Have Srixon Finally Cracked the Driver Game?

Srixon are known for their irons and balls, but their drivers? Not so much… until now.

There’s been a LOT of hype around Srixon’s brand new driver lineup — but does it actually live up to the buzz? Rick Shiels puts the latest models to the test to find out if they can finally go toe-to-toe with the likes of TaylorMade, Callaway, and Ping.

Could this be the year Srixon steps into the driver spotlight?

trixen have made their way here into the hit studio i’m excited about testing this the ZX I Driver lineup um we’ve got three drivers to test here from Shrixen now often Shrixen are known for their incredible ions which again will be coming to the hit channel soon be sure to like and subscribe to check out all of that content but today we’ve got three drivers in the lineup we’re going to hit them on GC quad give them a rip and let’s see what the Shrix and driver lineup i don’t know what to expect it’s been a long time since I’ve tested anything from Shrixen these as I mentioned are the ZXI or ZXI if you’re watching from the States there’s the standard version there’s a Z XI Max and there’s also an LS version as well driver priced £550 so not cheap by any stretch of the imagination they kind of sit in that premium bracket alongside your tailor made your Callaways your tight list your pings etc this is a 90°ree head you can go up and down in loft by 1 and a half degrees so I’ve got it in standard 9° there’s two weight ports here in the standard model there’s a 10 g and a 4 g i’ve actually got the 10 g in the toe um kind of make it more neutral bias rather than draw bias but obviously you can flip those weights round if you need to uh there’s lots of technology and we’ll unpack that in a minute but I think we need to start off by giving these a hit it’s a very interesting top of head pattern almost like this kind of they almost look like Mercedes-Benz logos on the top of the driver head um almost these kind of threelegged prongs which is to help with aerodynamics actually makes the driver look very very good i love that matte finish it’s a very low head profile i’m excited let’s see how it flies that felt really nice for the first hit little overdraw solid numbers get to 300 get to 300 oh 298 like solid feel that was the first initial feedback off that shot that felt like a real almost like a crunchy feel when you hit it like it was hit solid i like it let’s hit some more oh that’s really nice that’s a really nice drive didn’t get optimum distance on that one but it felt so solid off the face okay so obviously I’m going to hit some more shots with this but first two shots initial feeling is very very good very positive technology-wise there’s this new I flex tech which is redesigned face and there’s different thicknesses patterns to optimize energy transfer from the club face to the ball a lot of brands do that this is Shrixen’s version with the exclusive Ilex they’ve also using a new type of titanium which is stronger and lighter and therefore the thin face is supported by thickening areas on the heel and the toe and it almost forms this quite unique shape and I must admit it is a very shallowfaced interesting looking driver face like it doesn’t remind me of anything like normally you can look at a driver and go yeah it looks a bit more like a this brand or that And this doesn’t it’s quite shallow it’s very interesting i mean there’s actually grooves on the face and that’s another part of the technology story there’s visible laser face milling pattern which is apparently adds to the face to help stabilize spin i feel like grooves on a driver face would increase spin kind of increasing that friction potential i have to have a look at the numbers with that like it feels like Shrixen aren’t messing about with these drivers you know they’ve not just kind of stuck a Shrixen logo on a on a driver head i mean they’ve really looked at ways of of making the best possible product and you look at the players that they have on the on their kind of books really obviously got Brooks Kapka currently not using the driver uses Shrix and everything else shane Lowry Hideki Matsyama like these guys they want a serious bit of kit and this kind of looks it to be honest this is It’s a very very nice looking driver it’s a nice hit again the only thing it doesn’t feel like it’s doing is really like popping off the face like it doesn’t feel super hot that’s a beautiful drive middle of the fairway 290 yards doesn’t feel like it’s really popping off the face as hot as I’d like it to let’s hit a few more with the standard version then we’ll switch over to another model you know what maybe the LS version is the one that gets that pop for me this This is good numbers don’t get me wrong but it just doesn’t feel like it’s flying off the face you know what I just did there i just kind of hovered the driver head again one of my things I’m noticing because it is quite a shallow face it feels like my normal tea height is causing the board to come quite high off the face almost a bit kind of poppy and up where that when I hovered the driver address a dress and it felt a lot more kind of middle in that kind of equator line of the driver head so that was the standard model hit i’m now going to switch over to the Max version just to get some numbers before really I feel like the LS version is the one for me um what I’m interested to find out in this review and to share with you guys often now Shrixen are definitely considered in the iron market like when people are looking for luxury irons that feel good perform good Shrixen is in the mix alongside like a Mazuno or Tailor Made irons etc etc what I want to try and establish by the end of this video are Shrixen drivers something you should be considering when looking for those kind of premium drivers do the stricks and drivers compare and compete with your Callaways your Tailormaids your Pings your Titus etc that’s the big answer that’s the big question so with the Max version you’ve got a big 14 g weight slap bang in the back of this driver head uh that’s the only thing weight wise you can adjust i’m sure you can make that heavier or lighter it’s also got still the adjustable neck sleeve you can go up and down by one and a half degrees i’ve got this in 9° same shaft makeup um you can tell this is very much geared around kind of MOI forgiveness and Shrixen claim this to be their most forgiving most high MOI driver they’ve ever produced you can just I can just almost tell what this driver is going to do i feel like it’s going to just pop the ball down the fairway maybe not maximum speed but most level of forgiveness good looking driver head behind the ball again it’s not offset it’s kind of very square as you set it up behind the ball it doesn’t look like a maximum forgiveness driver head tiny little bit leaky down the right but that’s still going to catch right side of fairway maybe just right rough definitely popped the ball up a little bit higher okay give you an idea there no word of a lie I nearly topped that driver i nearly I nearly topped it into the screen that was such a bad strike yet it still carried 264 yards and only 13 yards offline i can’t believe how bad I hit that and I can’t believe how good the result is that’s impressive hope you can hear that yeah oh stopped what the it was rattling a second ago now it’s just stopped she’s back when you hit a good drive that was actually a really good hit 299 yards of total distance 278 carry distance ball speed’s good spin rate’s decent jingle stopped how does it keep doing that that’s an interesting shot that is a That is a four right see it doesn’t jingle doesn’t jingle you hit a bad shot doesn’t make Doesn’t make a noise oh that was a bad shot that was a leaky right one and that’s just kind of a note there obviously every brand now has like a max forgiveness max MOI and it’s it is there to help you of course it is but as you can see there you can still take shots off the plate i mean that’s 46 yards right as in someone’s back garden on most golf courses um yeah that was a bit loose little bit of a loose one is it a good shot oh I didn’t get a jingle it’s not bad got one more with this then we’ll get into the LS driver oh another really bottomy strike god I’ve got to give the driver some credit for those shots cuz they are horrendous so so bad strike i mean it’s so far off the bottom of the club head i don’t I’m not loving the kind of shape of the of the driver face you know i don’t know if I’m used to a slightly deeper one but it just seems like I’m getting a lot of low and high strikes i’m trying to not hit it high off the face i’m kind of getting this really super super high one so I’m trying to hit more in the equator line but I’m finding I’m also hitting that shot where I catch it right off the bottom now that in fairness for a lot of golfers they’ll hit that shot they will and it still performed really well that was one of my fastest club head speeds to be fair but for the to still get that carry of 254 after what felt like a a stone cold top is pretty impressive i just feel like I’m getting such differences in height compared to where I’m hitting on the face feel like I’m getting super super high launching ones or or outrageously low yeah not convinced yet let’s go with the LS last one in the lineup the LS now there’s two weights in this there’s a there’s a 10 g weight and a 4 g weight i’ve put the 10 g weight in the front 4 g weight in the back ls low spin driver everything else looks the same um you know the the shallowess of the face which again I’ve had challenges with i really like this kind of matte crown with these kind of little Mercedes-Benz logo on the top let’s give this a hit see how this flies i’m feeling optimistic with this driver i feel like if I get this right I could get some huge distances it’s a pretty good start that wasn’t nailed wow i did not nail that and it’s gone 308 yards total distance and I promise you I didn’t catch that brilliant wow that’s a huge jumping distance that’s a really nice drive that is a really nice drive yeah these are more like the numbers I want to see 302 comfortably in the 280 carry 282 really nice the big thing and we’ll look at the numbers in a bit but like the spin rate has come down a lot and it needed to to be honest with you compared to other two models oh a little bit up the right but absolutely nailed again yeah I might not get total distance because it flared a bit high right but really hit okay let’s have a look at that one out of interest that was such a bad strike i’ve had some stinking strikes in this review so far that was literally as close to the heat if that was an iron I would have shanked it just to give you an idea that still managed to carry 265 only 11 yards off target oh that was a horrible horrible strike but just shows it’s playable that would find the fairway be one of those ones where your playing partners would say “Good shot.” Even though deep down you know it wasn’t even though deep down you’re like “Oh my that’s the worst shot I could possibly hit.” But it’s it’s a little fairway finder if they were just all like that I’d be a happy boy okay let’s have a look at some numbers really interesting really interesting i mean first off feel and looks were fantastic like I really love the look of the driver the my only criticism just the face does just appear a little bit too shallow i couldn’t quite figure out where to find middle uh but I’m sure many golfers would interestingly and I could feel this it just didn’t feel like the standard model was popping off the face all the ball speed was quite good at 159.2 too the spin rate was quite high at nearly well two 2,700 i couldn’t seem to get that spin rate lower now I know the grooves on the face there to kind of what they called it um to stabilize the spin and I must admit it was very consistent at that kind of 2,700 but a little bit too high for me personally the max version again it’s not going to suit me perfectly we saw some real promise in that 264 average carry distance again the spin rate’s a little bit higher but you saw some of the bad shots I hit there and the the pretty solid results i was quite impressed with that the LS version this is where we saw a little bit more pop but mainly because of the spin rate uh spin rate came down to a much more manageable rate at 2,300 carry distance 280 total distance 301 ball speed not as hot as the standard oddly enough um I like them i’m not blown away i’m not blown away and and I don’t know if many people testing these would be like if you were really going in for a driver at this price point £550 and you compare this to a I’ve tested all of these drivers this year the Titless the Callaway the Tailor Made the Ping i don’t feel like this kind of stacks up to it i don’t and it doesn’t surprise me that some even their best players in the world aren’t using this driver lineup it’s worth trying but I think Shrix and for me are definitely more known for their irons and golf ball than they are their driver lineup guys thanks for watching stay tuned lots more to come and we’ll see you next time

  1. If I spent 550 on a driver and it started rattling after a few shots I would be livid. It is unfortunate because this brings build quality into question on what would otherwise be a decent looking driver

  2. I just picked up the LS and love it. Wish when you did these reviews with every driver. Use the adjustable features to dial in what would optimize your flight.

  3. Not going to lie, the head covers of these are kinda crap. Brooks koepka plays a Taylormade driver.

  4. So teeing ball too high, mishits, having to hover the head over the ball are all swing issues. When mishits happen you should mention approach angle, face path etc rather then dulling it down and blaming the face for being shallow. Spin rate and skying the ball will happen high off the face. You gave a negative review overall for bad strikes. Best to not post reviews off bad strikes, defaming products from poor execution is a bad trait.

  5. Can you compare the Qi 35, stealth and Sldr
show how far clubs have come, wither far or not that far

  6. I think if Rick lowered the loft to 8° on the the standard model, he'd have really solid numbers

  7. Im genuinely fed up with all these stupid 'tech names' that manufacturers use, just give me something simple

  8. Mate everything you said i felt testing it, loved it but had to tee it so much lower and didn’t feel hot off the face crazy it’s not just me

  9. I’m tired of waiting three weeks for reviews! There are plenty of products I need you to review! Vice metals, la golf metals and new putters, Taylormade zero torque. The list goes on bro. Stop slacking and don’t forget where you came from big dawg

  10. Rick, I’d love to see you do these videos as the club fitter inside you. Adjust the sleeve / weights and fit it each head to optimize performance. For this video, the LS HEAD needs to be opened to 1-2 degrees. I feel like you’re leaving information we need on the table. Love your videos rick, let’s optimize !!
