Donald Trump sent a new threat Elon Musk’s way on Saturday, warning that there would be “serious consequences” for him if he begins funding Democratic candidates to run against Republicans.
It comes on the heels of the pair’s falling out over Trump’s “big beautiful bill” and Musk’s accusation that the president is in the Epstein files.
“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump told NBC News.
“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that.”
The outlet said the president declined to specify what those consequences might be.
NBC News said Trump also said he had no desire to repair their relationship.
“I would assume so, yeah,” Trump said when he was asked if he and Musk’s relationship was through.
NBC said Trump also criticized Musk for being “disrespectful to the office of the President.”
“I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful,” Trump said. “You could not disrespect the office of the President.”
Trump also finally addressed Musk’s accusation that he is in the Epstein files.
“That’s called ‘old news,’ that’s been old news, that has been talked about for years,” Trump said. “Even Epstein’s lawyer said I had nothing to do with it. It’s old news.”
Jeffrey Epstein’s former lawyer, David Schoen, commented on Musk’s accusation on X on Friday.
“I was hired to lead Jeffrey Epstein’s defense as his criminal lawyer 9 days before he died,” David Schoen wrote on X Friday. “He sought my advice for months before that. I can say authoritatively, unequivocally, and definitely that he had no information to hurt President Trump. I specifically asked that!”
Trump shared a screen shot of Schoen’s post to his Truth Social account.
Schoen’s claim came after Musk levied the claim against the president on X Thursday as their relationship unraveled.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: (Donald Trump) is in the Epstein files,” Musk wrote. “That is the real reason they have not been made public.
“Have a nice day, DJT.”
Musk then added “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
