference to it. Yeah we have our headshots
here. Of the four quarterbacks
in the NFC East we got Jalen Hurts Jayden Daniels, Dak
Prescott and of course Russ is
going to be cooking in a men’s uniform. All right I’m going to
post some questions to you guys.
And then you tell me which signal caller is the best fit.
So Kyle I will start with you
the most riding on this season of the four QBs is which one? I
mean, I guess I’d have to go
with Russ this. Just get the ball on the fairway I folded his
shoulders into because he’s in a
Steelers uniform, so I’m actually going to take the prop
and move it in because he’s now
a New York Giant. But that’s actually appropriate because
will he be a giant next year.
Almost definitely not. Right. Or will he will be on another team
next year. Will he be playing
next year? Just a bizarre crossroads for a guy who’s on
his fourth team in four years.
It feels like if he rises up into something really special
this year, then it’s like, what
a cool story. But if he just, I don’t know, kind of holds the
reins for half the season and
hangs the hands it over to Jaxson Dart, that’s not really a
dignified of this guy’s level
and this guy’s tenure, so he’s got a lot going on here. The
rest of these guys have too. But
these are superstars on the way up. This guy is kind of trying
to hang on to something. So I’d
say Russ all right I am going to go with my guy down in detail.
I’m gonna go with Dak Prescott.
And the reason why I’m going with Dak Prescott is because of
the fact that he’s coming off a
season in which he tore his hamstring. He could not finish.
The year prior to that he had
three consecutive 12 win seasons where he was doing his thing.
However he’s always falling
short when it comes to the playoffs. Dallas Cowboys, we
know is the long gone story.
They haven’t done anything in the playoffs since forever, but
this is his opportunity. They
gave him a solid offensive line. He has three first round picks
blocking for him. He has a
running game behind him. He has a new head coach, and he has
George Pickens and CeeDee lamb
at the receiver position a lot riding on Dak Prescott and what
he can do this year. Well I’m
going with Super Bowl champ Jalen Hurts because it’s hard to
repeat right? Right. And he had
an up and down season last year. Loved Jalen Hurts. But any time
you have to repeat that it’s
never easy to do. Yeah yeah there’s always going to be
pressure in Philadelphia to
begin with. But and this seems almost odd to ask because all
these quarterbacks are going to
feel some type of heat. But Kyle if you said least amount of
pressure is there a guy that
stands out from the group. Well, listen, Jaden, you could say
he’s got already money in the
bank and he’s on the way up. But that second season thing kind of
lingers. This guy’s always going
to have pressure in Philadelphia. Now you got to
defend the title. You got to get
back. Russ I already talked about is there a huge amount of
pressure on Dak Prescott. Is
there ever. And I know you said you were talking about this
Isaiah. But like he’s a made
guy. The Jones family loves him. They just put him with weapons.
They put him with mountains of
dollar bills. They have a new coach here. If they go nine and
eight this year and losing the
wild card Dak plays pretty well. It’s kind of just like well
that’s kind of what we do here.
So I don’t think there’s no pressure on him. But next to
these other guys I think it’s
probably the least tell me I’m wrong. I’m going to say that
you’re wrong just because Dax
been around for nine years, and that story is going to be the
same for all the other
quarterbacks outside of outside of the guy who wore number
eight. Right? Troy Aikman.
Everybody’s kind of falling short. You know Tony Romo was
there for a long time as well.
He didn’t win any Super Bowls. That’s how you’re always
measured in Dallas. So I think
there’s a lot of pressure on Dak. But the person I’m going to
say is Russell Wilson. Russell
Wilson has the least amount of pressure. Even though everybody
is saying oh it’s either we’re
going to make it or we’re not in New York with him. Is there
really pressure on him? He’s at
the end. Towards the end of his career, he’s been jumping around
from team to team. The
expectations are low. They’re hoping that they can have a
winning season. Nobody’s
expecting them to go on a long playoff run. So I think that in
terms of expectations in the NFC
East, this guy right here is the one who has the least amount of
pressure riding on his
shoulders. Well, I’m going to agree with Kyle. I think it is
Mr. Dak Prescott as well. Wow
okay. Because honestly they could go nine and eight and no
one’s going to care about Dak.
And he might have like 5000 yards passing. And that’s just
what it is. Yeah. Because they
know Dallas fans get tired of that though right. That’s why
I’m saying Dallas fans they get
tired of having these quarterbacks that put up great
stats for years on end and never
coming up with any jewelry, even a divisional championship.
That’s what everybody wants to
get back to. So if he doesn’t get back to there after nine
seasons yeah they’re going to
start coming for him. Yeah Isaiah I think from a football
perspective a team perspective
Russ does make some sense the least amount of pressure. But
from a personal perspective this
dude doesn’t play well. We’re going to see Jaxson Dart out
there. So he might feel the most
amount of heat of the quarterbacks just to keep his
starting job. Kyle, the guy that
you would want to hang with over a meal, have over for dinner,
which were the group always
coming to my house. All right, well, Dave, you should know this
about me. Like, my currency is
just silence. I want quiet around me when I’m not here. So
I picked the guy who I think is
going to talk the least. Not. It’s probably Jalen Hurts. He’s
a soft spoken guy who has what
you call an economy of words. He chooses his words carefully. So
I just honestly, when I get
home, people are like, you’re so crazy. Are you like that at
home? I’m like, I don’t say
squat. When I get home, I just sit on the couch and do whatever
I have to do without speaking.
So I want Jalen Hurts to come over just for the sake of quiet,
have a nice quiet meal and then
say goodbye. Some of these other guys, I don’t know if I can hang
with that. I’ll, I’ll say Jalen
would be perfectly fine and nice and quiet and then he can leave.
All right I’m going to say Jalen
as well. But it’s going to be for a little bit different
reason I want to see Jalen Hurts
walk up I feel like he’s like Nino Brown reincarnated. You
know what I’m saying. Y’all
remember Wesley Snipes from new Jack city had the little Kangol
hat. That’s how he walks around
on the street when he’s swagged out. I feel like he has a wealth
of wisdom. He just bites his
tongue a lot. So I want him in a one on one setting where he can
just let loose and not have to
worry about what the media has to say, what he’s going to say.
David, who’s your guy? There’s
no question I. Come on man. Come on man. This is the Savior
himself. So yes, of course I’d
bring him home. I mean, listen, if my wife and I have another
child, it’s quite possible. The
name Jaden. Oh, boy or girl? That’s serious. That’s how much
I love this man. Boy or girl?
Yeah. So, of course I want him at my house. Did not think we
were going to go down this path.
That’s some real commitment there. I have a question. If
Jayden Daniels came over to your
house, what would you make for him? Oh, Lord. Honestly, if he
needs a private chef, I’ll be
there. I’ll cook anything that guy wants. Yeah, but you don’t.
You don’t have a go to that you
would make for him. No, I got I got to know exactly what he
wants. So, yeah, I might make my
mom’s braised short ribs. You know, I think he wants some home
cooking. Okay. Nothing fancy.
Yeah, no, I think I think signing all of us up for that,
for sure. There’s one person at
the breakfast table who has done a cooking show, and that is
David. So you’re going to go
last on this one. But, Kyle, if you were going to do a cooking
show with one of these
quarterbacks, it can’t be. You’re not you’re not going to
go with hurts. I know that
because you already said you you want a talkative person for the
show, correct? Yeah. But I’m
thinking more about versatility. There was a period in my life
where I was obsessed with the
show chopped on the Food Network. I would watch chopped
every single day. If you’ve
never seen it, they give you a basket. And it’s like all these
wild card ingredients, like make
a meal out of Fruit Loops and chicken breasts and human
fingernails, like, make it work.
And then they’re like, oh, no problem. I’m going to go with
this guy because I think he can.
He has the versatility to think on his feet. He’s not going to
do the dumb thing where they go
to the blast chiller or the ice cream machine, and it never
works. They never get everything
on the plate because he’s had a lot on his plate in the first
year to try to change an
organization. I thought he wasn’t going to do it. And then
the bears game happened and he
became the guy who walks on water. I want him in my corner
on chopped. Ted Allen can say,
time starts now and Jane will start working. So this is my
guy. All right, I respect that.
But I’m going to go with Russell Wilson. You talk about somebody
who is probably the most
cultured of all the quarterbacks in the NFC East. He’s been from
let him cook. Yeah let him cook.
He’s been from Seattle to Denver to Pittsburgh. He’s in New York.
He’s winning across the entire
country. He has what it takes. And his wife is Sierra. So you
know that they’re always on a
flight somewhere international. Have you seen how many
hairstyles he’s had? This dude
is cultured. I’ll give you that. Well, if this is a cooking
competition show like chopped,
then I definitely want to go against this guy. Oh, okay. I
just don’t think he’s going to
deliver under pressure. That’s just what I cooking. We’re not
talking about football. We’re
talking about cooking. Oh, sure, sure you’re talking about
cooking. By the way, David,
you’ve had enough. You’ve had a lot of hot takes. I feel like I
like it. We get to the break,
man. You’re going to check your phone. And Dallas fans, come on.
I’m not worried about that. Bidi
bidi bidi bidi bidi starting to into the show. James Cook, by
the way, you just gave us the
news. Probably a good place to start when it comes to recipe
for success. He clearly is not
happy right now with this contract situation. Dude wants
to get paid. We certainly
understand why. Kyle it’s June. Yeah it’s June at this point. Is
James Cook not being around? Is
this a recipe for success or maybe even disaster for bills?
Mafia? You got to sympathize
with James Cook. He’s like, what do you want of me? I, I just
scored 16 touchdowns. I was
fantastic in the biggest game of the year. You drafted me. I’m 25
years old. I’m still in my
prime. I’m not too old. I’m not hurt. You pay everybody else
around me. Why don’t you love
me? It’s. I think they do love him. I don’t think they love
him. At $15 million a year. And,
you know, we’re in this, this era now where the running backs
got a little, little steam in
their step again. And they’re seeing Saquon and they’re seeing
Derrick Henry like no you guys
aren’t Saquon and Derrick Henry. You know there’s a question
about James Cook is really
really good. Is he special. Is he I can’t imagine the bills
without him special because
that’s the only way you get that kind of money. So it’s just
we’re back in this running back
conversation that we’ve had for the last decade, which is the
what is your win above
replacement? If James Cook were to poof and disappear, does Josh
Allen and the bills offense fall
apart? Probably not. In fact, definitely not. But he does give
it a little extra umph. It’s
just it’s a really tricky thing where he deserves it. He’s
earned it. He’s he should earn
it in the future. And yet there’s still this sort of
stigma about that position where
we think if we could get someone cheaper and they maybe not do as
great as you, but close enough.
I do think they love him, but not at this money. And the fact
that he has his foot in the
ground right now. I don’t think this will be going away quickly.
Yeah, it’s a terrible conundrum
for the bills front office, and I can only relate to it being a
chef, making a menu when the
general manager comes down and you know it’s the end of the
month and they look at the food
cost and they’re like, hey, you can’t buy this and you can’t buy
that, and you don’t want to
compromise your product. You want to do the best thing
possible for your guests, but
you have to make a decision. And I feel like that’s where they’re
at right now for all the things
that Kyle just said. But, I mean, listen, I’m glad I don’t
have to make that decision, but
maybe you should because it preserves Josh Allen, who’s also
also a terrific runner as well.
So I would I would probably sign him. Yeah. I’m not going to hop
to the other side of the tracks.
There’s not no. Probably for me they they need to sign James
Cook. This dude is one of the
key ingredients to their offense. Everybody talks about
the running back position as
somebody who just gets the ball handed off to him. This dude
catches the ball out the
backfield. He lines up, he runs routes. He creates mismatch
nightmares all over the field.
So you start talking about Kyle. Can they operate their offense
without him? Yeah they can. But
they’re going to miss 25% of their touchdown production if
they do. So this dude needs to
be paid. He’s not asking to be the number one paid running back
in the league. He’s asking to be
the third. As of right now Saquon Barkley makes 20.5. You
got Christian McCaffrey makes
16. And then right underneath that you have Jonathan Taylor at
third making 14. He just wants
to be above Jonathan Taylor. He just wants to be right there in
the conversation with the guys
who are producing. And when you account for 25% of your team’s
touchdown productivity. Yeah.
Give me the bag. Yeah. Kyle do you look at this though and say
I saw Dalton Kincaid probably
take a little bit of a step back. Keon Coleman wasn’t
necessarily the producer in his
rookie campaign that we expected. Like, if I’m James
Cook I’m going you know what.
Fine. You want to pay me? Roll with the other dudes I know.
Listen he has he does have that
leverage. He has so many things going for him. A lot of times
these guys who don’t show up to
camp, I’m like, come on, really? Is your take that strong? It is.
He has so many things going for
him. It’s just you can’t pay everybody guys and you can’t.
Every time a contract dispute
comes up, you can’t just say, pay the player pay. Sometimes
the GM’s are like, we know
things that you don’t know. And as much as we love him, $15
million is not going to work for
us because we paid this guy and this guy and this guy. It’s
interesting too because James
Cook, his personality, he’s a soft spoken guy. He’s a quiet
guy. So I don’t think he’s the
kind of person who’s going to be throwing a fit in the media and
stomping his foot. His brother’s
out there tweeting about him and has for years, too. So it’s what
you want. What you worry about
is not now. Right now it’s June 9th. Okay. Is this going to be
August 9th? Is this going to be
it’s the end of August and he’s just not there. That’s what you
want to avoid. I still don’t
think the bills, if they were going to pay him 15 million they
would have already done it. Yeah
TikTok. And I think you’re right. You make we still have
plenty of time before the season
but rather get it done than not get done. And Kyle you made the
best point. I think we’re all
like, yeah, it’s not our money. So go pay all of these dudes.
Not reality though. Browns
meanwhile four quarterbacks right now fighting for a
starting job. If you want to
count Deshaun Watson. Technically five guys on this
roster when you assess Kevin
Stefanski has sort of said, hey, I want to give these guys the
reps that they need. Kyle, is
that the right approach, though? Is that a recipe for success to
try to spread the wealth? It’s
the strangest thing in the league right now. It’s so
strange. Are those five guys I
mean the Deshaun Watson piece alone is strange. I don’t even
know when he gets a clean bill
of health. Does he suit up I don’t think he’s ever putting on
a uniform again like he is on
the roster. He’s highly paid. The owner publicly disavowed
him. That’s that’s just one
piece. That’s weird. I’m not sure why they drafted Sanders,
and I know. Well, fifth round,
that’s a quality pick. But you already drafted a rookie
quarterback. You already traded
for. For Pickett, it’s Kevin Stefanski is this great coach
who everybody respects. And yet
this is a really, really strange group. And I’ll say this again
is cheddar making the team. Is
he going to be on the practice squad. Is Flacco staying with
the team? There’s so many
questions and the idea that let’s just try them all I don’t
know. I’ve never seen this
before. And typically when you see something you’ve never seen
before it doesn’t work out that
well. Isaiah is this as messy as it seems, or are we maybe
missing some hidden thread of
how this is going to work? Because it’s very bizarre. No,
it’s definitely messy. And I
know Davey hates probably hates when people cook in the kitchen
and don’t clean up along the
way. That’s exactly what this is. This is just a messy behind
kitchen right now that they have
to they have to account for Deshaun Watson. To your point.
Already got disavowed by the by
the owner. He won’t be suiting up I would imagine going forward
I’m no Miss Cleo but I would
imagine that’s not going to happen. Joe Flacco is going to
be the starter. That’s that’s lo
and behold we all understand that he is the guy to get this
thing back on the rails. Is he
going to be the starter throughout the season? I highly
doubt that, but I think he’s a
guy who’s put in a position to get these guys going in a
winning direction. Kenny Pickett
is going to be on the roster. They traded not only a player,
but they traded some draft
equity for him. He’s going to be on the roster. At what number?
I’d assume he’s going to be the
backup quarterback just because they gave up equity for him. Now
you get to the other two right.
The rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel you start talking about
Sanders. This to me makes zero
sense to the same point that you made. Kyle why would you draft
two guys right a couple rounds
apart from each other Dillon Gabriel most likely to me is
going to be traded. I can’t
foresee him remaining on this roster because I believe in my
heart that Sanders is a better
quarterback. He was a better quarterback in college, and I
think that he’ll have a better
showing when the preseason presents itself. When we start
talking about the issue of
should they these guys all get equal, should they all get
opportunities? It’s not
possible. It’s not possible in this NFL with the time limits
that they have, the restraints
that they have within the practice parameters. These guys
all can’t get substantial reps.
They’re not all going to get the equal opportunities to go out
there and prove that they are
worthy of being on this roster. So that’s when the preseason
games really come into fruition.
You got three preseason games that you have opportunity to go
out there and play. What is that
distribution going to look like? Are you going to play Kenny
Pickett? Is he just going to be
the lo and behold backup and just go ahead and wave him past
and just make this a showdown
between Gabriel and Sanders? I would foresee Kenny Pickett
playing maybe a quarter, maybe
two quarters in that first game. After that, it’s going to be the
Gabriel and Sanders show, and
you’re going to be trying to figure out which one of these
guys is going to produce and
which one of these guys am I going to try to show. It’s a
little nice, little sparkly
little piece of jewelry out there that I can go out there
and hopefully trade and get some
more equity back. Well, in a kitchen you want clear, defined
roles, not just the kitchen, any
organization. So this is very confusing. And I feel terrible
for all the bills fans because
they’ve been tortured for way too long. So I hope it comes to
a resolution sooner rather than
later. Because whether it’s Flacco, Pickett or clearly I’m
rooting for Schroeder, I feel so
bad for what happened to him. So I just don’t have any answers.
But again, I love Cleveland as a
city and I hope the fans get what they deserve. Yeah, David,
Isaiah just said that the idea
that the Browns would trade one Football. And of course, it’s
always fun when you have a
culinary wizard like David Chang on set with us. And David, one
of your claims to fame is the
pork belly sandwich. Super tasty. Ian Rapoport told us he
tried that, not to mention the
ramen back in New York. I’ve had the pork belly and the ramen in
New York as well, but we are
going to base an entire segment on this sandwich. So, David, you
got the four ingredients that
make this sandwich. We’re going to pick some players that sort
of correspond to the fits of
those descriptions. We call it bun intended. See the pun.
That’s I like it. All right.
Let’s start with with the bun. So tell me why this ingredient
is important. And what it means
is we’re thinking about some of our quarterbacks. Well the
steamed bun. And I think that’s
the most important description here is it’s not baked it’s
steamed and it’s leavened. So
there’s yeast in it. It’s soft. It’s pillowy on the outside but
sturdy enough to hold this whole
thing together. So it is the most distinctive part of the
sandwich. And I think I would
love to hear what the quarterback or running back or
wide receiver is. All right.
What do you got for me? I see what you did there. I’m not sure
that this dude is all soft and
cuddly and stuff, but I can tell you that he holds things
together, and without him,
everything will fall apart. And I’m going to go with Josh Allen,
quarterback of the Buffalo
Bills. He is that guy. Everything has to go through
him. No matter what you put
around him, everything goes in between and he just puts that
sandwich together. That’s it. I
like the sturdiness factor that’s there. You know, for me,
Justin Herbert, I don’t feel
like we talk enough about this dude here at NFL network. You
want to talk about sturdy and
what would happen to that team’s offense without Herbert there? I
watched every single one of his
college games when he was at Oregon. Strongest arm, at least
in my mind in the NFL. I’m going
to go with the dude who plays right across the street at SoFi
Stadium. Kyle, who’s your bun?
Well, this is easy. I mean, for me, if we’re if we’re talking
buns, this guy gets his tush
pushed. It’s the most famous buns in sports. I’m going to go
with Jalen Hurts. It’s easy.
Just put them right there on the plate into the end zone. Jalen
hurts that’s the easy one for
me. Oh I like that one. That strong move by you. And you kept
it newsy as well David. Now the
bun is obviously important but you need some meat here. The
pork itself, the significance is
it’s, it’s we call it pork belly. People might call it
fresh bacon. And so it’s, it’s
layered with fat and just juicy, unctuous pieces of pork. And
listen, if you cut a slab, you
cured in salt and sugar and then you slow roast it and then it
sort of confines, and that means
it’s cooking in its own fat, and it gets just succulent and
delicious. It’s sturdy. It’s
sort of plodding. It’s all of these things that you would
never expect, but you can eat so
much of it. But it is probably the star of the show as well. I
like that sturdy star of the
show is really the foundation of the sandwich. Derrick Henry
yeah, Derrick Henry, you can’t
have a Baltimore Ravens sandwich without Derrick Henry being
right in the middle of that
thing, making sure that everything comes together just
right. Yeah, good. There’s a
sturdiness factor that’s there. I like where you went with this.
I’m going to roll with a guy who
we haven’t even seen playing an NFL game just yet. He was
electric when he was in college.
Ashton Dent, I think, is going to be more than sturdy as an NFL
player. No one had more tackles
than him. I think you sometimes need a little bit of punch from
one of the main ingredients, the
pork belly. For me, I’m going to go with Jessie Kyle. Well, who’s
your meat? Well, if we’re
talking pork belly, I want a guy who has kind of a belly. I’m
actually going to go with AJ
Dillon and the Philadelphia Eagles, formerly the Packers.
Now AJ Dillon does not have some
big old belly that hangs over the belt like Jerome Bettis did
back in the day, but there
really aren’t that many running backs like that now at all. I
just want someone who is big. I
want someone who’s going to be the pork, who looks like they
like to eat pork. So AJ Dillon,
who also will be involved in the goal line, just like my guy Mr.
Buns over here. So I’m going all
Eagles goal line stuff. By the way, you’re getting good use by
the way. Out of the headshots
there. Well done. Our staff is loving that third ingredient
here David. The pickled
cucumbers. Feels like it’s a compliment, right. Well it’s a
unique thing. I think pickles
are great and burgers and sandwiches in general, but you
need it. It’s the piece that you
don’t realize you need till after the fact. So sometimes
pickles are salty or sweet or
both. Listen, it’s the ingredients that has one
important or two important roles
and often gets overlooked. Two important roles in often gets
over. I’m going to say this dude
gets overlooked, but this dude does get over the secondary and
he has two things he’s
responsible for catching the ball and scoring touchdowns.
Justin Jefferson for the
Minnesota Vikings is my pick for the pickled cucumbers because
this dude catches balls,
catches, makes touchdowns and he just is the garnish that goes on
the top of the secondary. All
right. So look you pick arguably the best wide receiver in the
NFL which is fine. There was an
ingredient to the Giants offense that they needed desperately
last season. And they got that
in a rookie in Malik Nabers. Give me the dude who all of a
sudden I’m watching the team and
I’m seeing explosive plays in an offense that I didn’t see two
years ago. So for me, the
pickled cucumber cucumber is which is weird to say, is Malik
Nabers. It is. It is weird to
say, and it’s a weird food and it’s weird to eat. That’s what
makes it fun. That’s why I’m
going with DK Metcalf. I think DK Metcalf is kind of weird guy
in a really good way. Eccentric,
original. We’ve seen a lot of the stuff about his diet is
basically gummy worms and peanut
butter cups, so I think he could use a little cucumber in his
diet. Now that he’s got a new
quarterback, he’s going to get even weirder. They’re going to
get pickled together. So I’d say
DK Metcalf All right, you got to drizzle a little sauce on this
guy, right, David. Absolutely.
So hoisin which is maybe not familiar to everybody, but it is
a beautiful dark sauce that’s
tangy, sweet. It is the thing that ties it all together. It is
the secret ingredient of this
sandwich, the steamed pork bun. The secret ingredient is I’m not
going to say that this guy is
dark and lovely. He’s probably the opposite of that. His name
is Dan Quinn, but Dan Quinn is
the sauce. Dan Quinn is the sauce that keeps the Washington
Commanders going. As you well
know, I think you sometimes need a little bit of a guru, so to
speak, to piece things together.
Sean McVay is the guy that I think is the glue that holds the
Rams together. Offensive
mastermind that’s out there. Got eight playoff wins before the
age of 40. Sign me up for that
sauce Kyle I think he’s the best coach in the league. He’s just
McVay is just such a jock. He’s
got that meat headedness to him. I want someone who goes the
other way. If I’m thinking sauce
I’m going down to Miami and it’s Mike McDaniel with those
sunglasses and those pants and
that weird around the way delivery and voice like he is
just the kind of sauce you add
to the sandwich at the end and be like, oh, that’s kind of
weird and different, but I like
it. That’s my guy. That’s a good one. As I was like thinking
about some of my picks, I’m not
going to lie, I thought I knew where you guys were going to go.
So I was trying to go off the
beaten path. Not not shabby. The collection here of players. A
little bit of a recap for you.
This is a little bit of a who’s who though. Yeah, I like that. I
like that list a lot. I like my
list a lot. I don’t know how you guys feel about yours. I mean, I
got to choose a winner. I think
Kyle has the best. I’m sorry, guys. I don’t win a game. I had
the thing won after my Jalen
Hurts answer. And you guys know what the rest of the segment was
just playing out. That’s fine.
But it did feel like cheating that you had a prop for your
Jalen Hurts selection there. And
you flashed it twice. There it is the look. The team works
really hard. I’m glad he
together. So we’re getting good use out of all of this stuff.
Well done by you Kyle. You’ve
been crowned the champion.

  1. Dallas Cowboys will surprise too with Ceedee & Pickens?? Imagine if they get a good RB. 🔥😮‍💨 Michael Irvin will be on First Take preaching sermons

  2. As a Steelers fan I’ve been optimistic on what Aaron could possibly do for us just off the fact he knows he doesn’t have the power he had in NY & he’s playing with a coach who regardless of his playoff record he gives you a consistent chance at getting to the playoffs every single year no matter how bad the offense or defense may play.. Aaron probably wants one last legitimate shot at getting to the offs which Mike & that defense gives you a chance at every year

  3. Bruh get off of Rodgers sack…everyone not running round with these high praising expectations of this dude like you propagate.

  4. Please send Kyle back on leave he is just obnoxious..and is he deaf? he seems like his only volume is essentially yelling.

  5. I don't have any faith in AR and don't see the Steelers going any further than they did last year. They should have asked Ben to come out of retirement if they gonna keep paying QBs who aren't even worth it.

  9. Russ lit up the Bengals in the air! Russ took down The Redskins in DC! Russ took down the Ravens! Watch the wildcard joke playoff game against the Ravens! Tomlins elite Defense just failed from top to bottom!

  10. It’s gonna be rinse- wash- repeat! Same as it ever was! Mediocre coordinators and Coaching! Aging defense! Kind of a bad Oline! I love the Steelers it’s just I know what to expect now! A rollercoaster ride to land a wildcard game and choke!

  11. funny how people will watch 10 hours of sports a week and never think to make any money from it… thats so much time wasted when you couldve joined a group like backdoor syndicate and make money while having fun lmao

  12. Steelers are turning into the football version of a joke, Vick, Rogers, Wilson, all in an effort to replace Big Ben.

  13. been watching this team choke for 3 years, at least now I just tail plays from backdoor syndicate while I watch and it makes the Ls hurt tiny bit less
