twice sabalinka served for the set [Applause] it really shouldn’t surprise that this match has been so evenly played the head-to-head tied 55 the head-to-head on Clay 1-1 in majors 1-1 and how about that even in tie breaks goodness close as it can be out here it’s just remarkable how Goff has been able to hang around in this first set she was being routed sabalinka won 16 of the first 22 points was serving up 4-1 40 love and yet we’re here in a first set tiebreak [Music] and it’s G with the first three points for the beginning part of this match those first five or six games Goff’s unforced errors way too high that number has dropped significantly only made a couple of unforced errors in the last four games all right [Music] it’s tough to tell Linds they almost look like a misit there from Sabalinka well Sabalinka realizing that Goff has backed way up a couple of feet behind the baseline just trying to absorb all the blows that Sabalinka is giving her one of the smarter shots Abalinka’s hit in some time is trying to get these balls off the court shorter much more distance for Goff to have to try and cover the um golf [Applause] [Applause] captain the unforced errors Alex in this first set 32 for Sabal Lanka and this first set is not even over yet coming into this final the most she had total in a match was 25 and that was in the three set match against Shvante so Goff’s goals of coming out here and disrupting Sabalanka getting the ball out of her strike zone getting her impatient with the foot speed it’s gone as planned wind certainly isn’t helping we talked about it prior to the match the roof being open arena asking for a double check on that mark out like that [Applause] that’s beautiful it’s something that just was not part of Arena’s game a couple of years ago go [Applause] see sorry [Applause] well Goff was ready for that forehand pass to go to her forehand volley goff with the beautiful lob over the head but look at Goff here shade to her right and be able to cover that pass how important these next couple points in each of the last six Rolandos finals the winner of the first set has gone on to win the match [Applause] a huge return from Sabalena to get the mini break back now Sabalena ready for the second serve to go to the middle of the box and make golf pay huh it’s on the line and all of a sudden we’re back where we started [Applause] messi Goff led the tiebreak 3-0 and 4-1 what ha some incredible tennis down here they’re both having to dig so deep and what a great play from Sabalinka just to make those shots and not over hit yeah Koko’s been in every single point and she’s making her tactically have to do so much more and that’s helping Koko she’s still in this set but it’s set point for Sabalinka after all that defense sabalinka with the finish third set point [Applause] sam Lena sticks the landing in a topsyturvy first set

    Great tournament.
    The only bad on this tournament is to have a commentator like Chris evert, who is very biased.
    Im sure the US tennis association media has objective commentors.

    Not a fan of Sabalenkas audible noises when she hits the ball. It is 100% a tactic to annoy the opponent. Its not just her though.

    Again, I got made it through three grants and it is something that I won’t watch. I’m glad the American one the grunting is so clearly a part of gamesmanship. It makes me sick. It should be outlawed. It should be banned. They don’t have it in ping-pong. they don’t have it inpickle ball. Nobody does it in baseball. There’s no grunting in any other sport where you make contact with the ball there’s no grunting in Golf. Nobody grunts because it’s a form of trying to intimidate your opponent. End of story bandit get rid of it. It’s hideous. She is hideous.

    What we had this final was a screaming mental basket case and Coco Gauff. Thanks to Aryna Sabalenka, this was an extremely annoying match to watch, although rather typical of a woman’s final.

    The main difference between men and women’s tennis is that men play to win and

    women play not to lose. As a consequence, every time a female player is leading she’ll get tight and when she’s losing, she’ll feel more relaxed, ready to defend and get back into the match. It’s just difficult for women to close out because by nature, they are not closers, they are defenders.. They’re not hunters. They are gatherers, which is not bad in and of itself, but sometimes it’s hard to watch.

    Then add Lindsay Davenport to the mix with her dry and insipid commentary, making the match even more annoying. Yes I’ll repeat it once more, it was Lindsay Davenport, who once stated on worldwide television that men’s tennis was so boring that she couldn’t sit through a five set match. A male commentator saying the same thing in reverse would be thrown out of the business, no questions to asked, never to be seen again. Now she’s making comments on the men’s game.
