When the Atlantic City LPGA Classic first debuted at Seaview Golf Course in 1986, few people expected one of New Jersey’s oldest golf courses to become a centerpiece on the schedule of one of the most profitable women’s professional sports leagues.
The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) has over $200 million in annual revenue and one of only two professional women’s sports leagues with thousands of active sponsorships (WTA is the other one). Just last season, the WNBA finally crossed the $200 million gross revenue mark but only one WNBA player (Caitlin Clark) is on the list of highest-earning women’s athletes.
Overall, three professional female golfers are among the top 15 highest-earning women’s athletes (Nelly Korda, Jeeno Thitikul, and Lydia Ko). In total, there were 34 golfers in 2024 who hit the $1 Million earnings mark on the LPGA Tour.
The level of play and competition on the LPGA has elevated exponentially over the last three decades, with the ShopRite LPGA Classic spectators having the opportunity each year to see some of the best golfers in the world take on one of the Top Golf Courses in the United States at the Seaview Bay Golf Course in Galloway.
Whether you are coming out to watch the 2025 ShopRite LPGA Classic in person or you cannot make it this weekend but will be watching the action on the Golf Channel, here are the storylines you need to watch for Friday, June 6th to Sunday, June 8th.
My Top Four Storylines To Watch At The 2025 ShopRite LPGA Classic In South Jersey
1. There Have Been No Repeat Winners On LPGA Tour This Year
With Sweden’s Maja Stark win the 2025 US Women’s Open this past weekend, there is an incredible amount of parity on the tour this season. Coming into the 2025 edition of the ShopRite LPGA Classic, only one won has ever won back-to-back years.
When Anna Nordqvist won the tournament in 2016, she became just the second woman to ever shoot a 196 total score at the ShopRite LPGA Classic (Annika Sorenstam did the same in 2005 and 1998). But Nordqvist is the only golfer to win back-to-back years (2015 and 2016).

Last year, Linnea Strom had the largest come-from-behind victory ever at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. She started the final round in 52nd place and went on to shoot an incredible 60 en route to winning the 2024 ShopRite LPGA Classic.
In 2025, Storm has only played in the final round of five tournaments out of the eleven tournaments she has played in. She told the media recently that she believes she is playing better than the statistics show, and after finishing last season strong, she expects to compete this weekend.
2. The Top Two Golfers in the World Will Be in the 144-person field this weekend
World Number One Women’s Golfer Nelly Korda and World Number Two Jeeno Thitikul will be a part of the stacked field this weekend at Seaview, A Dolce Hotel, Bay Course in Galloway, New Jersey.
Since making her LPGA Tour debut in 2017, Nelly Korda has 15 career wins and has four Top-Ten finishes in 2025. After coming in second place at the US Women’s Open last weekend, Korda will play in her first ShopRite LPGA Classic since 2020.
Since 2022, Jeeno Thitikul has already won 5 tournaments on the LPGA Tour along with 47 Top Ten Finishes (an average of 11 per year). She won the Mizuho Americas Open on May 8th and she has finished under par in seven of her nine starts this year.
3. How Will The Potential Impending Weather Impact Play This Weekend?
The Weather Channel’s latest projection has a 50 percent chance of Showers on Saturday. There are conflicting weather forecasts for when the rain will be in the area, so having to start and stop Round Two of the ShopRite LPGA Classic could impact who wins the tournament.
Mao Saigo is the number 10 ranked female golfer and won the 2025 The Chevron Championship in spite of difficult weather conditions. Saigo has finished -4 or better in five straight tournaments, so she could be a Dark Horse to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic this weekend.
Number 12-ranked Jin Young Ko is another woman whose game could adapt to complicated weather conditions this weekend. Even though Ko hasn’t won any tournaments since 2023, she has four Top Ten finishes this season, and she has the fifth-best scoring average on the LPGA Tour this season.
4. Is 2025 The Year We Finally Get Another Multiple ShopRite LPGA Classic Winner?
A decade since Anna Nordqvist won back-to-back tournaments at Seaview in Galloway, we have not seen any golfers as repeat winners. Overall, there are five women who have won the ShopRite LPGA Classic Multiple times:
*Juli Inkster (1986, 1988)
*Betsy King (1987, 1995, 2001)
*Annika Sörenstam (1998, 2002, 2005)
*Stacy Lewis (2012, 2014)
*Anna Nordqvist (2015, 2016)
Aside from the winner of last year’s tournament, Linnea Strom, past ShopRite LPGA Winners in this year’s field include Ashleigh Buhai (2023), Brooke Henderson (2022), Annie Park (2018), Stacy Lewis (2014, 2012), and Brittany Lincicome (2011).

Both Buhai and Henderson are interesting candidates to win their second ShopRite LPGA Classic. Ashleigh Buhai has two Top Ten Finishes in 2025 but her Scoring Average Per Round is 43rd on the LPGA Tour. Brooke Henderson has three Top 12 Finishes this year, and she has the 11th-best Drive Accuracy Percentage on the LPGA Tour this year (79.24%).
