I thought I was finally getting dialed in with my first golf club fitting… until I found out something that completely changed how I think about equipment.

In this video, we break down one of the most misunderstood aspects of golf gear: lie angle. Turns out, it’s not something you can just tweak — it’s basically your golf fingerprint. We get into the data, swing analysis, and what really happens behind the scenes of a proper fitting.

Whether you’re chasing distance, better ball flight, or just looking to stop fighting your gear — this is the fitting deep dive every golfer should watch before getting custom clubs.

📌 Topics covered:

What lie angle really is (and why it matters)

Why you can’t just change it

How shaft flex and length affect your swing

Common mistakes golfers make before their first fitting

This one’s for the golf nerds. Let’s go deep.

doing something I’ve never done before and I’m getting a club fitting today i’m here with Steve Kurt Patrick in Nashville honestly I have no idea what’s going to happen here so um let’s just find out your line angle on your golf swing is kind of like your fingerprint it’s just the DNA of your swing you You can’t change your line angle even if you tried it’s amazing some people at impact their hands are higher at impact some people their hands are lower at impact it’s just the way they swing the club and it’s a very very consistent aspect of your golf swing all right here he’s measuring my lie angle he starts by placing a small impact sticker on the bottom of my seven iron and has me swing that uh this gives the exact indication of where the club is hitting the ground from that he makes a tiny adjustment every time till we get it hitting perfectly and then he knows what to do with the rest of my irons right on the money so your seven iron is going to be 65 and a half and then I know what to do all the rest of your irons because they go in halfderee increments the other thing that affects line angle and this is why we don’t measure line angle at a dress because when the club is stationary this shaft is straight but when you’re swinging the club at 80 m an hour like you are the centrifugal force is pulling the toe away from you so see how much the shaft can bend here he’s checking out my driver setup now quick disclaimer this was a secondhand Titalless driver I bought with a regular stiff shaft and I haven’t changed it yet he puts it on this little measuring device and gives it a flick to see the flex the first thing he said when picking it up was that he can almost guarantee this wouldn’t be strong enough for me after looking at the numbers we went with a shaft that was nearly two full flexes stiffer so it just shows that it’s worth getting these things checked out after hitting a couple of bombs we dropped my driver loft down to 8° and my average numbers were about 105 club head speed spin under 27 RPM and launch angle was 11.5 he was happy with all of them honestly it was just good having actual numbers and data on your swing uh like I said I’ve never done this before i highly recommend it if you’ve been thinking about getting a club fitting get it
