After yet another Scottie Scheffler win against a strong field on a challenging golf course, Smylie Kaufman and Charlie Hulme zoom out to examine the formula that makes Scottie great, and whether his best attribute might be something other than his elite ball-striking. SK and CH also discuss some bold comments from Jack Nicklaus, and what his statement means about Scottie’s place alongside Jack and Tiger Woods as one of the greatest to ever play golf.

Smylie and Charlie also discuss the latest Ryder Cup standings – in particular, one player who is looking like a lock after a season of consistency and durability. Jordan Spieth and Keegan Bradley are also discussed as they continue to build cases for captain’s picks, and why they would or wouldn’t be selected.

Finally, we review big changes to the Tour Championship format, what we expect to see at East Lake in a few months, and whether a more creative solution could have been chosen to conclude the PGA TOUR season.

  1. Great episode boys! Hot take….Is Scottie good for golf? The consensus is the goal of the Tour is to entertain. And as you said earlier, if Scottie shoots anywhere around 70 in the first round(s) of a tournament, it’s over before the weekend. Tiger’s greatness, in my opinion, was that he wasn’t a fairways and greens machine. He sprayed it off the tee a bunch. It was his creativity and shot making out of trouble and around the greens that was entertaining. I.e Jordan and his magic hence his value. If any of that is true, then we need you back on Tour Smylie!! Embrace the Hi-Yas and show us that short game swag you have! Great shirt Charlie!

  2. People hated it but the tour championship made the most sense when you had a tournament winner and a FedEx winner. Some guy who barely gets to east lake should not have a chance to walk away with a $20 million “season long race” prize. Makes 0 sense

  3. Fedex cup champion should be regular season only. They get the larger bonus. Then, have a Fedex cup 3 event playoff. Everybody starts at zero points for the the playoff format. At the end of each tournament, the champion gets the most points and by the end whoever has the most points and wins at least one of the three tournaments wins the Fedex playoff championship.

  4. How does scotties great iron play make it tough for him to be high in strokes gained putting? Isnt that the point of strokes gained to actually isolate each category

  5. I had the US open on yesterday in my house. On Sunday afternoons I’ll turn on the tv and mute as our family is doing our various Sunday things. I can’t imagine why a golf fan would watch a tour event over a marquee women’s event. I won’t be watching women’s golf till the women’s British open again though.

  6. Analyst, former player, and former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley on The Golf Channel said Scheffler is a monotonous player to watch bec. his game is monotonous. I agree. Tiger was exciting. This guy is boringly good! And his unorthodox swing is something out of the Sears, Roebuck & Co. catalog.

  7. laughable that some people "criticize" Scottie for being boring. I mean, the way he goes about his business is seriously impressive.
Don't know what people want from him…. you don't need hollering, club twirling or making balloon animals as a pro golfer.
