World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is shaking things up for his preparation for next month’s Open Championship, confirming his participation in the Scottish Open.
The Scottish Open will take place at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick from July 10-13, a week before The Open. This event, co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, provides U.S.-based players with an ideal week of links golf preparation before competing for the Claret Jug.
This year’s Open Championship will be held at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, where Shane Lowry won his only major to date in 2019. A stacked field will join the Irishman at The Renaissance Club to prepare for the final major of the year.

Scheffler, the world No. 1, will be among the contenders in Scotland this year. Interestingly, he chose to skip the event in 2024, opting instead for a more relaxed week of preparation. He joined close friend Sam Burns to play at other links courses in Scotland, including President Donald Trump’s Turnberry.
However, this strategy didn’t pan out for Scheffler, who finished eight shots behind Champion Golfer of the Year Xander Schauffele at Royal Troon 11 months ago.
Links golf seems to be the three-time major champion’s final frontier, and it appears he plans to be more diligent in his preparation this year as he chases his first victory on UK soil.
“I’m looking forward to getting back to the Genesis Scottish Open next month,” the 28 year old shared. “It’s an event and a course I enjoy playing, given we only get to play links golf a couple of times a year. Playing in such a strong field and in front of the Scottish fans is always fun for us.”

Scheffler has had two prior outings at the Scottish Open, missing the cut in 2022 but bounced back with a solid T3 placement in 2023.
The current PGA champion is shooting for at least the same level of success this coming tourney as he eyes a step closer to that coveted career grand slam.
Although Scheffler boasts impressive stats, his track record at The Open hasn’t quite mirrored those feats. He’s consistently made the cut in all four of his runs in the championship, yet his best finish is tied seventh in 2024, underscoring his determination to master the distinctive test of links golf.

The Scottish Open is set to feature a stellar cast, with seven of the top-10 global players confirmed to tee off, and others may join the ranks.
Amongst those slated to compete alongside Scheffler are big names like Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Ludvig Aberg, and Sepp Straka.
But before setting sights on Scottish greens, Scheffler and his competitors have their work cut out elsewhere.
With three wins in his last four starts, Scheffler heads into next week’s U.S. Open at Oakmont as the hot favorite, bracing for conditions described as downright daunting.
