The first round of the 2025 U.S. Open from Oakmont Country Club sits fewer than 24 hours away, which means it’s time for analysts to make their final predictions for the year’s third major title.

Rory McIlroy won the Green Jacket earlier this year in the first major title of the year by winning the Masters in a playoff over Justin Rose. After watching McIlroy complete the career grand slam, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship by five shots for his third major victory and first non-Masters win.

Both sit among the favorites for the U.S. Open, with LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau splitting them on the betting market. While golf influencer Paige Spiranac admitted Scheffler and DeChambeau are the clear favorites, she offered two dark horses to watch.

“Let’s preview the 2025 U.S. Open. This year it’s held at Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and this is going to be a grueling test of golf. Oakmont is well-bunkered with firm, fast greens and thick rough – thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. It is going to be a true test from start to finish…every single shot,” she said in a post on X.

“Cream normally rises to the top in championships like this so no surprise the favorites are going to be Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau, but if you’re looking at some dark horses, I like Harris English and Ben Griffin. I’m looking for carnage this week and fingers crossed that we actually get an over-par winner,” she added.
