we can do this all right ladies and gentlemen welcome to Break 90 at Oakmont Country Club ahead of the 2025 US Open you know the deal i’m an amateur taking on the toughest test in golf to show you just how difficult these courses really are oakmont is a beast the greens are lightning fast the rough is 5 in and growing and it’s long at 7,400 yds and if that wasn’t enough we got 200 bunkers on the property just from the frying pan into the fire but the question remains can I break 90 from the tips at Oakmont or will Oakmont break me i’m feeling pretty good i don’t know what’s going on this is a slap in the face dude i’m so excited [Music] everything’s free over here is it all free [Music] you guys don’t know what you’re in for this place is a bear okay she’s really really hard so seven handicap over here do you think I can break 90 today no cool ladies and gentlemen we’re playing with Eric Carlson today legendary NHL player from Sweden sweet see what we got to work with yeah a little healed but I’ll take it all right break 90 begins brand new swing let’s see what it does oh that was pretty sandbagger i think that’s in the rough straight up eh we’re playing straight up straight up what a nice shot thanks i like it it just goes back to that one momentous break 90 at Capalooa where my whole view on performance changed this idea of surfers when they go surf there’s no score like when we come in after a round of golf we say “Ah played okay.” Yeah surfers are like “Dude the waves were sick.” Yeah the waves were good today they were bad i don’t know i think surfing is more a relaxation thing i don’t think we do this to relax in the same sense that’s interesting because we’re so close to the US Open we need to take unfortunately what was a peach of a drive take it out of the yellow roped area which is rather large and um indeed move it over here so local rule today good news bad news who knows feels fine okay nice we got it all right that’s no joke so is it better to take more loft or less loft out of this more for sure so 58 absolutely just kind of flash it out yeah that’s the best way to describe it hit it like a bunker shot a little better of a lie nice out thanks there he is all right maybe we can make one good roll that’s good all right i don’t even know when this tea box was born but we’re going to go hit from there pretty sure this is a very long golf hole right now yes look at this oh god i haven’t been on a tea box that feels as much like a dance floor as this one in your backyard this is a putting green good ball great ball what’s the best feeling on the ice when your team scores a goal if you score a goal or if you’re on the ice when someone scores a goal you’ve scored a lot of points as a defender yeah I have luckily why what what is it like are you are you crazy what is it no I just think like like look at me i’m not very big guys so it’s not like I’m going to fight someone right so I think I just you know growing up and playing from a small town and I had to survive out there to begin to have to be fast which I was luckily and then you know I was lucky to you know be able to be skilled enough and put up points that I stuck around 33 up the hill 40 45 okay cool now do the N again good swing nice get over bunker i think it hopped in in the big scheme of things it really only needs to go about four or five yards okay awesome all right happy to be out happy to be out good putt thanks really good lock it in Aaron [Music] yeah nice ball thanks good swing thanks hopefully that sits my favorite thing about Oakmont is just the sheer history of the place you know and for me that actually goes into my kind of ranking of golf courses right is like historical impact what it’s had in terms of like shaping the game 1903 was the year it was started it’s held more US Opens than any other golf course there’s no water on the golf course right there’s so many interesting things about the place it was designed by a guy named Henry had never designed a golf course before a lot of lessons from Oakmont in its architecture layout design kind of show up in a lot of other golf courses church few bunkers i mean that is like a logo icon of architecture in golf you immediately look at those bunkers it’s Oakmont and here we are not the best line in the bunker on a par five off the tea yeah this is a penalty shot right here this is an Irish penalty shot right here it’s unfortunate jesus there it is oh my god bunker on the left’s 140 anything out of there will be a win me this course has some teeth yeah you can get screwed here you know what’s funny like when you’re playing like a normal golf course you can kind of make mistakes and you’re like “Oh cool no problem i can I can cover that.” Like this is like a different level of recovery yeah here it’s like you miss wrong here you’re dead yeah it’s interesting you know because like I think the coolest thing about pro golfers is their ability to recover yeah oh it is and I’m wondering about like from a from like a hockey standpoint are the best players the ones that can take advantage of like a challenging situation yeah I think so reading situations i think that’s what it is mostly uh which we call hockey IQ hockey IQ 230 the pins 26 on 205 front still a little bit of wind up there she probably got hit like 210 215 good swing that’s right where he said that’s long I bet not another bunker that was a good sign though felt good really uh I can’t remember the time I’ve hit a 4 iron that well off a downhill lie at a US Open venue for my seventh shot no no let’s count driver first sand wedge second sand wedge chip out third bunker shot four iron that was my sixth shot not my seven i guess if I hold this it’s a double which doesn’t seem right i’ve been hanging out over there for like an hour i think I ate a sandwich in the middle of that bunker game i don’t know what’s going on this is a slap in the face dude oh nice hit it oh rolled over it that was the hardest nine I’ve ever had in my life a little bit left is safe there is not a lot of room up there around that hole that bunker is going to eat you up if you kind of go at it and you’re like a yard short yes that’s up a little jesus that was long all right come on dude left her left her bank shot i I lost it really good get in jar Jar Bank oh you’ve had to two of those now on a board baby let’s go okay i feel like I can breathe all right [Music] straight ball right at that chimney on the right is right center of the fairway ideal target okay straight ahead bingo yeah she good that’s good now yeah it’s good yeah it’s in the zone that’s in the yellow ropes that’s where you want to hit it ideally every hole in the yellow ropes oh my god slider [Laughter] that was all world NHL like recap oh there he is 56 46 so there’s 25 ft there get out the fairway you hit good contact it’ll sit right down don’t go oh my god well you hit your wedge further than I hit my driver roll out all right never mind come on baby you’ve earned it just hold hold hold oh no it went back left you pig leave it alone win dial swing missed the bunker on 15 here feeling super lucky we’re in the first cut maybe second cut i don’t know what you want to call it and here it’s really cool cuz I can see 276 from the tea is what I hit it and middle of the green is 244 playing 228 where’s that pin you think oh it’s back it’s 242 to the hole 242 to the hole get away with that kick left yes you’re good baby yeah you can chip that in yeah all right you know what i’m going back to the cut i’ve missed and left all day i feel like I just go go a little bit back to the cut i hoist it up there bob’s your uncle and he really is my uncle i have an uncle named Bob let me know in the comments below limes disease that’s it wow bunker too i think it’s a lot of wind yeah I’m right on the left edge of the bunker cannot be right of me okay got it oh nice out right on the front left good that’s crazy so the yellow boxes that’s where the pros are going to try to hit it they’ll probably hit like 3wood over there which is insane and then just chip it over that’s nuts dude it’s just big golf course it’s a good roll you know when you’re hitting a long putt like that it’s nice when it just comes off obediently you know it’s just like a really good pointer you know driver right yeah oh yeah take advantage of this wind wind is what Box do it tox a little short of it 170 to the back pin that’s 30 on 140 to the front i’m taking front i’m going to take your 160 club see what happens okay get out so it’ll hook off this first hump and then kind of straight back up the second hill you kind of have a back stop if it gets a little past nice yeah I just kind of pushed it I cannot make those shots I was right i saw that said it how you playing i don’t look angry no way come on i’m not having fun rattle a little rattle yeah it’s fine you drink or no me now sober how long 24 years oh good for you that’s right where I want to do it [Applause] just short wow every hole there’s this little area that’s not quite the green but not quite the fairway right yeah this is awesome so the green is mowed in a four and this is just back and forth it’s tricky see like I’m not on the green just just because that’s the line or it’s like maybe it’s like here is Well it’s hard to tell yeah that’s a historic classic piece of Oakmont aronomy probably one of the reasons why the USJ probably loves coming here because it really is a special beautiful um you know piece of grass at the end of the day just looking for a piece of grass you know i’m lying too here i’m trying to make a three oh died can’t hit it hard enough a little little light there he is good save that hit he’s a game guys you know find the ball hit it oakmont’s no different expectation of 47 on the front do you ever get like really mad on the golf course you don’t strike me as a you know cuz hockey is such an aggressive game i used to when I first started playing now last couple years when I don’t play that much I don’t usually really yeah sometimes when I play with my buddies if we play for big money or you know something you go at it 40 will be long stay there too far down yeah I’m just going to scoot the hybrid up there i’m not chipping it I’ll tell you that it’s going to go right that That’s what I’m saying it in order for you to get it close you got to go left i I I think you have the right play just hit it out to the right we’ll try and make one from around Erics nice yeah good play thank you good roll get iconic golf hole right here you don’t even really know it walking up to it which is kind of the interesting thing about the third hole at Oakmont church view bunkers but uh yeah you can’t really see them until you get there and then it’s terrifying i’m hoping this cuts good swing yeah there you go hang on we’re finally playing cart golf well I figured I mean you’re hitting good cuts i should just copy you you were here and I was probably here i got negative roll how the is that possible yeah that’s all carry right there how far do you think that is i I can tell you exactly with Aros how far do you think we hit it how far we hit it yeah from the T- box how far 285 263 oh I suck i mean that’s a good carry you get You get 15 yards a roll it’s 280 little uphill downhill i don’t know my My round is going to go to hell now that Yeah i’m just going to try and swing so hard yeah it’s 170 yeah it’s a 9 iron uphill into the wind i don’t want to give you too much cuz I don’t want it to be like 215 okay I’ll do four iron okay i do sixiron okay and you like you like the pole or what i do the pole’s good pole’s dead center at the green it’s got to go oh you should be good maybe rolls up should be on one edge that’s not a bad swing yeah thumbs up you hit a four iron i’m going to hit a six now are you really yep good yep you got it you got it we’ll find out nice shot dog par number three i mean you know just don’t go long here i guess when the course pulls on all the parts of your game even putting starts to get messed up because like I’m a I feel like I’m a pretty good putter especially from like six feet and in but I’ve missed a few of those today and it’s just the course just causes you to lose confidence which is such a big part of golf you just got to be confident you You just got to feel like you can hit the shot hey Eric you might want to attend this boy come on i like your style if you’re not even close I won’t even move it just get there honey you’re on to something there we go that was a hell of a putt thank you great four dude yeah I think that all right [Music] good ball yes that is piped yeah beauty that was big that was huge i boosted that drive it was one of the best drives I’ve hit in 2025 just took the club outside i can’t wait to watch that in slow-mo with Kical Multa Bizub swing vision i swear that club was out here closed got to the top you know I’m I’m a little bit across the line and then you know what I do i just put aing olive on the top of my wrist and then I swing through like this and you know what it’s like iron Byron and that ball just comes off the goddamn geometric center of this beautiful pink 440 G LST that ball was like “Thank you.” You know what I mean like compress me swaddle me you know send me send me three football fields away i can’t wait to get to the ball and measure exactly how far I hit it i think that’s 290 and probably all carry no roll pitch mark one two three and 1/2 yards of roll 290 i mean carry 2867 everybody’s happy about that feels good 331 in if you hit it down the middle of the fairway you could probably hit it 20 yards and still be in the fairway uh good miss one inch that was a bad hybrid shot i mean I guess I deserve it um but the good news is the pins in the back i got 130 front edge 175 back edge that’ll do just fine good ball yeah yeah caught a piece man that is crazy how that just sucks on the club head oh yeah it’s that rough is It’s funny because grass is like so innocuous but when there’s a lot of it Yeah it’s like water or air you know like a plane god look at just all these holes oakmont is just a field of golf man just absolutely stunning long putt here ladies and gentlemen long putt come on [Laughter] god that is like one of the best feelings in golf cuz it’s like all feel there’s no like math to that it’s just two part of your life i mean half of it is [Music] beauty yes [Applause] that was between the poles all right so because I’m in the middle of the yellow square I need to pick up my ball i’m going to put it back over here good lie placed kind of nice [Music] good shot thanks safe i mean that’s just a hard pin yeah yeah I mean as uh Jojo my producer just pointed out I’m on a bit of a heater a par heater i don’t like when those things are pointed out to me but nevertheless here we are in a world where the camera is your green fee what do it’s a four iron it’s a four iron 299 back left pin that’s going to be interesting it’s on the hillside just short of those guys i don’t think it ever came the whole way down all right not a terrible lie 40 to the hole 32 to cover anything on the green is good well I’m just trying to feel it out but I mean I mean simply my plan is to advance the golf ball i don’t I’m not going to try and like flop it out here i’m just going to try to kind of chunk it get it going cool i need a calculator for that one driver 58 degree miss chip chip six that sound right bringing it down to 18 here aka nine if nine’s a par four so if I make a six I’m good that’s the math let’s pray yeah good i think we can get 100 yards on it and I feel like I can get 130 i feel like we’re two beans you think you can get something like that on it this is only US Open i still feel like I can get up and down here for par i can up and down in Tupac man three dude 96 adjusted don’t really feel much wind how about just 100 yards okay just cuz sworn I felt good over that one of my least favorite shots of the day but still feel like I can get up and down nice shot come on Eric give me one good putt all right guys this is though I shot 89 ironically I got hungry i wanted more and at the end of the day I think on some level I’m playing a little better which is nice i feel like today I had some big numbers in the first
