A leaderboard fit for a venue like Aaron Hills. The 80th edition of the US Women’s Open is halfway complete. So, let’s run back what happened during the second round. I’m Hope Barnett and you’re watching LPGA Now. Let’s get into it. After a rain delay on Friday evening, day two is nearly in the books here in Wisconsin and our first major champion of the year is in solo first. The last player to start the year with back-to-back major wins was Envy Park in 2013. And now Maigo is trying to follow in her footsteps. Following a five-way playoff at the Chevron Championship, the Japanese athlete is embracing all of the big moments this year with the low score of the week so far. Mau started on the back nine where she carded her third birdie of the day on 16. What a birdie this would be. She is absolutely flag hunting. Even she was unstoppable out there. [Music] Wow. Just outside of four feet. She’s so good. In second, we have a past US Women’s Open champ, an in aim Kim. That first victory in Houston is actually what got her out on the LPGA tour. And now she’s trying to run it back. Kim with her second shot on the way. And a good one. She’s basically walking after that one, Tom. She knew how good that was. See if we end with a birdie. Yes, we do. And I know everyone is happy to see this gal at the top. In Nelly’s’s 11 US Women’s Open starts, this is her lowest score by two strokes. Yeah, I’ve just I I feel like I’ve had a very complicated relationship with US women’s. Um, but I’m happy to be in the position I am heading into the weekend. complicated maybe, but this relationship seems to be getting better and better. She is all healthy. [Music] That one goes 14 and 1/2 ft. Now has a pretty straightforward shot. She’s going to go a little bit lower. Try to get something to spin here. Let’s take a look at the leaderboard. Mao is on top. Alim in second, while Nelly, Hanako Shabuno, Sarah Schmemellzel, Maya Stark, and Yolimino are tied for third, and they’re three back from the leader. This ties Maya’s best star in a major to date. Sarah Schmemellzel is still looking for that elusive first LPGA win, and what better place to do it than at a US Women’s Open. This is only her second made cut at the event and she’s in contention and hitting shots like this. Well done since then. Excuse me. How about Hanakaco? A major champion once already and she loves a big event. Hanako nearly won in 2024 where she finished in second. Considering the difficulty of Aaron Hills, you never know what might happen on Saturday and Sunday. With just two rounds left, you’re going to want to watch this. So, be sure to tune in to watch Moving Day and come back right here to watch my daily recap show. [Music]

  1. Brutal day at Erin Hills for some of the games biggest names, but this is The U.S. Women's Open, as tough as they come for the year. As a Northern Californian, I'm going to have to root for Yealimi Noh – she knows how to win, she proved that this year and Erin Hills is the place to show off that short game.
