PONTE VEDRA BEACH — Tiger Woods revealed the reason he is not at The Players Championship and will not be playing in any events – including the Masters – in the near future.
The Jupiter Island resident announced Tuesday he ruptured his left Achilles while preparing to return to the PGA Tour. He underwent a minimally invasive tendon repair procedure Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach.

“As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured,” Woods wrote. “I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.”
The surgery was performed by Dr. Charles Stucken.
“The surgery went smoothly, and we expect a full recovery,” Stucken said.

Woods, 49, will not be playing in the Masters, which starts in four weeks, and likely will miss the PGA Championship in mid-May.
Boca Raton resident Bernhard Langer, 67, who plays on Tour Champions, tore his Achilles on Feb. 1, 2024, missed three months of golf and returned to play on May 5.

Woods, the 15-time major champion, tore his right Achilles in 2008 before undergoing reconstructive knee surgery.

Woods has not played an official PGA Tour event since last year’s British Open, where he missed the cut. He played five events last year, finishing one, the Masters. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship, U.S. Open and British Open and withdrew from the Genesis Invitational after one round.
He returned in December after having back surgery to play with son, Charlie, at the PNC Championship.
Since then, his competitive golf has been restricted to the TGL, the indoor golf league he and Rory McIlroy created that plays in Palm Beach Gardens. Woods’ Jupiter Links team did not make the TGL playoffs, which start next week.

Woods withdrew from this year’s Genesis in February, saying he was not ready to return so soon after the death of his mother.
Kultida Woods died on Feb. 4.
