Former Masters champion Bubba Watson and several LIV Golf recruits have withdrawn from U.S. Open final qualifying.

Watson was due to take part in golf’s longest day to try and grab a spot in the field at the third men’s major of the year in two weeks’ time at Oakmont.

The 46-year-old was listed among the entrants in the qualifier at Woodmont Country Club’s North Course in Rockville, Maryland, where four spots are on offer.

But the 12-time PGA Tour winner was listed as a withdrawal on 1 June, 24 hours before the 36-hole marathon began.

Watson wasn’t the only LIV recruit to give it a miss.

LIV reserve Ben Campbell, David Puig, Matt Jones, Thomas Pieters and Lee Westwood also withdrew and are yet to offer explanations as to why.

Jason Kokrak, Brendan Steele, Mito Pereira, Sebastian Munoz, Anirban Lahiri, Lucas Herbert, Marc Leishman, Danny Lee and Peter Uihlein also play on the breakaway tour and remain in the field at Woodmont.
