We Played Oakmont From 7,500 Yards In U.S. Open Conditions | Stroke Play

Oakmont Country Club is one of the toughest tests in golf and this week at the U.S. Open we’re expecting some serious carnage. A few weeks before the championship the USGA invited us out to to play the course, so we figured why not answer the age old question, “what would a few (below) average golfers shoot out there from the tips, ball in hole?” It was about 7,500 yards had 5 inch rough, fast greens and weather was all over the place, what do we shoot?!

[Music] folks welcome to oakmont country club one of the most prestigious us open venues in the united states of america probably the hardest course in america what are we doing and we figured that what you guys would want to see carnage we preach it during us open week chaos toughness trouble boy that’s frustrating i hit that perfectly we’re going to play the tips at oakmont country club oh excellent excellent oh yeah boy i’m amazed that we went well like i’ve watched rigs almost die it looks like the rough is unplayable the rough physically assaults him and it’s like 7500 y the women’s tea damn right we’re going to play our own ball at oakmont from the tips it’s us open time let’s do this let’s do it as if this day wasn’t already hard enough oakmont 7,500 yards now it’s just pouring and windy dude i remember we did this at tory pines when the 2021 us open was out there and if i can be frank it was the longest day of my life so we’re doing it again and we just got to see what number we shoot i know if you guys want to talk what you want to break what you want to shoot towards we can talk about that but i just want to set the stage and say this is going to be a hard long day but i’m excited i mean france something with a eight anything under 90 wouldn’t that be like amazing i was just i said 92 is my number i want to try to break yeah i would say if i’m going to try to break 90 that’s my goal yeah yeah like 110 i think 105 120 i’m going to go out and try just provide some tips for everybody viewing at home about how difficult this golf course is going to be for players beef is going to help and how you’re going to get through the golf course when you’re in those certain areas beef tips beef tips i don’t even know if i want to put a number out there because it could be way off same we’re going to play our own ball at oakmont from the tips it’s us open time let’s do this let’s do it [Music] we need to worry about these guys do i need to worry about these these these fellas with the lawn mowers they they know they should i don’t know if they know all right on the right it’s totally fine fine over there that rough is going to be so thick all right yeah it is that’s fine trim good luck fellas thank you trent how’d you feel up there nervous i have legit anxiety about playing this golf course yeah from this far back i mean i don’t you know i don’t blame i mean the roof’s got to be at least 4 in jesus right side okay go get him today francis that’s the widest fairway i’ve ever seen good ball francis rug ball stay left yeah good one you got my phone rug ball you’re a hero dude you’re an absolute hero thank you just want to give a quick shout out to body armor it’s going to be a long day we got to stay hydrated strawberry banana one of my favorite flavors i’m going to drink a bunch of these today get ready for the walk body armor baby they got a whole gang of mowers they do it with the with the traditional mower traditional mowers i mean not traditional traditional traditional i guess wouldn’t have a motor but i like that look at them they’re like i like that yeah right i really thought we were going one swing do they mow right over this that that horde of mowers they don’t give a [ __ ] it’s incredible all right so here’s what we got to do today you and me we just got to take this chunk by chunk i’m not a bomber i’m not really that good but we just got to take each hole chunk it out so like i love something just right up there yeah i’m just going to give you a number this first bunker is 85 to cover 90 to cover okay so just throw like a 100 to 120 at the you know middle of the fairway i love it i think we’re all right come on chunk by chunk my friend chunk by chunk so that noise doesn’t bother me though you know why because i’ve played at carnoui now carnusi famously hosted the uh the british open a number of times very difficult course there’s a gun range for the royal army we were embedded over here so we got a drop we got i don’t know we’re going to guess 230ish so i’m going to hit a fivewood again decent lie make good contact and whack it up there somewhere and while you’re playing there’s constantly theop heavy automatic fire happening nearby that was ripped that might be pretty good i tell you what i’m going to do today i’m just gonna take this chunk by chunk chunky not i’m not even saying chunk shots i’m just saying chunk out each hole chunk it up and play well just at the pole right or a little right of it sounded kind of good yeah yeah kind of backed out of it a little so it faded but so they’ve got these landing areas out here yellow i think i got i got to move this over here then damn fairway to rough not nothing of my own doing we could we could get uh in a world of pain real quick out here i mean this is what it is we’re gonna have fun that’s what’s awesome about it yeah 15 there i like a nice seven iron what’s deep deep is better it’s rough we love that yeah yeah deep is better than short what am i am i aiming towards that pole is that why that pole is there trent that sounded great trent daddy the us open you like that one wow what a shot that was unreal am i gonna like am i going to win the us open is that what’s going to happen am i off the back [ __ ] it’s all right as long as i’m up there if i can bogey every hole i’m going to try to break a 100 okay that’s my official goal i didn’t say it on the t- box because i was nervous now that i’m starting to get into it i’m going to try to break 100 if i had said i’m trying to break 100 from the tips at oakmont if i had said that three years ago people would have spit in my face i would have shot 160 this golf course that’s the thing i think the greens are really hard you that was your second shot right there yeah i hit a good one i’m going to hit a little 54°ree wedge and nip it into the hill didn’t hit it did i oh wetter here than i’m used to it i know francis that’s well done nice shot great shot thanks oh man sometimes my asthma acts up i have to yawn to get a full breath hey try to be less of a dork jesus christ what’ you say so try to be less of a dork out here i’m telling my asthma kicked up oh good hands trent nice trent go in go in oh trent daddy oh with the golf shot crazy chip golf’s easy especially at oakmont it’s easy come on baby keep going keep going keep going that boy trent which is kind of what this feels like that’s kind of it’s exactly what we’re doing am i aiming for them it’s been an honor gentlemen it’s been an honor i’ve loved every minute of my time with you on what sport you’re that into this you see this in football and you’re no good this is incomplete it’s no good in the field goal this in golf means you’re fine i should probably know that but i don’t this is safe in this this is out in tennis one finger up out see i think all sports got to get on the same page briggs is not having a driver day which it does not appear that he is we were just i was the us open you know what i mean crazy yeah this place is awesome actual they find his ball golf tournament yeah i think he’s just playing up five yeah i mean that’s two balls that i’ve hit about as hard as i can now the drive i wasn’t perfect but like no but i don’t think my point being like you you can’t get there in two that’s what i was going to say yes trent real good shot trent wow be all what my guy said we’re going to find out all right just a couple guys getting their teeth kicked in at the come on i so far i feel pretty good i i feel good but it is it shows you i hit three what i thought were perfect shots yep and i was lucky to make a bogey i will say i had some shots out of the rough that were stunning all right ah get left get a little left all right i saw a bounce right by that right by that knob right by that human or whatever that is well this guy running with a lawn mower pittsburgh hardworking tone blue color blue collar for sure you can feel those are unbelievable hand mo hand blue collar tong draw i think you want it more right if it’s going to be right you know yeah because of the uh because of the creek or whatever is up there hey there he is good ball regular ball there he [ __ ] is real good ball yeah good ball that was a good ball real good ball all right hopefully that one’s good all right here we go i mean the man-hour that have to go into keeping this place like and getting it ready for us open is like i actually can’t even think about it look how much room there is to mow these guys are it’s pretty crazy running around in khakis they have so much work to do the guy was running that last strip in before you teed off oh i pulled it yeah it’s fine okay you’re good there trent that that rough i almost lose my body armor every time that rough is no joke that is unbelievable holy [ __ ] boy i don’t know how you do any better than that what do you do there bro that too was like a pretty good t- shot i thought it was going to be in the fairway just got 180 out completely buried i took everything i had on a nine iron and it got it all the way down there you got to hit fairways facts only that is really good might not be aimed in the right spot but i hit that damn good in the bunker but i hit it good no that was right i just hit it into the bunker which was not good i was aimed a little bit too left i think oh i hit that good too yeah now i’m in a bunker that’s going to be a a blast i think i think going into a bunker at oakmont is going to be awesome go go go good ball riggy yeah man cool rugable ball really fun ruggable all right go france i know now rolls all the way up there we’re happy with that putting for par that’s fun that’s good i’m in this [ __ ] bunker oh no oh my god not bad francis that was one where it was like i might there’s a high likelihood of injury on this shot oh no not good i mean it’s a perfect bunker lie but it’s a bunker nonetheless wow yes what a golf shot yes holy moly yes yes let’s go that’s phenomenal trent could have drawn up yeah couldn’t have drawn up that was sick thanks tommy there you go it’s really bad it’s really bad all right how’s he wow how did that stop thank you all right t yeah six i’m happy with that oh i smoked it oh look at how far that went all right collect yourself here we’re playing oakmont we want you to put up a good score here oh frank oh no i’m trying us well it’s just one of those things where like somehow i hit a miraculous third shot and i was like “okay we’re back.” and then i for putted i really had some some things going on i thought i thought that was going to land right on the green yeah i usually don’t hit my hybrid that pure like i haven’t been that great with it recently and that one i just hit it really good just didn’t have enough get down way down i got to get down oh it’s tremendous really good dude i’ve never i’ve never experienced anything like this the rough’s ridiculous the rough and then where the pins are just it’s all like do whatever you can to make a bogey i don’t see it though oh yeah there it is tommy i thought i was going to be in the bunker there me and you were going to me and you were going to have problems oh stop yeah good shot thanks i don’t think we’re going to be that aggressive i can’t i think i i don’t think that’s the world i’m living in feels like the course is unplayable oh no it feels like the course is unable oh no unplayable like when a pro comes out here aren’t they going to get furious for being as good as they are and just watching things not happen the right way it’s just thought too it’s one of the best t-shots ever seen trent that was fantastic god what in the fudge oh big help oh okay all right you know where it’s at right in front of the thing we know where it’s at right in front of the hut boy oh boy that’s that’s deep that’s deep look how dark green that stuff is over there that’s the only spot that’s gotten rain that is healthy over there that’s the hit off i just want to make sure i don’t want to do anything wrong in oakmont we were walking around before we teed off and this is my first time here and the inside it being old and wooden carpet i i love it yeah that’s like my sort of aesthetic i’m not i’m not a modern guy you know i don’t need clean edges i like warmth we were saying it’s like a i want to feel like a vinyl record he wants to be smoking indoors yeah yeah i want to be able to smoke cigars indoors center of the tea box thank you yeah it’s a poke from back there huh dude probably not going to see a lot of us open participants are.” i’m not a coward i am you want me to chip this yes [ __ ] it you’re going to catch it bring it right back okay so that’s your vision here’s my vision i’m going to chunk it i’m going to i’m going to almost 50 yards ah dude i really i really like a 20 yard chunk into the bunker i love that okay so you i like your way you said 45 yards yes chunk into the bunker you asked for it i delivered told you told you exactly what would happen and i delivered ain’t that the truth you know sometimes in life you know you’re awesome love it go that’s a great shot trent that’s a real good ball you’re fine chunk of dirt i think that’s really good hey that was money that’s super deep go baby all right you got me i got a great you looks like you trying to get a that’s a great picture that is a good pick oh it bummer i ain’t getting it just not hitting that very well drone shot is sick though yeah this place is sweet actually his rig’s on him too wow nice i’m ready to i’m ready to break some news and say that oakmont’s sweet oh i could be playing better too [ __ ] yeah get out all right what an unbelievable hole this is francis is technically on the putting green like the practice screen come on i’ll take a seven how about this wind it’s crazy i got 260 in on this hole par five or par four out of out of the unplayable rough i think a five would be a great score on this hole wow oh your hat nothing you can do man jeez just don’t know what to do there’s no way to play on it oh oh no that’s bad where did this wind come from yeah this is ridiculous yeah cuz it was already [ __ ] easy think i’m 14 over right now am i going to storm the leaderboard all right here goes nothing in the oh nuts oh come on oh no oh nuts and the rough is it’s so thick like i’ve watched rigs almost die four times hitting shots every time i look back and it’s just i just see him like this it’s like it’s like what happened he like gets thrown right he gets yeah the rough physically assaults him oh
