FIRST THINGS FIRST | Nick Wright RIPS Justin Herbert As NOT A Top QB With Los Angeles Chargers | NFL
#firstthingsfirst #nickwright #losangeleschargers
point though one guy ahead of them Having Jaylen Herz behind Justin Herbert is it really it’s one of those things where it tells me a lot about the evaluator and what they value and what they don’t and what they and speaking of and I listen I am what I’m about to talk about here I am sure I am guilty of this is not an attack on Chris Simmons I promise but it it speaks to just a massive ego of I just know better than than the games the the five years of evidence and careers and 150 games played between them doesn’t matter as much as my eye be and that because when one guy has not only been to two Super Bowls but played really well in one and played great in the other And not to mention NFC Championship game where they scored 50 and you know all of that stuff And the other guy’s playoff resume is two we can show it to you Two of the most disappointing playoff performances of the last decade The last of which came in a season where he had the number one defense in football and all Jim Harbaugh asked of him Don’t turn the ball over and we’ll be fine And in the playoff game he had more interceptions than he had in the entirety of the regular season combined I just don’t know how you can say he’s better than Jaylen Herz It just seems that that one ranking seems to me to be un indefensible other than ah I just know Well you have let’s talk about this because this is one of the most this is one of the most absurd arguments that Nick has ever put forth here And I’m not here to say that uh Justin Herbert should be ahead of Jaylen Herz or behind Jaylen Herz I’m ripping apart Nick’s logic and the argument that he is trying to put forth Also this whole idea that it’s just kind of the ego of Sims of like I just know better know it’s Sims valuing the teams that Justin Herbert has had to deal with relative to not just Herz but just other quarterbacks in general because Nick right here first off Nick doesn’t even think that Jaylen Herz is that good of a quarterback Let’s be very clear here Let’s not pretend that in any way Nick Wright is now a supporter of Jaylen Herz That’s thing Don’t get it twisted Do not get it twisted He just can’t make up his mind who he wants to bring down more Quite frankly because now he’s talking about oh that Jayen Herz plays great in Super Bowls and this It’s like okay sure Right now all of a sudden you’re a Jaylen Herz believer Like okay sure And he talks about how this being one of like the worst playoff games ever All he all Jim Harbaugh asked him to do was not turn the ball over Uh that’s not exactly true Okay And it’s and it’s so interesting because all anyone did was blame the offensive line for Patrick Mahomes’s absolute utter failures in the Super Bowl During this epic collapse by the Chiefs and Mahomes all anyone ever did was blame the O line So quickly let’s go through this The Chiefs had 14 yards on their first five drives the fewest yards they’ve had on their first drives of any game started by Mahomes playoffs or regular season Mahomes to his first postseason pick six Mahomes became the first quarterback in Super Bowl history to take consecutive sacks before throwing a pick six in a span of three plays For the first time in his career Mahomes threw two interceptions in the first half of a playoff game Mahomes 43% completion percentage in the first half was the second lowest rate in a first half in his career better than only his 42% completion percentage versus the Chargers in week two of 2020 Mahomes finished the first half with 33 passing yards the fewest he’s had in the first half of any game in his career Mahomes was one of six with two interceptions on passes more than five airs He was 14 of 22 with a touchdown on those throws for his career in the postseason prior to Sunday He became the second quarterback in Super Bowl history to throw an interception on consecutive pass attempts The Chiefs didn’t cross midfield until their 10th drive drive snapping a nine drive streak the longest by any team in Super Bowl history The Chief stretch of nine possessions without scoring was her longest with Mahomes starting regular season or playoffs Mahomes was sacked six times the most he has taken in any game of his career regular season or playoffs Mahomes is the second quarterback in Super Bowl history to take six sacks against four or fewer pass rushers Patrick Mahomes had 42 dropbacks without being blitched second most in Super Bowl history Mahomes was three for8 for 43 yards with a touchdown and an interception while under pressure And make no mistake about it one of those touchdown that touchdown was when the game was over The game was well well over So that was an absolute epic collapse epic failure 1,000% And yet Nick wants to use some of this to craft his argument Now for that Super Bowl it was like “Oh the O line The O line What do you want him to do the O line What do you want him to do?” Interesting Justin Herbert was pressured 19 times 19 times Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl was pressured 17 That’s weird That’s That’s interesting He had an offensive rating of 53.5 and a passing rating of 49.7 Threw for 257 yards where we know about like a hundred of those yards were literally when he was just going up against backups Two interceptions a fumble Like weird Very weird And yet Justin Herbert with obviously a inferior team to what the Chiefs had to deal with or who had the Chiefs uh have actually did better dealing with that pressure Interesting We also know a couple of those interceptions were not Justin Herbert’s fault at all One of them was just like you know the it’s the end of the game What are you going to do the other one was just straight up on I forget if it was either the tight end or wide receiver I mean like we we we know some of this stuff is legitimately misleading So it’s just it’s just it’s just funny how we want to just lump that all on Justin Herbert Like that’s that’s bizarre It’s also bizarre how we want to use this to like act like this is just you know so awful when in that other playoff game against the Jags he h he was 25 for 43 273 yards This is his first playoff game ever one touchdown I mean he had zero run support had a whopping 67 yards and his team gave up 31 points The same year the same team the Kansas City Chiefs got to go pull up against the Jags The Jags only were able to score 20 points Patrick Mahomes only threw 195 yards and got 144 rushing So Patrick Mahomes got to do less have a better defense better run support Justin Herbert had to do more had to throw more passing attempts more passing yards had effectively no run support at all literally in the 50s if you subtract Justin Herbert’s you know 12 yards and yet he lost and Patrick Mahomes got to do significantly less and win that’s that’s interesting that’s and you know we just want to we just want to for some reason I guess blame Justin Herbert for that like you know because it was a big comeback and it’s like that’s that’s Justin Herbert’s fault right you know playing for a coach that got fired that will probably never be a head coach in the NFL ever again weird and don’t forget that Justin Herbert was on the road both times and in that last playoff game there were literal devast devastating fires You had them like wearing masks while while trying to practice They had to leave practice early They couldn’t even practice They were trying to figure out are are their families and friends okay like it was a bizarre situation This was year one with Harbaugh Like trying to pretend that it was just like Harbaugh was like please just don’t take care you know please just take care of the ball don’t do anything that I want to do And like that was it And then Justin Herbert just completely collapsed Like that was the case Really really this pass that goes right between lad’s hands It’s a little high That’s that’s that’s that’s all 100% on Justin Herbert I mean this is what you had Justin Herbert dealing with here Calls hike and immediately gets sandwiched Justin Herbert supposed to just magically find a way through that His number one weapon is a six-foot slot receiver Got it I mean you got the best defense that that Nick Red is trying to paint here Giving this up against CJ Strad Fumbled snaps having CJ Stout just make a magic Like really I don’t remember him doing that against the Chiefs I mean like look at Justin Herbert making these throws No one can help him make a play I mean that’s an insane throw Can’t come back for the ball and make a play I mean it’s just it’s pretty unreal This interception right here Justin Herbert’s fault now going off his receivers’s hands popping in the air That was the one that I was thinking about That’s That’s Justin Herbert’s fault Really that’s his fault really justin Herbert’s fault that the game was close So it’s not like oh they were down by big and that’s why they couldn’t run the ball Like this the score was clearly close throughout the game clearly throughout the game Third quarter 6 minutes to go 10 to six and yet they could not run the ball 2.9 yards per attempt 3.1 overall 2.8 18 carries for 50 yards Come on man We got a bunch of bootleg interceptions for Justin Herbert And obviously like again it’s like what do you want him to do when he’s making plays when he’s getting pushed out of the pocket he’s making he’s throwing beautiful balls not being caught Like so weird So I mean those are just a handful of highlights you know i mean it’s just it’s just so misleading And if you want to say okay but Patrick Mahomes had had more success and this and that And it’s like I get that I get lots of other quarterbacks have had more success They haven’t been on teams that are as bad as Justin Herbert I mean Justin Herbert’s had no consistency at coaching coordinating roster construction I mean like it’s just it’s it’s so obscenely misleading to just look at that I mean it really is It really is It’s like saying Joe Burrow didn’t play good last season They didn’t even make the playoffs And it’s like we know that that’s not the case We we know that’s not the case So it’s just it’s so absurd And again the point of this argument isn’t to argue where Justin Herbert The point of this video isn’t to argue where Justin Herbert should be in this top 10 range or that he should be above or below Jaylen Herz or that it’s like crazy or this or that Because again by Nick’s own logic then Jaylen Herz should be above Lamar Jackson which I know he does not have him there Have him above Joe Burrow which I know he does not have them there and has head-to-head outplayed Patrick Mahomes because Nick’s own argument earlier in the segment as I showed you in my previous video he went through all the head-to-heads as to why Mahomes should be above Josh Allen why he should be above Joe Burrow Josh Allen Lamar Jackson He did their head-to-head combined He did them individually and then it’s like okay well then Jaylen Herz is is has has has Patrick Mahomes beat So again you got to be consistent with your logic You got to be consistent with how you’re going to have these discussions That’s how this works So if you look at this list and your big issue is with Justin Herbert that’s obscene That really is That’s obscene Makes no sense And a random graphic like this is so wildly misleading I mean it really is It’s so wildly misleading Patrick Mahomes in his first ever playoff game won 31-13 zero touchdowns an 85 uh.2 passer rating 27 for 41 Had a nice 180 yards rushing for the team Obviously not Patrick Mahomes He had a whopping eight He got to throw to Travis Kelce Tyreek Hill Again what did Justin Herbert have he had an 84.7 rating actually threw a touchdown pass 273 yards 25 for 43 had 67 yards rushing as I’ve went through Who did he throw to everett Keenan Allen Palmer Carter Like do you do you see the differences do you do you see the differences this is why you can’t just look at random stats If we’re looking at just the playoff games it’s like Justin Herbert played good enough to win his first He he played better or equal to what Patrick Mahomes did And Patrick Mahomes got to do it at home Justin Herbert had to do it on the road again with a coach who ended up being fired Patrick Mahomes did it with a Hall of Fame coach Hall of Fame Travis Kelce Hall of Fame Tyreek Hill a defense that held the other opposing team’s offense to what 13 points 13 points So you see the differences And then when we saw Justin Herbert in a playoff game that was comparable to what Patrick Mahomes faced Patrick Mahomes looked absolutely embarrassed Abs got absolutely dominated I don’t care that it was a Super Bowl and well that was a Super Bowl and that was it’s still a game at the at the the the fundamental truth is that it’s still a football game You’re still expecting your quarterback to like be able to to you know you’re still evaluating how did the quarterback play in that moment So it’s just like if we’re going to defend the fact that Patrick Mahomes dealt with pressure and receivers and this or that it’s like well then who the heck did Justin Herbert have so you see how we frame arguments like that all he did was ask him was to not turn the ball over That’s nonsense Justin Herbert was forced to try to make magic out of nothing With a team that was far from great far from great and was under constant duress who had a who who had a better receiving court at that point who would you rather have whoever the heck the Chargers had or would you rather have Hollywood Brown DeAndre Hopkins Travis Kelsey ask Ask uh Nick Wright who who’s better who does he think is the better coach Harbaugh or Andy Reid who do you think is the better coordinator Spags like it’s just it’s it’s just kind of funny man It really is And that’s why I wanted to use those direct direct comparisons um cuz there it’s just it’s the most fitting It really is um to kind of use this It’s it’s not Justin Herbert’s fault that he’s had limited opportunity in the playoffs and why even something like this when you only have two playoff games how they can be so brought down because of obviously a really bad game not unlike what we saw happen to Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl But again the big difference was that Patrick Mahomes got to get some extra yards and points and touchdowns and completions because he was going up against backup backups while confetti was falling from the sky and there was a Gatorade bath on Nick Serriani So um Justin Herbert did not have that luxury Oh and let’s not forget about Xavier Worthy as well for the receiving court for good measure Yeah So weird weird weird weird I’m not pretending that like Justin Herbert had this amazing game I want to be very clear about that I’m not saying Justin Herbert secretly played an awesome game and the team around him just failed him Not saying that I’m not saying that at all But to pretend like the situation was just was just given to Herbert on a silver platter and he just dropped the ball literally and just collapsed That’s not the case That’s not the case And he actually dealt with the pressure with an inferior team better than none other than Patrick Mahomes And if you’re going to give Patrick Mahomes the benefit of the doubt because of the pressure then you have to give it to Justin Herbert And saying “Well Patrick Mahomes won two Super Bowls and he’s done this and that,” that does not matter when you’re trying to evaluate a single game It’s not how it works And if you want to blame Justin Herbert for his loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars that’s comically hilariously ridiculously absurd It just is In his first ever playoff game he played better than none other than Patrick Mahomes with the worst team And against the same team Patrick Mahomes got to do less and still win And it’s just it’s just it writes itself man It writes itself But those are just my thoughts I’d absolutely love to hear yours What do you guys all think about Justin Herberts um you know I guess his quarterback rankings and Nick Wright’s uh arguments here Let me know in the comments below I read every single comment So whether you agree with me or disagree with me either way let’s get in some discussions Let’s get in some fights But ultimately let’s just have some fun And please Great qbs find ways to win with less period .
I 100% agree with Nick on this one Herbert chokes in big moments his name should be Justin Prescott! Dude is not a Clutch QB but he can throw a pretty ball but thats about it hes the only QB in his own division that has NEVER beaten the Chiefs when Mahomes is starting
Nick is a prick, everybody knows that! Nick’s opinions are like assholes! Everyone has one! I’m with you!👍✌️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
I disagree. Nick thinks Jalen hurts is definitely a top 10 QB. Thinking Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, and Burrow are better QBs than him isn’t being a Jalen hater
Can’t agree more with you.
The Eagles team was loaded. Imagine Hurts without a great o-like, AJ, Devonte, and the best RB in football.
Now imagine Herbert on the eagles with those weapons and that o-line.
I get what Nick is saying
Herbert is on the Clippers of the NFL
He will never win a ring or big playoff games ima tell you that right now
As a broncos fan ive watched the chargers put out LEGENDARY ROSTERS and choke that shit away time after time after time
With Brees Rivers and Herbert
What Sims is saying lb for lb
Herbert is the better QB talent
And if you added Hertbert to the Eagles and Hurts to the Chargers hurts probably would even be considered top 15 and wouldnt have any of the team success he does now
However eventhough i feel talent wise Herbert is elite. You still need to win big games.
Which is why i never rank Herbert bigher than 8 9 or 10 on any of my QB list
You still gotta win at least ONCE at some point eventhough i know he on a cursed team. Lol
So nick is right you cant have Herbert ahead of Jalen. You just cant do it man. Lol
Holy cow! Who in God's world would listen to a moron like Chris Simms, who wanted to be a QB but didn't have the talent, evaluating a skill set for something he lacked? If it weren't for his dad he would never have been in the NFL and certainly not giving his half-witted opinions on these podcasts. LOL
Yes Herbert holds every passing record yet these clowns want attention
These evaluators don't value wins. That's the whole issue. If wins were most important, which it should be, then Jalen Hurts should be #2. 2 SBs in 3 years, 46-20 in the regular season and 6-3 in the post-season. SB Champion and SB MVP. No one else other than Mahomes has this on their resume. It's that simple. I don't GAF about the team that's around Hurts, our GM knows how to build a team, and Hurts shouldn't be maligned or discredited for that. He is a champion like it or not and is betrer than Jackson, Allen, Burrow and Herbert. This is common sense.🙄
Nick Wrong is a giant dill hole and his takes are absolute trash🤣 Stop disrespecting Jared Goff🤬
Nick is finally Wright. Herbert hasn’t done anything to receive this praise, OVERRATED
Herbert is a good QB but he’s not elite.
Just because you're 6.5 and white does not mean you're a great QB.
Dude u gotta stop making excuses for hurbert if he goes another year without a playoff win u have to stop
Herbert is elite and better than Hurts, if u need to see him win a playoff game to see that then you just don't know ball.
If you need a top 10 defense , top 10 receiving core top 10, running game, just to win ONE PLAYOFF GAME you not elite…stop acting like he was playing with the worst roster in the league…
Julian, all your points are spot on. Why listen to Nick Wright? He's a Chiefs fan who loves the spotlight & he's a joke 😏🙄
Odds who gets the blame next year when Herbert gets smacked in the first round
+100 The Defense
+150 Oline
+ 300 John Harbaugh
+425 Ladd McConkey
+10000000000000 Justin Herbert
Buddy doesn’t know ball and it shows. Jalen hurts isn’t top 16
The defense gave them 4 int lol
Lmao. Herbert was god awful. wtf you talkin about.
And the end of game interception is his fault. You sound dumb asf. Herbert is mid at best.
Pass to Ladd was waaay high. You a clown.
Looking forward to week 1 and the season when Chargers bury the Chefs for good and Nick Wright can Suck It ⚡️🆙
Funny Not so Funny story about the playoff loss to Jags….. Going into 2nd half I had already hit 6 out of 7 on my parlay and needed Ekeler to gain 5 yds for a 4K Hit…..after His 1st 2 carries for minus 5 yds I then needed 10 of which He got 5 bringing his 2nd half stats to 5 carries for 0 yds running behind Foster Sarrell playing for the injured Jamaree Salyer who was playing for the injured Rashawn Slater but Definitely All on Herbert ⚡️🆙
I don’t want to defend Nick but if you put all 10 QBs on a field and asked the playoff coaches to pick one at a time Hurts would be taken before Hurbert probably by the Eagles
Prick Wrong can not help himself to take a shot a KC Cheats rival he hates the Chargers and Herbert he is the voice of KC Cheats cheerleader supremeo as he honks the horn homer for KC Cheats.
Nick is Kansas City’s resident throughout his life…
Herbert needs to win playoff games. No excuses. "Rankings" are just stupid. They're just OPINIONS.
Herbert is only qb evaluated on two games and not a career or season and funny part is people know he doesn’t have what the other top guys have had at least at one point and that’s consistency from his team and coaching staff he finally getting that now he finally got a real number 1 wr that can route run and is a burner and is reliable and a run game he never had any of this but every qb yal put over him has had multiple number 1s or dominant te or two and star rb
For once nick is right
Nick is a tool and a Mahomo knob slobber.
Idk what Hurts would be on another team. But on the Eagles he's top Three based on winning.
Love this take! Keep telling the truth. People hate context
Nick wright had a secret crush on Justin Herbert
Herbert is a stud! He never had a complete team. Ask Mahomo how it worked out when his Oline was trash. Patrick looked like trash. Team sport people.
The question is about Herbert not performing well in all his playoff games and your first defense is to bring up Mahomes 5th Super Bowl stats 😂😂😂?? You need help
