The most UNDERRATED Golf Course in Minnesota – Wildflower Golf Course | Detroit Lakes, MN

let’s go [Music] my name is Mason Savage I’m with a good walk spoiled and today we are going to talk about Wildflower Wildflower is located in Detroit Lakes Minnesota it’s actually associated with Fair Hills Resort I’m talking about the golf course the golf course um is a Joel gold strand design I’m project a current Golf Course Superintendent at Brackets Crossing Country Club previous to here I was at Wildflower golf course I worked with Joel of course he designed the golf course chatted with them on many things as far as the future maintenance of the golf course it’s truly a special piece of property the property on the whole is just very dramatic there’s a lot of Rolling Hills but there was a extremely great topal changes out there there’s 90 foot elevation change and Joel’s mission was to really walk the land and do a minimal amount of movement and tree removal which was great because then you’re not disrupting the native soils when we’re moving some soils we found a couple of veins of straight sand and we actually mined that to put them in the bunkers so that was kind of a unique little process my favorite hole out at Wildflower if I had to pick one probably be 3 or 15. the whole three is a par 4 t-box is elevated this sprawling course in front of you it’s beautiful and you are faced with a pretty important key shot you have bunkers framing the Fairway and you have a tree up by the green that’s blocking the left side so it prioritizes you taking on the bunkers on the right so that you have an angle into the green and then once you get to the green the green is just crazy uh pop bunker long dramatic slopes a lot of fall off areas it’s just an awesome hole you could play that hole over and over oh uh hole 15 a short Par Four reachable drivable Par Four but do you want to drive the green that’s a big question there are mounds kind of defending the green and they can create awkward slopes or reject poorly hit balls there’s a lot that could go wrong if you go for the green not to mention there are two greens so is it in the lower the lower tier grain is it in the upper tier one and where that pin is can dictate your strategy it even changes how you maybe want to lay up on the angle that you want to take into the um there’s just a lot of thinking that goes into that hole and I for one really really like short golf holes at Big player’s thing another area that I do like is number nine it’s a prior three and as you sit on the tee and you’re kind of focusing on the green and this is where Joel being a good architect had his uh Vision looking past there because you overlook a Pelican Lake I think you always in Envision that that would be a spot that they could put the clubhouse the part that’s hard to wrap my mind around is that it’s 45 to play Wildflower on the weekend there are so many worst courses in the state the church double what that course charges and it’s just a steal you get awesome Golf Course architecture you get great topography and just kind of a Naturescape that is honestly unlike anything I’ve experienced in the state so far you just get a fantastic golf course and golfing experience oh my God

There are lots of great golf courses in the state of Minnesota and some of them get more recognition than others. One of them that does not get a lot of recognition is Wildflower Golf Course located in Detroit Lakes, MN.
