Welcome to NCG Your Golf. This channel is for you, the dedicated club golfer to help you improve your game and enjoy your golf more.

We specialise in equipment reviews and golf instruction, and we are lucky enough to play some of the Top 100 golf courses in GB&I.

The channel is hosted by PGA Professional Jack Backhouse, and he will help you improve your golf by helping you fix your slice, fix your gook, help you drive the ball longer, strike your irons pure, and help you draw and fade your golf shots.

Steve Carroll, an R&A rules official will often stop by to ensure you are not breaking the rules and get the opinion of an average club golfer.

Jack will dive deep into technology in reviews of all the latest golf equipment, helping you decide which is the longest driver, which fairway wood will stop you from topping the ball, and which wedges will pitch it closer, so you can lower your scores.

are you struggling to pick the right clubs for your game or worried that your current setup might be holding you back well you’re not alone And today we’re going to fix that We’re breaking down exactly what clubs you should have on your back But here’s the challenge How can you build one bag for everybody you don’t So instead what we’re doing today is building three different bags One for high handicappers one for mid handicappers one for low handicappers And I’m going to explain what clubs you should have in there and why they’re important Don’t guess your way through your next club upgrade Stick around and let’s build your perfect bag Like and subscribe to level up your golf game Let’s go get started So the golf bag for the high handicapper The some priorities I’ve got here are maximum forgiveness Kicking things off with driver What I’ve gone for here is the Ping G25 What we’ve got is a massive forgiving head Um quite a shallow profile which just means you’re gonna you know there’s a lot of face to hit That was going to help us get down the fairway Now we don’t really want to go into specs too much because you can be a fast swinging high handicapper you can be a slow swinging high handicapper So you need to do your best and try and figure out sort of what loft and what shaft you need but I would always suggest high handicappers sort of go for a slightly higher loft with a slightly softer shaft just because that’s going to help them get the ball down the fairway a little bit straighter So at the top of the bag what I’ve gone for is a high lofted fairway wood and a five hybrid So here I’ve got the Adams tight lies fairway It’s 16° and the reason I’ve gone for this is because of how shallow the face is A shallow face means you’re going to use this a lot from the fairway and it’s going to be really easy to launch which is important because generally high handicappers aren’t using their fairy woods off the tea They’re just they need something that they can hit for the second shots So a nice shallow phase with a bit more loft just makes things a bit easier With the hybrid I’ve gone for a five hybrid here Um so this is a Callaway Maverick Callaway make brilliant clubs for the club player and this is actually a relatively recent club and for 82 quid it is just outrageous value For the irons we’ve gone for the Ping G10s Now the technology in irons hasn’t come on quite as much as the technology in the driver so we can look a little bit older here Ping do an amazing job if not the best job of building high MOI highly forgiving clubs and the Ping G series uh have always been really good and the G10s are a bit of a standout for me for performance that’s has stood the test of time and we’ve gone five to wedge You don’t need any more clubs than that and actually I would argue you could you could have fewer clubs than that Just a perfect starter set for somebody a perfect set for someone who is a high handicapper relatively new to the game and needs more forgiveness So wedges is like the scoring part of your game Now some players carry four or five wedges Other players only carry a couple but what I’ve gone for here is just a 52 and a 58 in Cleveland wedges The 52’s got a bit more of a cavity It’s a little bit more forgiving because you are going to play more full shots with this club But the 58 you’re generally only going to use inside 50 yards around the greens So we don’t really need that It doesn’t really matter at this stage how you play your shots Um so you we don’t have to go into too much detail about the specific build of the wedge but something with a little bit more forgiveness would be great I’ve picked these clubs because we generally going to see like a six degree difference between the 58 the 52 and then the wedge So it should sort of gap Okay there usually will be a bit of a gap between the wedge and the 52 just because of how big that head is versus how small that head is But again it’s only going to be like a 5y gap that a high handicapper just wouldn’t notice And Cleveland have been making wedges for a long time really well Um so you could do a lot worse than picking these And they’re both um under£40 each So absolute no-brainer there And with the putter we’ve gone for an Odyssey We’ve got that white hot face which everybody sort of knows and maybe the best feeling face out there And what I’ve gone for is a big headed mallet So it’s got a nice big line on it so it’s really easy to point in the right direction But again we’ve got masses of you know material here back which means the toe and the heel strikes are going to perform just as well as the center hits If you’re a new player or a high handicapper and you’re looking to try and optimize your set this is generally where I’d have you um driver high lofted fairway hybrid five to wedge and some wedges and a putter But that’s a great bag that I’d be really happy to give any of the people that I teach Just to let you know Golf Coach do have a build a bag feature on their website which makes this whole experience much quicker and easier So straight away what it’s done is it’s brought up a whole load of different drivers Um we’re just going to add a few to the bag to get show you how this works So ping G15 driver And you can just see how quick and easy this is Hon to 10 iron That’ll do So I’m going to select that putter Moving on to hybrids We’re going to choose that hybrid Onto wedges We’ll add a wedge So there you go You can just see how quick and easy it is to build a full bag Right Let’s go back to Warrington So the mid- handicap golf bag is a little bit more about performance than the high handicap golf bag So we shift from wanting maximum forgiveness to a little bit more control Um we’re a little bit of a better ball striker now and there are some different demands on our games in order to sort of shoot somewhere in the 80s So what we’ve got here um is a much more varied bag So kick things off with the the Cobra Aerojet driver This is something that I reviewed I absolutely loved it It was really hot out the middle but actually was quite forgiving So a no-brainer for me Um and because it’s a couple of additions old now for Cobra it’s pretty reasonably priced Fairway woods what I’ve gone for are a 3-wood and a 5wood in the tight list 915 Um these clubs lived in the bag of Jordan Speed for well longer than they should have done Um so they’re amazing amazing clubs I’ve gone for 3wood and fivewood because we’re using the through a little bit more off the tea now We might hit a a high lofted fairywood into like the green on a par five or something I do think we need two fairywoods in this bag You could swap this out for a hybrid but I definitely wouldn’t be putting a drive nine in the bag just yet For the irons we’ve gone for the perfect clubs for the mid handicapper in the tailor-made P790s These clubs basically invented the players distance iron category and they’re just out and out good performers You could use these from 25 handicap down to 678 handicap Um and they could basically go in the bag of any golfer So makes sense to have these for the irons With the wedges what we’ve done here is we’ve added another wedge in So we’ve gone for three wedges because I know that the pitching wedge on these P790s is quite strong So we do need a third wedge in there just to have the gapping correct So we’ve gone 50 54 58 in the pin glide wedges We do need to talk a little bit more about bounce and grind here So if you’re like a shallow player who plays on a very firm course you want a probably a low bounce or if you play a wet course and you’re a little bit steepy take nice deep divots you want a club with a bit more bounce Um but there’s plenty of options on the golf clubs of cash website So you want to have a look on the filter by the loft options and then have a look at all the different bounce options they have on there and there will be a wedge that suits your game Uh and the putter we’ve got tailorade spider here Again it’s just an absolute no-brainer So the tailor- made spider is one of the most popular putters ever It’s got amazing perimeter weighting so it’s super forgiving It’s got a brilliant line for aiming Um and it keeps winning on tors So why would you not put one of these in the bag this is a bag that I you know I could probably use I could give it to players that I teach on the higher end of handicaps It sort of suits everybody Certainly I’d be really happy if someone turned up for a golf lesson with these clubs Uh I’d know they’d be into the gear and I know they’re pretty serious about the game So that is the bag for the mid- handicapper So low handicap golf bag where we’re generally going to assume that the low handicapper is a better ball striker So I’m not particularly worried too much about offering forgiveness Instead I’m thinking a little bit more about lower spinning clubs um that are going to go a little bit further off the tea less bothered about the sort of consistency and dispersion much more bothered about optimal So to kick things off we’ve got the Stealth 2 Plus driver Tailor Made have been absolutely kicking the ass over all the other brands with drivers recently So it makes sense to have one of these in the bag It’s the low spin head with a stiff shaft This driver pretty much will fit most players um if you get the specs right So can’t go wrong there Sort of staying on a Tailor Made theme Again Tailor Made have had the best fairway woods um for a little bit So we’ve got the Qi 10 to 3wood Um both these clubs are really adjustable so you can dial in that flight This one also has a weight You can move front and back to make it lower launching higher launching um lower spinning more spinning um depending on how you uh see it Uh I like this club cuz it sort of actually it goes a really long way but it performs pretty good off center as well So it’s a good allrounder Now had a little bit of a deliberation around the uh fivewood hybrid 7wood driving iron and I have settled on the Shrixen ZX 3ir driving iron I generally think that the lower handicapper is a better ball striker So they’re going to want some different options This is a great club off the tea and you also it’s got enough help to hit it into par fives too off the ground So got Chef is having a real hard time replacing his So I think you can pretty much stick yours in the bag too With the irons we’re staying with Shrixen um for the ZX7s Again you know Shrixen have been absolutely killing the iron game that the these feel as good as any clubs available on the market Um they look good behind the ball There’s a little bit of help It’s not quite a true blade but they look great in the bag and no one has ever complained about the feel or performance of a ZX7 club So um absolute no-brainer for a low handicapper Now what I’ve done with the wedges is I’ve picked a set of irons that didn’t come with a pitching wedge because I want a sort of specific 48° wedge in my bag I don’t want a pitching wedge really The reason that is is because I’m going to play a lot of like knockdown shots with this So I prefer to have something that’s smaller and is a little bit more controllable I’ve generally found that the the sort of pitching wedges of an iron set they generally can just go a little bit too far and occasionally one in 20 shots might just go 15 yards too far A bit of a jumper We just can’t have that as a low handicapper So I’ve gone for a vokey set of wedges I’ve gone 48 52 56 60 four degree gaps Um and I think that that pretty much has me covered This is more wedges than you’d have in the other two bags but again I’m hitting a lot more wedge shots as a low handicapper cuz I’m hitting it a little bit further shorter shots into the greens It’s really important I have good gapping um and a a wedge I can trust The other thing I would say is if you’re going to go for a tightest wedge make sure all your wedges are tightest If you’re going to go SM10 make sure all your wedges are SM10s because you want them to feel the same and you want the ball speed to come off the same and that sort of touch Those small details are really important to a low handicapper And then obviously we can absolutely do no wrong with a Scotty Cameron putter I like the blade for a low handicapper because it’s a more feel club If you get to low handicap then you’re pretty good at knocking in short puts So you need a putter that is going to help you be really really good at lag putting So this feels amazing It looks good behind the ball It’s got about a million wins on tour Stick a Scotty in the bag It just makes sense Um and that is my bag for a low handicapper So hopefully that’s cleared things up for you There are some definite differences between what I think should go in a high a mid and a low handicapper bag And it is quite an intimidating thing right because there’s so many different options The best thing you can do is sort of base yourself off this guide Get yourself on the golf clubs for cash website or better yet come to a golf club for cash store Have a look at all the different options See what’s available to you and then you can make your best decision from there But if you stick fairly close to the guides I’ve given in this video then you won’t go far wrong Thanks a lot for watching and if you haven’t already hit that like button Make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss our next tips

  1. High handicap bag. Personally I would include a 5w at 18 degrees maybe even a 7w rather than a 3w at 16 degrees. Most players, other than low handicap players, just do not have the speed and control to play a 3w off the fairway. A 5w should be plenty long enough off the tee as a second tee option. Depending on gapping I would drop the 5i and have a second high lofted hybrid.

Mid handicap bag: Again I would drop the 3w. Love the 5w choice, depending on gapping with other selections I would carry a 7w or 3 hybrid. Great iron and wedge choices but I would consider swapping the longest iron or even 2 longest irons for hybrids.

Low handicap bag (which in theory should be me): Love the selections, depending on the course you are playing I would swap the driving iron for a 7w. Personally I am not a fan of a 4i, I am just more consistent with a hybrid but that is me.
