The US Open will get underway at the Oakmont Country Club on Thursday  Prices for food and drink at the third major of the season have been revealed

The US Open will officially begin on Thursday with fans travelling to the Oakmont Country Club in their droves to watch the third golf major of the season.

As fans watch the likes of Masters champion Rory McIlroy and PGA Championships winners Scottie Scheffler will be battling it out on the course, they will undoubtedly be turning towards the concession stands for food and drinks.

With the major fast approaching, a menu and price list has been published on social media with fans learning how much they could be set back over the coming days.

A single Corona Premier, the official beer of the US Open, has been priced at $11.95 (£8.86).

The price is matched for Corona Extra, Modelo and Miller Lite.

The official cocktail of the tournament, a canned lemon wedge by Dewar’s, will cost $13.95 (£10.34). White Claw and Black Cherry Seltzer have also been given the same price.

The biggest surprise for some fans was the price of water, with a single bottle set to cost $4.95 (£3.67), while soft drinks are cheaper at $3.59 (£2.66).

‘The price for water is ridiculous,’ one fan wrote. ‘No outdoor summer event should have water more than $1.50.’

‘Water should definitely be cheaper. $5 a bottle is terrible,’ another wrote.

‘Beer prices are disappointing,’ said a third, while another wrote ‘Food prices are very reasonable, drink prices, not so much.’

The most expensive item on the menu is a Philly Cheesesteak, which includes shaved beef, onions, American cheese and club roll, which will set fans back $13.95 (£10.34).

The Philly Cheesesteak is one of seven options on a favourites list, which also features a cheeseburger, Italian sausage, all beef hot dog, an asiago turkey sandwich, southwest veggie wrap and caesar salad.

The all beef hot dog is the cheapest of the favourites options at $7.59 (£5.63).

Seven snack options are available with a Bavarian pretzel the most expensive at $7.59, while chips, kind bars, a cookie and uncrustables each priced at $3.95 (£2.93).

Breakfasts include an English muffin costing $7.59 (£5.63), while a banana will set fans back $1.95 to the surprise of some on social media.

‘$2 for a banana is crazy. Can get a bundle at the store for under $2. I am irate,’ one fan wrote.

‘$1.95 for a single banana is wild,’ another added.

Several fans suggested the menu’s pricing was ‘reasonable’, however others wistfully highlighted the low-cost of items at the Masters at Augusta National.

Augusta had 27 items on offer earlier this year, with none of which costing more than $6 (£4.45).

Beers at the Masters were priced at $6 and bottled water $2 (£1.48), while the most expensive sandwiches setting fans back $3 (£2.22).
