look this is a putter review so as such it’s going to be relatively uneventful it will however be an honest evaluation of another brand entering the zero torque revolution you know the one that Lot said was a pure gimmick and wouldn’t last 5 minutes it now seems every man and his dog are pro- zero torque so the latest brand to jump on the bandwagon is Tailor Made and they’ve managed to create the hugely popular Spider design into a zero torque monster with the soontobe released Spider 5K ZT the KBS putter shaft is bored directly towward near the CG at a 1° shaft lean with a 25 mil offset behind the face new and improved sole shaping to work specifically with this unique huzzle configuration and the black pure old TM insert creates a softer [Music] feel it carries a price tag of £449 which is still lower than the lab efforts but considering more than the Callaway the question is should you shell out the same dollars as a new driver and is this the putter to answer all your putting problems let’s start with the looks in fact let’s start with the head cover design i’ll be honest quite surprised by my love for the turquoise not my color but this works visually and more importantly is an absolute pillow fest of cushioning ensuring your investment is given the care and protection it deserves underneath the hood is a bloody fine-l looking version of a putter we’re very accustomed to it retains the familiar shaping but takes on a unique identity with a futuristic profile that wouldn’t be out of place if golf was to feature in the next Star Wars coloring works well and the separation of the silver face and the black rear really helps concentrate the eye on maintaining a square face at a dress really found this to be super easy to align to the intended target which is always a bonus it sits wonderfully well at a dress which is something I personally like about center shafted putters they seem to have a non-negotiable position when addressing the ball which takes out any doubts in hand positioning out of the equation zero torque equals zero doubt tailor made you can have that one for the next marketing campaign the traditional style performs well on tour and I know this version is with Brian Harmon and I think I seen it with Justin Rose recently moving from the Axis one during last week’s memorial where he put it very well now might be a good time to ask you to follow me on Instagram as we making a little more effort on that platform than we did previously that’s at average golfer 99 anyway as golfers we need that tour validation and the more and more zero torque putters that find their way into the professionals bags the more we will find them acceptable to put in our own right let’s keep the initial feedback brief uh first noticeable difference to the other puts I’ve tried is the face insert now it is of course the same as on other Spider models but I’ve not used one for quite some time and it’s a little bit feisty fiery in fact and uh the controlling of pace is just something that I’m going to have to adapt to a little so what you’ve seen so far is literally straight out of the wrapper head cover off which is beautiful as I’ve already mentioned and just trying out just getting a feel for it and the important message in this video is I’m using a 36 inch putter with this counterbalance to XL uh grip on which is very much different as well but also quite interesting and we’ll talk more about that counterbalance a bit later on in the video but the first thing I want to mention is about the setup the setup yes does uh sort of suggest there is a forward press adopted if you like and yes it’s there but for me what you’ll notice is there’s three putts maybe four puts in and around this um this hole fairly short ones that I like to just hit at the back of the cup fairly firm and you’ll notice a v a visible attempt for me to press forward so for me what I’m finding is if I sit it in its neutral position just and I adopt this kind of grip no messing about don’t try to manipulate whatsoever I feel like I’m in a slightly hands behind the head situation or behind the face and I would much rather feel like I’ve got a sort of uh a forward press and I’ve got to adopt that and manipulate it whilst I prefer not to once I did it’s when the putter really started to click now the one other observation I would have is that this doesn’t feel like a zero torque balanced putter now that can be a good thing and a bad thing i don’t know which way you’re going to sort of look at this if you want to step into something that is very much similar to what you’ve been used to apart from the fact it’s center shafted then to me that’s what this feels like it just feels like a center shafted putter it doesn’t feel sort of uh abnormal it doesn’t feel any different and that’s the way I would sort of describe my first experience of stepping into zero torque putters a few years ago when I picked up very first picked up a lab so there’s nothing sort of out the ordinary with this um and like I said I can’t decide if that’s a good thing or a bad thing it’s very much for you to try and decide so forward press adopted oh wow oh you wouldn’t be happy with that always take the pin out fires off it again probably the only thing that maybe would have stopped that going in was the fact that it was a little bit pasty and that’s something that like I said I would still like to get used to however I think for a lot of golfers that again is going to be something that is very sort of uh comforting don’t know whether that’s the right word you don’t have to put a great deal of effort in terms of length of swing um and you will soon get to grips with this but yeah that is my unusual observation doesn’t feel like it’s zero torque it just feels very much like a standard center shafted putter but if it is zero torque which it is that’s not a doubt by the way then it is helping us keep that putter face square through impact and so far the results have been reasonable i said I’d mention the counterbalance because I don’t know why Taylor may have sent me this as uh the the club to review but it’s it’s a it’s an odd one because first of all 36 in is not a length I would choose to play just going to use the putter head cover as our target line i needed hitting but basically the line was good but yeah the counterbalance bit is a bit of an odd one for me because almost like what zero torque has always been about for me is just the ability to let the club head do its own thing so adopt very much a pendulum swing take your hands out of the equation and just like I said concentrate on letting the club head stay square and don’t try to manipulate at all and for me the counterbalance thing I assume that’s to do with the 36 in uh long shaft i don’t know but it seems a little bit counterintuitive and I’ve got to say again it feels a little bit odd to me um and I would prefer to just grip down the club a little and uh adopt what I feel is sort of taking that weight out of the equation but that’s a much better stroke much firmer stroke can you see again I do just struggle a little bit with that h control out of this face it is a little bit fiery something I would have to adapt to and something I keep on mentioning so it must be very recognizable to me at least well seeing as we’re on the 14th I think we should finish with a putt that is almost uh impossible to make do not go past the pin on this two-tier green because if you land somewhere like this it’s almost impossible but anyway my overall assessment of this new effort from Tailor Made their first sort of effort into Zero Torque i’m a massive fan i love it i think it’s uh very interesting indeed would it be the one that’s for me i’m not so sure there are elements of it that uh I would need to get used to that face insert being one of them and uh this 36 in version again would probably not be my choice but what I like about it is pretty much what’s been stated already we’ve got a very much a head shape and profile that we’re very familiar with it’s it’s nice of the dress even though it needs a little bit of maneuverability and there she goes a three putters in tow no matter what you’ve got in your hands my god that was a lot quicker than I actually expected but the the bottom line is it’s another putter that is available within the Zero Torque lineup from another brand so depending on which way you look at it this is win-win there’s more choice more options there’s different price points so the zero torque market as well and truly opened up and now you’ve got another decision to make and if you’re looking for that kind of putter if you’re going to spend this kind of money then you’ve got to put this one on your list to try before you make that huge investment that’s me done very short and sweet thanks to Hezwell Golf Club for having me the greens look exceptional they’ve put it so so well and the ZT 5K or 5K ZT like I said it didn’t do too bad

Yes please Andy 🔥🔥😎
Lab really have started a revolution Andy – think extra weight stops the hinging at say 34” creating inconsistency – have to try one 👍
Meant extra length 😊
As a recent LAB convert, I will stand by zero torque… and I am all for innovation from competition.
Thanks for keeping us in the know, Andy.
I feel that not feeling like its a zero torque putter but being a zero torque putter is a huge advantage. I bought the LAB Oz1 and already sold it. Hated the feel and distance control from over 20'. Did love the short putting of it under 8', but not enough to keep. Already ordered the TM ZT 34". Always enjoyed the pure feel insert
Not a lover of the prices bud . Prices of clubs now leave me feeling a bit ripped off
Got to say Andy you sunk some nice putts in the intro. I’m interested in the zero torque, currently use a Scotty Squareback with a 36 inch shaft & golf pride reverse taper grip.. do like the look of this though
Recently bought the Odyssey S2S #7, which I like. I suspect I would like this one better but I wouldn't pay up to this higher price point for my game. Thanks for the interesting review.
Great review Andy..you are hellarious as well reviewer..God bless
It's huge..
I have always liked the TM putter inserts. This just might be the one. In 2-3 years when I find a used one half price…
I tried this putter for the first time today, not the counter balanced version but the standard 35" Spider ZT, I would say fiery in the face is accurate. I was surprised how easily and far it rolled the ball. I would be worried about speed control on fast greens. As far as speed control on long putts, I had good results with it. I don't much care for the large Super Stroke grip, I would prefer a smaller grip and maybe that is why I get along well so far with the Bettinardi Antidote SB2. I have tried pretty much every ZT putter except the 2 that PXG make since they aren't very close to me, and the Bettinardi has been the best, followed by the Spider ZT. None of the LAB putters felt or looked right to me and the Evnroll one was ok, the Odyssey are ok, but nothing that jumped out and said they would help me putt better.
US$450… I guess that's fine if you can afford it. How many lessons would that pay for though?
I think I’ll keep my center-shafted, forward-pressed, Rife Barbados as the mallet in my collection. Bought it on eBay for $70.
My gamer is still the Meridian Charleston. I really like the stroke and feel I get from the 370g head and milled face.
Hard to go to zero torque at the current market prices.
Cheers Andy, thanks for the review!
Well done Andy. 🍺
No putter made is better than a Honu, many of the same advantages but the back weighted Bamboo head on the Honu provides better feel than any metal putter! Have tried Lab, Frontline, Spider and many others over the years, Honu is the best.
Hi Andy and thanks for this review and the one about thePing G440 Max.
I play the Calloway Super Soft Ball and was wondering if it would be a good match the inserted club face of the Taylormade Spider ZT, possibly making it a bit less fiery? 🔥
I will be getting a American made, custom fitted LAB Oz! If getting fitted matters, then I want the club I use the most to be fitted to me!
Was this the 36 or 38 inch you were using sir?
Have you tried any SeeMore putters Andy? Personally, I struggle with centre-shafted putters of any style, especially these onset models. Justin Rose putting this in the bag immediately, given his relationship with Axis, is a massive endorsement.
LAB DF3 all day long for me
I had a play about with a few Zero Torque putters at Calanova Golf Club in Marbella last month. My own putter is a Ping Fetch and after using a couple of them I’ve gone back to an old Ping Redwood blade! Didn’t like it at all and the weird thing for me was that it completely threw me off with my day to day mallet style putter.
Original odyssey 2 ball with original grip is the goat
I am one of those that thinks the zero torque revolution is just a fad – factually it is nothing new it was tried at least twice before LAB got in on the act, and failed the other times.
However, if a zero torque putter works best for you, then you should use it. My only advice is that if you can, get a professional fitting for a putter before buying.
I cannot wait till we get back to off the beaten track episodes. Love all your content. Off the beaten track was good for the soul. Made me love and appreciate golf even more
I have a counter balanced cobra mallet(38”shaft ). The grip has the same markings on the it as the regular 35”
If you hold the CB in the same position as the regular shafted model you will get the counter balanced effect. It has helped me with tempo- but I have a straight through pendulum swing with a bent shaft . This is after years with a plumbers on a standard 35” .
Meh. Missing great golf course photography, and play strategy
Mine was delivered today
Putters are unique to each player. Find the one which gives you confidence. Good putting comes down to practice. Any golfer can be a great putter with practice. Never mind all the new fads unless you have money to burn.
I TRIED to get one. Was told I'd need to wait until August 15th to get it direct from Taylormade. I NEED a driver now so…I purchased the TP Reserve M33 yesterday. We shall see…
Just got my Spider ZT (standard 35”) absolutely love it! I have been a spider tour player over the last 5/6 years – so the change into the ZT has been instantaneous. Being zero torque I now don’t give much mind to delivery of the putter face – which I find frees me up to just pick the line, make a good stroke and that’s it. I appreciate the point on the ZT not feeling as much like a zero torque putter and I must agree with you – the ZT feels more like a new mod spider vs this is zero torque.
Enjoy your work… you are to Golf like Flip Pallot is to fishing!
Oh Andy! Changed from my hero to a little money monkey! It's just a pity! 😢
Go on like that and my abo is history😢
I never understood why people get upset about expensive putters vs drivers when you use a putter the most. Prices are nuts though
