CONNECTICUT — The Stanwich Club in Greenwich is the best golf course Connecticut has to offer, according to a new ranking developed by golfers themselves.
Golf Digest deploys 1,700 professionally trained low-handicap golfers to continually assess the golf courses. The rankings are based on more than 80,000 evaluations over 10 years looking at criteria such as short options, challenge, design variety, conditioning, aesthetics, and character.
Noting that Stanwich has undergone many modifications over the decades, the magazine praised the enduring and “demanding nature of the architecture that requires strong, precise driving and unerring approaches into elevated greens that are heavily defended in front.”

The magazine’s editors describe Greenwich as “essentially an extension of Westchester County, N.Y., one of the country’s richest concentrations of golf, physically and economically,” and view the three of the state’s top six courses located there essentially as Westchester overflow. Greenwich aside, the state is still “top-heavy in private golf,” with only two public-access courses making the Golf Digest.
