“This tournament has been a labor of love from day one, and I felt like I’ve been a part of it from day one,” Barbara said.
Well, as we talk about the memorial, Jack Nicklaus and his wife Barbara are pillars of the central Ohio community. The couple met at the Ohio State University in 1957 and has ruled the golf world ever since. But this year she says the feeling of the memorial has been a little different. Ten’s Adam King shares with us why. Me, these are the past honorees of the memorial tournament, and soon enough there will be another added. The honoree for the 50th Memorial tournament, Barbara Nicholas. I spent some time with the first lady of golf to see what a day to day is like for her at a busy memorial tournament. Thank you. Thank you. Everywhere she goes she says thank you, thank you, but this week is about, are you kidding me? — I
— never
— miss this. Oh thank you, — particularly
— this year thanking her. I I don’t, I think, I think we took our challenges is just uh a pact of growing up together and figuring it out. What they figured out was a golf tournament that’s raised over $50 million for charity. I’ll tell you, when you see kids wrapping their. Arms around doctor’s legs and saying thank you and just around the room and all these little kids saying thank you really gets to you and you know why you’re doing what you’re doing. And while Barbara wasn’t the biggest golf fan, I didn’t really even know golf existed when I met Jack, so I had a lot to learn. So happy for you guys. Thank you. Good merit of the hug. So and you handled it so beautifully. Now she spends her days. Every moments with the world number one. I’m so humbled and so proud, but it’s very scary. I mean this tournament has been a labor of love from day one and uh you know I felt like I’ve been a part of it from day one, but never on this side of it so. And it’s career surrounded by the best golfers in the world, there’s no question who the biggest star this week is. Thank you.
