Ricky Fowler silences critics with Open Championship spot after Memorial Surge. Ricky Fowler has booked his place at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush thanks to a gritty Top 10 finish at the Memorial Tournament. Despite entering the elite field on a sponsor exemption, Fowler proved he still belongs, finishing tied for seventh, his best result of the season. As part of the Open qualifying series, the highest finishing player not already exempt earned a coveted spot at the year’s final major. Fowler narrowly edged fellow invitee Brandt Snedeker with whom he tied at one under by virtue of a higher world ranking. It’s a definite positive going over to Portrush. Fowler said Link’s golf is my favorite and that’s one I really wanted on the schedule. I had a great time there last time. Fowler’s invites to recent signature events had sparked criticism, but he used the noise as motivation. The negative stuff fuels me. I want to go out and prove people wrong. Now in line to play his second major of the season, Fowler will attempt to qualify for the US Open on Monday during golf’s longest day. With momentum building, the 36-year-old is back in the spotlight and back in the majors. Friends, what is your opinion about this? Share in the comments.
