The Takomo 101U Driving Iron could be a great option for you, especially if you’re lacking confidence with your long irons. But how does the 101 4-iron compare to the 101U 4-iron when tested on a Trackman?

Today I’m comparing the Tacoma 1014 iron with the 101 U4 iron to see if the 101 U4 iron could be a better addition to the top of the bag, especially for golfers who maybe don’t have the confidence that you would like to have with their long irons. The idea with the 101U irons is that they actually have lighter shafts in them than the normal irons. So, for instance, the 101 iron here has the KBS Tour 120 S flex shaft, whereas the 101U iron has the KBS hybrid 80 S flex shaft. You should be able to swing these clubs a little faster. So, today I’m going to put that to the test. You might notice that the KBS hybrid shaft has a red logo on it instead of the green you’ll see on the website. It is the exact same shaft, a different color there. So, no worries. Exact same club that you would buy on the website. I’m going start with the 101 here. Yes, I’m absolutely full sending these. I’m just going to have an absolute blast with this and swing how I never should on the golf course. Oh, that’s murdered. Is it left? No. Whoa, that is smoked. Look at these numbers. It’s going to be it’s going to be kind of funny. I just kept the first 10. It was a pretty good representation. We’re going to go over to the 101U. Try to do the same thing. Now, it is important to note that the 101 4 iron actually has a stronger loft than the 101U 4iron. The 101 4 iron is 20.5° whereas the 101U is 22°. Does that mean that the 101U is not going to go as far? Well, let’s find out. Let’s just launch these, you know. Okay, that was fun and I will definitely be sore tomorrow. All right, let’s start with the 101’s. So, average club head speed 102.7, carry 234, total 252. Now remember it is a degree and a half stronger lofted than the 101U. Uh also important note here. Spin rate 36, height 93, and the land angle 41. So those are really important here when you’re talking about long iron. So let’s go over to the 101 U4 iron. So I swung the club a little bit faster. Um not quite a full mile an hour faster, um but still a bit faster. Carry 230 total 242. So the carry went down 4 yardds. Again, it’s a degree and a half weaker lofted. But the important thing here, the spin jumps up to jumped up to 43, right? From 36 to 43. That’s a pretty significant jump in the spin rate. Height goes up to 115 ft in the air. And the land angle is now 46°, which is one of the reasons why it doesn’t have as much roll out, right? It only has 12 yards of roll out versus the 101’s which have almost 20, like 18 yards of roll out. If you look at the smash factor on both of these, I hit both of them pretty well. Smash factor 1.45. Average ball speed 101U 149 versus 148. So, I was hitting them both pretty well. And the 101U just goes higher. Uh, it’s not going to carry quite as far. Again, a little weaker lofted, but it’s going to launch higher with more spin and stop quicker. All right, main takeaways from this little test for me are that the 101U does exactly what we were hoping it would do. It helped me launch the ball higher, more spin, and it’s going to land at a steeper angle, so it’s going to stop quicker, which is exactly what you’re looking for from your long iron. So, if you are someone who struggles with the long irons at the top of the bag, you should definitely consider looking at our 101U irons. They could do the same thing for you that they just did for

Yes, you definitely need a driving/utility iron. I like my zx udi 3 so much, I'm getting the new zx udi 2. Love that v sole.
Love it! I’d love to see Tim swing all 3 utility irons and compare them together
When I started playing golf I ordered the 101’s and loved them I saw the 101u’s on the site and order the KBS hybrid shaft and had it put in my 101 4irron and absolutely love it. I’m now playing the 101t but still use that 101 4 iron with the hybrid shaft in it and it fantastic. The 101t’s are great by the way glad I ordered them.
Always good content.
Make a video showing takomo getting orders out faster⛳
I'm curious. How would you ever hold a green with the first 4i?
When are the bag back on sale want to get one but they are sold out
Love my 2 iron utility, bought it on a whim while ordering my 101t and wedges. Not 1 regret, my favorite club for a fairway finder & hit stingers
Make a video showing takomo respond to mails😅
It looks good
I have the 101u 2 iron. I took the shaft out and put the same shaft as my 301cb and then I could get it to go further than my 4 iron. Became a real driving iron and not a forgiving 3 iron.
I would love one, but I’m a lefty
I have the 101U 3 iron and I absolutely love it. It is so easy to hit. I use it mostly of the tee for a driving iron but I can play it of the deck as well.
Tim, your swing is looking real good and has come a long way since I first heard about tokomo irons 2 years ago.
Huge fan, you're a sneaky long savage Tim. Ty again for this style of video, I enjoy them very much.
Ok. So I am trying to find out what the degree of upright would change a straight shot !
So what would a standard lie mean on a straight shot, compared to a straight path, but with 3 degrees upright?
Who is the winner today!?
THANK YOU!!!!! I have had mine for 11 rounds "was?" 17 HDC, 51yr old, longer hitter, got the 101 and I have shed 5 strokes a round from the forgiveness alone!!!! I am going to order 2 wedges and a 2UI next week to finish the bag. (can't hit the 3 wood 🙁 ) These clubs are amazing and worth taking a risk on. Will never forget my first shot way WAY off the toe 145yd 9I and it stayed online right at the pin! I love these clubs!!!!! Couple of the guys I golf with occasionally grab a club out of my bag and they are looking to get their own. Thank you, and I cannot wait to swing them again!!!
Tim should be there when Grant, the NZ boys, and Brian Bros meet up
Any way we could get a 3 iron for the 202?
When will we see a review/comparison of the obsidian shaft? I know this video is not about shafts but I have not seen any reviews. Maybe I just haven’t found it.
