CONTROVERSIAL US president Donald Trump snubbed Rory McIlroy when naming the best golfers in the world.

That is despite McIlroy, 36, winning this year’s Masters Tournament.

Bryson DeChambeau was picked despite being eight places below McIlroy

Trump, 78, instead went with World No1 Scottie Scheffler and MAGA-loving Bryson DeChambeau.

DeChambeau, 31, who has ben a vocal ally of the Republican leader, is eight places below World No2 McIlroy in the official golf rankings.

Trump said of DeChambeau from Trump National Golf Club: “He’s probably the No. 1 golfer now.

“Him and Scottie are rated the top.”

Trump is a massive golf fan and spends a great deal of his time hitting the links at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he spent at least 12 of the first 29 nights of his second term.

The US president has been seen a lot on the green after narrowly winning the 2024 election, which led to a turbulent return to the White House.

Trump recently met tumbling approval ratings of between 39 per cent and 45 per cent, which are the lowest for any newly-elected president at the 100-day mark in more than seven decades, according to CNN.

This comes amid his controversial handling of the war in Ukraine, which he promised to end in the first 24 hours of his presidency, and his shocking tariffs which risk global recession as per many economists.

McIlroy, who is  a longtime resident of the US, has been critical of Trump in the past.

In 2020, the Northern Irishman suggested he didn’t share his views and criticized his behavior during his first term.

However, he praised the politician after the way he handled golf’s ongoing civil war between the PGA and PIF by inviting both sides to the White House earlier this year.
