Donald Trump labelled Bryson DeChambeau as the best golfer on the planet alongside the current world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler.
President Trump, who is known to be a lover of golf, spent time with U.S. Open champion DeChambeau at his course in Washington D.C. over the weekend, after the pair met at the White House. The LIV Golf man is one of the sport’s in-form players, despite recent near-misses at the Masters and the PGA Championship.
DeChambeau secured his first victory since pipping Rory McIlroy to the U.S. Open last June, after winning his third LIV title in South Korea between his two showings on the major championship stage.

His recent form has seemingly caught the eye of the President, who spoke highly of DeChambeau following his appearance in D.C. on Sunday. “He is a great guy, a great golfer. Probably the No. 1 now, him and Scottie [Scheffler] are rated at the top,” Trump said of DeChambeau.
“We play golf a lot together. It is not a very pleasant experience for me. I always consider myself a reasonably long hitter, and then I play with him. I go home and my wife says, ‘Are you as long as Bryson?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I am pretty close’. It is not close.”
Trump seemingly skipped McIlroy’s name when naming the world’s best players, despite the Northern Irishman recently completing the career Grand Slam with victory at the Masters in April. McIlroy fended off the challenge of DeChambeau, having been paired with the Crushers captain in the final round at Augusta.

It was redemption for the five-time major winner, having agonizingly missed out at the hands of DeChambeau at last year’s U.S. Open. The LIV member will get the chance to defend his title this month, as the third major of the season makes a return to Oakmont.
It remains to be seen who Trump will be cheering on at the national open, but there is no doubt DeChambeau will be high up on his favorites list. The pair have a long-standing relationship, which even included the golfer making an appearance on stage after Trump was voted in as President for his second term.
Trump has also featured on DeChambeau’s YouTube channel on the golf course, a video that has amassed 15 million views since its release last July. Speaking highly of the President earlier this year, DeChambeau told The Times: “I’ve known him for more than eight years and we’ve developed a friendship.
“It’s been fun to get to know who he truly is rather than what people think and see of him. That’s what we were trying to do when we had him on ‘Break 50’.
“We didn’t make it political, we made it about golf and entertainment and raised a quarter of a million for charity. I try to keep space, but if he wants to play golf, we’ll play golf. He’s good with people he trusts.”
