Hi all, I know ceiling questions get asked here all the time (I've read every thread about this topic I can find!), but I'd appreciate any advice on whether the space in my particular garage (pictures attached) could accommodate a budget sim setup.

I'm 5'9" tall and I've measured the ceiling height to be 8'6.5''. There is about 8 feet of width before the ceiling gets much lower.

I'm a beginner at golf, so taking practice swings to test probably isn't the best way to judge if this ceiling is high enough long-term, since my swing will no doubt change a lot in future. I'd be happy if I could swing everything except driver here.

If this would work height-wise, I'm leaning towards a setup using the Square, since I think I don't have the length requirements to use a radar-based system?

Also, because I live in an apartment complex, I have neighbours who live right above the garage. Do you think noise would be a significant problem? I would just be hitting into a net rather than a screen, so hopefully it wouldn't be super noisy if I didn't use driver?

Thanks for your help and sorry for the beginner questions that you guys probably see all the time.

I don’t think it works length wise.

Might work for wedges, but thats about it. Not long enough, not tall enough for much else.

For driver, the absolute minimum length you can get away with is ~14′. You need nearly a foot wall to net/screen, then another ~6.5′ screen to ball, and another ~6.5′ to the back wall. A standard driver is 46″; nearly 4 feet – so when you take a backswing and when you release the club in your follow through, the club length plus your extended arms make it so that you will hit a wall if it’s much tighter than that.

Now, a lob wedge is only ~3 feet. So i could *maybe* see someone short or with a really tight swing plane making it work with 10′. But even that is pushing it.

Realistically it’s just not enough space, unfortunately.

  3. I have 7’6” of ceiling height, and I play with my driver with minor issues. I typically choke up already and I’m 5’7” which help. The biggest challenge is follow through where I dented my driver on the ceiling. That driver is now my “sim” driver.

I think if I only had 8’ width it could work but would be very tight.

Alternatively, my apartment itself has plenty of space in terms of length and width, but the ceilings are only 8’2″ 🙁

Would this work if I just used 4h – GW? As a beginner I’m really just keen on a space where I can constantly practice my ball striking/contact and getting basic proficiency in chipping, pitching, etc, so if such a setup would still let me do that I’d be open to it. I’d be nearby my gaming computer as well which would be nice.

Probably irons and wedges only, but doable. You would need to hit towards the brown wall on the left or the opposite wall and have a screen/net very close to the wall and low profile. Cause like the other comment said the length is more limiting than the ceiling

Also, it’s still pretty damn loud hitting irons at full speed, especially if you hit it thin lol. Idk about your apartment layout or how thick the flooring is, but I think your neighbors will definitely hear it lol
