To obtain maximum speed in the swing, ground force reactions need to be generated. In Part I of the seventh Paddy’s Golf Tips video of a series about how you can teach yourself, I demonstrate how to transfer power from the ground to the clubhead in order to generate more speed. I offer a basic drill to get the feet working properly and demonstrate the direction of the forces and the correct movement of the feet, without wearing shoes!

That was a complex move explained simply .. but still leaves a fog ,
However I had asked your advise and help on how to you fire the right side to finish with your weight transferred and the heel up comfortably ,,
Can you post that please ..
I watch a lot of your videos and find them very helpful and easy to understand. However, this one I felt was unfinished. I get the ground force concept but was left unfulfilled on the concept of not turning your hips. That would leave me swaying…
So push down and towards the ball with the front foot to get the lead hip moving back and around? My back foot feels like it slips away from the target line when I do that, am I using the back foot too much then or not shifting the weight enough
I saw Padraig at the PGA championship a few weeks ago and he had the number one driver carry on the range at 346. All the big hitters had already come through and didn't beat him. He knows how to generate power.
He said you don’t want it on wedge. Wonder how pros hit wedges so fast still?
You’re an inspiration, Padraig. We are the same age and I’m constantly telling myself, “If Cousin Paddy can do it, so can I!!” Thx for the great info you bring to the YouTube golf community.
Would there be difference between the ground force reaction when using driver vs irons.
Great video Padraig I always enjoy your content keep them coming Dr Kwon has great videos on ground reaction forces
So you’re saying Scotty knows about all this and he’s doing all this stuff?
Pushing forward and down with the front foot (to propel your left side up and back) has been so helpful to me. If you want to go in-depth on vertical, rotational and lateral force, check out TPI (Titleist Performance Institute); Titleist's main account has some good shorter tips on forces too. I find that I want to DO something in my swing, and focusing on applying forces in the right directions does that for me. That way I'm not too focused on what my upper body and arms are doing, which helps me be more consistent and have more fun.
Paddy! Always a class act. I do have a suggestion! I suggest that we catch a round together the next time you find yourself in Canada! (You miss 100% of the shots you don't take right?)
The problem with a lot of elite player's is they do things so naturally they don't really know what they're doing. Padraig is so good at breaking things down for us numpties, it's so helpful. What he is saying is excellent and helpful he clearly relates in a way most pros can't. The critical bit that helped me the most is it's left hip back from the top not right hip forward. Pressure goes into the ground on the front foot almost half way back it feels like, it's pressure in, pressure out. Us amateurs are basically late doing everything so in the end there isn't enough time. Another great video.
Padraig I want a golf lesson from you in person 😅
why wont 'the matchup happen for an older player'?
Padriag, you are the man! I think that most amateurs are struggling so much with consistent contact and low point control (myself included) that it’s hard to tie in advanced concepts into how to strike the ball more pure every time. I know that you are mainly aiming to help mid to high handicappers lower their score. The biggest help we need is tying it all in to striking the ball more pure.
Thanks Paddy!
Great video as usual. Can you please do a video of the best release for amateurs, I’ve tried the flip release, with some success but I’m going back to more of a roll release. Help 😢
"Let's complicate the ever-loving-shit out of the Golf swing, so that we have something to sell" 🤣😂😅
Keep doing em.. they're great… Make them more "Irish" or as "Irish" as you can and always with that "Irish" smile… Some correction/ridicule of some of those tips out there would be great with that "Irish" twang…
Paddy! Hero!
Paddy, this is the exact topic I’ve been looking for insight on. Feeling like I’m making a breakthrough with the game, trying to break into the single digit.. Toward the end of the video, you are describing the feeling of jumping back with the left foot, but sounded as though there was another comparison or example – what was it? You also said you would necessarily need that move with a wedge – why?.. Love the videos, have found them all dramatically helpful. Please keep them going!
How do you spin your chip shots ?
Could someone please go back and organize this into coherent thoughts. That was 8 minutes of babbling all over the place with no flow, which is unlike all of his other videos which were all great.
As a beginner hitting a 4 Iron on the range, I often expected a shot to go left but the upthrust, Paddy's talking about allows time for the wrists to turn inside and send the ball out straight. That's my experience anyway, thanks Pad.
Solid gold, just solid gold. Thanks Paddy!
Hi Paddy, could you do a video where you review several subscriber's swings and provide a quick tip? Bryson did one of these a while back and I thought it was great. I'd personally love to hear your advice for my swing! Thank you.
I for one appreciate the work you're doing here. Not only for ordinary dudes like me; this is the kind of "inside the mind of a pro" stuff that will be studied for generations.
You can also sit in a chair on wheels like a office chair /computer chair push back with left foot while spinning the chair around 180degrees . I struggle with this early extension and this is the cure been doing this for months and still struggle to get the feeling but as been a lot better this week as I’ve tried now to drop my head like the jumping move your describing on the backswing and the ball striking as improved massively
Can you do a video in the future about nutrition on the golf course? What to eat/drink…
Any tips for a 73 year old man on how to feel the push back of lead foot described in your video? Or perhaps another tip for older golfers to get the ball going longer on hits. Thank you
