One of my favorite value plays over the last few years has been MacGregor. In 2025 they have released the MacGregor MT Pro Irons and I took them on course for a playing test.

on today’s episode I’ve got a set of irons from a company that I really think is upand cominging and it’s funny to say that cuz it’s actually a company that’s been around for decades they were off the map they’re now back on the map and they’re doing some amazing things I’m talking about McGregor golf once a company owned by the Golden Bear himself it’s got a storied history it’s got major championships listed in its pedigree in the mid 2020s they’re making some incredible clubs here again if you saw my review last year of the Mt mil you know how much I loved those clubs the feel the Forgiveness the distance everything about them was exceptional to the point where they became my second set of clubs I played them quite a bit last year well this year at the PGA show I got a chance to take a look at the Mt Pros the 2025 release here from McGregor these ones maybe are even better we’re going to find out here today as we play six holes of golf with an over under of plus one that will be our test if we can play some good golf here with the Mt Pros first let’s take a closer look all right here’s your closer look at the Mt Pro I’ve got to say beautiful club and this design is my favorite players iron design right now where you’ve got this step you got a lot of weight down here and then it steps in I think that at least for my game has proved to be really good now if you look at the Sol of vist you’ve got some Leading Edge relief here which hopefully will promote some great Turf interaction like the Mt mil you’ve got a nice subtle Top Line just a little bit of taper probably a little bit less taper even than the Mt mil and just really overall a clean Design This is a fully forged Club it’s made of 1020 carbon steel which should provide a nice soft feel coming off the club face but we will test that out here on course you can also see written on here miled you’ve got the Milling here on the back just adds to the Aesthetics of these clubs and I think you’ve really got something in hand that punches way above the price you’re paying $549 is that price by the way for a 5 through pitching wedge set in terms of the Loft here 33° at the 7 iron 23 at the 4 iron and 45 at the pitching wedge so these are definitely going to be for players who generate their own ball speed I’ve got these paired with a True Temper Dynamic gold stiff shaft the standard grip here for all McGregor is a lampin cross line you’ve got options on their website to adjust lie and Loft these being a soft Forge steel these can be bent very easily to your specs all right so in this set I’ve got five through gap wedge which means I’ll be teeing off with a lot of five irons here today first hole here straightway par five we’ve got the wind into us right now otherwise I’d say we had a shot of getting home in two but it’s probably going to be a three shot hole let’s see what we get here out of the five iron I’ll tell you what we got was really nice Peak height really nice soft buttery feel we’ve had some really good clubs on this show lately the mty M from McGregor have to be up there in terms of feel and so I was really hoping these lived up to that and I got to say they absolutely do let’s see where that one finished all right so we’re 203 out which means we’ve got two approaches we can try to really push this five iron but I wish I had a four iron in the bag or we could hit like a 100 yard shot and then another 100 yard shot but what’s the fun in that let’s see if we can get green side here we’re going to go five iron and hopefully we’ll have like something we can pitch up there hit that one toe side but a fairly forgiving result for that we got looks like plenty of distance out of it and that’s what I’m looking for for a player’s iron I’m always looking for a little bit more forgiveness I still want the control I want the workability I want the stopping power to me those are things I can’t live without and if I can get some forgiveness out of it that’s a real win all right let’s see if we can get the weight to the shot right 43 yards I pushed it a little bit all right we’ve got 35 ft here I’d say a little downhill got to get the weight of this putt right this is for birdie that’s pretty cozy all right we’ve got our par we’re heading to a par four it’s a shorter one this might go a little less than five iron since we hit two back to back then I really want to test every Club in the bag if I can all right so 312 here Par Four dog leg left we got to do the math right here cuz again my lowest wedge here is a gap wedge which is probably about a 120 Club so no more than 200 would be what we want to hit here I’m actually going to go six iron and uh again we’re going to test a little bit of workability here now my natural shot shape is right to left and that’s how this hole is playing but we’re going to try to exaggerate that a little bit as well see if we can get one rolling over in the Fairway and pick up a little bit of distance that way oh yeah it’s easy to carve these ones I might have carved it too much there I think we could be in the left rough even but that bodess very well for workability and mcgreer talked about this 1020 carbon steel here being very very soft and I got to say just like the Mt Mills these have to be some of the softest feeling irons I’ve ever tested you always hear the old adage nothing feels like a mauno well I’ll tell you what there’s a lot of clubs nowadays that feel like a Muno this is absolutely one of them I think in the field Department you’re getting at least double the value for $549 for this set of clubs you’re getting the feel of a $1,200 iron bar nun we’re putting these ones to the test early because I cut off way too much of that corner now we’re kind of blocked out I don’t know if you can see this but there is a little Gap here between this overhanging branch and the rest of them that go up and I’m going to try to put it right through there and I could be crazy but if we’re going to put these clubs to the test we’re going to test them to the max I’ve got 149 I think seven iron would be the perfect trajectory I just got to get the weight of the shot right and of course I’ve got to get the control of this shot correct as well am I crazy or am I a genius work out to find out oh that is the best that is the best I don’t even know if we hit the green but that is exactly how I drew it up in my mind and that’s what a player’s iron like this is all about being able to get yourself out of the tough positions if you watch the pros on TV obviously they’re great ball Strikers but there’s plenty of great ball Strikers out there even at my home Club here there’s guys that hit it just as good as the pros what they don’t do is get out of trouble like the pros do they don’t scramble they can’t make the types of shots that Pros can make from the really difficult positions that is what you want out of a set of irons like this something that’s at least going to give you the best chance if you can execute it great we did that right there yeah we’re not on the green but we’re in a much better position here to hopefully get up and down and make a par and I’m just thrilled anytime I can do what I want to do and if I Can Dream It Up in my mind and actually execute it it just feels so good well just missed the green here and of course I pay the price now with a fried egg we’ll do our best here to get out of here still I’m on cloud N9 after seeing what that club just did that wasn’t too bad we got to putt it par it’s a long one but we got a chance come on get some legs come on come on come on come on come on come on come on it hurts it hurts but that hole could have been a lot worse we’re heading to the real teeth of this course three four and five the toughest holes I think out here two par fours and a par three if we can get through this section even par that is a massive win with these clubs I think we can now I’ve got a lot of comments on the merch we have rolled out the new Mir mortal merch the website is up and it’s a limited edition pre-order so you got till the end of the month here if you want to get one of our hat shirt towel combos every penny goes into the production of this show to these unbiased reviews so if you enjoy content from people that aren’t sponsored and you want to see more of it help support the show that’s one way you can do it all right really tight really narrow t-shot here this kind of widens in the beginning but really Narrows out towards the end we’re going back to the five iron here we’ve got to be precise we’re going to get ourselves into position to have a chance here to attack par here is always a good score but a birdie would be sweet that’s a good start be too good that’s perfect all right so just to take a look at distance here now we’re still slightly into the wind I thought this was kind of a crosswind but up here I feel that it is into us a little bit either way still decent distance there 188 here with the five iron 195 is my stock so once we get to a hole where it’s a little flatter maybe there’s not so much wind we’ll have a real good idea but so far I think distance is on par with what you’d expect I don’t think it’s going to blow your socks up but that’s what these clubs are about these are for people who again want ultimate control which we just saw on the last hole you can get and here I’m going to have to be pretty precise as well 176 is the number with that hurting wind I think 6 iron is the club and I’m going to try to cut one in there cuz this pin is cut on the right hand side there is a bunker guarding short right but I think if we can cut one in we got the best chance of getting close to this hole let’s see if we can make it happen cut baby cut it wants to okay there we go might come up a little short there so yeah probably 10 yards short of the green here which means yeah you’re going to lose on a Miss hit you got to be able to strike these clubs well when you do they’re going to pay off but you got to be consistent you’re not going to get a ton of help from them not so great wow that’s off the green all right so I wanted to be able to putt this but I think I still got to chip this one it’s a testy little shot that pin is in such a tough spot on a very undulating green I said this was a tough hole and it’s proving to be that way that was a bad one oh two bad chips in a row means I’ve got a tough putt here for Bogey and this will really put my back against the wall if I miss this [Music] one the dog got me make that a triple all right well four over the short game is uh absolutely let me down right there and a dog in my back swing as I was putting didn’t help either but that’s golf you got to play with what you got I do think these clubs are capable but we’re going to have to make some birdies and make them very very quickly if we’re going to get back anywhere near our over under okay well when you’re just in front of the green laying two and you make seven you start to scratch your head and wonder what you’re doing out here but just got to power through these irons are performing fantastic can’t say anything wrong with them right now I just got to put some better swings on the ball I’m going to try to fade this five iron here right at that palm tree and hopefully it fades away like that so if we keep swinging the ball like that we’re going to make some chances and we’re going to get it back but again with these clubs I’m going to have to make better contact because they’re not going to necessarily help you like the Mt Ms will all right position a and now we get to unwrap another club that I haven’t hit eight iron we’re 151 out again wind in our face so wirs this would probably be a 165 club for me it’s probably going to be about a 155 Club here today it was in my head I said to myself right before I pulled the trigger you cannot be left in short and what do I do I come right up on it right up on it and we’re in the water and now we’re dropping hitting for and we’re in massive trouble so this is where you just got to go shot by shot in golf you can’t have your best day of golf every time out you got to take it one shot at a time and just try to enjoy the holes we’ve got left 72 Ys is the number okay need a good shot here I need that to check check just couldn’t get the spin on it all right this is downhill 40 ft probably again it’s it’s really all about Pace get tight all right well we got a par three coming up if I got to get at least one birdie out of these irons this is probably going to be a good chance at it unbelievable all right 156 is the number I really have to put a good swing on this one now because clearly my short game is letting me down I’ve got nothing but these irons to rely on right now so I’m asking all I can of them that is on a really good line is it the one it is all right now we had wind behind us but in terms of stopping power we landed right in here and it rolled out oh I’d say 9 ft or so which here in the morning I’d say that’s about right with this type of Club again with these particular lofs you’re going to get plenty of peak height and you’re going to get a fair amount of stopping power out of these ones you can really control control distances and I’ve hit this just about a yard past this pin which is really nice good crack at birdie here and I really need this after what I’ve done in the last two holes stay up well we’ll take the par and I am really happy we have a tap in there because I’m not too confident right now with my putting we’ve got one more hole to play after I hit this t-shot we are going to rank these clubs and I promise you the score that I give these will not be dependent on my actual score out here because it’s pretty big one I don’t even know what it is right now all right last five iron here we’ve hit four out of five Fairway so far let’s see if we can finish strong that might be right on the edge actually we’ll also check the distance here to before we give the distance score cuz this time we’ve got a little wi behind us and we’ll see what we got out of these clubs I hit it well we got a lot of distance there 209 is the number so plenty of distance out of these ones but had a little bit too much draw there as well these are very workable clubs so you’re going to have a little less forgiveness a little bit more workability out of these ones let’s go ahead and rank them though in terms of distance I’m going to give these a four out of five you saw the hirons we played recently here on the Channel with these Lofts basically being the same both seven iron sitting at 33° you’re going to get a little bit more out of the H than these ones in terms of forgiveness I’m going to give these a three and 1/2 out of five stars again I think these are really meant for a better ball Striker when you hit them in the middle they feel great and they do what you want you can really control them but you got to make good contact you’re going to lose some distance out here as we saw and I paid the price here a few times in terms of workability this is where these really Excel and for me it’s a full five out of five and it really would be like a 6 out of five these are about as workable as a club gets when it comes to Aesthetics looks feel and sound for me it’s a full five out of five stars and when it comes to value for me again 5 out of five at$ 549 for the five through pitching wedge set just exceptional value here from McGregor on screen is your score it’s not indicative of my score but like I said it wasn’t the irons that let me down here today it was absolutely the short game let’s see if we can finish strong knock one more tight and end here with a birdie and we get a chance to unwrap one more Club here that we haven’t hit it’s going to be the six iron it’s only 159 but on this side Hill I’ve got to choke up on this and you’re going to lose quite a bit of distance when your ball is above your feet like this one is pretty severely again this is where clubs like this really should Excel getting you out of tough positions but again I got to still put a good strike on the ball here I think that’s about as good as I could do we might just catch the front of that green we’re just short but chipping up in a good position and if you’re going to miss you got to miss in the right spots we did that there all in all really great performance here on of the McGregor the guy swinging him was on his a game here today but I had a lot of fun that’s for sure I can’t believe that one didn’t come down to the left I haven’t made a putt all day why start now it’s been tough conditions but it was the guy with the putter in his hand that let me down here today I am a mere mortal if you are too hit that subscribe button I’ll catch you back next time on another edition of let’s play through [Music]

  1. Another great review. Have one for you. How about reviewing JumboMax Ultralight grips? Seems to be a thing now. Would love to hear what you think.

  2. The irons look amazing. The price is outstanding. The customizable options are top notch and the great feeling of carrying MacGregor in your bag when your foursome likes to shop with tunnel vision and think Callaway, PING, TaylorMade, Titleist and Mizuno are the only options is top shelf.

  3. Meh…interesting looking..all those ridges on the back makes me think they’ll look like the TM MCs after a few uses, ie., not good…the merch is interesting…a little busy, but I like the logo and colors…the 1/4 zip you’re wearing is nice!

  4. How do they compare to the TaylorMade’s P7MC?

Back in my hs golf team (mid 80s), a lot of guys played either MacGregor or Hogan. I do like the look of these. 👍🏻😀

  5. Same company that owns MacGregor (Golf Brands, Inc.) owns Ram, Zebra and Ben Hogan. Not overly impressed with how you hit these irons, as they seemed to have a draw bias to them, even though you managed to hit a couple of fades. That said, yardage-wise, there was little consistent about them. Granted, you didn't make solid contact all that often, but that could be because of the clubs. Not all are created equal. I'll pass on these and stick with my Mizuno's.

  6. Living in Australia, it's unfortunate that shipping makes great clubs like these no cheaper than the established retail brands.

  7. I hope the public is starting to realize that all these irons are designed and made in China. The company that buys them can slightly tweak them but overall there isn't much original design.

  8. I’ve been asking for a review of the MacGregor FT-86 Pro irons forever! They look so good.

  9. Love your channel Gabe. I would love a review of the Maltby Sti2. $250 for 4-G. Would be great for new golfers looking to get out there.

  10. I so hope macgregor make a comeback, I've still got in my array the mactec forged, absolutely amazing golf clubs

  11. Friend bought them, not impressed with QC. small nicks on them, some of the paint fill was off. Felt great though

  12. In 1962 I bought my first set of clubs and they were our golf pros hand me down MacGregor Tommy Bolt signature irons. I thought they were great but I knew nothing about golf.

  13. My Father got a set of Tourney DX blades off of a golf pro by beating him on the 18th hole of their round. He couldn't hit them either and gave them to me. I hit them for 30 years.

  14. Thanks for sharing your shit round Gabe. Appreciate that especially when you're reviewing a club, lol. Way to keep it together and not blame the club!
