we had the distinct honor of being joined by my favorite reporter John Worerheim and Coco Goff’s parents who I know were nervous john they were mom dad Candy Corey congrats we saw you closing your eyes for some of this match when your daughter steps up to that line serve for her second major where are your thoughts going um first get your serve in and make sure that um you stay under control and that long as you have another point you have another chance and just um don’t get upset if someone makes a shot so it’s like you have another point so let’s go out and play yeah i’m not going to ask where your thoughts were going i’m going to ask where you were going you don’t watch it from out there where were you how’d you experience this i kind of move around behind the scenes i try and find a quiet corner and look at it on my iPad and then I make notes and sometimes I’m texting her and texting the coaches if I see something I think they can’t see i notice your shirt it’s got a lion i can’t be coincidence no uh when she won US Open I bought a shirt early on that said imagine and I I picked it out before the tournament to wear it and then I bought this shirt initially it was because I’m a Leo it’s a lion and then I told I told Candid before the show I said “Look they bringing a tiger so we going to have to bring a lion.” You’re laughing now but quite quite understandably I I see your emotional tears in your eyes still what did today represent um it represents like Koko alluded to before that sometimes when you have a loss and you get down in yourself but learning that you can pick up the the the sun will rise the next day and just keep working at your craft if this is your passion you got to give it your all and what Koko did today was amazing she never gave up she fought to the end and she gave herself the opportunity to hold up the trophy you in person you back there in fetal position watching this match i don’t care about forehands and backhands what traits of Kokos did you see on display um what I saw mainly was her ability to stay mentally engaged into the match and um staying um focused and um just believing her in herself you know that it’s kind of tough this is a a match this is championship um round and so you just want to make sure that she does her best and I think that she put it all together what did Koko show you today well she’s always shown she’s got an incredible ability to fight and that’s her best quality she fights she never gives up no matter what the score line cuz it looked pretty bleak the first set you know to be down 4-1 and and and down double break and she pulled it together and she just kept fighting kept fighting for the points before the match I told her I said “She’s going to give you opportunities you just got to seize those opportunities and make every tough point as tough you can.” And so by the end of the match they had those those points start to take toll she’ll start to miss cuz you cover the court so well so you got to go so much so her speed and her fight brought a lot to the table today to get that victory for her guys she she deserves it most but you two you earned your championship dinner tonight enjoy congrats thank you thank you very much thank you very much
